The Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade & NBA Draft BLOWS UP Gil's Arena as the Gil's Arena Crew reacts to a wild start of the NBA offseason as the Greek Freak's nasty divorce with the Milwaukee Bucks finally came to an end with a blockbuster trade to the Miami Heat and the next generation of NBA Superstars entered the league in one of the most loaded drafts in NBA History. They tip things off by breaking down AJ Dybantsa landing with the Washington Wizards as the #1 overall pick in the draft and discuss what the superstar from BYU brings to this Wizards squad that's looking to build around Trae Young & Anthony Davis to finally get back into the NBA Playoffs. They also discuss Darryn Peterson landing with the Utah Jazz at #2 despite his up and down college season and highlight Darius Acuff Jr as the biggest steal in the class as the projected top 5 pick slid all the way to #7 with the Sacramento Kings. They then give their biggest winners and losers of the 1st Round and debate which rookie will have the biggest impact this coming season, before moving on to the biggest news of the NBA Offseason so far as Giannis Antetokounmpo was dealt to the Miami Heat in one of the biggest blockbuster trades in NBA History. They give their reaction to the Greek Freak taking his talents to South Beach and debate if the former MVP's presence alongside Bam Adebayo and a murky bench moves the needle for a Miami Heat team desperately looking to make a deeper run in the NBA Playoffs. They also examine the Milwaukee Buck's return for their franchise superstar and debate if the team got enough assets in the mega trade before analyzing the Boston Celtics' place in the entire saga as they were rumored to put Jaylen Brown on the market to try and land Giannis, potentially destroying their relationship with their Finals MVP. Finally, they react to Austin Reaves signing a max contract to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of NBA Free Agency and debate if Luka Doncic & Lemon Daddy are the superstar duo the Lakers need to make a push for an NBA Title. World Cup fever? No way. As the saying goes, I'd rather watch paint dry. Soccer may be a fun game for kids to play, but it can be downright boring watching it in person and, moreso, on television. But if you enjoy watching the World Cup soccer on television, go for it! You still have another 35 days to go. I'll tune in whenever I need a nap. My weekend television viewing was spent watching more traditional sporting events. Let's jump right in. NBA Finals – New York Knicks took the title 94-90 on Saturday night The New York Knicks have won their first NBA title since 1973. Finals MVP guard Jalen Brunson played like a dead ringer for Knicks legend Earl “The Pearl” Monroe from that 1973 title team. The now 81-year old Earl Monroe was named one of the NBA's top 50 players of the 20th century. He was known for his uncanny ability to “shake and bake” defenders in order to get his shots away. He and teammate Walt Frazier were both inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall-of Fame. Jalen Brunson (who is generously listed at 6'1”) weaved his way in, around, and through the giant San Antonio Spurs defense for one great shot after another during this series. His 45 points in Saturday night's deciding Game 5 in San Antonio accounted for nearly half of his team's 94 point total. The San Antonio Spurs came into this series considered as a slight favorite after knocking-off defending champion Oklahoma City in the Western Conference finals. San Antonio played like Wile E. Coyote for this entire series. I blame their coach for that. Every game in this five game series had the San Antonio Spurs racing out to a double digit lead. In each game, the New York Knicks patiently waited for their chance to blow past their unfocused opponent. Much like legendary cartoon character Wile E. Coyote, the Spurs looked and acted overconfident at the beginning of every game in this series. At the end of all but one game, it was the Spurs going over the proverbial cliff and going “poof” at the bottom of the canyon. San Antonio's coaches and players should have learned a few lessons during home losses in Games 1 and 2 of this series. After grabbing a close win in Game 3 in New York, these “Same Old Spurs” reappeared in a big way midway through Game 4 last week. San Antonio blew the largest lead ever in an NBA Finals game (29 points) to fall behind 3-1 in the series. There was no way that San Antonio could lose a third straight home game in Game 5, right? Saturday night's Game 5 in San Antonio had the Spurs doing exactly the same thing they had done in every other loss. They raced to an early double digit lead (16 points in Game 5) and then folded like a cheap beach chair during the second half once again. I place the blame for poor strategy and on-court execution on the San Antonio coaches for making the same second half mistakes in this series over and over again. The feckless Spurs appeared dazed during the fourth quarter of these five games. They averaged a paltry 21 points during the all-important fourth quarters of these NBA Finals. When the chips were down, the Spurs functioned like a rudderless ship, while their head coach seemed to push all the wrong buttons. San Antonio guard De'Aaron Fox is paid $51 million per year. He averaged nearly 19 points per game in the regular season but tanked to just over 14 points per game during the NBA Finals. Fox tallied only 7 points on 3-15 from the field in Game 5 in San Antonio on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Spurs 7'4” center-turned-point guard named Victor Wembanyama continued to take and miss a significant number of unnecessary 3-point shots. Why is he allowed to shoot those shots instead of play closer to the basket? The coach allows it. These collapses occurred under the watch of San Antonio's 39-year old head coach Mitch Johnson. He took over the head coaching job after apprenticing under Spurs 5-time NBA champion coach Gregg Popovich. Mitch Johnson took over this team in 2025. This was his first time coaching a team in the NBA playoffs. Coach Johnson curiously kept Spurs' dynamic sixth man Dylan Harper on the bench to start pivotal Game 5 while leaving ineffective De'Aaron Fox as the starter. Harper (who scored 25 points in 31 minutes of action) was clearly the better player in this series. Why wasn’t he played more? ESPN’s Charles Barkley asked the same question during halftime of Game 5. The former NBA player-turned-commentator said the Spurs would be better off putting De’Aaron Fox on the bench in the second half. That didn’t happen. Barkley turned out to be right. The Spurs are now done for this season. Congratulations to the New York Knicks. A ticker tape victory parade for the team will take place on Thursday in Manhattan. Carolina Hurricanes won the 2026 Stanley Cup title Sunday night The Carolina Hurricanes took a 3-0 road win to close out the Stanley Cup four games to two over the Las Vegas Golden Knights. It was the second title for the Raleigh-based NHL team in the past 20 seasons. Congratulations to the Canes! (OK – I don't watch enough hockey to have any further thoughts on this subject) Surprising Louisville Kings dethrone DC Defenders in UFL United Bowl III title game The expansion Louisville Kings started their first season 0-3. This team came together to finish the regular season at 6-4 and earn a spot in the UFL playoffs. Louisville was just 2-3 at home but a solid 4-1 on the road during the regular season. The Kings had to travel to Washington DC to play the 2025 champion DC Defenders in the UFL title game on Saturday. A sellout crowd of more than 19,000 fans at Audi Field in Washington saw Louisville come from behind after halftime to take a 27-20 win over ol' DC. The Defenders led 16-7 at the intermission and were clinging to a 16-13 advantage after three periods. Louisville then tallied two fourth quarter running touchdowns to win the title in Season #3 of spring’s United Football League. DC finished their season with a 7-5 record. PGA journeyman golfer finally wins. This Bud's for you, Mr. Cauley! Bud Cauley was a three-time college All-American golfer at the University of Alabama. He turned professional 15 years ago in 2011. He played well enough during his first few years on the PGA Tour to keep his playing card despite no first place finishes. Cauley suffered a broken leg, five broken ribs, and a collapsed lung in an automobile accident while playing in Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament in 2018. After several complications in his recovery, he finally resumed playing professional golf six years later in 2024. Bud Cauley was winless in his 238 career PGA Tour starts prior to last weekend's Canadian Open near Toronto. The 36-year old journeyman golfer rediscovered his youthful putting stroke on Sunday. Cauley’s birdie barrage (along with a few key breaks) led to a closing round 65 and his first PGA Tour win. His 17-under par total was two shots better than Matt Fitzpatrick and three better than Viktor Hovland. Bud Cauley's first win came at the same golf tournament which was also the site of golfing great Arnold Palmer's first victory. Arnie pocketed $2,400 for his win back in 1955. Guess how much money that would be this year in 2026? Answer: $30,000 Bud Cauley's win on Sunday carried a first prize of $1,764,000. Even the worst finisher in the field (74th place) at the 2026 Canadian Open took home more than $19,500. Sunday's first triumph will bring some nifty fringe benefits, too. The win put Cauley into this week's US Open at Shinnecock Hills. He will also be in the field for July's Open Championship (British Open) and next spring's Masters. More importantly, the win made Bud Cauley exempt from having to qualify for future PGA Tour events for two years after this season ends. Cauley's wife and his two young sons ran onto the 18th green to greet him and celebrate after he tapped in for the win. It's now off to Long Island in New York and a spot in Thursday's US Open for the rejuvenated Bud Cauley! The post A Weekend of Champions appeared first on SwampSwamiSports.com.

Jalen Brunson won Finals MVP, but one of the Joes thinks that OG Anunoby should have won the award

53 years. FIFTY-THREE YEARS. The Knicks are NBA champions, Jalen Brunson is your Finals MVP after a 45-point masterpiece, and the most chaotic comeback-fueled Finals in recent memory is officially over. Matt, Faces, and Ryan break down Game 5, the entire series, and what this title means for the Knicks (and the Spurs' future).
The NBA season is officially over. The Knicks are champions, Jalen Brunson has his Finals MVP, and yes… Ryan gives New York their flowers. Brad, on the other hand, isn't quite ready to go that far. In this season wrap-up episode, we discuss the Knicks' championship run, Brunson's Finals MVP performance, the conversation surrounding his contract and willingness to take less money, and the iconic Game 4 shot from IU's OG Anunoby that helped swing the series. But more importantly, we shift our focus to what comes next. With Tyrese Haliburton expected back next season, the Pacers enter the offseason in a familiar position: overlooked. Despite a roster loaded with talent, Vegas oddsmakers and national media continue to underestimate Indiana's ceiling, and that perceived disrespect could become a powerful motivator for a team with legitimate championship aspirations. The Knicks got their moment. Now it's time for Indiana to begin writing its comeback story. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. AP correspondent Julie Walker reports Jalen Brunson bet on himself and bet on the Knicks. A championship and a Finals MVP was his reward.
NFL.com just released its 2026 divisional quarterback rankings, and the NFC South landed dead last — with Bryce Young singled out as the swing factor. The verdict was familiar: talented, but too inconsistent to trust on a weekly basis heading into his third year under Dave Canales. In this episode, we're breaking down that ranking, why it might be missing the bigger picture, and what's actually happening behind the scenes in Charlotte that could define the next five years of Panthers football.First, the counterpoint. The entire NFC South got dinged, not just Bryce — and in 2025, Young posted career highs across the board: 63.6% completion percentage, 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and a playoff berth that delivered Carolina's first NFC South title since 2015. He also came one defensive stop away from a second straight playoff upset against the best roster in football. The "highs and lows" critique isn't wrong, but it's only half the story. Then there's the wrinkle nobody's talking about: Taylor Moton. At 31 years old and entering his 10th season, Moton was just named one of 21 NFL players whose PFF grade has climbed for three consecutive years running — from a career-low 69.3 in 2022 all the way up to 80.5 in 2025. He's played in 129 of 134 possible games since becoming a full-time starter. While the league focuses on Bryce, Carolina's right tackle is quietly having the best stretch of his career at an age when most linemen are declining. That sets up the real thesis of this episode: what if Carolina's blueprint is already sitting in the building? Philadelphia built a championship around Jalen Hurts using an elite, aging offensive line to buy a young quarterback time to develop. Carolina has the early shape of that exact model — Moton up front, Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis controlling the interior, and a young QB who has already shown flashes of the poise that model requires. Monroe Freeling, this year's first-round pick, gives the front office insurance at either tackle spot whenever Moton's window closes — and there's a real cap decision looming, with $14.5 million in savings on the table if Moton is released next offseason, right as Bryce becomes extension-eligible.Which brings us to the Brunson question. In 2024, Jalen Brunson left $113 million on the table to give the Knicks cap flexibility — and 14 months later he was hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy as Finals MVP. Could a below-market Bryce Young extension be the move that lets Carolina retain Jalen Coker, extend the receiver room, and build the roster around him the same way? Finally, we go inside the building with former Panthers tight end Dominic Daphne, who spent last summer in Canales' system. He breaks down why this tight end room doesn't need a single star to be dangerous, what makes the offense so detail-obsessed in the offseason program, and what he says is the most underrated part of Bryce Young's game.Subscribe and hit the bell — this is the conversation Panthers fans need to be having heading into camp. Keep Pounding.

Paul Pierce is an NBA Hall of Famer, NBA Champion, Finals MVP, and one of the 75 greatest players in basketball history. In this episode, Travis breaks down the biggest lessons he learned from his conversation with Paul, exploring how elite performers use goal setting, environment design, relentless work ethic, and an underdog mentality to achieve extraordinary success. Whether you're building a business, advancing your career, or pursuing a personal goal, Paul's journey offers valuable insights into what it takes to perform at the highest level. On this episode we talk about: Why short-term goals are the foundation of long-term success How your environment shapes your habits, decisions, and outcomes The difference between talent and the work required to maximize it Using rejection, setbacks, and being underestimated as motivation Why appreciating success in the moment is harder—and more important—than most people realize Top 3 Takeaways Focus on the next step, not the entire staircase. Long-term success is built through a series of achievable short-term goals that create momentum and confidence. Design your environment for success. It's easier to build winning habits when your surroundings support your goals rather than constantly tempt you away from them. Talent only creates opportunity. Consistent effort, discipline, and work ethic are what separate high performers from everyone else at the highest levels. Notable Quotes "Short-term goals are the engine of long-term greatness." "Control your environment before it controls you." "Talent without work is just potential—and potential does not make Hall of Famers." Old man cravings and recapping Game 3 of the NBA Finals with NBA analyst Michael Wallace.
The 2026 NBA Finals shift into a pivotal Game 4 tonight as the New York Knicks look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs. After San Antonio's 115-111 win in Game 3, all eyes are on Victor Wembanyama, who dominated with 32 points and completely changed the series with his rim protection and ability to control the paint. The Knicks still lead 2-1, but another Wemby masterpiece could swing the momentum back to San Antonio heading home. If the Spurs ultimately win this series, it's hard to see anyone other than Victor Wembanyama taking home Finals MVP. He's been the most impactful player on the floor on both ends and is beginning to solve New York's offense while creating matchup nightmares for the Knicks. The Cardinals continue their series against the Mets looking to build momentum. How good are the Birds right now? Out west, the Cubs continue their series with the Rockies. How bleak are things for the Cubs right now? Plus, Evan Stone transforms into Hulk Hogan to react to the growing excitement around the 2026 FIFA World Cup. "Whatcha gonna do, brother, when World Cup Mania runs wild on YOU?!"
Evan and Tiki continue debating OG Anunoby's value to the Knicks and why he has become exactly the kind of player the franchise hoped RJ Barrett could be. Evan makes the case that through three games of the NBA Finals, OG has been the Knicks' best Finals MVP candidate, while Karl-Anthony Towns' fourth quarter struggles raise concerns. The guys also revisit the officiating debate around Victor Wembanyama, with callers arguing that missed calls may have protected him from foul trouble and possible flagrant penalties. Evan and Tiki push through the difference between protecting Wemby physically and protecting his availability, while the discussion ends with whether Mike Brown's criticism of the refs was a masterclass or something former players like Shaq and Charles Barkley would never accept.
Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber dive into the Knicks' NBA Finals conversation, starting with a lively debate over who deserves Finals MVP consideration. Jalen Brunson's clutch moments are weighed against his shooting struggles, while Karl Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby emerge as serious candidates because of their defense, efficiency and impact. The conversation also turns to the chaos around Madison Square Garden with the president expected at the game, creating security concerns, travel headaches and plenty of frustration for fans. From traffic warnings and arena logistics to memories of past Knicks heartbreak, Evan and Tiki capture the excitement, anxiety and absurdity surrounding a massive Finals night in New York.
Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber dive into the Knicks' NBA Finals MVP debate, weighing Jalen Brunson's clutch moments against Karl-Anthony Towns' all around impact. Brunson has delivered late, but his shooting struggles open the door for a bigger conversation about who has truly shaped the series. The guys make the case for Towns as the difference maker because of his offense, his defense on Victor Wembanyama, and the matchup problems he creates. They also spotlight OG Anunoby as a sneaky contender, discuss Brunson's claim as King of New York, and react to the traffic chaos around Madison Square Garden caused by the president's visit.
