My ambition is to get you to take action and move towards the life you want. We all have goals, and most of us want to be further along in life than we are currently. Whether you want to get in the best shape of your life, build a business, start a podcas
It's easy to go down the thought process of "Vacation is coming up. I only have two choices: 1. Enjoy myself & eat / drink whatever I want, or 2. Be disciplined & stay in shape, but not have any fun." In this episode, I talk a bit about how reframing the way we think about vacations can be useful (and make vacations more enjoyable). I also give direct tactics that you can apply to make staying in shape on vacation much easier. There is a whole segment on alcohol & how to still enjoy your trip without setting yourself way back (hint: 15 Mai Tais is probably a bad idea). Vacations should be a net positive when it's all said and done, and if we can find a way to go, relax, and come back recharged without feeling like we set ourselves back on progress, that's the way to go. Enjoy!
Josh Clemente is a former high-level SpaceX and Hyperloop engineer, turned founder of the rapidly scaling health-tech company (Levels Health). In this episode, Josh discusses how to apply first principles thinking to solve problems - whether in your career, relationships, or life in general. We also discussed the process of launching Levels, a product that allows you to look "under the hood" and see how foods you eat affect your blood sugar in real time, long term. If you've listened to any of my previous episodes, it's likely that you've heard me mention how important this is for health, performance, and longevity. Josh shared insights on how you can improve your blood glucose levels & how taking charge of his own health drastically changed his cognitive performance, energy, and mood. You can find out more about Levels and request access to the product here --> https://www.levelshealth.com/ or on Instagram @levels Enjoy!
I recorded this episode with the intention of creating a resource that you can use forever. Once you understand the principles of fat loss, you can apply those principles to any scenario presented to you & understand whether some nutrition claim is true or false (I.E. Will intermittent fasting directly cause fat loss? Will out-of-wack hormones cause fat gain independent of what you try to do? Can you eat as much as you want on a Keto Diet?) In this episode, I toggle between education and application. I don't just talk about the mechanics of fat loss - I also give you direct step-by-step guidance on how to apply what's discussed to meet your goals. I did my best to make this educational, but also easy to follow, with examples & tools. As always, please reach out to me on Instagram @stevenborden with any questions or feedback from this episode. Enjoy!
Ben Jenkins is a thoroughbred entrepreneur. He's built and scaled several companies - from brick & mortar, to most recently a tech company whose services you've probably used before (whether or not you realize it). We discussed the process of how he built this company, the hurdles he faced / how he overcame them, and what it was like to have the moment many founders dream about - an opportunity to cash in on selling your company. Ben is one of the most impressive people I've had the privilege of knowing & someone I'm excited to have the opportunity to introduce you all to. Enjoy!
If you've ever wondered what the actual health benefits of physical activity / exercise are, Dr. Chris Morris breaks it all down & much more on this episode. We discuss exactly what happens in your body when you exercise regularly, how it increases longevity, and why it makes everything else you do "cost you less". We talk about how to increase the capacity of your "tank" so you can handle more stress - whether that's work stress, training stress, or life stress. Dr. Chris Morris is the Director of Performance Science at University of Kentucky & someone who has extensive experience managing and optimizing human performance. This was a beyond fascinating discussion and he provided real tools you can begin using today to increase your threshold. Enjoy! If you've ever been curious why that one person you know seems like he / she can eat whatever they want and not gain weight, this episode will deliver the answers! I was fortunate to chat with a good friend who simply made a list of questions he was curious to ask / thought may be valuable for others. We discussed that energy crash after lunch (and how to avoid it), optimal conditions for sleep (and what behaviors my Oura ring sleep tracker picks up on) and much more. I hope the information here is useful for you - enjoy!
Why does your body feel "tight" or "stiff"? Why has endless stretching and foam rolling not removed pain and stiffness during training? What can you do to increase range of motion in a squat, and where do you start if you literally can't squat halfway down right now? This episode starts off with tangible strategy right from the beginning as Quinn addresses each of those questions. Quinn is a well respected name in the strength & conditioning / physical therapy space as he is a rare breed that has expertise in both. He's also built a successful online business leveraging his expertise (and overcome his natural tendency to overthink things to do so). We talked about how Quinn got to where he is now, what separates good strenghth coaches / PTs from the rest, and how to just get yourself to START. You can find Quinn on Instagram at @quinn.henochdpt or find a vetted PT / Strength Coach provider in your part of the world at his website www.clinicalathlete.com Enjoy!
Great discussion with former teammate, long-time friend, and mammoth of a human being Jon Toth. After a dominant career at University of Kentucky, Jon injured his back just weeks before the NFL combine. A projected mid-round pick, Jon has had to fight his way back into the NFL after teams passed on him due to his injury. He's bounced from the Jets, Rams, Browns, Eagles, and more the past several years. We talked about the difficulty of investing so much energy and focus into something with zero guarantee of success and how he's staying disciplined despite that. We also talked about some of the changes that happened in the Kentucky program after Stoops took over and some stories of our time playing together, and much more. You can find Jon and his 36" quads on Instagram @jtoeth. Keep an eye out for him on Sundays in 2021!
In this episode I sit down with Dr. Erik Korem. Erik and I go back about seven years now - he was the Director of High Performance at University of Kentucky during my time playing ball there. Whether you want to perform better at your job, have more energy during the day, sleep better, lose body fat, etc, Erik is a wealth of knowledge and provides practical steps you can implement today.
