Devotion : Nebuchadnezzar Praises God / Daniel 4:1-3 by Community Lutheran Church
This Sunday we have guest speaker Charles Kimbangi Associate Minister of Christ Church Surbiton Hill speaking on Daniel 4. Charles walks us through King Nebuchadnezzar's story reminding us that God's saves in his timing not ours.
Kings Will Bow: Daniel 4 - Ken Davies - 25.05.25 by Wollongong Baptist Church
It's amazing at times what you can find when you're looking for something else on your computer screen! I found this gem of a short letter/devotional on my Home Screen and thought it was worth sharing to my listeners. It details a letter written by the third President, Thomas Jefferson, at the request of one of his friends who named his son after Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson wrote a kind and informative short letter that the boy would receive when he reached his age of understanding. Jefferson noted that he took a particular interest in the lad since he bore his name. There is much to be said in Jefferson's words as they offer insight to much biblical admonition with a focus on God's providence. On this episode of 2Days Denarius, we will read and examine this letter, highlighting Jefferson's encouraging words that often reflected the ways and commandments of God. We will also place a magnifying glass on one of the great stories of God's sovereignty and providence from the life of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4 to better understand God's providence in His world and our lives. A transcript of the letter itself is provided below.Monticello, February 21, 1825This letter will, to you, be as one from the dead. The writer will be in the grave before you can weigh its counsels. Your affectionate and excellent father has requested that I would address to you something which might possibly have a favorable influence on the course of life you have to run, and I too, as a namesake, feel an interest in that course. Few words will be necessary, with good dispositions on your part. Adore God. Reverence and cherish your parents. Love your neighbor as yourself, and your country more than yourself. Be just. Be true. Murmur not at the ways of Providence. So shall the life into which you have entered, be the portal to one of eternal and ineffable bliss. And if to the dead it is permitted to care for the things of this world, every action of your life will be under my regard. Tonight's message is a little different, very condensed and short, due to The Week of Prayer and Fasting. Calvary Corvallis church joined us and prayed with us this evening, it is an annual event. That being said, Chad briefly touched on Daniel 4 and some of its highlights. Thanks for listening!
Pastor James Crawford continues the study of Daniel 4, sharing a powerful message on humility and restoration amidst personal distractions and cultural challenges. Reflecting on King Nebuchadnezzar's fall from pride to madness and his eventual worship of God, Pastor James urges believers to heed God's warnings and humble themselves before consequences strike. He connects this to modern struggles with pride, drawing from personal experiences and societal pressures to exalt self over God. Through Nebuchadnezzar's testimony, he emphasizes that no one—not even the proudest—is beyond God's grace. Pastor James calls for heartfelt worship and prayer for those who hurt us, trusting God to sweetly break and restore, offering hope for all.Verse References: Daniel 4 verses 27–37, Galatians 6 verse 7, James 4 verse 6, Psalm 121 verses 1–2, James 4 verse 10Make sure you subscribe to this channel and follow us on all our platforms to always stay up to date with our latest content! And you can always head over to our website for any general information!https://godspeak.comPrayer/NeedsIf you have any needs, or have a willingness to be used to meet various need in the body, please email info@godspeak.com.

The conversation continues! We've gone from Romans 9, with the Potter and His vessels He made for both His glory and for destruction, to the humbling of Job, and God answering Job, to today- the humbling of Nebuchanezzer. We can all learn a lot from these passages in scripture! We can avoid the need for such a massive rebuke by remembering that God is truth and justice, and whatever we may be going through in our lives, that we need to trust that God is doing it for our own refinement and maturing. All trials are tests to find out the truth of our character. “The Humbling of Nebuchadnezzar” - Daniel 4:19-37
“Nebuchadnezzar's Second Troubling Dream” - Daniel 4:1-18
In Daniel 4, King Nebuchadnezzar has a terrifying dream of a mighty tree being cut down. Daniel reveals its meaning: God will humble Nebuchadnezzar for his pride unless he repents. The king ignores the warning, and one year later, he loses everything—his kingdom, his sanity, and his dignity—living like an animal for seven years. Eventually, he acknowledges God's authority, and God restores him.
I wonder how many neurological or psychological disorders you are familiar with? How about “PTSD” or “ADHD” or “Bi-Polar” or “GAD” or “Agoraphobia” or “panic disorder” or “Manic” or “Schizophrenia”, and the list goes on, doesn’t it? The world of therapists and medications is growing rapidly to treat an ever growing list of dysfunctions in humanity. I wonder what psychologists would say happened to King Nebuchadnezzar about 2600 years ago, as Daniel records it for us in Daniel 4? In this sermon, Pastor Aaron encourages us to humble ourselves before God does it for us.
This week we talk a bunch of nonsense because we're all tired from a long conference weekend, but, of course, we mostly talk about Daniel Chapter 4. Our main idea is humility; both personal and our role in respectfully helping others toward humility.
In recent weeks ‘Executive Orders’ and “Negotiated Proclamations” have been issued by some of the most powerful people in the world and the results have been very significant. Usually, such powerful documents are political or military or economic in nature but today let’s look at one of the most significant of all time. This document was auto biographical, issued by none other than King Nebuchadnezzar himself, sovereign over the Babylonian empire. The opening paragraph of this remarkable document is unlike any other I’ve ever read: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to the nations and peoples of every language who live in all the world. May you prosper greatly. It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me. How great are HIS signs, how mighty HIS wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; His dominion endures from generation to generation.” (Daniel 4:1-3)(Click here to see full text, images and links) Today’s Scripture: Daniel 4:1-9. Scripture Reading: Daniel 4 King Nebuchadnezzar was the sovereign king who conquered the remaining kingdom of Israel in 605 B.C. (some 120 years after the northern 10 tribes had already been conquered by Assyria). Tempted to boast in his own strength and military conquests, Nebuchadnezzar had grown arrogant. God sends him a dream with urgent significance for his life, but the king (with all the wise men of Babylon) can't understand the meaning and thus calls on Daniel to interpret the dream for him. In time, the dream comes true and Nebuchadnezzar is humbled by the sickness of insanity, from which he recovers only after he acknowledges the sovereign reign of the Most High God of Israel. So today, our pride can blind us from seeing our own faults and the ultimate sources of our blessings. Pride blinds us to our own temporality or limitations and to the grandeur and eternality of God. There's only room for one person to be on the saddle of your life: if you're calling all the shots, there's no room for God. Today we need a new vision—Nebuchadnezzar's vision—of the eternal sovereignty and glory of God. Replace your self-confidence with God-confidence (not me, my worth, my rights, my kingdom but God: God's worth, God's ability to work in this situation, God's kingdom.) His works are true and faithful (whereas I'm tempted to lie, sugar-coat, exaggerate, tell half the story.) I can't always keep my word; I can't always fulfill my responsibilities. God can. He does. His ways are just: I've failed and sinned, but all his ways are just: both when he gives and when he takes away, as Job said, blessed be His name. He can humble the proud. C.S. Lewis: “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” - If you're thinking “I'm horrible”, or “I'm ugly” and always harshly criticizing yourself, that's not humility: you're still thinking of “YOU”. Want to change? Admit you're proud, and ask God for grace to change and grow. James 4:6 “God resists the proud and he gives grace to the humble.”
Pastor Olubi Johnson teaches us that our names are initially recorded in the Book of Life but must also be written in the Book of the Lamb through salvation to be engraved in the Heavenly City's walls. Like Daniel, who through prayer and intercession influenced kings and changed history, we too can exercise spiritual authority in heavenly places. Daniel's example shows us that through the fear of God and faithful intercession, we can participate in establishing God's will on earth, setting up or removing kings according to divine purpose, just as Daniel did in Babylon.
27 Daniel 4; 19 Psalms 145-146; 58 Hebrews 10
Tree stumps can very easily represent the negative things in our life; the things we have lost. However, God can use the stumps in our life to spring forth new life in us. Tune in to this third sermon in our For the Trees series.
4 King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you! 2 It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me. 3 How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation. Nebuchadnezzar's Second Dream4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and prospering in my palace. 5 I saw a dream that made me afraid. As I lay in bed the fancies and the visions of my head alarmed me. 6 So I made a decree that all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers came in, and I told them the dream, but they could not make known to me its interpretation. 8 At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods—and I told him the dream, saying, 9 “O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery is too difficult for you, tell me the visions of my dream that I saw and their interpretation. 10 The visions of my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great. 11 The tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth. 12 Its leaves were beautiful and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all. The beasts of the field found shade under it, and the birds of the heavens lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it. 13 “I saw in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven. 14 He proclaimed aloud and said thus: ‘Chop down the tree and lop off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the beasts flee from under it and the birds from its branches. 15 But leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, amid the tender grass of the field. Let him be wet with the dew of heaven. Let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth. 16 Let his mind be changed from a man's, and let a beast's mind be given to him; and let seven periods of time pass over him. 17 The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will and sets over it the lowliest of men.' 18 This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. And you, O Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation, but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.” Daniel Interprets the Second Dream19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was dismayed for a while, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king answered and said, “Belteshazzar, let not the dream or the interpretation alarm you.” Belteshazzar answered and said, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you and its interpretation for your enemies! 20 The tree you saw, which grew and became strong, so that its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth, 21 whose leaves were beautiful and its fruit abundant, and in which was food for all, under which beasts of the field found shade, and in whose branches the birds of the heavens lived— 22 it is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. Your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the ends of the earth. 23 And because the king saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Chop down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let him be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven periods of time pass over him,' 24 this is the interpretation, O king: It is a decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king, 25 that you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and you shall be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will. 26 And as it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be confirmed for you from the time that you know that Heaven rules. 27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity.” Nebuchadnezzar's Humiliation28 All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 and the king answered and said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?” 31 While the words were still in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you, 32 and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. And you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.” 33 Immediately the word was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from among men and ate grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair grew as long as eagles' feathers, and his nails were like birds' claws. Nebuchadnezzar Restored34 At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; 35 all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?” 36 At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble. The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Da 4:1–37.
Daniel 4 tells the story of another dream of King Nebuchadnezzar. But behind the story of the dream is a story of pride. No one likes to be around a prideful person yet at the same time pride manifests itself in a variety of ways we all carry it. In this sermon we explore the essence of pride, the result of pride and how we all might be healed of our pride.
