Locked On Baylor - Daily Podcast On Baylor Bears Football & Basketball

Big 12 fans were introduced to new commissioner Brett Yormark for the first time at Big 12 media days. Yormark, who becomes the fifth commissioner of the league as he replaces Bob Bowlsby, is an outsider. He doesn't know the Big 12. He hasn't been around the conference. He's lost. But he's the perfect fit. The New Jersey native is going to immediately poach teams from the Pac-12 in order to keep the Big 12 alive. From Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado, Washington and Oregon, Yormark will take his pick as Pac-12 schools, and those institutions have zero reasons to sit where they are. Their conference is rapidly dying with the loss of USC and UCLA, and there are no regional teams to step in and fill that void. Moreover, Big 12 schools like Oklahoma State and Baylor would never ditch the Big 12 to head west. With this being the case, Yormark, as could be gathered on Big 12 media day, is going to have a field day. If there is a Pac-12 team to be had and he wants them, he'll stop at nothing to add them aboard and strengthen the Big 12 conference. On today's show, Drake and Cameron Stuart break down everything from a review of Yormark's press conference to detailing how he'll find a way to put the Big 12 on top in a new era of innovation. This one is good. Oh, and Dave Aranda jumps on at the end. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LinkedIn LinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. Appreciate the Question The 2022 Big 12 Media Days kicked off in Dallas yesterday and there was plenty to discuss. Baylor President Linda Livingstone introduced the brand new Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark, who will take over for Bob Bowlsby on August 1. First to the podium was Baylor head coach Dave Aranda. Aranda enters his third season with the Bears as the defending Big 12 champions and also the media's preseason selection to win the league—a first in school history. It would be the first time Baylor won back to back Big 12 titles since 2013-14. However, champions are not made based on paper ballots or what a team did the year before. Aranda noted how this is a ‘brand new team' and that while the lights are nice, he is more concerned in the process each player is going through in Waco. A tough offseason decision was made by Aranda to name Blake Shapen the starting quarterback over incumbent Gerry Bohanon. But could it be a championship decision to lift the Bears to not only a Big 12 title but a national championship? We discuss Coach Aranda's press conference, Baylor's perilous task ahead to repeat, the QB situation and more in this episode of the Bears Illustrated Podcast. Appreciate your listening. For the first time, Big 12 Media Days opened with two commissioners at the podium. Brett Yormark, who starts the job on Aug. 1, shared the stage with outgoing boss Bob Bowlsby. On today's SportsBeat KC, you'll hear from both. Yormark provides his vision for the Big 12, and obviously the outlook is changing with the recent realgnment shuffle that is sending USC and UCLA from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten in 2024. Add navigating the Big 12 through the latest choppy waters to the to-do list, topped by landing the league's new TV package. Bowlsby has been through it all in his decade as Big 12 boss. He opened up to reporters about the state of college sports, the successes of the league, and offered a surprising regret, or disappointment. According to Wilton Jackson of Sports Illustrated, and as written in his report here (https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UCy_stISxa-9rQQji4-u1eFg/videos/upload?d=ud&filter=%5B%5D&sort=%7B%22columnType%22%3A%22date%22%2C%22sortOrder%22%3A%22DESCENDING%22%7D), Big 12 officially announced the hiring of Brett Yormark as the fifth commissioner of the conference on Wednesday. The decision was announced by the league's board of directors.  Yormark comes to the league after spending three years at Jay-Z's Roc Nation serving as the COO and co-CEO of Roc Nation Unified, the commercial side of the business. He replaces former Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, who stepped down from his role after 10 years in April. Bowlsby had previously been the longest-tenured person in a commissioner's role in a Power 5 conference. Yormark has worked with countless artists, athletes, leagues, teams, brands as well as oversaw sponsorship, licensing, content partnerships and brand strategy.  These key elements are important as Yormark now joins the college football landscape, one that is dominated by name, image and likeness and an unstable terrain in which the NCAA's Power 5 conferences are “seeking to have more legislative power” and the “ability to shape rules and even enforce policy on their own,” as SI's Ross Dellenger and Pat Forde wrote this week. The 55-year-old Yormark said he is eager to “listen, learn, find ways to add value, add resources and try to help shine light” on college sports.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!    Emily Stone and Heather Eslick were kind enough to join us at KKHI and we congratulate them on their school board wins in Harrisonville and Lee's Summit Tuesday night as school boards are moving to the right!  We break down how it went all over the area.    Former President Obama was way off his game at the White House Tuesday and I can't believe nobody is talking about his absolute flub at the start of his speech.  The great orator absolutely botched the one thing he was actually there to accomplish.  I love it.    Actor Sean Penn says he doesn't trust Sean Hannity but went on his Fox tv show as they are both all about blowing Vladimir Putin to hell.  It was really a strange interview.    Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby is retiring as sources say he' frustrated with the state of college athletics.  We name names of possible replacements.   Frito Lay is celebrating "Cracker Jill" this baseball season and one MLB team is selling a cheeseburger for $25,000 at the ball park this year.
