Give to help Chris make Truce Ronald Reagan's economic policies, often referred to as “Reaganomics,” were based on supply-side economics. His administration focused on reducing the role of government in the economy by cutting taxes, especially for corporations and high-income individuals, with the belief that this would stimulate investment, job creation, and overall economic growth. The Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981 was a cornerstone of this approach, slashing income tax rates across the board. Reagan also prioritized deregulation, aiming to reduce government oversight in industries such as banking, energy, and transportation, under the idea that less regulation would foster greater business efficiency and innovation. At the same time, Reagan significantly increased defense spending while aiming to cut domestic programs, which contributed to a substantial rise in the federal budget deficit. While the economy experienced a period of strong growth and declining inflation during his presidency—especially after the early 1980s recession—critics argue that the benefits were unevenly distributed. Income inequality widened, and the national debt tripled by the end of his two terms. So... was it worth it? Who benefited from his programs? And what does that say about us as a nation? In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, Tom Smith is joined by Kieron Allen, an industry analyst and AI observer, who shares insights from the 2026 AI Agent & Copilot Summit NA in San Diego. Together, they unpack major themes from the event, including agent orchestration, workforce reskilling, MCP's enterprise impact, and the evolving human-AI partnership. Key Takeaways Human + AI Orchestration Is the New Core Skill: Allen underscores that orchestration is not just about technology—it's about people managing AI systems effectively. Humans have to view agents as part of the workforce. This means employees must develop skills to coordinate, supervise, and optimize AI agents, treating them as collaborators rather than tools. The ability to orchestrate multiple agents will become a defining competency in modern organizations. Reskilling Must Address Culture and Collaboration One of Allen's strongest points is that reskilling goes beyond technical training. “We need to understand the AI… not just the tools, but also the cultural elements.” Organizations must prepare employees to work alongside AI, interpret outputs, and adapt workflows. This includes fostering trust in AI systems, redefining job roles, and building a culture that embraces continuous learning and collaboration with intelligent agents. MCP is Unlocking Massive Enterprise Efficiency: Smith highlights MCP as a breakthrough, describing it as a “USB-type connector” between AI and enterprise systems. With up to “650,000 actions” now automatable in Dynamics 365, MCP dramatically reduces manual effort. This standard simplifies integration across platforms, accelerates deployment, and enables scalable automation—making it a cornerstone for organizations looking to operationalize AI at scale. Customer-Centric AI Learning is Accelerating Adoption: Allen observes that many professionals are attending the conference not just for internal use, but because “they're attending this conference… for their customers.” This reflects a shift where AI literacy is becoming essential for delivering value externally. Businesses are recognizing that understanding AI enables them to better anticipate client needs, create new offerings, and remain competitive. Visit Cloud Wars for more.

In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, host Tom Smith speaks with Vaishali Vinay, Data Scientist at Microsoft, and Raghav Bhatta, Data Scientist at Microsoft, about their upcoming masterclass at the 2026 AI Agent & Copilot Summit NA in San Diego. They discuss how AI can serve as a threat research partner for cybersecurity teams, augmenting human expertise in threat hunting and detection engineering while helping organizations proactively defend against increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks. Key Takeaways AI as a Threat Research Partner: Vinay explains that traditional threat hunting and detection engineering have historically been highly manual processes requiring significant time and expertise. AI can now assist by analyzing attacker behavior and identifying detection opportunities faster. As Vinay notes, the goal is to augment our human experts and accelerate this threat research process much faster. Scaling Cyber Defense in an AI-Powered Threat Landscape: Bhatta highlights that as AI adoption grows across industries, the volume of data and potential attack vectors increases rapidly. Organizations must therefore adapt AI for defensive purposes as well. “The amount of data which is produced… is increasing at a nonlinear scale,” Bhatta explains. AI copilots help defenders process this scale by assisting with detection engineering, threat hunting, and proactive defense strategies that protect infrastructure and customers from evolving cyber threats. Capturing and Sharing ‘Tribal Knowledge' Through AI: Cybersecurity often depends on the deep experience of veteran researchers who understand attacker behavior patterns. Bhatta suggests AI copilots can help scale that expertise across teams. He explains that copilots can serve as a “source of tribal knowledge,” enabling newer analysts and teams to leverage insights that historically lived only in the heads of experienced researchers. This dramatically increases productivity and knowledge transfer within security organizations. AI Attackers vs. AI Defenders: The session also acknowledges that cyber attackers are increasingly leveraging AI themselves. That makes defensive innovation essential. Vinay and Bhatta emphasize the importance of building AI systems that analyze attack techniques and automatically recommend detection rules. This dynamic defense model enables security teams to react faster to emerging threats and reduces the manual workload traditionally required to understand complex attack patterns. This episode also appears as a video episode on our YouTube channel, you can find it here: "Kyla Moscovich Trumpet Interview" And, find the expanded show notes, transcript and more photos here   At a year old she had a trumpet in her hands, and she hasn't looked back since!   Kyla Moscovich has built a burgeoning career that bridges classical, jazz and pop music, performing concerts all over the world and, more recently, developing her studio skills as well, on Grammy-nominated records.   She has studied with Vincent Penzarella, Mark Gould, Laurie Frink and Tom Smith, was mentored by Jon Faddis, and was on stage at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens.   Kyla's father was close friends with Bob Reeves, and so her potential and trajectory was apparent around the shop from very early days. But, as we talk about today, the trumpet was not necessarily an automatic pursuit.   Kyla struggled to balance the expectations of practice and studying music with friends and normal kid activities, as any kid would, and we talk about what it was like growing up in that kind of environment, making the "jump into adulthood" earlier than most of us have.   Our conversation today is a fascinating glimpse into how to build a modern career in the music industry playing trumpet, not to mention how to pursue your own musical tastes, and forge a path that's true to you.   About Kyla Moscovich: Growing up in New York City, Kyla got her training from the Manhattan School of Music, studying Orchestral Performance and Arranging.   After graduating with her undergraduate degree, she quickly entered into the studio space where she began writing, recording, and arranging, while taking her knowledge of harmony and sound and applying it to her unique musical fingerprint, which can be heard on many world renowned records. Now based in Los Angeles, multi Grammy nominated writer/arranger Kyla has become one of the most sought-after horn producers, collaborating with artists such as J. Cole, Drake, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Victoria Monét, Céline Dion, Diana Ross, and more.   Episode Links: Website Instagram @kyla_moscovich Kyla on Just For The Record   Bob Reeves Brass Upcoming Events and Appearances: Dillon Music, Feb. 26-28, Woodbridge, New Jersey sales@dillonmusic.com National Trumpet Festival, March 20-22, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA https://trumpetmouthpiece.com/products/national-trumpet-competition-valve-alignment-special Metropolitan Music, April 10-11, Seattle, WA https://calendly.com/bobreevesbrass/metropolitan-music-valve-alignment-appointment  Arkansas Trumpet Day, April 18th, Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AR   Podcast Credits: "A Room with a View" - composed and performed by Howie Shear Podcast Host - John Snell Cover Photo Credit - Courtesy Kyla Moscovich Audio Engineer - Ted Cragg

When 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home, investigators were quickly faced with blood evidence and ransom claims that did not align with standard abduction patterns. In this episode of Zone 7, Sheryl McCollum, retired NYPD homicide detectives Dan Murphy and Tom Smith, and forensic pathologist Dr. Priya Banerjee assess why blood at the scene, a prolonged presence inside the home, and Nancy’s medical vulnerabilities undermine the ransom narrative. The panel also examines investigative decisions and evidence handling that may shape accountability. For those looking to catch up further as the situation develops, additional coverage and updates can be found on Crime Stories with Nancy Grace. Highlights: • (0:00) Sheryl McCollum welcomes listeners, introduces the Nancy Guthrie case, and brings in Dan Murphy, Tom Smith, and Dr. Priya Banerjee • (1:30) Savannah Guthrie’s early silence and why not using her platform immediately raised concern • (2:15) Blood at the scene, smashed cameras, and why this should have been treated as an abduction from the start • (4:15) Interior crime scenes, early release, and how evidence integrity can be compromised • (4:45) Dr. Priya Banerjee on age, blood thinners, cardiac disease, and stress-related death • (7:15) The 41-minute timeline inside the home and why it defies kidnapping patterns • (8:30) Delayed ransom demands, media involvement, and why the timing doesn’t track • (12:15) Lights left on inside the house and behavior inconsistent with covert abduction • (13:30) Bitcoin ransom logic and why mixed-payment demands raise red flags • (14:15) A robbery-gone-wrong scenario and what happens if the victim recognizes the offenders • (16:15) Chronic pain, medication dependency, and why prolonged captivity is medically unlikely • (19:00) Family video statements, proof-of-life questions, and linguistics shifts investigators notice • (21:00) Reactionary law enforcement activity and repeated returns to the scene • (24:30) Pacemakers, Apple Watch connectivity, and what technology may still reveal • (28:30) Leadership optics, media interference, and the impact of active investigations • (36:45) Reward amounts, chain of custody concerns, and courtroom implications • (41:30) Final thoughts from the panel on recovery efforts, investigative outlook, accountability, and why Sheryl believes it was never about the money Guest Bio: Dr. Priya Banerjee is a board-certified forensic pathologist with extensive experience in death investigation, clinical forensics, and courtroom testimony. In 1990, New York City was a place many Americans were afraid to enter, let alone police. More than 2,600 homicides in a single year, open-air drug markets, violent subway platforms and neighborhoods ruled by fear defined daily life. What followed would become one of the most debated eras in modern policing — aggressive enforcement strategies, the expansion of stop, question and frisk, and a leadership-driven push to reclaim the streets. Decades later, those years are still argued in classrooms, courtrooms and police roll calls across the country. On this episode of the Policing Matters podcast, host Jim Dudley is joined by NYPD Detective Tom Smith, who lived that history from the inside. Smith joined the department in 1990 and was assigned to West Harlem's 30th Precinct, one of the city's busiest and most dangerous commands at the time. From anti-crime plainclothes work and gun arrests to major narcotics investigations, DEA task force operations and a post-9/11 deployment to Afghanistan, Smith's career spans local street enforcement and international investigations. He shares what policing looked like before the crime drop, how leadership and coordinated prosecution mattered, and what today's officers face in a very different New York City. PREVIEW — Clare Jackson — Prince Charles and the Duke of Buckingham's Secret Spanish Bride Mission. Jacksondetails an "extraordinary" historical episode wherein Prince Charles and the Duke of Buckingham, operating under the transparent disguises of "Jack" and "Tom Smith," clandestinely traveled to Spain to negotiate a Catholic marriage alliance and secure a bride for the English royal succession, thereby resolving sectarian religious conflicts between Protestant England and Catholic Spain. Jackson documents that this dramatic act defied fundamental diplomatic etiquette and negotiation protocols, shocking Spanish royal authorities and effectively imprisoning the English princes in Madrid for approximately six months while political fallout ensued, representing a rare instance of direct royal intervention in diplomatic negotiations transcending conventional ambassadorial channels.

In the process of getting ready to participate the Filker Song Swap "Cover to Cover: volume 3" various artists albums (organized by fellow Fump artist Madison Metricula Roberts), the randomizer happened to choose that I should cover a song by fellow Fump artist Tom Smith. I was given a choice of 2 songs, but of course I picked the one that is a parody of a song from my favorite musical, "The Pirates of Penzance" by Gilbert and Sullivan (the original song being officially entitled "Oh Better Far to Live and Die" but probably better known as "Pirate King"). Anyway, you should really look up the Filker Song Swap albums as well! They're on Bandcamp and several other locations. And then I asked Luke Ski for help getting a group of people together to do backing vocals, but he did such a good job on them by himself that I no longer felt an entire group was needed! And in case you somehow didn't figure this out, the subject matter of the song is Jack Skellington, the lead character of the 1993 Tim Burton stop-motion Halloween film "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Instrumental (real accordion and a Suzuki Andes 25F recorder keyboard!!), mixing and mastering by the wonderful Joe Jakubowski. Lyrics by Tom Smith. Lead vocals by Carrie Dahlby.
