Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!Is Illinois too legit to quit? How about South Florida? On today's episode of False Start, John Buhler (Lead Writer, FanSided) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) looked back at what all happened in Week 2, but through the lens of what could be coming down the pipeline in Week 3.They each reacted to the latest AP Top 25 Poll, as well as their 12-team College Football Playoff brackets. From there, they looked at how good Illinois can be this year in the Big Ten, as well as if South Florida will have staying power out of the Group of Five. For better or worse, we are still here because this is False Start!

Featured Musician: Booster THE VIDEO: [After THE JUMP: Things to be said.] --------------------- 1. Oklahoma Preview: Offense starts at noon It's John Mateer doing Tate Forcier things in an RPO-heavy system that meets its greatest challenge yet in a defense that doesn't give you any easy reads. Can their haphazard OL with one or two true freshman hold up to Michigan's DL? Can Michigan force Mateer into mistakes? Are his receivers enough to get open for him? Fascinating matchup. 2. Oklahoma Preview: Defense starts around 12:20 The other side of our Spiderman Pointing: their defense is Legit. Venables defense is the older cousin of the Don Brown system: it's 50% Don Brown's cover 1, which he calls "Brown" and 50% Dantonio's quarters. The DL get upfield in a hurry and the LBs have to make them right, but there's always a safety or two involved in the run fits to collect when you break outside. Best way to attack it is CJ Stroud and NFL receivers but we're probably not there yet. He has two hybrid OLBs so he doesn't get Devin Gil'd but those guys might be susceptible to some Bredesoning. 3. New Mexico After Review: Offense starts around 12:45 This is where we talk about Bryce Underwood. 4. New Mexico After Review: Defense starts around 1:10 PM This is where we talk about College Crappe. Featured Artist: Booster Detroit born (East side in August 1990), and Detroit educated, Booster was exposed to music from an early age from his artist/performer mother, which you can tell because his music is dripping with 1960s (you'll hear that Motown cooing in All Night Long) and 1970s (the funk in Real City) Detroit, and honed himself at the Detroit School of Arts and the music program at Kentucky State University. He's changed his approach several times in his career, but the throughline is his creativity. Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to react to the Pirates' run of success over the past couple of weeks, culminating in a series win against the defending World Serie champion Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. Could this hot streak save GM Ben Cherington's job despite the ugly start to the year? Will Bob Nutting believe in the direction he's set, especially on the pitching side? And how does Don Kelly figure into the future? Our duo tackles those questions; analyzes reasons young pitchers like Paul Skenes, Bubba Chandler, Braxton Ashcraft and Mike Burrows are arriving MLB-ready after years of prospect underachievement; and ponder whether Jared Triolo can keep up his offensive numbers and be closer to the player the Pirates hoped Ke'Bryan Hayes would become.

In the bourbon world, we often talk about lineage and tradition. But what happens when that tradition is rooted in something a little... less than legal? That's the story we're getting into today with an incredible guest. We're sitting down with Royce Neely, the owner of Neely Family Distillery, whose family has been moonshining for generations. Royce isn't just carrying on a legacy; he's bringing it out of the backwoods. He's taking us through his fascinating journey, from studying at Transylvania University to building his own distillery from the ground up. He's diving deep into the science and the art behind his craft, explaining his obsession with yeast, the secrets of sweet mashing, and what it takes to produce an award-winning absinthe. We're also getting an exclusive look at what's next for his distillery, including the installation of a one-of-a-kind three-chamber still designed to take his game to a whole new level. Show Notes: The origins and development of Neely Family Distillery Royce's early interactions with moonshining and their influence on his career Key distillation techniques, including sweet mashing and yeast selection Insights into the distillery's acclaimed absinthe and market challenges The anticipated impact of the new three-chamber still on whiskey production The significance of family and collaboration in Royce's distillation process Support this podcast on Patreon Learn more about your ad choices. I've recently written about how I've updated against seeing substantially faster than trend AI progress due to quickly massively scaling up RL on agentic software engineering. One response I've heard is something like: RL scale-ups so far have used very crappy environments due to difficulty quickly sourcing enough decent (or even high quality) environments. Thus, once AI companies manage to get their hands on actually good RL environments (which could happen pretty quickly), performance will increase a bunch. Another way to put this response is that AI companies haven't actually done a good job scaling up RL—they've scaled up the compute, but with low quality data—and once they actually do the RL scale up for real this time, there will be a big jump in AI capabilities (which yields substantially above trend progress). I'm skeptical of this argument because I think that ongoing improvements to RL environments [...] ---Outline:(04:18) Counterargument: Actually, companies havent gotten around to improving RL environment quality until recently (or there is substantial lead time on scaling up RL environments etc.) so better RL environments didnt drive much of late 2024 and 2025 progress(05:24) Counterargument: AIs will soon reach a critical capability threshold where AIs themselves can build high quality RL environments(06:51) Counterargument: AI companies are massively fucking up their training runs (either pretraining or RL) and once they get their shit together more, well see fast progress(08:34) Counterargument: This isnt that related to RL scale up, but OpenAI has some massive internal advance in verification which they demonstrated via getting IMO gold and this will cause (much) faster progress late this year or early next year(10:12) Thoughts and speculation on scaling up the quality of RL environmentsThe original text contained 5 footnotes which were omitted from this narration. --- First published: September 3rd, 2025 Source: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/HsLWpZ2zad43nzvWi/trust-me-bro-just-one-more-rl-scale-up-this-one-will-be-the --- Narrated by TYPE III AUDIO.
