JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Jackson family is reeling from the loss of a popular DJ and small business owner killed while driving on North State Street. The gunfire that took Anthony Davis Jr.'s life, robbed his family and the community of a hard worker and new father. “He was a very lively person, full of life,” said Jennifer Davis. “He had so many aspirations and dreams that he was trying to reach for.” Three days after Davis was shot and killed, his mother Jennifer, and father Anthony Davis Sr. were surrounded by family as they remembered their youngest son. He was known to many as “DJ Choo.” Monday evening, Davis's supervisor contacted his mother when he couldn't reach him. “And he said that Anthony has not made it back to work and that's unusual, and he went to go drop a client off because he works at Enterprise,” said Jennifer Davis. Relatives located Anthony's phone and learned of the tragic news. “You're working. You're on your way to work, doing your job, and all of a sudden you just leave this world, just like that. Point blank,” said Anthony Davis Sr. “I mean I don't understand. I never will.” The close-knit family is still in shock and at a loss for words when sharing the news with his young nieces and nephews. “He's the baby of seven, the baby,” said sister Antoinette Davis. “He just had a birthday, just had a child. Like I say, he was happy to be a dad. The city loved him.” The family blames high-powered guns in the hands of uncaring people for the violence. Despite their suffering, their faith has given them strength. They are asking for the public's help with solving the case. “Even to the people that did that you know I can't hate them. I even forgive them, and I don't even know who they are,” said the grieving mother. “When my son left this world he left doing what he loved to do and that's work.” Davis was the 12th fatal shooting victim of the year. Jackson Police have recovered one of the vehicles used during the city's latest homicide. The black Chrysler 300 was found at Autumn Place Apartments in South Jackson. A black Hyundai Sonata has not been located. So, far no arrests have been made in Monday's deadly shooting.

Police Bodycam: Teacher Arrested at School for ‘Drunkenness' After Alcohol Was Smelled on Her Breath An elementary school teacher in Oklahoma was arrested for public intoxication after she blew a 0.066 and appeared to be drunk inside the classroom. Tecumseh police say Jennifer Davis' eyes were red and glassy and she had slurred speech when they sat down with her at 8:45 a.m. on September 7. "Please don't do this,” Davis can be heard saying on body camera footage. “I will have my sister come get me and I will resign." Davis said she had a glass of wine the night before, but nothing on the day of her arrest.

Before Europeans landed in North America, five Indigenous nations around what would become New York State came together to form the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. When the Europeans arrived, the French called them the Iroquois Confederacy, and the English called them the League of Five Nations. Those Five Nations were the Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas, and Senecas; the Tuscaroras joined the Confederacy in 1722. Some founding father of the United States, including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin admired the Haudenosaunee and incorporated their ideas into the U.S. Constitution. Despite that admiration, though, the United States government and the state government of New York did not always treat the Haudenosaunee with respect, and Haudenosaunee leaders had to navigate a difficult terrain in maintaining their sovereignty. Today we're going to look at the relationship between the Haudenosaunee and the United States through the stories of four individuals: Red Jacket, Ely S. Parker, Harriet Maxwell Converse, and Arthur C. Parker. Joining me in this episode is Dr. John C. Winters, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Southern Mississippi and author of The Amazing Iroquois and the Invention of the Empire State. Our theme song is Frogs Legs Rag, composed by James Scott and performed by Kevin MacLeod, licensed under Creative Commons. Episode 57: Psychotic symptoms, often collectively referred to as psychosis, can be part of many illnesses and are when the brain has trouble distinguishing between what is real from what is not. Psychosis is a symptom, not an illness, and as many as 3 out of every 100 people will experience an episode of psychosis in their lifetime due to either a medical or a mental health condition. It is common for a person to experience psychotic symptoms for more than a year before receiving treatment. Early treatment of psychosis is critical because it often means better recovery. Understanding more about and learning to recognize psychotic symptoms means being in a better position to help those experiencing psychosis get the appropriate care sooner. Joining me for this conversation is Dr. Jennifer Davis, a Double Board Certified General and Child-Adolescent Psychiatrist and two guests who are both in recovery from their mental illnesses, peer counselor Tim Beveridge and peer specialist Kenah Roberts.

Residential homes are great alternatives to large senior living facilities. They feel like a home because they actually are houses rather than a resort or hotel atmosphere, and there's often a better ratio of caregivers to residents. There are many reasons why you might choose a residential home over another type of senior living, but Hal Cranmer adds even more to the experience. Based in Arizona, his residential homes are next level in terms of health offerings and engaging activities. His residents and caregivers are treated as family, complete with “home movies” – like a parody video of Queen's “Bohemian Rhapsody” reimagined for seniors. Hal joins Senior Living Expert Lori Williams to discuss his interesting journey to managing residential homes and his passion for his career. His care homes demonstrate this passion as Hal and his caregivers support seniors regaining control over their health and their lives through nutritious food, fun outings, and even personal training so they can stay active. Plus, families can easily visit, get involved, and help keep the seniors social and happy. Hal believes seniors are still young on the inside – and many want to continue to have fun and be healthy for their families. His mission is to help that happen. You'll get a peek at what the fun, family-like atmosphere he's nurtured in this unique example of a residential home. Topics discussed: -Residential care homes -Caregivers -Keeping seniors happy -Senior activities -Staying active as we age -Senior nutrition and fitness -Types of senior living -Perks of residential care Takeaways from this episode: - You might choose a residential care home over a larger facility because of price. Generally, care homes are priced lower than large facilities. - Care homes supply 24/7 care, administer medications, and provide all meals, healthcare, and hygiene. They also coordinate different services like home health and mobile physicians. - In the State of Arizona, Residential care homes are often limited to 10 residents and offer a more family / homey atmosphere. There's no signage and it may be harder to find. - Residential care can provide a home whether you're active and just need a little help with medication, or if you're on hospice and bedbound. - Proper nutrition and exercise help improve quality of life in your remaining years.
