The West Virginia governor, Patrick Morrisey, and a Mountain State legislator, Chris Rose, think they see an opportunity to mooch off our prosperity. Morrisey, last week, in the hours after our Blue Wave state elections, sent a message to the red counties in Virginia via Facebook, assuming that he feels their frustration. “It's about to get awful blue in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” wrote Morrisey, a Brooklyn-born, New Jersey-bred Rutgers alum who only moved to West Virginia, and Harpers Ferry – barely inside the border – at that, when he was 39 years old. Guy is as West Virginia as Tony Soprano, with the added touch that, before he got into elected politics, he made his living as a pharmaceutical lobbyist, and now runs a state set backwards a generation by the opioid crisis that he made gobs of money advocating for. Back to Jersey Boy's post-election message to Virginia: “Don't wait for the high taxes to heavy regulations to come, now is your chance to escape to wild and wonderful West Virginia,” Morrisey wrote.

Together, we dig into the week's headlines with insight, humor, and a touch of coastal calm. This week, we're calling it “The Democrats' Week” — because, let's face it, it's been a rough stretch for the President and his MAGA allies. Speaker Mike Johnson can't get his team together, government shutdown threats kept swirling, and the so-called “Hate America Rally” has proven to be effective. The President's ranting about Nancy Pelosi being “an evil person,” but the real story is how Democrats are quietly winning — big. From Virginia to California, blue victories keep stacking up: Abigail Spanberger makes history, Mikie Sherrill and Zohran Mamdani extend a progressive streak, and Democrats hold the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Even in Mississippi and Georgia, new seats are flipping. And those Moms for Liberty losses? A huge crack in the MAGA culture war machine. We'll talk about the President's latest distractions — from Mar-a-Lago's Halloween bash to his strange foreign policy obsessions — and why Americans still clearly prefer democracy and a working economy over chaos and grievance.Betsey brings reflections from her Substack. In today's episode, Tom Bilyeu and Drew dive headfirst into America's current political and economic landscape, unpacking the recent “blue wave” of Democratic wins—including Zoran Mamdani's victory in NYC—and what it signals for the future of governance, policy, and the middle class. The conversation kicks off with heated reflections on the consequences of political shifts, examining the impact of progressive policies, the perennial debate over wealth and poverty, and the mechanics of economic systems that are driving so much division. Drew shares candid thoughts on why some policies, while well-intentioned, might be leading us toward more hardship, especially for the working class—all while painting vivid analogies connecting personal growth, historical lessons, and even Greek myths to our current reality. From government shutdowns and fiscal responsibility to the behind-the-scenes drama of Congress and power plays among billionaires, no stone is left unturned. The episode even touches on breaking news like the UPS cargo plane disaster, the precarious state of America's air travel infrastructure, and technological leaps with wireless brain implants, before rounding out with world affairs like Tommy Robinson's acquittal in the UK. Join Tom Bilyeu and Drew as they challenge conventional wisdom, debate the path forward, and highlight why cultivating a thriving middle class may just be the greatest KPI for America's future. Election Day 2025 will go down in history as D-Day for democracy. Terrell Starr joins Andrea to break down what these nationwide victories mean for the future, from the midterms and beyond. It's clear who Americans blame for the government shutdown. The blue tsunami showed up and reshaped the map, literally. In Virginia, Abigail Spanberger made history as the state's first woman governor as Democrats swept the governorship, lieutenant governorship, and attorney general, with nearly every county shifting blue. In New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill became the first Democratic woman to lead the state, with Democrats gaining seats across the legislature. Our people-powered victories weren't a "blue bubble" story as Donald Trump wants you to believe. Democrats flipped two seats in Mississippi, two statewide offices in Georgia, won the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and wiped GOP control off the Bucks County school board. Colorado voted to feed kids, Charlotte funded transit, Maine rejected voter suppression, progressive D.A.s Larry Krasner in Philadelphia and Alvin Bragg in Manhattan won re-election, and California overwhelmingly voted for redistricting self-defense against GOP autocracy. More on the redistricting battle in future episodes. And in New York City, Zohran Mamdani, just 34, the city's first Muslim mayor and the youngest since 1982, the first candidate to get over 1 million votes since 1969, delivered a victory speech so electric it could light up Times Square, reminding us that unity and humanity are the real antidotes to greed and fear. The fascists forced a fight, and democracy punched back. This is only the beginning. Thank you to every Gaslit Nation listener who voted, who showed up for your community, for our shared livable future that we will build together, and who kept hope alive on our darkest days.    The Kansas City Star headline boasts "Nation Hit by Blue Wave."  What a joke.  These were the most lame elections ever and anyone trying to make anything of these is like a sports fan declaring the Chiefs are bad because they lost a preseason game.  What a sham.    You won't believe the composition of the electorate in NY City.  If there is one alarming thing from Tuesday... this is it.    Kansas AG Kris Kobach has charged the mayor of Coldwater, Kansas for committing election fraud.  CBS ratings sizzle for the Chiefs/Bills and 60 Minutes with Donald Trump.  The sky isn't falling, Vegas still loves the Chiefs.   And then we have a great conversation with a young sports radio host that is moving more and more toward politics.  His name is Paul Gallant and he was wrongly called a whacky liberal by Tucker Carlson.  Paul is the host of the "Gallant Says" podcast on You Tube and all other pod platforms, and while he hasn't jumped into the deep end of conservative talk just yet, maybe we can provide him with an outlet right here at KKHI.

Well, what a night that was.The 2025 off-year election came and went, and I don't think anybody on the Republican side was quite ready for how hard it hit. I expected Virginia to go blue — I didn't expect it to be a total decimation. Abigail Spanberger didn't just win, she boat-raced it, besting Winsome Earle-Seares by a whopping 14 points. That momentum was even enough to carry Jay Jones, dogged by scandal after scandal, to a smaller (but no less impressive) six-point win. That's despite having an opponent with a compelling ad campaign and a story that, in a different climate, might have turned heads. It didn't matter. The wave swallows all. What stands out to me the most is how broad this Democratic surge really was. In New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill handed Jack Ciattarelli a 13-point loss, completely rewriting the expectations I had going in. I thought if Republicans were going to find any traction, it would be in the Garden State. It wasn't. In Latino-heavy areas like Passaic, New Jersey — areas that just barely swung for Trump in 2024 after 2010s results in the D+50 space — saw a reversion back to near-2020 Democratic margins. Republicans had a shot to build a new working-class coalition in those towns, and right now, it looks like they blew it.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. The real story of the night, though, was New York City. Zohran Mamdani didn't just win. He crushed. He did it with style, focus, and an eye for narrative. His campaign was slick, and his messaging was clear. He connected with voters who felt left behind — people priced out of housing, worried about jobs, unsure about their future. Mamdani was speaking directly to them. He predicted headlines, embraced viral moments, and even handled scrutiny around some of the more potentially-controversial moments of his name with grace and wit. His vote totals show him cracking 50 percent, a number that Cuomo and Sliwa together couldn't touch. It's an out-and-out victory for a campaign that, initially, seemed like a pipe dream for the left. What we're seeing now is a Democratic Party that knows how to win and a Republican Party still figuring out how to respond. And with the 2026 midterms now less than a year away, it's only going to get crazier.Chapters00:00 - Intro01:30 - Virginia04:50 - New Jersery09:37 - Prop 50 in California11:36 - Mamdani in NYC18:51 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. He responded on social media:  “‘TRUMP WASN'T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT,' according to Pollsters,” In just about every victory speech last night, Democrats threw shade at Trump.  We'll roll the video and then discuss.
