We watch and discuss a few movies a week, starting with movies from 1976 and we're working our way to the present. Each week, a different year.
This week it's 2010. Hold on to your eardrums! One of us is pretty loud and I suck at editing audio. Enjoy!
Three Episodes in two days! What is going on? It's 2009 this week. Geoff and Jess watched Watchmen. I failed on that one. We all watched Drag Me To Hell and The Hurt Locker. Apparently I'm the only one on Earth that thinks Drag Me To Hell sucks. Back on brand.
Two Episodes in one night! What the hell! We're back Baby! Probably not true. I'll probably go ghost again for another 4 months. Anyway, It's 2008 this time and we're talkin' Slumdog Millionaire, Cloverfield and Tropic Thunder.
Sorry about the crazy long delay between episodes. I just didn't feel like editing and then so much time went by. Blah, Blah, Blah. Enough time went by that I managed to lose the 2006 episode. So here is 2007 in which we discuss Juno, There Will Be Blood and 30 Days of Night. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy.
It's a little after Halloween but who doesn't want more horror. Avoid the Christmas creep and listen to this episode. We picked three horror/scary movies to watch. One was picked by return Guest, Suzy. Give it a listen. There will be spoilers.
2005 this week. There may be spoilers as we talk about Constantine, Red Eye and Walk the Line. I introduce this one as episode 35. disregard that. I can't keep track. Probably get the number wrong from here on out.
Coming in hot with another ep we recorded forever ago. Geoff is munching on food in the beginning. If that sort of thing bothers your then tough shit. We're talking 2004 with Sideways, Closer and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I quit on Sideways, Jess Hated Life Aquatic, and Closer was a sleeper hit. Enjoy. Oh and by the way. Spoiler alert!
We recorded this back in June i think. It's 2003 movies. There was a little confusion as to what we were supposed to watch. Give 'er a listen and tell us whatcha think.
We're back again. Once again we were never really gone. I have just been too lazy to edit the episodes we have recorded. We've got like 9 episodes recorded. I'm going to try and bang them out faster than one a week. Unfortunately, this one doesn't exist. Ep 33 is lost on a thumb drive in my office somewhere. Ep 34 will be up in mere minutes. Some day I will find 33 and drop it in the feed. Thanks for listening.
We're Back!!!! We were never really gone. I have just been to lazy to edit an episode. The sun came out and enjoying the Florida sun seemed like more fun than editing audio. Anyway, Welcome back. We pick up right where we left off. 2001 with Memento, Amelie and Moulin Rouge. Enjoy.
Three good movies this week. Thanks for listening!
Part 2 of episode 30. We cover our Oscar picks and reveal the winner. Then we finally get to picking the movies to watch for the year 2000.
Part one of Episode 30. You'll hear why at the end. I finally picked a good one and Cider House Rules is boring! Enjoy. Part 2 coming soon.
It's a BONUS episode! It's Oscar night! We discuss a few of the Best Picture nominees and make our picks for most of the categories. Winner gets to pick the next three movies. Enjoy!
The episode where Geoff eats pretzels and can't stop touching the mic. Enjoy!
In honor of Groundhog day, Here's a bonus episode. I talk with Nigel and Cheyenne about the Bill Murray classic, Groundhog Day. Enjoy. I didn't have them in the studio with me so there are some minor audio issues.
One movie that was not as good as I remembered One movie that was way worse than I remembered One movie that was better than expected. It's 1997 this week on John Hates Movies. Thanks for listening.
It's 1996 this week. Geoff and Jess hate on my awesome pick once again. Give it a listen and let us know if you agree with me or those other two about the movie Freeway.
It's 1995. It's the year Geoff and I graduated from high school. So we had to watch a high school movie. We ended up with 4 this week. Well, between the three of us we watched 4 movies. Give it a listen. Good times. Next week it's 1996 and I may have chosen a loser.
It's 1994 this week. We tackle some classics. We start with my choice, The Little Rascals. Geoff and Jess hate on it unmercifully. Then Natural Born Killers and Finally, we talk way too long about Pulp Fiction. So long we realize we just have to stop and move on. It's just that good. We should have dedicated the entire episode to just Pulp Fiction. Thanks for listening.
WE'RE BACK! We weren't really gone. I was just too lazy to edit. It's 1993 this week and Geoff and Jess have the wrong opinion of Menace II Society. Falling Down and Schindler's list are also discussed. Welcome back. Enjoy!
It's 1992 already and we saw some things this week. Powerhouse cameo by Alec Baldwin, amazing debut of Jaye Davidson, and possibly Keanu Reeves' worst performance ever. I maybe didn't hate anything this week but I certainly didn't love one of these movies. Thanks for listening.
Geoff is back. We're talking 1991 with Defending Your Life, Cape Fear, and The Silence of the Lambs. Spoiler alert! Defending Your Life Sucks! Enjoy.
Covering 1990 this week. Just 2 movies and just 2 hosts. Geoff couldn't make it for this one. Should be back to normal next week. We're talking Flatliner's and Postcards from the Edge.
We're back to our regular format. Actually recorded this episode before Horror Month. Enjoy.
In this final episode of Horror month, we watched Halloween (1978), Halloween (2007), and Halloween (2018). It was very Halloweeny.
Horror month continues. This week we watched and discussed The 2018 Nick Cage gem, Mandy as well as Identity and The Fly. Some good stuff here. Enjoy.
In this third installment of Horror Month, we discuss Hereditary, Battle Royale, and Green Room. I hope you enjoy it.
Baby Jelly!!! This week's Horror Month guest is my old buddy Nigel. He's a horror movie aficionado and his choice was The Witch. We also watched The Eyes of My Mother and Get Out. Good stuff on this one. We had Nigel joining us over the internet. The audio drops in and out a little bit here and there but it's all good. Thanks for listening.
We're switching it up for October. Getting away from our yearly format and just going straight horror. We will have a guest each week. That guest will chose one of the movies. This week's guest is Suzy and she chose the Kevin Smith absurdist horror, Tusk. Geoff chose The Descent, and I went with The Babadook. As always, there are spoilers galore. Give it a listen if you have seen these movies or if you are unconcened with finding out the gory details of how Justin Long is turned into a walrus by a seditious Canadian.
It's 1988 this week and according to John, Who framed Roger Rabbit sucks. Fortunately, Mississippi Burning was incredible and A fish Called Wanda was Hilarious. Thanks for listening. Next week we are shifting gears and will start with Halloween episodes for all of October. 5 Weeks of horror movies. I'll release a quick preview thingy to let you know which horror movies we are watching. We'll have a guest on each October episode. One of the movies we watch will be the guest's choice. Stay tuned.
This week it's 1987 and we discuss Wall Street, The Untouchable, and Adventures in Babysitting. Thanks for listening.
We watched a couple of stinkers this week. As always there are plenty of spoilers. Thanks for listening.
We're back after a long break. Takes a bit to shake off the rust. John Definitely hates one of these movies. The audio is a little rough but stick with it. John confesses to a horrible act as a ten year old based on one of the movies chosen for next week. Fight through the audio issues. It's worth it for the confessional.
This week I had to bring in some pinch hitting co-hosts (Darius and Lorelei). Eventually, The usual crew recorded this episode too, but I effed up the recording. So enjoy this slight departure. The movies we are watching for Episode 11 are not the ones Darius and Lorelei chose. Sorry guys. Geoff, Jessica, and I settled on Out of Africa, Agnes of God, and Spies Like Us.
This week it's 1983 and we discuss The Big Chill and Terms of Endearment. We also talk a little at the end about the joy that is Live PD. Stick around and give it a listen.
We All hated Tootsie! If you like this movie, please tell us why. Sophie's Choice was another amazing Meryl Streep Tour De Force. Good times. Audio getting better (I think). Stick with us. Follow us on Instagram. Email us at jhmpodcast@gmail.com
John Didn't hate anything this week. We're talking 1981 with An American Werewolf in London and the Bill Murray classic, Stripes. I think we even managed to not talk about bush this time. That can't be right. No promises. There's probably some bush talk. Thanks for listening. Follow us in instagram @jhmpodcast. Let us know what you think.
Holy Shit! Ordinary People was so good. Blues Brothers kinda sucked. Give it a listen and let us know what you think.
On this episode we keep the Streep streak alive with another brilliant performance by Meryl. We follow that up with a lively discussion about Apocalypse Now. I thought I didn't like it but Geoff and Jess convince me otherwise. We close out with a debate as to whether I should climb into my parent's attic to retrieve embarrassing diaries from my youth. Please leave a comment. Subscribe to the show, and tell a friend. Thanks.
It's 1978 and we're talking The Deer Hunter and how great Meryl Streep is. The Streep streak starts now.
We've added a third host and we're talking 1977. Movies discussed include: Woody Allen's Annie Hall and The Deep. We also find out what 1978 has in store for us. Thanks for listening.
First movie of the format and I hated it. Can't get Mullins to defend it because he knows it sucks. He refuses to yeild. The audio might actually be worse than week one. Especially my forcing in the name of the podcast over one of the previous names. Seriously. Just listen. It's fun and it's free. No ads. Just pure unadulterated, unqualified, and un-asked-for opinions.
On this first episode Geoff and John Figure out exactly what this podcast is going to be. They also talk about whether # Billboards sucks or not. Other movie talk and nonsense included. Get in on the ground floor. Be able to tell your friends you were into John Hates Movies back when it sucked.
Quick intro to let you know what this podcast is all about. There's a lot of podcasts out there. We hope you like this one. If you do, tell your friends.
