Guido weighs in - van Rossum says projects are holding emergency meetings over the slop flow, and notes LLM patches tend to touch unrelated parts of a file, making review more tedious. "Vibe Coding Kills Open Source" - paper from Miklós Koren's group: packages frequently recommended by coding models saw big download jumps with no matching engagement, breaking the reputation loop that sustains maintainers. Learner quotes Stenberg saying AI tools are much better at finding problems than fixing them. That's the April thesis in one line, and it goes undeveloped. Reason for the shift is process, not vibes. Killing the bounty removed the cash incentive and the venue change filtered the rest. Worth saying out loud, because "AI reports got better" isn't quite it - "no bounty plus a real triage platform" is closer. As usual with phishing scams there are a bunch of tells that this isn't legitimate, but just enough plausibility that I could see falling for it in a weak moment. Relative nobodies like me haven't historically been worth the effort to hit with scams this specific. Agents change the game though :-/. Be careful out there folks! Original message From: "Patrick (Blacktrace)" [HTML_REMOVED] To: LISTENER EMAIL Subject: Your Bandit #1350 (B105 NextToken false positive) -- just fixed that exact case Date: Wednesday, July 15, 2026 12:02 AM Hi AJ, Saw your Bandit issue #1350 -- the B105 hardcoded-password false positive on the string NextToken. I build a deterministic gate that filters that class of Bandit noise, and #1350 was literally the case I just fixed: NextToken / next_token / page_token / nextPageToken now stay quiet, while a genuine hardcoded token like api_token="sk-live-..." still fires. Verified against your exact case. 30-second paste: https://blacktrace.co/noise-eraser Where it still trips, published: https://blacktrace.co/kruc Curious whether it clears what you hit -- and if it trips on something of yours, that's the more useful reply. Patrick, Blacktrace I asked Claude for some analysis too. It was pretty good at finding them. The message name-drops enough real detail to feel legit, but the structure is pure phishing - everything in it exists to get AJ onto blacktrace.co. The strongest ones: Freemail sender, corporate signoff. Signs as "Patrick, Blacktrace" but sends from emailpjv@gmail.com. Real company outreach comes from the company domain, not a personal Gmail - and there's no last name. Over-specific targeting. It mirrors AJ's exact public activity - issue #1350, the B105 rule, the NextToken false positive, even the token variants. That's the "just enough plausibility" AJ flagged, and it's exactly what agents make cheap: scrape a GitHub issue, auto-generate tailored bait. Legit cold outreach rarely reads your history back to you this precisely. The entire payload is two links. Strip the technical flattery and the message is just "paste here" plus "see results here." When the whole point of an email is the click, that's the tell. "30-second paste." Low-friction urgency, and "paste" most likely means paste your source into their tool - handing your code to a stranger's site. Exfiltration dressed as convenience. Brand-new, no-reputation domain. blacktrace.co has no track record, and the name is doing some ominous work. The /kruc slug is random noise, not how real product pages get named. Precise-sounding jargon that's actually vague. "Deterministic gate," "noise-eraser" - impressive, empty. Bolted onto correct real details (B105 is the Bandit hardcoded-password test, sk-live- is a Stripe live-key prefix) to borrow credibility. The disarming close. "if it trips on something of yours, that's the more useful reply" - engineered humility that flatters your expertise and baits a response. Makes engaging feel like you're doing them a favor, which drops your guard. I had no idea the all-star game was happening. There are, it’s kind of a dive bar, yeah it’s pretty much a dive bar but they do serve food so we ordered some wings. 00:01:17 We got a cup, we’re drinking a fine Corona, an undisclosed person and cheers. I’m going to make this short because I’m not going to stay here all night and do a podcast 00:01:55 but we drove, what did we do? We stayed in Winnemucca last night and drove to Elko, Nevada, ate at a Basque restaurant, pretty good Basque lunch, apparently there’s a big Basque population in Elko, Nevada. I think there is in Winnemucca as well. We looked for a dive bar last night and we walked around, we were a little bit afraid 00:02:23 walking in the dark but we managed to make it back alive. The first place we were going to go to was the Butch Cassidy Hole in the Wall, Butch Cassidy Waterhole in the Wall, something like that. It looked shitty, it had fluorescent lights, so we said, ah, we’ll look for somewhere else, maybe we’ll go to the casino and on the way to the casino we found the perfect dive bar. 00:02:45 I don’t remember what it was called, do you remember what it was called? Something tap room, but they didn’t have any tap, oh, the Cheers Tap Room, but there was no tap, it was just a dive bar. That was a really good dive bar, so we had a good time, we had a few drinks and then came back to the room, left this morning and stopped in Elko, Nevada, had lunch, where we parked there was a strip club, it said, I forget what the name of it was, but it said Dancing and Diddling, and we’re like, what’s diddling, I don’t know what that means, I 00:03:25 know what diddling means, it means, isn’t diddling when you put your finger down there on the girl and you mess around with her, and I said, oh, huh, okay, it’s a joke, then I looked to the left and there’s a legal brothel right across the street and then there’s an Asian legal brothel right next to that, one was called Ann’s, what was it called, Mona’s what, Mona’s Dollhouse or something like that, Mona’s Ranch, and then there was Anna’s Ranch, 00:03:59 one had Chinese lanterns hanging out of it, hanging outside, and the other one didn’t. Have you ever felt like you were walking through quicksand every single day in your business? Like you were taking three steps forward and two steps back no matter how hard you worked? That was Tim Calise's life for years, and it might be yours right now too. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I brought in Tim Calise for our AI Masterclass Workshop during our Happy Hustle Club meeting, and I sat down to soak up everything he's learned about scaling with artificial intelligence. Tim's path has been anything but a straight line. He started a late night snack delivery business in college, recruiting his fraternity brothers to help him hustle. From there he launched a hedge fund in his early twenties and had to give it all back right before the 2008 crash. He got into fitness and technology after that, joining Alex and Layla Hormozi at Gym Launch, where his team took the company from zero to 35 million dollars in revenue in under a year and a half, then added two more businesses worth over 50 million a year on top of that. Eventually he moved to Nashville, met his current business partner, the guy who actually created the technology behind Apple Pay, and now runs a house of brands company that spans compliance, auditability, and moving money around the world. Tim is a husband of 18 years, a father of three, and he's built a team of about 160 people around the globe that operates 24 hours a day. His company will do around 5 billion dollars in turnover this year, and they've been in business for less than 18 months. I wanted Tim on this stage because he's not talking theory. He's talking about what he is literally doing right now to run a company at this scale without burning himself out or losing time with his family. That's the whole point of the Happy Hustle. Build something big without sacrificing the people and the life that matter most. Here's what stuck with me most from his talk. AI is not just a better tool, it's a fifth form of leverage. Tim broke down the four types of leverage that have driven wealth for the past 200 years: labor, capital, code, and content. Each one takes time, money, or both to build. AI is different. It's permissionless, you don't need to ask anyone, and once you deploy it, it keeps working for you. Capacity outpacing sales is a good problem to have. Most businesses bleed money because they build out people and systems before the revenue shows up. Tim's team flipped that. They have more opportunity than people right now, and AI is what lets them architect for the future they already know is coming. His team built an agent that hunts for clients around the clock. It crawls the internet looking for nuanced signals, like specific plugins on a website, that flag a great fit client. It scores leads automatically and populates their CRM without a human touching it. One of those messages landed a call with a company doing a billion and a half dollars a year in revenue, and Tim's team didn't even know the message went out until the reply came in. The real win isn't the revenue, it's his time back. Tim was honest about the years he spent fighting an uphill battle in business, never having the right tools. Now he says his marriage is in the best spot it's ever been, and he can spend time with his kids on his own schedule instead of whatever time was left over. Humans still run the show. Even with agents doing the heavy lifting, Tim's principle is simple. The agent does the work, humans stay informed and empowered, and every exception gets handled at the people level.
