It became a wake for the reality of Duggan's “impossible dream” which proved, in fact, to be impossible. Does it clear the way for Jocelyn Benson to ride a Blue Wave into the Governor's office? National Democrats have launched a circular firing squad over the 2024 Autopsy report with DNC chair Ken Martin facing calls for his ouster. But does anyone outside of the party's org chart and the political media give a damn? Meanwhile, Michigan Democrats are making a pitch to the DNC to put Michigan into the first tier of presidential primaries.  President Donald Trump's push to reshape congressional districts ahead of the November elections suffered a double setback Tuesday, as South Carolina senators declined to do so and a federal court blocked a Republican-backed map in Alabama. As early in-person voting began Tuesday in South Carolina's primaries, the state Senate rejected a Republican plan to cancel those congressional votes and instead schedule a new primary under revised districts designed to help the GOP oust Jim Clyburn, the state's only black member of Congress. A Republican win in Texas could well mean a Democratic win in November. Utterly corrupt Attorney General Ken Paxton outlasted Senator John Cornyn despite multiple national Republicans correctly pointing out that Paxton was a grotesquely flawed candidate. He's under federal indictment, he narrowly avoided CONVICTION AFTER impeachment – BY A GOP LEGISLATURE, and he's being sued for divorce by his state senator wife thanks to his affair with a former aide and state securities regulator. Democrats in Washington have made it clear that a Blue Wave flip of congressional control will mean investigations into the Trump administration’s corruption. As lawmakers grow increasingly frustrated with President Donald Trump's planned $1.8 billion lawsuit settlement fund and his thousands of stock trades totaling hundreds of millions dollars, a trio of House Democrats is launching a new caucus aimed at fighting malfeasance in government. The new End Corruption Caucus is launching at the direction of Representatives Jason Crow, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Mike Levin, D-Calif., spanning the party's centrist to progressive wings. When Donald Trump is feeling down, he brings in his Cabinet which spends a couple of hours telling him how great he is. On Wednesday the latest gathering focused on extolling what great things Trump has done for the economy and bringing Iran to its knees … nevermind that neither is consistent with reality. In fact, the latest reports from the Trump government is that inflation moved higher again last month … to the highest level in 3 years. Yes, inflation was lower during the final 2 years of the Biden administration. All of this to help him cope with his cognitive decline and his pending mortality after continual images of his rotting hands, his incessant bragging about being able to pass rudimentary dementia tests (that seem to be a regular occurrence), and news that he's had not one, not two, but THREE physicals at Walter Reed Hospital in less than a year, along with the realization that he was facing humiliation in the mid-term elections … which, all of a sudden, he claims are meaningless for him.  And it gave Trump a chance to introduce the latest merch available for his flock to buy on his QVC-style website, even laying out his newest tacky 55-dollar baseball cap in front of each of his cabinet members. Thankfully, none of them wore them during the meeting…and there's no report if the men in the room were wearing their Trump-mandated Florsheim shoes. The Trump administration said Tuesday that it will admit an additional 10,000 white South Africans into the U.S. as refugees this year, increasing its historically low annual cap but still blocking people from other countries from entering through the program. Trump suspended the refugee program on his first day in office and, since then, has turned it into a vehicle to allow Afrikaners — a group of white South Africans descended mainly from Dutch settlers — into the U.S. And there's more than a little turmoil at Michigan State University. The Board of Trustees offered president Kevin Guskiewicz a $1-million pay raise and a contract extention. He said ‘no thanks' and, after just two years in East Lansing, moves to President of Clemson University. This, after the board enacts controversial rules muzzling individual members … and penalizing two trustees for refusing to agree to the changes. Igor… who could be this Igor or that Igor but was most likely one of this guy's Igors. Will there be a Blue Wave? There is definitely a blue swing, and one giant blue swing in Texas. Taylor Rehmet flipped a state Senate seat by 17 points, a 32 point swing, a BFD big enough to push her well-funded opponent, Leigh Wambsganns, right out of Trump's mind. Gops turned out for the election, they just turned out to not like Trump anymore. Donald K. Trump hasn't a chance of getting these voters back, but that doesn't matter if there is no voting. Minneapolis is being pushed out of the news, but ICE hasn't been pushed out, and its economic embargo is destroying the lives of all the residents. Two Latino gang members shot a white man down on the street recently, but lately the gang has moved to indiscriminate use of chemical agents in the towns that they menace. What kind of chemicals? They don't know and they don't care. If anyone complains, there's always biowarfare.  Trump might not be the biggest crook in the world, but he's the biggest in a democracy, at least in what's left of one. Like many of you, I am constantly thinking about what's going to happen in the 2026 midterms, which if you can believe it, are less than 10 months away. Unfortunately, we don't have a crystal ball. And if there's one thing we learned from 2024, it's that polls can be wrong. What we do have is data, which can predict which candidates have the best chance of winning and which districts are going to be the closest. That's why on this episode of The Siren Podcast, I had the honor of being joined by Brian Derrick, co-founder and CEO of Oath Vote. Brian and his team have created a brilliant new way to forecast which races across the nation donations can have the maximum impact in. Brian believes that political fundraising as it stands today is broken, with good-intentioned donors wasting millions on long-shot races or safe seats, when instead, that money would be better spent on a candidate running in a closer district who might not enjoy the same national stardom as other candidates. Well, what a night that was.The 2025 off-year election came and went, and I don't think anybody on the Republican side was quite ready for how hard it hit. I expected Virginia to go blue — I didn't expect it to be a total decimation. Abigail Spanberger didn't just win, she boat-raced it, besting Winsome Earle-Seares by a whopping 14 points. That momentum was even enough to carry Jay Jones, dogged by scandal after scandal, to a smaller (but no less impressive) six-point win. That's despite having an opponent with a compelling ad campaign and a story that, in a different climate, might have turned heads. It didn't matter. The wave swallows all.What stands out to me the most is how broad this Democratic surge really was. In New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill handed Jack Ciattarelli a 13-point loss, completely rewriting the expectations I had going in. I thought if Republicans were going to find any traction, it would be in the Garden State. It wasn't. In Latino-heavy areas like Passaic, New Jersey — areas that just barely swung for Trump in 2024 after 2010s results in the D+50 space — saw a reversion back to near-2020 Democratic margins. Republicans had a shot to build a new working-class coalition in those towns, and right now, it looks like they blew it.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. He did it with style, focus, and an eye for narrative. His campaign was slick, and his messaging was clear. He connected with voters who felt left behind — people priced out of housing, worried about jobs, unsure about their future. Mamdani was speaking directly to them. He predicted headlines, embraced viral moments, and even handled scrutiny around some of the more potentially-controversial moments of his name with grace and wit. His vote totals show him cracking 50 percent, a number that Cuomo and Sliwa together couldn't touch. It's an out-and-out victory for a campaign that, initially, seemed like a pipe dream for the left.What we're seeing now is a Democratic Party that knows how to win and a Republican Party still figuring out how to respond.
