Battle Royale Before we started recording, we talked about whether or not Battle Royale (2000) was an action or horror movie and we landed on action movie with extremely horrific tones. Pete's main talking point was that unlike a big explodie action movie where grunts are mowed down by the dozens, Battle Royale gives every murdered victim a name and number so that regardless how you feel about that particular character, you still get to know them. Not only are children killing each other but you also kinda know who they are which is where the horror come into place. The subject of a forced deathmatch has been covered by films like "Lord of the Flies," "The Running Man," "The Hunger Games" and even video games like "PUBG" and "Fortnight" but what Battle Royale does is lean heavily on the brutality and hopelessness of the situation.
