SCRIPTURE: Daniel 9 – Lesson #2SHOW NOTES: We invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth. There, you will find additional resources to enrich your Walk with God. Daniel was a man of prayer and set a godly example for us. He studied the historical scriptures and prayed to the Lord faithfully every day. He approaches the Lord based on God's loyal, covenant-keeping hesed love, which promised a covenant relationship with Israel. In chapter nine, Daniel confesses both his sin and the sins of Israel to the Lord. Israel had transgressed against the law of the Lord and refused to obey His commands. "While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea before the Lord my God for the holy hill of my God, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice." Daniel 9:20-21 “The man Gabriel” suggests that this mighty archangel appeared in a human-like form and spoke to Daniel clearly, as one man speaks to another. Gabriel serves as a messenger from God, delivering messages and explanations to Daniel. "He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding. At the beginning of your pleas for mercy, a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision." Daniel 9:22-23Gabriel conveys a message filled with hope and promise. He assures Daniel of God's great love and pledges to provide him with insight and understanding.SONG: "His Mercy Is More" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1GiZL60c80
SCRIPTURE: Daniel 6 SHOW NOTES: We invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, where you will discover additional resources to support your spiritual journey. Daniel was an amazing man who believed in the power of fervent prayer. The more we study his life, the more we are challenged by his commitment to the Lord and his faithful prayer life. He was taken captive to Babylon as a young teenager and served there for over 60 years. In this historical episode, he learns that the king has signed a decree stating that no one should pray to any god or man for thirty days, except to King Darius. "Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy." Daniel 6:3-4The text does not explain why the other officials wanted to remove Daniel. Perhaps his integrity made it difficult for them to engage in bribery, fraud, and political corruption. They knew Daniel was a God-fearing man who did not worship pagan idols, so they devised a plan to trap him."When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house, where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously." Daniel 6:10 Daniel's choice: obey his God or the government. It was very clear to Daniel that he would obey God. The new decree did not deter him! He would continue to pray three times each day for the city's welfare and give thanks before his God! Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!” Daniel 6:16SONG: "Before the Throne of God Above" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MUNywhsZPU
SCRIPTURE: Daniel 2 SHOW NOTES: We invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, to find more resources to support your spiritual journey.Daniel was a man of fervent prayer. He was taken captive to Babylon and served there for over 60 years. In this first historical episode, he learns that the king had a dream and wants to know both the dream and its interpretation. The wise men of the court cannot reveal this information to the king. The Chaldeans answered the king and said, “There is not a man on earth who can meet the king's demand, for no great and powerful king has asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or Chaldean. The thing that the king asks is difficult, and no one can show it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.” Daniel 2:10-11Daniel learns of the king's harsh order—kill all the wise men—and requests time to find a solution to the king's dilemma. He returns to his house, calls his friends—Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah—and asks them to join him in prayer. "He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon." Daniel 2:18 They asked for God's compassion to manifest through a revelation of the king's dream and its interpretation to Daniel. God revealed the secret mystery to Daniel. He believed this vision was an answer to their fervent prayers. “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king's matter.” Daniel 2:20-23SONG: Perfect Wisdom of Our God - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSnzYnOe6kI

What is the worst FEAR you have ever experienced? Fear so deep you could not cry or utter a sound? Fear so paralyzing you could not stimulate your mind to think or your mouth to speak or your feet to run. Knee knocking; hand wringing; mind boggling FEAR! Let’s return to a very large banquet hall in the remarkable city of Babylon about 2500 years ago. King Belshazzar has invited 1000 of the most prestigious, important, influential people in all Babylon and even leaders out in the rural towns and villages. As we rejoin the party this celebration of Babylonian greatness has gone on for several days but now, suddenly FEAR has captured the revelers! A large human hand, unattached to any arm or body, has appeared in the air and is writing words on the wall near the lampstand in the palace! Can you imagine that? I wonder how many neurological or psychological disorders you are familiar with? How about “PTSD” or “ADHD” or “Bi-Polar” or “GAD” or “Agoraphobia” or “panic disorder” or “Manic” or “Schizophrenia”, and the list goes on, doesn’t it? The world of therapists and medications is growing rapidly to treat an ever growing list of dysfunctions in humanity. I wonder what psychologists would say happened to King Nebuchadnezzar about 2600 years ago, as Daniel records it for us in Daniel 4? In recent weeks ‘Executive Orders’ and “Negotiated Proclamations” have been issued by some of the most powerful people in the world and the results have been very significant. Usually, such powerful documents are political or military or economic in nature but today let’s look at one of the most significant of all time. This document was auto biographical, issued by none other than King Nebuchadnezzar himself, sovereign over the Babylonian empire. The opening paragraph of this remarkable document is unlike any other I’ve ever read: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to the nations and peoples of every language who live in all the world. May you prosper greatly. It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me. How great are HIS signs, how mighty HIS wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; His dominion endures from generation to generation.” (Daniel 4:1-3)(Click here to see full text, images and links) Today’s Scripture: Daniel 4:1-9. Sometimes that phrase “Walking with Jesus” can take on grave consequences, can’t it? Oh, probably you’ve never found yourself in a life-or-death situation with death hanging in the balance depending on how you might answer a demand from a very angry person… but that’s exactly what 3 young Jewish men were facing in the throne room of the most powerful man in the world at that time, King Nebuchadnezzar. Come with me, back about 2600 years ago, to the great city of Babylon and let’s see what happened next. Daily Dose of Hope February 13, 2025 Day 5 of Week 46 Scripture: Daniel 10-12; John 20 It's Daily Dose of Hope time, everyone. Welcome back on this Thursday. The Daily Dose is a devotional and podcast designed to complement the New Hope Bible reading plan. Our Old Testament Scripture today is Daniel, chapters 10-12. In these chapters, Daniel has one final vision. We again are presented with the various kingdoms, the Medo-Persian empire, the Greeks, and then some lesser kings and finally something called the king of the North. The king of the North is particularly wicked and desecrates the Temple. The king eventually is destroyed himself. But what does this all mean? Scholars have certainly debated this. Some think the vision refers to the violent Syrian king around 160BC. Others think it refers to the coming of Jesus and the oppression in the Roman empire followed by the destruction of Jerusalem around 70AD. Still others think this is something that has not yet occurred. It's possible they are all correct. Afterall, Daniel is intended to offer hope that applies to all people. Think about it. Humans and their kings can become beastlike when they become drunk with power and don't acknowledge God as their king. But God will eventually confront the beast and destroy it, installing his Kingdom which is fair, just, and peaceful. Our New Testament Scripture is John 20. He is Risen!!! This is the Easter Sunday narrative. Today's Scripture is some of my favorite. Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed. She went to get Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved (most likely John, the author). They rushed to the tomb. Jesus' body was no longer there but the strips of cloth used to wrap his dead body were still present. John went inside. He saw and believed. Think about those words. He had been walking with Jesus for three years. John saw miracle after miracle, healing after healing, feeding after feeding. But none of it made sense. It now makes sense. What Jesus said would happen has happened. The cross did not have the final word. Jesus Christ defeated death and darkness. He overcame the world. God's power was demonstrated in such an awesome way; it's really hard to even wrap our brains around it. The transforming power of God was at work then and is still at work today! The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives within us as believers. There is power in that, friends! We are resurrection people. We believe that what was dead can be brought to life. We believe that we are new people in Jesus Christ. We believe that we are raised with Christ. We believe that there is so much more to this world than meets the eye. How have you seen resurrection power at work in your life? Let's close today with a hymn (feel free to sing!)... Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia! Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia! Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia. Blessings, Pastor Vicki

Scripture: Daniel 1:1-6, Daniel 1:8, Daniel 2:14, Daniel 3:16-18, Isaiah 43:2, Daniel 6:5, Daniel 8:10 Speaker: Scott Meyer Summary: This sermon focuses on living faithfully as Christians in a culture that feels foreign or opposed to God's values, using the story of Daniel and his friends in Babylon as an example. It emphasizes four key tips: maintain hope and trust in God's word, resist bitterness, remain respectful even in challenging circumstances, and develop a consistent prayer life. The sermon illustrates these points with stories of Daniel and his friends standing firm in their faith, refusing to bow to cultural pressures, and showing integrity, even when faced with dire consequences. The central reminder is that this world is not our true home; believers are ambassadors of God's kingdom in a foreign land. Ultimately, the message encourages reliance on God's presence during trials and trust in His guidance for living faithfully in any circumstance.
I have a question to begin our weekend: How do you measure SUCCESS? Much of the world is asking that about US Presidents these days as “the every four year” Presidential transition is about to take place, again. But let’s personalize the question… what about you and me; our marriages; our parenting; our careers; our legacies? Yesterday I left you with Daniel as he was beginning a three year, intensive, forced Babylonian leadership training program. Daniel was a prisoner of war, taken forcibly from his home in Jerusalem in 605bc and now being trained, by officers of King Nebuchadnezzar, for overseeing his fellow Jewish captives in Babylon. Message Focus: Strive for unwavering faithfulness to God. Scripture: Daniel 6:1-28 Pastor Matt Thornton, Speaker Archive Date: 02/04/24
We all want to improve this time of year. And the decisions we make now can help us make those improvements. One decision that may help us more than any other is the decision to be consistent. To be who we want to be, we need consistency” Extra Mile: Being consistent is always hard at first. This is why we rarely stick with our New Year's resolutions. We try to be better about exercising or reading but then we mess up and we feel like it's just another year of failing to reach our goals. But consistency doesn't require perfection. This week, decide one area of your life you want to be more consistent in and try to follow through. But if you fall short, give yourself the grace to try again the next day. Because God has already extended that grace to you! Scripture: Daniel 6:10-17 CEB Pastor: Rev. Sean McDonald

The Old Testament account of Daniel and the furnace is an account of resistance in the face of a powerful empire. The book of Daniel is a story about one of the Jewish exiles in Babylon, Daniel, and his three friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and their confrontations in Babylon with the emperor, the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar. In this sermon, we will see three things: 1) The pressure of pluralism; 2) The precision of true faith, and 3) The promises of suffering. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on August 21, 2011. Series: Theophany: Anticipations of Jesus in the Old Testament. Scripture: Daniel 3:14-29.
