Welcome to the last episode of Brief Biographies of Famous People! This is your host, Ajay. For episode 11 of this podcast, we will be discussing the life of Jack Nicholson: Acclaimed Actor and Academy Award winner. On April 22nd of 1937, Jack Nicholson was born. His mother June, was seventeen at the time and was a dancer. Fo many years, the identity of Jack's father would remain contested. June was married to Don Fucillo, who was already married years prior. Due to all of this, June's parents agreed to raise him, with June herself taking the role of Jack's sister. Nicholson would learn about this years later, in 1974. Nicholson was raised in Neptune City and Spring Lake, New Jersey, where he became a Roman Catholic and attended high school at Manasquan High School. He was voted Class Clown by the school in 1954. However, Nicholson also did not like school much. For an entire school year, he attended detention. In 1957, in order to avoid the draft for the Korean War, Nicholson enrolled in the California National Guard. He left in 1962, after working for long hours of extended work. The family was devoutly Catholic, which influenced Martin's later career as a film director. Growing up, Martin often suffered from asthma and was rarely able to participate in sports and school. On August 14thof 1851, John Henry Holliday was born to Henry Burroughs Holliday and Alice Jane Holliday. Henry was a veteran from the Mexican-American war and would later serve during the Civil War of the 1860s, as a Confederate soldier. During his time in the Mexican-American war, Henry adopted a son names Francisco, who still lived with the family. On the other hand, John, who will now on be referred to as Doc, was baptized in 1852 at the First Presbyterian Church of Georgia. As a kid, Ray was a pianist and opened several extremely small businesses, such as a soda fountain. At the age of 15, after the end of World War I, Ray became a Red Cross ambulance driver, falsifying his age to get the job. By 1897, Louis Arzner was involved in a major restaurant chain, which was often visited by Hollywood stars such as Mary Pickford(an actress and producer), Mack Senett(a studio head commonly known as “The King of Comedy”), and Douglas Fairbanks (an actor, screenwriter, director, and producer).
