Send us a textIn this episode of Causes or Cures, Dr. Eeks chats with Erin Williamson, a national expert on child trafficking and a leader at Love146, an organization dedicated to ending child trafficking and caring for its survivors. We dive deep into what child trafficking really is—both labor and sex trafficking—and explore its prevalence, evolving risk factors, and the role social media plays in recruitment. Erin breaks down how traffickers often target children, sometimes people they know, and how some do it through the internet. She shares eye-opening examples and challenges some of the most persistent myths we've seen in media, pop culture, and even online activism. We also explore:What makes a child more vulnerable to trafficking? Is child trafficking really increasing? Are "rescue missions" always the best path to freedom, or can they sometimes do harm? Why the idea that traffickers lurk in white vans is outdated and unhelpful. And why it's not just girls who are trafficked for sex.Erin also explains what Love146 actually does—why the name “Love146” matters—and offers practical, evidence-based tips for parents who want to protect their kids in a digital world. Finally, we talk public health and policy: What needs to change at the systems level to better prevent trafficking in the first place?Erin is the Chief Programs & Strategy Officer at Love146, where she leads efforts to prevent child trafficking and exploitation. With over 20 years of experience in social services and child protection, Erin has developed trauma-informed programs that have reached thousands of vulnerable youth across the U.S. She is also a parent, advocate, and expert in human trafficking prevention and survivor care. You can contact Dr. Eeks at bloomingwellness.com.Follow Eeks on Instagram here.Or Facebook here.Or X.On Youtube.Or TikTok.SUBSCRIBE to her monthly newsletter here! Jesus' famous last words dealt with being known by one's love. What does love have to do with the poor, service, and justice? A lot, it turns out. Love isn't just motivation to do work with and among the marginalized. Love is how we will be recognized as disciples, students of Jesus. On Sunday, we have the privilege of hearing someone who has walked this out in word and deed. Rob Morris, CEO and Co-Founder of Love146, will share his story, the story of his organization which works to eliminate child trafficking, and what love has got to do with it all. You don't want to miss this!- Series Description -Jesus cares deeply about the marginalized. During this Lenten series, we will unpack God's care for the poor, identification with this group, and the ways God moves on their behalf and calls us to do likewise. Oftentimes, we see people talk the talk with justice — saying the right things, using the in season buzzwords — but they are not caring for actual marginalized folks. Other times, we see people serving to the point of burnout and not modeling the world they are working so hard for. They might do good works but without much good news. Jesus is completely different. He has compassion, mercy, and deep love for folks who are marginalized. Jesus sees, stops, and cares, and He calls us to do the same. Will we? Over the Covid-19 pandemic, each our service and justice ministries got shut down — prison bible studies at Whalley and York, serving at Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK), and serving with Agape Church for the Homeless. As the pandemic shifted and more things opened up, we remained quite inward. We want that to change. We are praying that God's work amongst us would inspire a new ministry for and among the poor and marginalized. Join us!

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” -Psalm 147:3 tw: sexual assault and abuse When we experience trauma, there are complex layers of wounds that need healing in us. And as Kathleen Arnold, MSW shares in this episode of Take These Ashes, “that wound creates an opportunity for God.” Kathleen leads us in this conversation to discuss post-traumatic growth and the following: “Trauma is trauma.” Kathleen and Heather discuss how there’s no measuring stick for the hard things you’ve been through to compare it to the trauma of others. The definition of PTSD vs. C-PTSD and how trauma affects our bodies and brains How “negative” coping skills after experiencing trauma are actually part of our body’s strategy to try to survive Next steps towards growth and healing when someone becomes aware of their own trauma (and their own coping mechanisms to deal with that trauma) Seeing the “gold” from what we’ve been through—the Truth of who God is, how we see God and our stories, and how Jesus’s suffering relates to our own suffering here on earth How God uses His people to help us find safety and healing, and how to be a safe person for the people in your life   About this week's guest, Kathleen Arnold, MSW:  Kathleen Arnold is Program Director for Street Ransom, a Roanoke, Virginia-based ministry for juvenile survivors of sex trafficking. Kathleen has her bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in Global Justice Studies with a concentration in sex trafficking. Kathleen first began working with survivors of sex trafficking as the Program Supervisor at The Samaritan Women, a shelter for adult survivors of sex trafficking in Baltimore, Maryland. In 2015, Kathleen returned from Baltimore to the Roanoke Valley area and began working on the plans and programming for Street Ransom’s crisis shelter. In May of 2019 Kathleen graduated with her Master’s in Social Work to be better equipped for her position as Street Ransom’s Program Director.    Kathleen is a certified facilitator for a trafficking prevention curriculum called Not A #Number developed by Love146. She also has specific training on trauma, resilience, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and strengths based approach. ________ This episode is brought to you by RE-ROOTED: A 6-week growth journey for women (offered by Heather Lobe Johnson, Spring 2021). Human trafficking is not a new issue. It is one of the worst sins of humankind, and sadly one of the most prevalent, as well. It's not a fun topic to discuss, but we need to know the realties of life for many people. Even in the darkness of the subject matter, I hope you'll find some inspiration and hope in my conversation with Seth Johnson. We also discuss how we can make a difference in our world by simply being aware and willing to help. Here are some of the organizations Seth recommends looking into and considering donating to or working with: Internation Justice Mission (IJM) - https://www.ijm.org/ Wellspring Living - https://wellspringliving.org/ Polaris Project - https://polarisproject.org/ Love146 - https://love146.org/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jonathan-tony/support

Beauty can sometimes seem unattainable. Long beauty routines, hiding behind layers of make-up and hair extensions, and overflowing cabinets of pills and potions can consume your life. For Kalumi, the lack of essential nutrients readily available and too many inconvenient supplements were the culprits. So, in Kalumi's tiny NYC apartment, they formulated a powerful blend of nutritious ingredients conveniently packaged to deliver the ultimate beauty snack to have you feeling and looking your best. The mission is to provide effortless beauty anywhere and everywhere you go through delicious food, because beauty shouldn't be unattainable. Kalumi was launched by two models who were traveling the world. Your skin is made up of 80 percent collagen, meaning that in addition to being the most abundant protein in our bodies, it's also responsible for keeping your skin taut, hydrated, and elastic. Studies have shown that consuming collagen may promote your bodies' natural production of collagen. That's why they set out to find the best—and most effective—collagen on the market. They sourced wild, sustainably-caught marine collagen, extracted from fish skin and scales, and added antioxidant-rich ingredients like sweet potato and cocoa butter, to help promote optimal absorption and retention of collagen. This unique formulation works in tandem to support stronger hair, glowing skin, and longer nails—ensuring that you feel great, inside and out. Bellini's was born out of founder Sonia Bellini's desire to help others connect with their own unique beauty. For years, she'd been frustrated with the impossible beauty standards dictated by the media; Bellini's was her way of doing something about it. When Bellini's first opened its doors in 1993 as Bellini's European Day Spa, Portland had never seen anything like it. The spa offered innovative skin treatments and the very best skin care brands sourced from around the world. Sonia's approach was grounded in old world, European tradition; the results were nothing short of transformative. Through word of mouth, Bellini's quickly gained a large following of loyal clients – many who have been coming ever since. Two decades later, Sonia decided it was time to evolve. Realizing that fragrance was another way for people to express their individual beauty, she created an entirely new beauty experience that includes a parfumerie filled with hard-to-find scents from modern fragrance artists. And with that a name change to Bellini's Skin + Parfumerie. Besides Bellini's skin treatments and intoxicating fragrances, they also offer artisan candles, luxurious body products, and many other must-haves for both women and men. Queen of Versailles star Jackie Siegel & Author of "Oliver Uncollared" & "Victoria's Voice". She's on a mission to save lives and raise awareness about the Opioid Epidemic, after the tragic loss of her eldest daughter, Victoria. A drug overdose took the life of Victoria Siegel on June 6, 2015, in her parents' home near Orlando. She was 18. Victoria was one of 129 Americans to die from a drug overdose that day in 2015. That tragic rate is only rising. 200 Americans a day died from a drug overdose in 2017. We need to do something. The scope of the drug-abuse issue is inescapable and touches everyone in our country. An estimated 24.6 million Americans, age 12 or older, have used an illicit drug in the past month. 1. This epidemic is particularly detrimental to the lives of our children. Most people use drugs for the first time as teenagers. Every day, more than 3,600 kids under 18 try an illicit drug for the first time. 2. This statistic is terrifying. In 2014, more than 47,000 Americans died from an overdose, driven by a surge in prescription painkiller (opioid) and heroin abuse. Since 2000, the overdose death rate from opioids has increased a staggering 200 percent. 3. Another way to think about it? Almost 130 people die every single day from a drug overdose. It's a national crisis. Follow Jackie @therealqueenofversailles CODES: Don Francisco's Coffee has created a special sampling code where you can receive 20% off any purchase on donfranciscos.com.
