What does dress shopping look like in the...wait for it..."new normal?" Can you still get your dress in time if the pandemic put you on hold? What about alterations? What is my timeline looking like for that now, too? These are just a few of the questions Erin (owner of Eva's and Evermore Bridal) and I went through. She explained why brides don't need to panic or rush in this time of uncertainty and that the dress-shopping experience is still memorable and fun...just with a few more safety precautions!
Due to the unfortunate circumstances of COVID-19, a lot of weddings have to be postponed or canceled. Couples are facing decisions and stress they never even thought was possible, and that's why we had to pull in a professional to give you a step-by-step guide on how to know if COVID-19 could affect your wedding and what to do. I talked with my friend, Mandy, who had to make this decision herself. She shares how her and her fiance made the call and how they're coping with the idea of "planning" all over again. In addition, I pulled in Wedding Planner, Heather Farr, from Heather Farr Events to guide us through the process of postponing a wedding and what is the best way to handle something like this.
I've never gotten married before, and I'm only planning on getting married once. That's the thought process most people have going into their big day. Since we have little to no experience with planning a wedding, word-of-mouth becomes a HUGE help. That's why I turned to my coworker, Dave, when it came to wedding DJs because *spoiler alert* - he is one. Dave talks about the process of researching, asking questions and booking your wedding DJ!
You'll be making more appointments than you ever thought you would during the wedding planning process. Three of those appointments being: wedding dress shopping, bridesmaid dress shopping and suits or tuxes. I sat down with Erin, Owner of Eva's Bridal Center and Evermore Bridal, to discuss how you can be fully prepared for all of these important events!
The dress is probably one of the most (if not THE most) thought about thing regarding your wedding. We're almost "trained" to dream about that piece of the puzzle with shows like, "Say Yes to the Dress." Sometimes finding your dress won't be one of those teary-eyed moments or you'll go with something completely different than you originally thought you would. In my conversation with Erin, Owner of Eva's and Evermore Bridal, she discusses the importance of openness with your consultant, what you can do to make sure your wedding dress experience is memorable and so much more!
Do they have a "Flowers for Dummies" book?! When it came to the start of wedding planning, I had no idea what kind of flowers I wanted and what kind of budget I was working with. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to find a florist who could talk me through EVERY little detail and really help me gauge what I wanted. So, I figured - she might be of some use to you, too!! Sarah Geboy, Owner of Avant Garden Florist in Delafield, WI, and I talked about endless opportunities with wedding floral - is it better/cheaper to go with fake flowers? Should I consider an online service? Is Pinterest really a good place for inspiration? We cover all that and more!!
Kelly Anne is a staff writer at Forbes specializing in personal finance and recently wrote an article regarding wedding loans and whether or not they might be useful to some couples. When you start planning a wedding, you might feel like you have a good handle on things, but as Kelly Anne mentions, a lot of little details pop up and add to your budget. We got into the nitty gritty if a loan is worth diving into for your wedding or if you should take a step back and reassess your overall spending.
The day of your wedding can be such a whirlwind, and you hardly ever know what's going on. That's why I wanted to snag Jessi just a few short weeks after she's gotten married, so she can remember all of the smallest things she was freaking out about on her wedding day. Hopefully, you can get some useful information and tips on how to react when drama arises or things just don't go as planned!
You scroll through Pinterest; you watch "Say Yes to the Dress;" you sketch your own ideas - your dress is one of the most thought-about parts of your wedding. Maybe you're totally indecisive or feel a little too much pressure to find "THEE" dress, well, this podcast's for you. I sat down with Shannon Marquardt of Amelishan Bridal to squeeze out as much advice on the wedding dress shopping process as I possibly could!
My fiance and I are off to Florida for a week, and the day we get back...we have our engagement photos. It's crazy how fast time is flying! But, because of that and because I'm so indecisive, I decided it was time we talk about wardrobes...for photo shoots. You know, you have nothing to wear, but you want to match him and look cute. I found a few articles that might just help, so let's do this!
You've used Pinterest to plan your wedding probably before you even met your man, and now that your engaged, you go back to your wedding board and see nothing but clutter. Let's face it, 12 year-old you has different taste than present you, but that's ok! Lindsey Kaney from Wedding Planner & Guide is a professional when it comes to planning events from Pinterest, and she's going to teach us everything she knows about the tool, so your mood board can become a reality.
One of my favorite weddings I've ever been to was put on by two people that I barely knew when attending. The reason why it was so fun? They looked like they were having a blast DESPITE the constant rainfall. Kris and Krysta got married at Krysta's Grandma's home in Michigan. It was casual, yet really well-done. The thing that stuck out to me the most was that it was very true to them: even up to the point where half of their photos show the groom having a tree branch sticking out of his pocket (a few kids gave it to him as a gift in passing). I can't wait for you to hear their story and hopefully take away some cute ideas for your own DIY wedding!
Well, it happened. Shannen got engaged! She brought her fiance in to spill the details on how he proposed and grill him with questions regarding engagements, wedding-planning and a whole lot more. Think your guy is into the whole wedding-planning process?
It's not secret that photography is one of my favorite things to research as far as weddings go. But, I'll admit: it's overwhelming because you want the entire day to be captured perfectly. So, between details, timelines and a plethora of packages to choose from, you can go crazy just by researching photographers! Anna from Anna Page Photography addresses ALL the things, so you don't have to continue to worry!
One of the most daunting tasks as a bridesmaid or Maid of Honor is planning the perfect bachelorette party. Not to say that this podcast isn't for the bride, too, because I think you'll get some stellar ideas from my girl, Sam, who has been planning these things left and right for the past few years. Sam has done Pinterest-Worthy parties locally, regionally and even destination bachelorette parties in places like the DR.
Whether your plus size or petite, not all dresses will fit the same. We can spend hours looking on Pinterest for the perfect gown, but it still might not be right for you. I got to chat with Hannah - who is a proud plus size bride - about her experience dress shopping. She offered tips and tricks on how to find the best look for your body type and how to keep your confidence up when selections are small...or even bland!
You plan for months - even years - for your big day to be PERFECT. I hate to break it to you, but the chances are that everything's not going to go as planned, and that's totally ok! If there's anyone who knows that, it's Jimmie. Between planning three weddings, standing up in a wedding he didn't necessarily agree with and embarrassing himself on the dance floor - he shares his top tips with you on how to get through the possibility *ahem - probability* of things going wrong.
We've all gotten those wedding invitations with confusing dress codes listed on them. Immediately, you reach for your phone and ask your friend what they plan on wearing because at least someone else would be in your court, right? Fear not - because I have two fashionista's on this episode that walk us through the definitions of wedding attire, according to an article from Bellwether Events.
"Will you be my bridesmaid?" One of the best and most frightening questions you'll be asked because 1) ONE OF YOUR BEST FRIENDS IS GETTING MARRIED! 2) There's about to be a lot of work involved in your life! Hannah has been in quite a few weddings, so Shannen sat down with her to discuss the roles of being a bridesmaid and what to expect when you officially accept the task.
You have all the feels when you think about your significant other, so the question is: how do you put in on paper for your vows? Luckily for us, there are professional writers for that sort of thing...including vows and speeches (Maid of Honor, Officiants, Father of the Bride, etc...). Angie from Vow Muse walks us through the process of creating memorable vows and speeches for your big day!
You know that Victoria's Secret bombshell hair style that you want for your wedding? Well, you might need to start thinking about it earlier than you anticipated! I trust all-things hair to my stylist, Denise from Hair Fiddlers, because I've been going to her for years, and she tells it like it is! She's one of those stylists that believes anything is possible, but you have to put in the time and effort to take care of your locks to get it there. She talks when to start looking for stylists, what kind of hair trends are on the horizon for weddings and how to handle Wisconsin weather with your hair (because we all know that's actually a concern).
As it turns out - there IS something more difficult than choosing your MySpace Top Ten: trimming down your wedding guest list! Brett and Michaela handled their wedding like pros when they decided they only wanted to invite their immediate family. Those awkward conversations that you have with friends who aren't invited and the possible judgement that comes along with it - don't worry. We address it ALL.
Venue, food, bar, DJ, flowers, party favors - the list goes on, and it DOESN'T get cheaper! Unfortunately, one of the hardest parts of wedding planning (and the thing that ruins our dreams on a daily basis) needs to be addressed: budgeting. I promised myself I wouldn't make this a miserable episode because it's an important discussion, so I brought the humor and the stories with Shanna (who you might know as Quinn from FM106.1) to discuss how she managed to have an unforgettable wedding without being "extra" on the money side of things.
Heck yeah, you can post that ring on Instagram, scream at the top of your lungs like Monica Geller and start searching Pinterest for those fairytale ideas! But, when it comes to actually PLANNING the wedding, where do you start and what does the timeline look like? I had to call an industry professional for the first "official" episode because who would know more on this topic than someone who plans weddings for a living? Get your questions answered with Krista Dentice, the Owner and Lead Planner of Weddings With a Twist.
