EP 009 - Boys in the BandIt’s been a few weeks since the last episode release... do Chris and Lisa still have it? This week, Chris and Lisa sat in front of their (respective, cuz... rona) couches and watched The Boys in the Band on Netflix. The film, released in October 2020, is a revival of the original play which goes by the same name. Set in 1968, it first opened a year before the Stonewall riots. To get some help understanding the context and importance of this story, our special guest this week is Emmett Murphy. Director, designer, producer, and founder of showHive, Emmett guides us as we channel our spirit animals and drops some serious knowledge bombs. If you’re still wondering about the title of the play, we’ve (Emmett) got an answer for you: “Mart Crowley's close friend, Dominick Dunne asked him about the origination of the play title: "It's that line in A Star is Born when James Mason tells a distraught Judy Garland, 'You're singing for yourself and the boys in the band.” Find Emmett: https://emmettmurphy.com/https://songbookwatchparty.com/Take YOUR spirit animal quiz here:https://www.spiritanimal.info/spirit-animal-quiz/ And then TELL US what you got!IG: @afterqueerfulconsiderationemail: afterqueerfulconsideration@gmail.com
The Notorious RGB has been an internet sensation with her masterful dissents, in her words, "Dissents speak to a future age. It's not simply to say, 'My colleagues are wrong and I would do it this way.' But the greatest dissents do become court opinions and gradually over time their views become the dominant view. So that's the dissenter's hope: that they are writing not for today, but for tomorrow." In this Queerful Quickie, Chris and Lisa celebrates Justice Ginsburg's life's work by highlighting the victories she's won for the LGBTQIA+ community. Rest in Power, Justice.Share with us your thoughts on the current lay of the land:IG: @afterqueerfulconsiderationemail: afterqueerfulconsideration@gmail.comWant to come to our LIVE SHOW on Oct. 7, 2020?
