Ochai Agbaji started his final season in Lawrence with a terrific game against Michigan State in Maidson Square Garden. This is the audio version of the Pay Heed live stream on YouTube that took place about ten minutes after the game.

Kansas looked pretty good in its exhibition game against Emporia State. Next week, we will learn just how good they are when they battle Michigan State in the Champions Classic. In this episode of Pay Heed, I talked about both games and some of the key issues early in the season.

Kansas started the season pretty well even if this was an exhibition game against a DII school. We learned a little about the team. We learned that Bill Self and Remy Martin could butt heads some this season as Self tries to get Martin to play differently on the Jayhawks than he did at Arizona State. In this episode, I discussed the game and many of the Kansas players' performances.

This week I talked about the Chiefs' win over the New York Giants. I discussed the good and bad of the game. I touched on the two trades the Chiefs made Tuesday before the trading deadline. I went through some of the latest news in the NFL. I looked at the first release of the College Football Playoff rankings. Kansas starts its season Wednesday night, so of course, I talked about the Jayhawks. I also briefly touched on Missouri at Georgia and Kansas State at Kansas this weekend as well as the World Series. Wow! That was a lot, but it was a lot of fun.

The third episode of Pay Heed focused on the schedule this season with an emphasis on the non-conference part of it. We will talk about the conference season as we get closer to January.

This week I discussed Kansas' impressive showing against Oklahoma and Kansas State's win over Texas Tech.  I talked about all three local schools' games this weekend. We didn't have many interesting games last weekend, but we are loaded with them this weekend. I also discussed a recent interview of Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby.

We had to do it. We talked through the issues with the Chiefs and tried to figure out where they go from here. I also talked about the great performance by Kansas football against Oklahoma last weekend and Kansas State's impressive comeback after falling down early to Texas Tech. I touched on Sporting's win over Seattle. I broke down some of the comments Bob Bowlsby made in an interview a few days ago. And the One More Thing this week was about Bubba Starling.

This week I discussed Bill Self's comments this week at Big 12 media days. I also looked at how the players are expected to be used this season.

I looked back at the Chiefs' win over Washington as well as other games of note from last weekend. I looked ahead at the Chiefs' game at Tennessee this weekend. Among other things, I am really interested to see the battle between Nick Bolton and Derrick Henry. Henry runs over people, but everyone Bolton touches is tackled. Who will win that battle when it happens? I also look at all of the other Sunday and Monday games.

All three local colleges lost last weekend. I reviewed those games and some of the other games of interest from last weekend. I discussed some of the news in college football. Then it was about the games of interest this weekend. There are not a lot of great games this weekend, but I found six or seven games that you might be interested in watching.

This week I discussed more than just the Chiefs. Sure, we touched on the Chiefs' win in Washington. I also discussed Chris Klieman's terrible judgment asking the media to write something positive about his team to help their confidence, Cuonzo Martin's contract, and Kansas' preseason outlook. I touched on some happenings in college football this past weekend as well as a change to minor league baseball. It was a busy episode.

This is the first episode of the new Pay Heed episodes covering Kansas basketball. In this first episode I talked about the roster. I went over the players who left since last season, the newcomers, and the guys returning. Pay Heed will be published once per week to start. It might increase to twice a week based on how things go. In this episode we hear from Andy Reid about the turnover problem with the offense, how defenses are playing them differently this season, and the pressure, or lack thereof, that is being applied on the opposing quarterback by the Chiefs' defensive line. Eli Drinkwitz took more questions about his team's effort on the field. He also points out that things are going great for the Chiefs either. Lance Leipold and Chris Klieman talked about their bye weeks. This week I dug into the Chiefs' defense with clips from Andy Reid and Steve Spagnuolo. I also broke down what Eli Drinkwitz said as it is clear that he is feeling the pressure. I then went to Lawrence and talked about what Lance Leipold had to say about building his team. Then further west to Kansas State where Chris Klieman has his program in the best shape right now of the three locals. And finally, we will hear from Sporting manager Peter Vermes on handling the international window and why Daniel Salloi is not being talked about for league MVP. It's the nest episode yet.
