Michael Chad Barrett earned degrees in painting and art history from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While attending, he discovered that he could combine classical painting techniques with a sophisticated use of Southern decorative tradition, to create art that is simultaneously original and familiar. Chad Barrett's work expresses narratives in subject and context: landscapes that capture the mystery of a country tableau, still-lifes that dramatize the juxtaposition of shapes and movement, portraits that play with divine elegance and period style. His work is a constant cycle of construction and deconstruction. The result is a discussion of contrast - image vs. materials, decadence vs. simplicity, depth vs. artifice. In this episode of Look at Us now, Fran talks with Chad who happens to also be her cousin about how each of them has garnered success by selling their art.
