We are two friends sharing our own experiences on growing up in a conservative, small town, faith and religion conflict, shame and guilt, relationship ups and downs, and so much more! We've come to a point in our lives where we feel comfortable reflecting on our stories and we are so glad to sharing them with you each week. We hope that you not only laugh with us and relate to us, but that you realize you’re not alone and you’re going to be okay! Because Girl, I Hear You!
A Nihilist: A person who believes that there is no meaning or purpose in existence Have we become nihilist? We don't really know. Does it matter? Probably not. This episode was recorded on a whim one evening, inspired by a conversation on the state of the world and the constant question that plagued our minds: What does it all mean? In all honestly, this was something I (as in Holly) had struggled with since the beginning of the pandemic. Is this what life is all about? Am I meant for more? Does any of it actually mean anything? Slowly I could feel myself slipping into a depressive state. I felt washed up and all out of potential. I wanted more. So, I tried tuning into moderen spirituality with full force. However, no matter how hard I tried--yoga, chakra alignment, life coaching, manifestation, crystals, shadow-work--nothing was giving me the results I was promised. Until one day I rejected all of it. Decided that I had put too much pressure on myself to be "somebody". But the thing is, I am already somebody. Who I am, is enough. And who YOU are is enough too. So long story short, I gave up on putting too much pressure on myself to have a specific identity. Tossed out this notion that I had to be a certain way to find meaning and happiness. The peace that I miraciously found is this: Life, in a lot of ways, is meaningless. But what is meaningful to YOU? Then that's what matters. It's your life. So are we nihilist? Maybe--or, maybe not. Does it matter? Not at all.

In this epsiode we talk relationships, dating and the single life with our good friend, Hannah! We ask the question: Is the grass always greener when it comes to love and dating? We each share dating and relationships from our own perspectives--Brittanee, who has been in the same committed relationship since sixteen. Holly, the serial dater who finally settled down. And Hannah, who is enjoying the single life with no intentions to get serious soon. Listen in as we talk about the good, and not-so-good of navigating romance. Oh, and we also share an awkward dating story or two!
In this episode we touch on Emotional Labor: the unpaid work that is usually left for one person in a household or relationship. This things include managing the feelings of others or coordinating household duties with little to no support from the other partner. These are things we both have observed from many traditional couples and can be a power struggle that pertains to all genders. Historically speaking, however, it is a frustration that women and mothers have expressed for many years. In this epsiode we ask why this imbalance occurs? Is it getting better? And how can we change these patterns for future generations?
This is part two of the 'Pick Me Girl' episode. In this episode, we discuss the version of the 'Pick Me Girl' called the "Chill Girl" and how she has come up in our lives. This concept was started on a viral POV video on TikTok talking about a "Chill Girl" who is friends with a girls boyfriend and is somehow just always--around. From what we have seen in the comment section of these videos, this scenerio resonates with so many other women. With that, it seemed fitting to expand on this universal female experience.
"I'm different, I'm not like other girls" This is a narrative that women have heard for a very long time. Be different. Stand out. Be above the rest. In this episode, we discuss the "Pick Me" girl-- a woman who tries to position herself to gain the attention and approval of men. We discuss the issues with this mentality and how it comes from a place internalized misogyny. We also critique the behaviors that go along with it, and get real with times we've witnessed or have participated in that same mindset. This criticism is not just from an individual level--but the mindset as a whole. That we were fed to believe that in order to be "desirable", we must find ways to distinguish ourselves from other women. The message here is not to put blame on people who feel this way, but to recognize that the issue lies deeper than other women. This way, we can collectively begin healing.
This week we were able to sit down and speak with Life Coach, Entrepreneur and Podcaster Ayisha Otero--better known as Ayisha Unique. Ayisha shared so much widsom with us on motivation and how important it is to show up in life with aligned energy. In this, we can uncover our truths in order to reach our full potentials. You're not going to want to miss this one!
Have you ever realized that there is a common mindset surrounding money and success? Listen to your peers, coworkers and family members and listen to what they have to say about money. Many of us are so unaware of how impactful our mindsets are about everything in life--and money is no exception. And oftentimes, many of us look at money in a negative light. In this episode, we share how we personally view money; from how it's built upon our own limiting beliefs, to our processes of deconstructing negativety surrounding it. Our message in this episode is to let out viewers know that it is normal to have certain negative mindsets about money because of how generations before us have perceived it. But we encourage everyone to begin breaking down that foundation to begin a new way of thought about how we view money. Research and study successful mindsets, practice gratitude for what you have, and remember that wherever you are in your journey of growth is exactly where you are supposed to be.
