Rick and Clark discuss the Bible and Christianity with respect for those who have questions or who disagree with their positions.
We have looked at quite a few passages from the books of Daniel and Revelation and now we're going to look at some of Jesus' own words from the gospels related to end times events. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
These "Bowl Judgments" in Revelation are the most catastrophic in a series of awful judgments brought about on the face of the earth just prior to Christ's return. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com

We start to get into the different views about end times events. What are they and when do scholars think they may take place? How should we respond if we aren't certain about the order or the timing of certain events? Web: ww.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
Oh boy, if there's a topic we're approaching with fear and trepidation, it's this one. There is a LOT written about end times, and there's a lot of misunderstanding and controversy. We'd like to start this season by admitting that we don't know a lot about this topic, and yet it's one that we should all be learning about since the Bible says so much about it. We'll talk about how we'd like to approach this season so you'll get a feel for what we think are the important purposes that guide our discussions. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
Another discussion about the kinds of interruptions that can cause trials in our lives and how God becomes a redemptive force to turn those trials into character development, bringing good out of not so good circumstances. Here's one of the fruit of the Spirit that we all need to work on! Rick and Clark look at the attribute of patience through a biblical lens and see how God's patience toward us factors into our own ability to develop patience. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
In this season looking at the Fruit of the Spirit, we're focusing on each of the nine character qualities seen in Galatians 5:22-23. Today we'll look at peace. The second of the 9 "Fruit of the Spirit" as listed in Galatians 5:22-23 is Joy. We'll talk about that today. Where is it found? How can you find it if you've lost it? How do you remain joyful even when your circumstances are crummy? Is that even possible? Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
This season we're looking at how the character qualities of Jesus (a.k.a. the Fruit of the Spirit) are fleshed out in His followers in real life situations. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
Here's another supercharged third rail word issue. We'll try our best to present our thoughts with as much compassion and honesty as possible. This episode might be one of the highest voltage "third rail word" episodes we've done to date. It's because we're discussing what we believe to be a biblical understanding of homosexuality. As always, we seek to be compassionate and respectful in our approach and we hope to present the gospel clearly as part of our message. Here's a link to the article we mention in this podcast: https://youtu.be/rxTPtmNLiXc And here's a link to Kevin DeYoung's book, "What does the Bible really teach about homosexuality?" https://www.amazon.com/Bible-Really-Teach-about-Homosexuality/dp/1433549379/ref=sr_1_1?crid=MH0N07WEBHF&keywords=what+the+bible+actually+says+about+homosexuality+kevin+deyoung&sprefix=what+the+bible+actually+says+about+homosexuality+kevin+deyoung%2Caps%2C535&sr=8-1
How does an overzealous attitude effect the fruit of a believer? And how does a pursuit of righteousness affect our fervor for politics? Find out in this episode. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
Here's a second approach to interpreting the portions of the Old Testament where it appears that God has ordered the killing of every man, woman and child in a particular area. In this episode we look at the literary genre known as the Near East Battle Story which may help us understand what was going on in these tough to understand passages. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
Some have called God some nasty names. Because of some Old Testament passages, some have concluded that if there is a God, He is a genocidal tyrant, saying that He is capricious, cruel, and unfair. We're going to look at some reasons why God's patience, mercy and just nature come through as we see the context for these passages in the Old Testament, and as we see what He did for everyone who will repent by sending His only Son to die in their place. More New Age concepts that have crept into the church. Web: mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com/
We continue where we left off in Episode 9-A as we look at a list of concepts that have been creeping into the Church in the past few decades. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
As part of this season about false teachings, Rick and Clark discuss how certain New Age concepts have crept into the church. It's helpful to know what they are so we can recognize them as we evaluate all we do in the church according to Scripture and avoid allowing "new age creep." Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.com
We discuss several of the values professed by self-proclaimed progressive Christians and we respond to them, hopefully, as we always hope, in a spirit of compassion and love, even though we're aware that many will differ in their opinion about some of our responses. Here's a link to the trailer for the movie, "Jesus Revolution" that we refer to at the end of this episode. This movie is scheduled to release shortly after the beginning of 2023. https://youtu.be/_zxKvpDx0R4
In our last episode (8-A) we set up how we want to approach this third rail word, and why it's important that we see the history behind it, as well as the compassion and love that motivates our discussions associated with it. Today we will look at how this concept is affecting the political world. Next week, we'll see how the third rail word affects theology and the Church. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
We are going to talk about a word that can trigger all kinds of controversial reactions so before we do, we want to spend an episode talking about where we're coming from, how we're going to approach the word, and reveal our motives as we talk about some tough stuff. Web: https://mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
Here's an increasingly popular false teaching among skeptics. Some claim that the Bible itself can prove that there was no virgin birth of Jesus Christ. We're going to look at that in this important episode, and we're going to discover why the miraculous conception of Jesus is vital to the Christian faith. Here's a link to the article by Dr. Spencer Gear that we mentioned: https://www.truthchallenge.one/blog/2020/12/25/no-virgin-birth-in-the-apostle-pauls-writings/ And here's a link to one of the articles on gotquestions.org that we also cited: https://www.gotquestions.org/virgin-birth.html And here's our website: https://mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com/
Rick and Clark look at why it's theologically important that Jesus was irrefutably dead in the tomb, before he rose again and appeared to witnesses. Some still cling to theories like the "Swoon Theory," and we'll talk about why they still insist on hanging on to theories like that when the evidence is overwhelming against a mere "swoon." Here's a link to John Piper's message we reference in this episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_Cu74gdo7M Resources for further study are available here: https://mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com/
Does the Bible tell us that God has not destined us for wrath? If so, what does that mean? How does justice enter into the discussion about God's love? Rick and Clark will discuss this important false teaching (that God won't pour out His wrath), because it's really popular these days for people to want God to be all loving, without any of the wrath the Bible talks about. Here's a link to the skit Rick talks about. It, and other skits on the website are available for free: https://mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com/skits2 And here's a link to the article we reference, written by Pastor Bobby Cabonce: http://thereisnoothername.com/gods-wrath-will-be-poured-out-on-the-earth/
We're wrapping up our look at what we would miss if there were no resurrection. As we finish out this look at the resurrection, we'll look at three vital issues related to the resurrection and we'll also offer a way for you to respond to Christ's invitation to accept his resurrection power in your life. Here's a link to the article from which we got our outline for this 3-part episode. We appreciate Tom Smith's approach to this subject and want to acknowledge that we borrowed heavily from his article. https://holdingtotruth.com/2016/03/24/12-great-matters-wed-miss-if-there-were-no-resurrection/ Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
We pick up where we left off from Part 1 in our list of 12 great big things we would miss if there were no resurrection. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
In this series about false teachings (Season 5) we explore twelve great big things we would miss if there were no resurrection (6 in part 1, 6 more in part 2), especially the resurrection of Jesus Christ. These 12 big things show how vital the resurrection is to the Christian faith and why it's at the core of the gospel, including the gospel message the eyewitnesses of the risen Jesus spread far and wide, even though it meant severe consequences to them. Web: www.mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com
Season 5 is dedicated to talking about false teachings. Today we're looking at the notion that there might be a universe with no heaven and no hell (as John Lennon asked us to imagine in a song). Is it biblical to think that God will simply forgive everyone, regardless of their desire to be with Him in eternity? Is it logical to think that God will be a just God if he doesn't punish sin that hasn't been atoned for? These and other questions help us answer the main question, "Is it possible for there to be no heaven and no hell?" Web: mondayafternoontheologians.podia.com/ Email: mondayafternoontheologians@gmail.com
As we discuss false teachings, we need to start with the most basic, "Sin is okay." That's really the original sin, since it began with a choice to listen to Satan's lie, "You can't take God at his word. You can do what He says is wrong, without suffering any serious consequences." That lie continues to drive a great deal of sinful attitudes and behavior and we need to call it out, since we care about those who can rightly be called "sinners" (we are sinners, too), and since we want to point to the solution to Sin, so sinners can be forgiven and can avoid those awful consequences that rightly fall on those who sin. In this episode we'll lay the foundation for Season Five. In this season we're going to look at several common false teachings, but in order to do that, we have to compare the false teachings with a true worldview, which is why in this episode we'll look at eight character qualities found in a biblical worldview. Rick and Clark talk about two more elements of invalid worldviews in this final episode of Season 14 and our entry level look at apologetics. They also provide a short list of additional elements that you might want to look into as you increase your vocabulary of terms related to apologetics issues.
