"SIN IS A CREEPER" ~ A study of Nehemiah chapter 13 of the Bible from TEAM PERFORMANCE COACHING

Creepers in the game of Minecraft are one of the slowest enemies I have ever played against. You can see them from a mile away slowly bouncing there way towards you. When they finally reach you they start to blow up giving you plenty of time to runaway. When I first saw this enemy I laughed out loud at the stupidity of such an enemy...until one killed me. When in enemy is that much of a creeper you get sidetracked with what you are working on and you forget to keep checking that the enemy has not creeped up next to you. I can think of no better example of how sin creeps up in our life to blow our life up. In Nehemiah chapter 13 we should be seeing a triumphant ending to a book that has brought back the mighty nation of Israel. Instead we see that sin has creeped into the camp in three different ways and the book ends with a thud as Nehemiah looks up to God and basically says, "I tried." Use this book as an example in your own life to make sure your life does not get blown up by a creeping sin. THIS WAS A LIVESTREAM, thank you for checking it out in case you missed it live. The book of Nehemiah gives us a lot of leadership principles throughout. • Nehemiah shows us servant leadership in chapters 1-4 o Servant Leadership – is different from traditional leadership because the main focus of the leader is a thriving company or organization. • In chapters 4-6 in the book of Nehemiah we see the leadership principle of emotional intelligence as he deals with the challenges of enemies from the outside and the inside attacking. • In chapters 7-10 we see the new commitment to understand the past, learn from the past, lament, confess, document, and then put into action new habits to make sure they do not repeat the past. o They move the anchors to create real change moving forward. This brings us to chapter 11, as we look at this chapter the key points are around: “How to build an effective team” • Check out this video for key principles in building an effective team. In chapter 8 the people had asked Ezra to bring out the book of the law and read it them. As he read it, they were convicted by the law. In chapter 9 they were studying scriptures again which lead to more confession and repentance. As we get to chapter 10, they have been studying, confessed, and committed to God, now it was time for their actions to follow their words. Rick Lopez is the Assistant Superintendent of Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) in Orange County, California, as well as an adjunct professor at Hope Lutheran University. He shares the core values of PYLUSD, as well as their onboarding process. Onboarding is about how you bring people into your organization. This is a lost art in the workplace and one of the most important things we can do as an organization. The better we are at onboarding, the more profitable, effective, and happy we will be. Onboarding starts at your job description, interview, application process...far before you even bring the new member to the team! Onboarding is about how you are celebrating a new employee and the way you continue to celebrate great moments! Onboarding well, shows in how you interview and follow up immediately with candidates that are treating this process as a life change. Be intentional with how you onboard based on who you are. As Mr. Lopez shows, they onboard with this in mind. When onboarding we look for Humble, Hungry (self-starter, initiative), and Smarts (more than education, it is about people). We look for Excellence, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation. People are giving us their most precious treasure (their children)...we need to keep this in mind as we onboard the best of the best in this organization and do it well. Do we all in our organizations, onboard as if this is the most important thing we do? Onboarding keys: #1 Celebrate moments #2 Connect everyone with a Mentor Partner #3 Check in often ~ the highest level leaders to the lowest level worker ~ stay connected #4 Make the process of growth and promotion obvious for people to follow Integrate ~ Elevate ~ Celebrate --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/david-hopper3/support

Team Performance Coaching ~ "Boasting business, non-profits, & good companies to be great companies." Performance coaching is not therapy. It is not about salvaging under-performers. It's not even always about making people feel good - in fact, often it's tough medicine. But it is delivered in the context of a relationship where there is hight trust and mutual respect. To be successful, it requires a high degree of commitment from both participants. And it has to show results. As we read Matthew 25:31-46 we come across some of the most challenging scriptures in the Bible. These scriptures are not hard in their actions or interpretation, but rather in our eyes being open to the time it takes to do them. In this first podcast, I wanted to take us down a journey to why God calls us to "The Least of These." Who is He talking about, why does He care about this, and how can we do this on a daily basis. Thank you for taking the time to listen to Team Performance Coaching as we attempt to help churches, non-profits, and businesses move from being good to great and do even greater things for the Kingdom of God. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/david-hopper3/support
