Scripture: Ephesians 5:19-21Wayne Luman, associate pastorPastor Wayne finishes our Healthy Church series by addressing the call from Jesus, through Paul, to be a community that submits to one another out of reverence for Christ. In the same way that Jesus submitted Himself to death on a cross (Philippians 2), we are to grow in our capacity to “die to self” surrendering our own will to the purposes of God, worked out through His people. This is one of the defining qualities of love.
Pastor Todd unpacks Paul's teaching in Ephesians 4 by exploring the five-fold ministry (apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers) and looking at how this five fold ministry existed in perfect unity in Jesus. Jesus was the perfect embodiment of all five and Jesus has imparted Himself to His Church. We continue what He began, empowered and held together by the Spirit.Scripture: Ephesians 4:11-16 (NIV)Todd Willard, associate pastor#healthychurch#oldwethersfield#thetombisempty#heisonthethrone#jesusisgreaterthancovid19 #hiskingdomcome #cultivateanenvironmentofobedience__________________________________________________________________________________________First Church mission: "We are a community of Jesus who love God, love one another, and make disciples." First Church vision: "In response to God's unique call in this time and place, we of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield will rise up to foster a Kingdom movement of faith, hope and love that will transform our community, our state, the New England region and beyond to the glory of God. Building on the historic faith tradition planted here in 1635, we will love God and our neighbors near and far in deep and profound ways, taking bold action to raise the next generation of disciples, and joining with other bodies of believers extend the Kingdom as God leads us."_________________________________________________________________________________________New to our channel? Scripture: Ephesians 4:7-8Wayne Luman, associate pastorPastor Wayne speaks about the holistic way in which the Spirit fills and empowers the Church. The gifting of the Spirit is more than the spiritual gifts Paul describes in texts like I Corinthians 12. The spirit fills us to re-form us into the likeness of Jesus, His body, here on earth, for the sake of the world.
