52 - Build and Monetize your Personal Brand with AJ Vaden

Mentors and Moguls Podcast

Today on the Mentors and Moguls Podcast with your host, Heather Stone, Heather is sitting down with AJ Vaden, co-founder of the Brand Builders Group, 8-figure entrepreneur, and co-host of The Influential Brand Podcast.    AJ discusses the question of what is a personal brand. Is it an online following, social media influencers or celebrities, course creation, speakers, authors, podcasters? In reality, AJ says, a “personal brand” is just an extension of your reputation. So the question is whether you are being intentional about the brand you are creating. What effort and intention are you putting into creating your “brand”? Do you know what you want to be known for?    Brand Builders Group is a personal brand strategy group for anyone who wants to become more well-known. Anyone who wants to enhance their personal brand needs to answer these four questions:  What problem do you solve?  Who do you solve this problem for?  What is your unique message to solving this problem?  How do you make money solving this problem?  When you know the answers to those four questions, you have clarity on your journey.    AJ does not believe in “overnight success” because no matter how immediate it may appear on the outside, years of hard work have gone into making anyone successful, overnight or not. Success comes out of hard work, time, intention, and resources. While that may look like overnight success from the outside, it can take a long time to even get to the place where you're able to achieve that “immediate success”    People are sometimes afraid to tell others about themselves and their work for fear of appearing “self-promotional” but the truth is, in order to gain personal success, you have to be willing to tell everyone about what you're doing because you believe in it. A book has the power to change your life, but you have to be willing to share it and talk about it. Even if you don't have a huge following, if you're willing to go on podcasts and tours and share to other followings, you can grow your audience and gain the following that will continue to make you successful long-term.    AJ was an art major in college but was encouraged by her father to change her major to something where she would be able to support herself long term so she changed to advertising and marketing. She ultimately did not want to work an office job where her salary was capped and she counted vacation days so at 22, she began her entrepreneurial journey. She started a business with one of her high school best friends, got recruited to a start-up and began putting on large motivational sales conferences. She learned how deeply being an entrepreneur meant just doing sales. AJ and her husband, Rory then co-created Brand Builders Group as a way to own and share their own experiences with others. She credits her faith in large part for helping her hold on through the tumultuous time of changing careers, starting new journeys, and building her family as she has moved to her success.    While people often think humility is at odds with the goal of growing a personal brand, AJ disagrees. She thinks you must be willing to share your own experiences if you believe they can help someone. Being willing to be vulnerable and human in your experiences, creates a trust and respect with your audience that will grow your success and following. That genuine audience is the single biggest factor in who people choose to buy from and follow.     What You'll Learn in This Podcast Episode:  In this episode, AJ Vaden offers questions and advice on how to intentionally and effectively create and grow your personal brand.       Helpful Links:  https://freebrandcall.com/heatherstone/  https://brandbuildersgroup.com/  IG: @AJ_Vaden  The Influential Personal Brand Podcast

The Second Phase Podcast - Personal Branding & Brand Marketing and Life Strategies for Success for Female Entrepreneurs

How can you use imposter syndrome as inspiration when creating a personal brand? Let imposter syndrome guide you to be disciplined in differentiating yourself as a personal brand. Share how you are unique in what you do and how you do it by creating your key three. Creating a personal brand is about differentiating yourself, and not letting imposter syndrome hold you back from being visible as the expert you are. What is personal branding? Personal branding is differentiating yourself from all others in your area of expertise. The second job of personal branding is demonstrating who you are, what you do, and how you do it. What is imposter syndrome and what does it have to do with creating a personal brand? According to the dictionary, imposter syndrome is the persistent inability to believe that your success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of your own efforts, skills, or abilities. Many times, entrepreneurs see what others in their space are doing and feel intimidated. Likewise, they may think that because someone else is already doing something, there won't be enough clients for everyone. Similarly, people often feel that because someone has been doing something longer, they won't be as good or don't have the right skills. These feelings result in fear and anxiety, which ultimately lead to procrastination. Procrastination is inaction, equating to goals not being met and success not being achieved. However, if you truly differentiate yourself people will see you as the person that is meant to help them. What makes you you is what makes people want to hire you. Likewise, what makes you you is what gives you the expertise to serve the way you want to serve. Personal branding is about showing the world what makes you unique, you being you. Your experience, your story, and your voice make you, you. That is what personal branding is all about, owning what makes you unique and demonstrating that where you can. Amplify your voice to differentiate yourself and stand out when creating a personal brand If you do not use your voice to differentiate yourself, you won't become known. Our voice, our appearance, our fashion, everything about us helps differentiate us from others in our area of expertise, whether local or online. Being a guest on a podcast is a great way to be present and have the masses hear your message. Share what you've learned to help others Take the hard work you did for decades, and share it far and wide. Don't sit on your knowledge, share it. Imposter Syndrome and how to use it for creating a personal brand Even if you don't have a degree, you can learn a skill, you have gifts, and you have had experiences that have taught you so that now you can help and serve other people. Often times people who don't have a degree in something, feel that they shouldn't be doing something because they don't have as much knowledge, but that is not true. If negative imposter syndrome is holding you back, it's important to recognize the skills and gifts you have that you can now use to serve others. DP emphasized that titles behind the name, don't help differentiate you as a brand. Being one of one is key. There are a lot of careers where you are one of many, you aren't standing out if you are one of many. Learn more about Neil deGrasse Tyson. Neil is a great example of a personal brand. Watch the video of Neil explaining the anatomy of the sound byte. Share your level of expertise to differentiate yourself If you want to stand out, you have to share your expertise. People will not find you if you are not sharing what you know and educating people on how you are unique and what you can do. Share your skills instead of being afraid and hiding your expertise. How can you create a quick message that differentiates you? You have a very limited time to capture the attention of others and differentiate yourself. The positive side of imposter syndrome Imposter syndrome is a powerful tool to make you better. It can make you more diligent in double and triple check what you create and share. DP suggested that we stop calling imposter syndrome imposter syndrome and call it diligence, discipline, and rigor. Being diligent, disciplined, and rigorous will help you dive deeper into what you are doing to make it more valuable for people. Think of imposter syndrome as an opportunity to push yourself into being the absolute best at what you do. DP shared that women need to embrace the fact that women run the world. Women have so much power and potential to change the next generation of the earth. Realize that you don't have to have the light shining on you 24/7 but you stand out, speak up, and have an impact. Own what is yours to own, your voice, your experiences, and the expertise you have earned, and be willing to share it with anyone. No one can call you an imposter based on your own experience. Differentiate wants from needs. Knowing what others want and need from you is another way to differentiate yourself. Often times people want to unload their problems and they simply need you to recognize the need. As you differentiate yourself by sharing that you understand the need will make you stand out. The Key Three™ of personal branding Create three concepts, words, or phrases that consistently, and concisely define exactly what you do and how you do it that you can constantly demonstrate in what you do. These will be words or phrases that people will appreciate and you will demonstrate in everything that you do.  DP used himself as an example. His key three are creative, collaborative, and provocative. Robyn's key three are strategic, creative, and empathetic. DP and Robyn do very similar work, yet they are very different. We can be in the same realm of work but be very unique and attract completely different audiences. Don't let imposter syndrome hold you back from creating your personal brand, instead use it to your advantage to be disciplined with demonstrating how unique you are in your area of expertise. The part of branding most clients want to get going on is the marketing. But as my podcast guests, this week highlighted, the number one biggest mistake in the world that somebody can do is market themselves before their brand is built. My guests don't just point out what 90% of personal brands do wrong; they also share their 3 step process for defining and building a great real estate brand. And part of that is the brand identifier. Why you've got to check out this episode: Find the three most important elements in your personal brand that will help you thrive in business. Discover the HEAP formula to figure out your ideal customer so you communicate a message that they can relate to. Know the five questions to ask to define your personal brand clearly and have your marketing efforts resonate with your target audience. To thrive in your real estate investing business, don't fall into the trap of marketing first without building your brand. It's like firing in all directions and not aiming at a target and you get nowhere. And in the real estate industry filled with people offering the same services, how can you catch attention? You need to hone in on your personal brand and get clear about it. When that is taken care of, everything else follows. In this episode, on the REI Branded podcast, Tonya Eberhart and Michael Carr could not stress enough how important building your personal brand is before anything else. Experience teaches them, and even logic would show, that dialing in on your personal brand, to which niching down also has a lot to do with it, will get you much further down the road in your business. Here they share their 3D process of drilling into your personal brand and coming out with something truly differentiated that really sets you apart from the rest, making you recognizable and relatable to people. 3 Rs Read Resource Reflect: Read: The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy Influencer: The New Science of Leading Change by Joseph Grenny Resources: Zoom Google Drive Reflect: "If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." - Wayne Dyer "Prosperity favors the bold, so be bold." - Michael Carr   Tonya Eberhart is the founder of BrandFace® and Branding Agent to Business Stars. She's also the author of four books on personal branding. Tonya's humble career began while selling vacuum cleaners door to door to pay her way through college. That led to a job in radio, where she observed local business owners featured in their own advertising and positioned as local celebrities in the market. That's when she realized the power that personal branding has on a business. Almost two decades and many successful brands later, she founded BrandFace®, a personal branding firm consisting of four personal branding books, a speaking series, and personal branding programs that are designed to help serious professionals differentiate themselves. Michael Carr is America's Top Selling Real Estate Auctioneer and the Abundant Life Broker. During his 28 years of experience, he has been actively involved in over 78,000 transactions and licensed in as many as 31 states in the continental U.S. as a broker and an auctioneer.. Michael first met Tonya in 2013 when he became a client. He immediately put her exclusive personal branding concepts to work at his brokerage. As a result, his real estate business quadrupled over the next year and continues to grow in recognition, revenue, and recruitment. “The point of a brand is to provoke emotional affinity, and no one can do that like a person,” says Jessica Zweig, founder of SimplyBe. In 2008, with no business experience, Jessica co-founded Cheeky Chicago, the largest online platform for singles in Chicago. Despite growing a business that she was one of the faces of, she eventually realized she needed to part ways with her then co-founder. She sent an email to her network, and before she was earning tens of thousands of dollars a month in retainer fees for her advice and consultation. It was then that she realized SHE was her own best asset and brand. People want to buy from people, and incorporating yourself into your branding strategy not only increases your current growth, but keeps the door open for long term possibilities. Some people are understandably reticent to put themselves out there on social media, but it's worth the potential impact. As Jessica says, it's crucial to let go of caring what anyone thinks of you. To grow a sustainable brand, it is crucial to create continuous opportunities. Here, Jessica recommends asking 3-5 people in your life to describe your intrinsic value, explains how our vibe attracts our tribe, and the difference between being a business owner and a shopkeeper. Quotes • “When you create a business that is so intrinsically connected to you, which if you're an entrepreneur it always is, to say I want to walk away from this is equivalent to saying to yourself I'm going to cut off my right foot. It just doesn't equate because you're so connected. But I had to follow the call of my soul.” (7:34-7:54 | Jessica) • “I realized that I had an asset called my personal brand. ‘Cheeky' was not the brand, I was. And I didn't even realize that.” (13:13-13:27 | Jessica) • “People do business with people. That's my mantra. When a brand message is shared by a person, versus the company sharing that brand message it gets 561 percent more engagement.” (20:06-20:21 | Jessica) • “We all have a unique reason for being here, and your product and your business can be manifestations and expressions of that reason for being.”(24:57-25:05 | Jessica) • “People want you to win.” (42:51-42:53 | Jessica) • “If you have those people who have your back, who are going to lift you up, call you out, but support you every step of the way, you won't fail.” (44:57-45:08 | Jessica) Connect with Jessica Zweig: Website | https://simplybeagency.com/ Instagram | http://www.instagram.com/jessicazweig Please don't forget to rate, comment, and subscribe to Dear FoundHer on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts! About Jennifer GrimsonI was a single mother who lost everything; I found myself with no money, no job, no car, no place to live and the sole support for my two children...TWICE.  I knew that I had to rebuild again. This time, instead of just looking for a job with a big paycheck, I was going to find a way to grow my money. I envisioned creating a series of income producing “micro empires” that would protect me, my family and my assets.  I felt like I was running out of time; I was in my 40s, with zero retirement funds, no assets and no clue how to begin. After struggling to pay bills and stay above water, I wasn't about to follow the advice of a blogger in a coffee shop telling me to ‘quit my job' and ‘follow my dreams'.  I also couldn't get what I needed  from established billionaires whose advice was too broad.  I needed concrete steps that I could easily follow and I didn't know where to begin or where to turn.Over the next 4 years, I took tiny, actionable steps that moved me in the direction of these goals.  I surrounded myself with the right people and took calculated, educated moves. I did not quit my job. I did not win the lottery. I did not get an inheritance.  I manipulated my 401k, I learned about new vehicles for investments, I used my paycheck, I used my HSA, I used the tools I had at hand at the time. I took micro-risks.At the end of these 4 years, I had over $1.4m in income producing properties, had become a hard money lender and had invested in private technology companies.  I realized that I had created my own micro empire! The goal of the Micro-Empires Podcast is to provide those real life steps and tools to create and grow your micro empires.  I will bring in experts, take your questions and share my experiences. This podcast is about YOU.  We all have a story; whether your story is a lot like mine or totally different. Maybe you have a good job, but you know in your heart that you want more.  Maybe you just want to expand in the work you're doing now.  Maybe you want to retire early or have more financial security.  Maybe you are just getting started and you're 50 and you're worried it's too late.  No matter what your story is, there is a path to building your own empire. “You DO care about what others think of you. That's your reputation.” -Keith Weinhold People care about your brand when you create value for them. Next, you must reach people. A construction worker in London decided that he wasn't where he was meant to be in life. He's our guest, Steve D. Sims. He started asking others why they were wealthy but he wasn't. A personal branding expert, Steve tells us why the right brand for you is the “authentic you”. When you meet someone, ask them about themselves. They are their own favorite subject. “A brand is what people say about you when you've left the room.” -Steve Sims Brands are either solution-based or aspirational. Every person has a brand. Donald Trump was well-branded because he had clear slogans like “Make America Great Again” and “Build A Wall”. The lesson? Be clear about who you are or what you stand for. It's OK to know what you're “not”. For example, I didn't know how to hire a COO for GRE and still don't have experience managing people. I'm your host, Keith Weinhold. There's so much to pack into one show today - inflation at its highest rate in over 40 years, the Fed raising interest rates the most in 28 years, rents are going up fast, then GRE's COO Aundrea Newbern & I on our favorite REI resources. Today, on Get Rich Education.   _______________________   Welcome to GRE! I'm your host, Keith Weinhold.   When it comes to developing your personal brand to it's highest potential, what are those traps you might be falling into that have prevented you from doing so. And…   There was once a construction worker in London and one day he realized that this just wasn't where he was meant to be in life.    He contributes to the personal brand discussion today too… on this week's episode of Get Rich Education. ______________   Welcome to GRE! From Franklin, MA to Franklin, TN and across 188 nations worldwide… I'm Keith Weinhold.    With more than 4 million listens, though you're tuned into one of America's longest-running and most listened-to real estate shows, today, it's about how to develop your personal brand which applies most anywhere.   There are a few definitions of a brand. A more strict one is that a brand is an intangible marketing or business concept that helps people identify a company, product, or individual.   OK, I guess that's pretty good. Another definition of a brand I've heard that I like is: “Your unique promise kept over time.” That's what a brand is.   A big part of keeping promises is doing what you say you're going to do. Therefore, it's a commitment.   In my mind, a big part of that is keeping your appointments.    If I'm going to collaborate with someone and we have a pre-determined date & time, I put that on my calendar and I would not change that commitment unless some inordinate or unusual circumstance came up.   That person trusted me with their time and I trusted them with my time. If someone tells me later that they'd like to re-schedule with me, well, often I don't do it.    With all the choices I have for spending my time, their wavering commitment doesn't really reflect so well on their personal brand.   Also, other people would have liked to have that time with me & they couldn't get it because I already committed it to that person that wanted to cancel or postpone.   People that have their act together, well-branded people, commit and show up on time.   I'll give you an example of a well-branded person that keeps commitments - whether you like him or not, in my experience, that is, yep, Rich Dad, Poor Dad author Robert Kiyosaki.   Robert & I have done a bunch of collaborations in the past, I used to be a writer for the Rich Dad Advisors, he's been a guest right here with us on the GRE Podcast four times.   Not once have we tried to re-schedule or cancel an appointment on each other.    Even if we plan something a month in advance, we keep it. We don't have to send each other reminders. It was put on our calendar at the time we made the appointment, so what more do you need?   And you wonder why that guy is so successful. Well, one reason could be that he keeps commitments.    Now, when it comes to your personal brand - which includes your belief systems, your values, commitment levels, there's one thing that some people need to “get over” - and I think that Hal Elrod & I touched on this here on the show 3 weeks ago.   It's this myth. There are people that brashly say, “Hey, I don't care about what other people think of me.”    Oh, that's wrong. You do too care about what other people think. Because that's your reputation.    It can be interesting to see the person that says they didn't care about what other people think, say, have a fake social media account made up impersonating their likeness and embarrassing them.   You had better believe that person that said they don't care about what other people think… frantically tries to point out that, “Hey, I don't want you thinking that was me over there spamming you.” Someone is impersonating my account.    “Oh, well didn't you just say that you don't care about what other people think?” See you did care… and you should. That's your reputation.   What if you own a restaurant & people leave negative reviews about your business & you as a businessperson, you care.   DO CARE… about what others think. That's honesty. But yeah, don't care too much.    People will care about your brand when they know that you can bring them value. When you start with creating value first, second is how are you going to reach people, and then thirdly, it's how are you going to create income.   It's value, reach, then income. 1-2-3   I'm reaching you right now with this show. In fact, there was a time, between 5 & 10 years ago, that even by having a show like this, one could create value, reach, and income.   For new entrants, those days are gone. The podcast landscape became saturated a few years ago and it's almost impossible to get substantial reach today.    For startups today, a podcast is a lot like a website was 20 years ago.   Neither one stands out just by virtue of having one.    You can have a website just like you can have a podcast, but anymore, how would you ever get enough website visitors to make a difference or how would you attract enough podcast listeners to make a difference.   Even celebrities that have name brand recognition that have crossed over and started podcasts usually don't get much traction anymore. They are drowned out in a saturated field.   So if you want your brand to reach people today, well, that's a really long discussion and this isn't a marketing show. So I'd start with just two pieces of guidance:   #1 - Look for that new media source that isn't crowded today. It might be that “next” media type. For a while, people thought that it might be voice-activated media like Alexa or Siri. I don't really know that that's getting traction like some thought. But that's the way to be thinking. “What's next?”   Secondly, if you know of a thought leader that wants to get their message out with a podcast today, rather than starting their own show and entering a crowded field… gosh, starting your own show, you could spin your wheels with many episodes and unlike a website that doesn't need to be constantly updated…   … a podcast takes regular releases, and production, advertising, sound engineering and marketing, transcription, and a support network of complimentary resources from video to social media and more.   Well, I've got a great shortcut to that… in the podcasting world that will save you a lot of time, money, and frustration.   If you know someone that wants to get their message out through a podcast today, the big shortcut is to be a guest on another show that already has a big following.   That way, you've outsourced all of the production and marketing and everything else to a proven channel. That can save you hundreds or thousands of hours in your life.   Rather than starting a podcast, be a guest on a few big name shows.   Now that you know how you're going to provide value to the world, you've got your reach too.   Hey, I've got more thoughts like this for you on building your personal brand. Before I share those, let's talk to today's remarkable guest on how to build your personal brand. ___________   Oh, yeah, a really interesting interview with Steve Sims today.   One thing we discussed is that you can't snap your fingers and instantly make yourself someone that you're not. It's about gradually being who you are becoming.   Now, here at GRE, our show keeps growing and about two years ago, I needed to make a new key hire to run the internal operations here so that I could have enough time clear to make the best content for you every week.   But, gosh, I really didn't know how to make a quality hire here - like, to bring in an experienced pro.   Realizing I didn't even know how to hire someone, I looked around my network of people… and I knew that Ken McElroy had employed a Hiring Manager, Jennifer, to help him and I tapped her so that Jennifer could find a COO for GRE.    Jennifer & I worked on the position advertisement, she interviewed the top candidates, narrowed it down to three, and Aundrea was selected.   Then I got Garrett Sutton to help me write the work contract.   So, I had acknowledged that hiring a top pro was beyond my skillset.   And Aundrea is such a professional here - she has her MBA too - that when GRE added more staff later, she's the one that does the interviewing - not me.   And then… continuing in this vein of, “Don't pretend to be someone you're not.”   When we make a new hire here at GRE, I don't pretend like I have some lofty corporate experience at knowing how to run things around here.   When I first talk to that new hire here, I simply tell them the truth. I say something like:   “I found myself with a show here that a lot of people seem to like to listen to… but don't have any experience managing people. So I really want you to feel comfortable in speaking up when you think I could be doing something better.” Yeah, I tell everyone something like that.   Alright, well, what did that just do when I told them this?    First, it's honesty. It makes me more comfortable It made the new hire more comfortable And finally, I'm not pretending to be someone that I'm not. When I was in the working world, I didn't climb up the corporate ladder. I didn't get that corporate experience. Instead, I decided to leave that world behind.   Steve made a terrific point at the end about brand clarity - being clear on what your brand stands for - whether that's your personal brand or your company's brand.   I told you near the start of the show that commitment & respecting other people's time is a big part of my personal brand. Certainly, attention to detail too.   GRE's brand clarity is in four words: Real Estate Financial Freedom. Those four words tell you where you & I are going together & how you're getting there too.   Once you're in the GRE world and tribe, then we can get more nuanced, for example, with our strategy and brand of “FF beats DF”. And with that, you see how “RE FF” is achieved faster.   I sign off each show with “Don't Quit Your Daydream” and it's a trademark that we own here at GRE.   So the point is, be clear and memorable in order to have a successful brand for yourself.   This doesn't have to be that well-developed and you don't have to have terms trademarked to have a strong brand.   Juan, my landscaper wacks all the weeds along my fence and doesn't leave any clippings behind. I can see that his brand was there - imprinted in my backyard.   Speaking of some other well-branded real estate figures, if you want to listen to Grant Cardone & I together here on the show, where we 10X your wealth together, he was with us on Episode 264.   Robert Kiyosaki's latest appearance here on GRE was last year. You will find he & I together most recently on Episode 358.    As far as today's chat, you might be interested in SEEING Steve Sims & I's chat from today other than just listening to the audio here. It might help reinforce some of these branding concept for you.   He's also just a really interesting figure to see and listen to. You can do that on your YouTube Channel… which is really easy to find and remember… because we're - I suppose - consistently-branded - ha!   That's because our YouTube Channel is called “Get Rich Education”. I'd expect that video to be published there by about now.   Personal branding means that there is… perhaps… a better investment than leveraged income property.   That investment… is YOU.   Until next week, I'm your host, Keith Weinhold. Don't Quit Your Daydream!

She's also the co-host of the Influential Personal Brand podcast, named one of Forbes' top 10 podcasts to listen to in 2021. [7:00] Personal Branding in 2022“You already have a personal brand. Everyone has one, it's not a matter of, do I want one or should I get one? You already have one.”“A personal brand is the intentional effort of building your reputation… It's a new trendy term for a very long old established a concept which is your reputation, what are you known for.”“We've all heard that old saying your reputation precedes you , and it really does. Believe it or not, you get to influence that based on who you hang out with, what you talk about, what you share, what you put online, it's all the different things that are, compartmentalized on a day to day basis, but they all make up this overarching, who am I?”“Your comfort will always hold you back from your calling.”[23:00] Study on Personal Branding “The majority of all Americans said, a personal brand to them is just someone who is simply recognizable to them.”“You are recognized by someone every day in your life.”“Millennials say that their most trusted source of product information is their friends.”“The number one thing that was most important to people when deciding to purchase from someone was whether or not they had testimonials.”“People want third-party validation that you are, who you say you are, and you do what you say you're going to do by people that look and feel like me.”[43:00] Future of influencer marketing“The trust is held with the individual, not the company.”“It's Not what you do, it's who you are.”“People fall in love with you, not what you do. And at some point we stopped doing that. We stopped letting people get to know us.”“Don't be vanilla, don't be neutral.. that's not what people need..I need someone who's going to be willing to speak some truth and it's okay if I don't agree with it.”“You need to be exactly where your audience is and you need to be in tune with that. I think one of the challenges today is that we try to serve a whole bunch of different masters and we think we have to be on every single platform to be successful.”Connect with AJhttps://www.instagram.com/aj_vaden/https://freebrandcall.com/torigordon/YOU are invited to Join me each month for 75 minutes of virtual breathwork JULY 13th @ 4:00pm PST! Reputation Revolution: Stand up, stand out, make your mark!

THIS SOLO EPISODE DIGS DEEPER INTO THE HOT TOPIC OF -- "Should you focus on building your personal brand, or business brand?" It follows on from the previous episode (#221) in which brand strategist, Sam Osborn, content coach, Brendan Keogh, and I discussed this topic, albeit in quite broad terms. However, I felt there was unfinished business. I subsequently blogged about the topic and had conversations with people on LinkedIn and Twitter. I put my thinking cap on. I went for long walks to gain additional clarity around the subject. Here I was: I'd been neck-deep in the PR and marketing arena for many years now; I'd advised countless individuals – entrepreneurs, professional experts and thought leaders – on both their personal and business brands, But I felt I hadn't sufficiently come to any real concrete conclusions to this common issue. It had always been, in my instance anyway, a case by case proposition, depending on who I was talking to at the time, and what their particular circumstances were. Until now. I decided the best way to help people better understand this branding conundrum and thus have greater clarity as to which strategy would work best for them - 'personal brand vs business brand' - was to provide real-life examples of people who had already gone a fair way down the path, and then unpack their respective situation. Which is what I have done in this episode. I hope you get value from it! REPUTATION REVOLUTION is brought to you by Credible Authority Academy.

Brand Builders works with a wide variety of clients. They have worked with  New York Times best-selling authors. The majority of their clients are in professional services of some type- entrepreneurs, independent consultants, business owners, coaches, trainers, real estate agents, etc. Rory shares the mission of Brand Builders to be helping people find their uniqueness and differentiate themselves from that perspective rather than through the filter of what others are doing.  What is the podcast Rory is running for Success Magazine? Success Line Podcast is free coaching calls with Rory. Info for how to apply is provided in the Resources Mentioned section.  How do you break through the noise with your brand? Rory's wife is the CEO of BrandBuilders and led a year long, nationwide research study on trends in personal branding. Rory shares some data points that have not been released yet. Are you more likely to trust someone who has an established personal brand? Rory shares how they can stratify and segment data based on generations.  82% of Americans agree that companies are more influential if their founder or executives have a personal brand that they know about, trust, and follow. Rory talks about the example of Glenn Sanford and eXp realty. Tristan reiterates the importance of one on one focus and ability to relate to brands especially on social media. Rory talks about struggling with sharing the little intimate details of his personal life on social media. He frames a new perspective by asking -Who is your favorite celebrity? If you could have full access to an entire day of their life, what would you say? Although we aren't celebrities, people want to know the person behind what they see. A revenue building engine is an automated digital ecosystem around personal brand that pumps content out into the universe without taking a person's time. How does Brand Builders create a content marketing strategy? Rory explains how they focus on creating fans not just purchasers and making a difference. Do you spend a lot of your mental energy on choosing the right hashtags, constructing your home page for opt-ins, and conversions? There is nothing wrong with any of that. Rory gives some advice to spend more time focusing on trust. When are people ready to buy? How do you create systems that capture them? Rory shares how he utilizes his feed versus his story on Instagram. The problem is never giving away too much and then they won't buy. The problem is you didn't give away enough and they aren't coming back. What is one of the best prospecting mechanisms on social media? Want to know more about the dark side of personal branding? What about the ways in which you might be ruining your personal brand? Here are 5 ways you may be ruining your personal brand.Maybe you are doing some of these things and don't realize they are actually hurting your brand. Jump on in and see how you can stop doing this and start seeing results. You Don't Have a StrategyEvery successful brand you see has a strategy. No one is just crossing their fingers that the things they are doing in business are just going to work. Even if we allowed for some serendipitous moments in our business, that's really not a long term strategy.Every business that is growing has a strategy behind it. They have systems in place that get their future clients to start thinking about their problems differently and showing them that perhaps their company has the solution. They are coming up with ways to engage and serve their current clients at a higher level. With different offerings and ways to work with them. All of this is a strategy. All of the content and marketing that they are doing has a purpose. Posting everyday is not a strategy. If you are not leading your audience along on a journey, if you are just posting for posting's sake, that's going to make your business run in circles and get you nowhere. If you do not have a clear understanding of the what and why behind the content you're creating, you are not going to get to where you want to go. The simpler your strategy is, the better. Make sure to understand and be intentional with the content you are creating in order to help convert your audience from passive listeners to active customers. You Don't Know Your AudienceIf you are speaking to everyone, no one is going to listen. I absolutely love working with my one on one clients to get down to the core of who their audience is. Everytime we are able to go just a little bit deeper. Sometimes you think that you know your audience, but if you're not getting feedback from people saying that they are loving your content, then you aren't getting specific enough with your audience. You can always, always go deeper in understanding who it is that you are trying to serve and speak to.When you know your audience, everything in your business changes. You can then cater your offers to them, speak to them on a whole new level, create content that turns them into raving fans and more! You Are Confusing Your CustomersIf I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times….a confused client doesn't buy.Confusion on the simplest level can really hurt your brand. Which is why I teach you how to have brand consistency in your content and visuals in my online course, Brand Builder's Bootcamp. If you're constantly confusing your audience by not being consistent with your message and visuals they will seek out a more clear and consistent brand. You Are Copying Other PeopleThis can show up in a few different ways. The first is that you are copying someone else's content and posting it directly on your page. Even if you have permission and/or give credit to them, this is not helping your business. It is setting them up as the brand authority and taking that authority away from you. Another way is copying other people's ideas or content and presenting it as your own. Not only is this in bad taste, but it's taking away your power and your authority in the field. Content is no longer king, original content is. So trust yourself, step into power and create your own original content out of your own origiJoin The Content CollectiveThe answer behind: "What do I post today?"
