Welcome to the 26th sermon in our series on the books of 1 & 2 Samuel. In the books of 1&2 Samuel, God grants his people a king, but it doesn't go the way they think it will go. Power is something every person craves, but does it ever deliver what we hope it will deliver? In God's story, power is a crucible that enables, lifts up, reveals and exposes. It is God's to grant and ours to either steward or worship…one leads to life, the other to destruction. Join us through the books of 1&2 Samuel as we look at the stories of prophets, kings and peasants being shaped and formed by God's crucible of power.

Welcome to the 3rd sermon in our series on the joy, hope, and peace that our perfect King is bringing. (3 of 3) What does it look like to wait for Christ our King? Advent is the first season of the Christian liturgical calendar. Just like the Israelites in the Old Testament were commanded to celebrate certain holidays at various times of the year to remember what God had done, the early Church began a yearly cycle of regular remembering. Each time they met together they read Scripture, explained and applied what had been read, sang songs, broke bread together, and gave of tithes and offerings ‘so that none had need.' In the 4th century they began to formally associate each season with certain parts of Scripture so that they could move through the entire story of Scripture each year. Advent became a retelling of the Old Testament focusing on the coming of the Messiah. So it is in this season that we celebrate the coming of Jesus and anticipate his return. Join us for the next few weeks as we focus on the joy, hope, and peace that our perfect King is bringing to earth.

Welcome to the 6th sermon in our series on how the kingdom of heaven that Jesus introduced grew in the church in Colossae. What were the problems? The distractions? The errors and the successes? What can we learn from the early church as they committed themselves to living out the teachings of Jesus while resting in the salvation of Jesus? As a local church called “Refuge,” we need this reminder now more than ever. It's an exciting time, but we can become easily distracted. So let's take a walk through Colossians 2 and remind ourselves the deepest calling of the people of God.
