Today's guest Eduardo Sanchez goes back to the late 90's and shares his experience on what it was like to be in the center of The Blair Witch Project hurricane. What it was like being on the cover of Time Magazine and how did it feel to be the toast of Hollywood…for a period of time.We also discuss the aftermath, how his career grew post Blair Witch and crazy stories of Hollyweird.Who hasn't heard of the now legendary indie film rags to riches tale of The Blair Witch Project? Every film student from Los Angeles to Mumbai heard the story of how two young film students spent $27,000 (mostly from friends, family and credit cards) to make a little indie horror film that ended up grossing $250 million worldwide.Directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick shot The Blair Witch Project in a new way which would later be called “found footage.” Without The Blair Witch Project, there is no Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield, The Last Exorcism. The marketing of The Blair Witch Project was equally as important as the film itself. Below you can watch the FAKE documentary that helped fuel the belief that the Blair Witch Curse was real and that the kids in the movie were dead.Just BRILLIANT marketing!Enjoy my conversation with Eduardo Sanchez.

Halloween is in full swing here on I Know That Face and this week, we are doing something a little different. Instead of talking about the career of a character actor, we're talking about an entire genre, well sub-genre, of horror movies. Beginning with The Blair Witch Project, Stephen and Andrew dive into found footage. Listen in for debates about more popular fare like Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity to unanimous agreement on Asian horrors like Noroi: The Curse, The Medium and Incantation. According to Melle, it's officially spooky season so what better way to ring it in than by covering one of the creepiest found footage films in the genre, Paranormal Activity (2007)? Aside from taking a peek at what made this film so noteworthy and effective, we also wonder about Micah and Katie's economic situational awareness, their frightfully toxic relationship dynamic, how writer and director Oren Peli "trained" us in reference to the film's scares and of course the film's genius marketing. So yeah, what does happen when you sleep? But better question is what happens to when you listen to a new episode of ScaryCrit? Good things, we hope! Episode 21 - Review: Prey (2022 film) This one breaks the curse of bad movies debuting in the month of August. The spirit of “Predator” Director John McTiernan is alive and well in the 2022 installment of this franchise, “Prey”. This latest entry may be the best in the franchise. Amber Midthunder commands the screen as our hero, Naru, in this very efficient action movie. “10 Cloverfield Lane” fans will be happy to know that Director Dan Trachtenberg hasn't lost his creative touch with his follow up movie to the Cloverfield sequel. Sarah Schachner is a Composer to look out for. She has led one of the best scores that I have enjoyed so far for 2022. Threading the needle of respecting an original concept while having a new movie be memorable and stand out on its own is no easy task. “Prey” makes it look easy. Be sure to not miss this one and check it out now on Hulu. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sohrabsmovieq/message
In this fun, fascinating episode your Film Freaks are back from the wilds of Canada and happy to bring you an in-depth look at the big giant monster movie genre. Abrams, Jason Sudekis, and dozens more. Come along as we stomp through cities, take you by the hand, and save your life from being crushed by a large rubbery foot. Hello, Kaiju Lovers! “Ameri-kaiju” jumps ahead 50 years, but as you'll hear, the (in)famous Cloverfield has a lot in common with the classic 1950s films we've been covering. Nate's longtime friend Nick Hayden drops by to discuss this movie because he's loved it ever since he first experienced it in a theater—and it is an experience. Too much of one for some people, in fact! While it's popular to hate on Cloverfield in the kaiju fandom, it popularized the “found footage” genre and launched J.J. Abrams' studio, Bad Robot Productions. To the shock of some of Nate's friends, he says this is the closest the United States has come to producing a Godzilla (1954). How and why? The Toku Topic helps explain that: the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Before this, Nate meets with Dr. Nick Tatopoulos on the Heat Seeker to discuss recent events. Nate learns Cameron Winter is covering his tracks, so Nate tells Nick he's thinking of taking Mr. Gold's promotion so he can spy on Winter. Afterward, Nate goes to Mr. Gold's office to discuss the offer—only to be interrogated about Jessica's shenanigans with the Ymir's escape on Harryhausen's birthday. Check out Nick's website (http://worksofnick.com/) and his podcast, Derailed Trains of Thought (http://derailedtrainsofthought.com/). The prologue and epilogue, “Claws and Cash,” was written by Nathan Marchand. Guest stars: R. Villers as Nick Tatopoulos Michael Hamilton as Mr. Gold Lemonjolly as Ms. Kawaii Additional music: “The Edge Calls Me” by MkVaff “Pacific Rim” by Niall Stenson “Chant My Name!” by Masaaki Endo “This Cowboy's Hat” (instrumental) by Chris LeDoux “When Your Mom Mistakes Captain Falcon for Captain America Again” by Vijay van der Weijden Sound effects sourced from Freesound.org, including those by InspectorJ. On the 251st episode of Piecing It Together, The Lady-Wan returns to the podcast to talk about Jordan Peele's 3rd film, Nope. This unique take on the UFO subgenre of horror is an old school blast and one of my favorite movies of the year. Puzzle pieces include Fire In The Sky, Cloverfield, Back To The Future 2 and a whole bunch of Steven Speilberg.
