I observe how much I hate the Observatory. I had no business using one of the cameras from The Revenant to shoot my dick jokes with, but I did anyway. After 27 years of deliberating and excuse making, I finally got my stupid Star Wars tattoo fixed. I can't think of a single filmmaker in history who has ruined their legacy or fucked up their own movies more than asshole piece of shit George Lucas. I'm afraid of Vistaviews. I'm either having a weird reaction to my sleep medication, or I'm several days into the Drag Me To Hell curse/demonically possessed. Vinnie's schmancy work Christmas party at the Sofi Stadium. I got to meet my favorite Instagram husky! Listen to grandma Luke's account of it! Day Of The Fight, and the inimitable Jack Huston.
It's the very 100 and 30th episode of Forsaken Cinema Podcast!!! Happy Holidays, freaks!!! We kick off December's theme, “Holiday Hell”, with Sam Raimi's 2009 film “Drag Me to Hell”. We have a very interesting conversation in which we start kind of negative, but through talking about it for over an hour, came to the conclusion that we actually kind of love it? I know. We were as confused as you're going to be. Anyways, this is a loooooong one but honestly, some of our finest work. And by work, I mean rants, sidetractions, and dick jokes. Rivka and Frank return for another "duet" episode, diving into Sam Raimi's 2009 horror-comedy Drag Me to Hell. This time, they explore whether the film serves as a horror story about class betrayal or a metaphor for eating disorders under capitalism. They also discuss the film's problematic racial tropes and consider the director's political intentions. For next week's movie, we'll be watching another 2012 pic, the crime drama Killing Them Softly.
We look at the effect of making this movie's protagonist unlikable, the downside of making it generic, and how it explores apathy through its body horror before doing takeaways from this year's horror trilogy. Drag Me to Hell is a 2009 American supernatural horror film directed and co-written by Sam Raimi with Ivan Raimi, starring Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao, David Paymer, and Adriana Barraza. The story focuses on a loan officer, who, because she has to prove to her boss that she can make the "hard decisions" at work, chooses not to extend an elderly woman's mortgage. The old woman places a retaliatory curse on her that, after three days of escalating torment, will plunge her into the depths of Hell to burn for eternity.

The October MOTM is a horror film, in recognition of Halloween and this year we have a truly frightening film, but still with a lot of humor. It comes from director Sam Rami, so that mixture will be no surprise to the deadites out there, but this film does not feature Bruce Campbell. Instead, we get Alison Lohman, being physically and mentally abused as a curse threatens to take her to hell via a violent lamia. Matthew Simpson of the Awesome Friday Podcast was the movie's champion, and he takes over the hosting duties. Damien Riley of "But I Digress" spends a lot of time admiring Miss Lohman in the film, and we talk about out favorite horror film directors as well. Plenty of spoilers, but with a film titled "Drag Me to Hell" you have a pretty good idea of what is coming.

In 1969 Pasadena, a Hispanic couple seek help from young medium Shaun San Dena, saying their son Juan is ill and hears evil voices after stealing a silver necklace from a Gypsy's wagon, despite his attempts to return it. San Dena prepares a séance, but an unseen force attacks them and fatally drags Juan to Hell, and he is never seen again after this. San Dena vows to fight the demon again one day. In present-day Los Angeles, bank loan officer Christine Brown vies for a promotion to assistant branch manager with her co-worker, Stu Rubin. Her boss, Jim Jacks, advises her to demonstrate tough decision-making. Sylvia Ganush, an elderly and disheveled European Roma woman, asks for a third extension on her mortgage. However, Christine denies her request. After this, Ganush cries and begs not to have her house repossessed. Security guards arrive and she leaves, angrily accusing Christine of shaming her. In the parking lot, Ganush ambushes and violently attacks Christine. After a long struggle, Ganush rips a button from Christine's coat and curses it. Later, Christine and her boyfriend Clay Dalton visit fortune teller Rham Jas, who tells Christine a dark spirit is haunting her. At home, the entity begins to violently attack Christine. At work, she hallucinates about Ganush and bleeds profusely from her nose while spewing blood on Jacks. As Christine leaves, Stu steals a file that is on her desk. Christine decides to go beg Ganush for forgiveness, but she discovers that she has recently died. After causing a scene at her funeral, Ganush's granddaughter warns her that she deserves everything that she is about to get. Christine returns to Jas, who explains that as long as she owns the cursed button, a powerful demon known as the Lamia will torment her for three days before literally dragging her to Hell. However, he suggests that a sacrifice may appease it. Christine reluctantly decides to sacrifice her kitten before meeting Clay's classist parents at their house for dinner, during which grotesque hallucinations torment her again, such as seeing the Gypsy's eye in her slice of harvest cake. Christine returns to Jas, who introduces her to San Dena for a fee of $10,000. They prepare a séance to trap Lamia in a goat and kill the goat to destroy it. However, the Lamia possesses her and then her assistant, who vomits up the corpse of Christine's cat, saying it wants her soul. San Dena manages to successfully banish the Lamia from the séance, but dies afterwards. With no other options Jas seals the button in an envelope and tells Christine that she can only remove the curse by giving the button to someone else. She attempts to give the envelope at a diner: to a tearful Stu (whom she tries to blackmail into accepting it) and to an ailing, married elderly woman; bothered by her conscience, she doesn't do either. When Jas tells her she can give the curse to the dead she digs up Ganush's grave and shoves the envelope into her mouth to give her the curse. Christine returns home and prepares to meet Clay at Los Angeles Union Station for a weekend trip. Jacks notifies her of the promotion after Stu confessed to stealing her file and was fired. At the station, Clay, who is hoping to propose to Christine, hands her the envelope with her missing button he found in his car, unaware of its significance. She realizes that she accidentally gave the wrong envelope to Ganush, which means the curse was never lifted. Horrified, Christine backs away and falls onto the tracks, where demonic hands come out and drag her down. A train speeds through, and Clay helplessly looks on as Christine is fatally dragged down to Hell.

Welcome to the September edition of Pat & Mike's Movie Club! This month, we're discussing Drag Me To Hell, directed by Sam Raimi and released in 2009. The idea that "time is a flat circle" is a pretty wild concept from the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. He basically thought that everything in the universe happens over and over again in an infinite loop. So, every moment you're experiencing right now, you'll live again and again forever. It's like instead of time being a straight line from the past to the future, it's more like a loop where everything keeps repeating. Imagine time not as something moving forward, but more like a circle. Every moment is both something that's happened before and something that will happen again. This can mess with your head a bit because it suggests that we don't really have free will. If everything is destined to repeat, are we really making choices, or are we just playing out the same scenes over and over? --- TIME STAMPS: 0:00 - Time is a Flat Circle? 3:18 - Theme Music 4:37 - You Guys Really F*cking Hate Dinosaur Episodes, Turns Out 5:54 - The Pendulum Theory / 25, 40 & 80 Year Cycles 8:22 - The Girl By The Bed 12:36 - Cat Eye Glasses and a Short Bob 14:41 - Christian Has a Weird Theory 17:41 - Glimpses of the Past / Thin Places 18:56 - The Sentient Bubble 21:29 - Can Babies Choose Their Parents Before Birth? 25:56 - Can Science Ever Truly Prove Ghosts? 28:08 - Ghosts in a Bathroom 36:22 - Ah yes, the Meditation Tangent, Right on Time 38:26 - These Things = iPhones 39:00 - A Quite Curious Ghost 39:50 - Justin Long & Drag Me To Hell are 2 Great Things 42:02 - He Sat In My Spot 43:24 - Yet Another Theory For The Scott's Vegas Creeper 46:16 - Are Humans Supposed to Have All the Answers? 47:22 - Bill Gates is the Worst 48:24 - Ghost in the Mirror 51:01 - The Place Between Heaven & Hell 53:26 - Bad Time For a Diddy Reference 53:45 - Pregnant Woman Visited By Unborn Daughter 57:02 - Christian Has a Question For YOU 59:22 - Closing Time -------- If you want to become a producer, visit this link: http://bit.ly/3WZ3xTg Episode Producer: Eric Long -------- Armed with nothing more than a non-sensical soundboard, a fascination for all things unexplained, and a heaping dose of dry humor; TFD is a weekly paranormal comedy podcast featuring real ghost stories, Cryptid lore discussions, and true paranormal experiences catering to the week's theme. This week, we discuss one of Sam Raimi's most underrated horror films, 2009's DRAG ME TO HELL, a film about a good person making a bad choice and paying for it in the worst way. It might also be about eating disorders or could simply be a way for Raimi to blow off steam following nearly a decade of Spider-Man. In October 1981, a little film made by a crew from Michigan at a cabin in Tennessee on a shoestring(ish) budget changed horror cinema forever by introducing the world to Bruce Campbell's chin and a fancy new kind of DEAD EVIL called the Deadites. We discuss Sam Raimi's First Film, The Evil Dead, and delve into all the storied gore that springboarded one of Hollywood's great and dynamic directors! We also talk about teeth, bugs, and Garf in the MouthGarf Report. And we play a rousing game of I See What You Did There! [Be warned, this episode discusses violence and the film's one very lamentable scene of sexual assault.]Please give us a 5 star rating on Apple Podcasts! Are you currently possessed? Why? Why not?
