The Jayhawks have largely turned over their men's basketball roster for next season and the biggest addition is Hunter Dickinson, the 7-1 standout from Michigan who is transferring to Bill Self's program. Darren did a short wrap on the weekends sports and a big look ahead to a very busy week in sports! We postponed the podcast for a couple of days to allow us to prepare a look ahead and to the watch the NCAA championship game in college basketball. It was a great tournament that culminated in the final pitting the #1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks vs the #8 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels. This was a game that was the tale of two halves. UNC was by far the better team in the first half and had a dominating lead up 15 by the score 40-25 in the half. The Jayhawks went into the locker room and made some big adjustments. Only 7 minutes into the second half they had erased the deficit and tied the game up! Kansas was finally playing defense and scoring and turned the tables and flexed their muscle. They ended up showing what had propelled them to a top seed and favorite to win the title. The final blow was when UNC's Armando Bacot reaggravated his ankle injury and David McCormack took advantage of the lack of size inside and scored the two biggest buckets to give Kansas the win. it was coach Bill Self's second title and fourth in team history. It was fun to watch and great to witness the culmination of the tournament. We looked ahead to the last week of the NBA regular season. We went over the top ten teams in each conference. The Raptors are in 5th place in the East and locked up a guaranteed playoff spot. The Lakers on the other hand were eliminated from playoff competition with yet another loss last night. It was a brutal year and they quite frankly did not deserve to be there. We also went through both conferences in the NHL and discussed the playoff teams in each. The season would typically be finished by now but the NHL pushed their season later this year and so most teams have 10 to 12 games remaining. The Masters golf tournament received a massive shot in the arm as Tiger Woods is returning after 508 days off as he recovered from surgery after a car accident 14 months ago. Tiger doesn't just move the needle he is the needle in the golf world and he became the top story in sports this week. It will be fun to see his return and the hype surrounding it. The UFC 273 PPV is this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. With two title fights on the line this card is shaping up to be epic! Khamzat Chimaev is getting a lot of attention as he returns to the octagon for the first time in a while. Don't miss this card or you will regret it. This is opening week of the MLB season. The league had its troubles in the off season but most is forgotten now as the full 162 game season starts on Thursday! The early favorites to win it all are the LA Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays. It should be a very fun year North of the border. The Canadian women's soccer team is playing two games in BC this weekend and the Olympic team will be honored at the game! The athlete only began hormone therapy last year, according to the BBC. (Use 0:15-0:23) Later on in the first half, Agbaji becomes the facilitator to the BIG MAN, David Mccormack, who jams it home, giving Kansas a 15-point lead. (Use 0:24-0:31) Fast forward to the second half, Nova is trying to make it more interesting as they have it cut to 8 here, but Agbaji strikes again from deep! Agbaji hit 6-three pointers on the night, and 21 points overall. (Use 0:58-1:05) Then half-way through the second half, Kansas by 10, gets the ball inside to the big man, Mccormack, who SENDS IT IN WITH AUTHORITY, MY GOODNESS. Mccormack would finish with 25 points, a season high… but those points were easily the highlight of the night. (Use 1:16-1:25) But Nova, not done yet! As they get it inside to Jermaine Samuels, who uses his strength to get the AND ONE. The Wildcats cut it to 6 with just over 6 minutes to go! (Use 1:36-1:46) Kansas would respond IMMEDIATELY, as they went inside once again to Mccormack, who gets another tough basket to go… keeping a cushion between themselves and the trailing wildcats. (Use 1:47-1:57) Then finally, late in the second half, Kansas would go on to put the nail in the coffin, as Christian Brown, knocked down a three-pointer as the shot clock was expiring… Brown would have 10 points in the second half alone, and Kansas, goes on to win, 81-65. This game was close the entire way, as Paolo Banchero, gets a nice outlet pass, and jams it home… Duke goes on top 17-16 early in the first half. (Use 0:39-0:47) Fast forward to one minute remaining in the first, UNC forces the turn over, and converts in transition, with the pretty move by Caleb Love, Love would lead all scorers for the Tarheels with 28 points. What a game for him. (Use 0:47-0:56). Just before the break on the other end of the court, Jeremy Roach gets the bucket, and the foul! Duke would go into halftime with a 37-34 lead. (Use 0:56-1:04) Second half now, Banchero gets the ball from a pick & pop, pump fakes it, and drives inside, slamming it home… The 6’10 forward had 20 points on the night. (Use 1:05-1:13). North Carolina would respond however, FROM DEEP. Hand down, man down. A tough shot right there from Caleb Love, cutting Duke’s lead back down to 1. Use (1:13-1:21). Then, North Carolina’s ball movement carves up Duke’s defense like a Christmas ham, and Caleb Love, once again takes advantage, with a pretty scoop & score over a MUCH taller defender. The lawyer for a former Washington VP of sales and customer service said her client testified truthfully and accused the NFL club of defamation. Front Office Sports citing sources reported the House Oversight Committee received information to indicate Washington withheld ticket revenue. Seja: Brisbane via Germany musician Seja Vogel, has had a prolific career since starting her first band Sekiden in 1998. Once signed to Modular they released 2 albums and 2 EP’s, touring extensively throughout Australia, Canada, Japan and the USA. She was also a touring member of Brisbane favourites Regurgitator, joining in 2007 and also contributed to the Love and Paranoia album which was released in the same year. Seja has also lent her keyboarding and singing skills to touring buddies such as SPOD, David McCormack and Ben Salter. In 2010 Seja began releasing under her own name with her debut solo album We Have Secrets But Nobody Cares via Rice Is Nice. Working with Robert Forster, Cut Copy’s Tim Hoey, Regurgitator’s Ben Ely and Wally De Backer, Seja wrote and recorded a second volume of sweetly synthesised soundscapes entitled All Our Wires in 2013. Recorded at Sonic Masala Festival in Brisbane on the 19th of August 2017. Recorded and mixed by Reuben Aptroot. McKisko: McKisko is Helen Franzmann, a Brisbane-based musician who began her musical career writing and performing in the band Redbreast. After winning the Grant McLennan Fellowship in 2009, she recorded and released her debut under the McKisko moniker entitled Glorio, and then toured the country non-stop supporting the likes of Bon Iver and Jose Gonzales. She then followed up with 2013’s Eximo, which was released through El Nino records. Her songs are built using inventive instrumentation, an intimate honesty, and a lyricism that journeys through abstract landscapes imbued with emotion.
