TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. Husband and Wife answer questions about performative prayer, curses, kicking Tobiah outta the temple, and drawing lots to live in Jerusalem. Husband and Wife answer questions about timelines and cups. Did the stories of Nehemiah and Ezra overlap? Who knows. It's all a history mystery. But we do find out the importance of being a king's cup bearer, which clears up another question! Finally, we learn that Nehemiah might be the Chronicler, but he was such a gossipy sumbitch that his coworkers wouldn't let him take any credit. Welcome back to Reading with Ben! Let's continue the lecture on the book of Nehemiah . This is episode #04 chapters 07 & 08. Nehemiah Chapter 07, Then it was, when the wall was built and I had hung the doors, when the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed, that I gave the charge of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the leader of the citadel, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many. Nehemiah Chapter 08, Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded Israel. So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month. Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/benlopezra/support
Welcome back to Reading with Ben! Let's continue the lecture on the book of Nehemiah. This is episode #03 chapters 05 & 06. Nehemiah chapter 5, For there were those who said, “We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain, that we may eat and live.” There were also some who said, “We have mortgaged our lands and vineyards and houses, that we might buy grain because of the famine.” There were also those who said, “We have borrowed money for the king's tax on our lands and vineyards. Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery. It is not in our power to redeem them, for other men have our lands and vineyards.” Nehemiah chapter 6, Now it happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall, and that there were no breaks left in it (though at that time I had not hung the doors in the gates), that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together among the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they thought to do me harm. So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?” But they sent me this message four times, and I answered them in the same manner. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/benlopezra/support

Welcome back to Reading with Ben! Let's continue the lecture on the book of Nehemiah. This is episode #02 chapters 01 & 02. Nehemiah chapter 3, Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests and built the Sheep Gate; they consecrated it and hung its doors. They built as far as the Tower of the Hundred, and consecrated it, then as far as the Tower of Hananel. Next to Eliashib the men of Jericho built. And next to them Zaccur the son of Imri built. Nehemiah chapter 4, But it so happened, when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, that he was furious and very indignant, and mocked the Jews. And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish; stones that are burned?” Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall.” --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/benlopezra/support
The walls are built, and the people are moving into Jerusalem to live safely behind the new walls. Things are going exactly to plan. And then Ezra reads the law. He reads the Pentateuch for 6 hours as the people stand and listen. And what happened next will shock you, but it will also remind you of the power of hearing scripture and how simply hearing God's words can change a life and a whole culture. To follow along, read Nehemiah Chapters 7 - 12.

God's Word declares that God's people are to be different. We are to be unique. We are not to act the same as the rest of the world. We are not to think the same or to value the same things as the rest of the world. But how do we do this and why does it even matter? Answering these questions gets to the heart of our understanding about what it means to be God's people. Who determines who are the people of God? Is it simply acting a certain way? Attending certain events and rituals? We are in a sermon series called "God at Work" where we are looking at the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. Throughout these books we see that God is at work. As we look at Nehemiah Chapters 7 and 8 in a sermon called "A Peculiar People," we see that God's work shapes God's people. It is God's work, and only God's work, that makes us the people of God. We see that God's people are called by Him, shaped by Him through His Word, and are people who celebrate the amazing things God has done.

This is the forth and last in a series, through the book of Nehemiah.--Nehemiah the rebuilder---He was appointed and prepared by God to bring about the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem and restoring the true worship of Jehovah, 71 years after the second temple had been built.--Many parallels can be seen in Nehemiah's work, and that of our Lord.--Much instruction for the church of God in a day when her walls are broken down and the remnant is small, despised and in great affliction.--Nehemiah Chapters 4-6 - Completing the rebuilding---So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.- -Nehemiah 6-15---1- Note what form the opposition to building took.-2- Note some providential helps to the rebuilders.-3- The course taken to rebuild in the face of opposition.

The wall is done, God rebuilt the wall...why does the book continue? If this was a movie, we would have this awesome dramatic ending with a huge celebration and the credits rolling. the Bible is based on real stories that have all the good, the bad, and the ugly. As we read through the Bible, not every story has a happy ending and we get to see the gambit of emotions and experiences in the midst of struggle and victories. God helps us build, but more importantly God helps us maintain. This chapter shows us how God has taught us to maintain and hear his voice daily. NEHEMIAH chapter 6...When the enemy attacks! In this chapter the attack comes from 4 different angels and there is 3 keys to overcome it. As we look at an early book of the Bible called Nehemiah we find a great roadmap for leadership. Nehemiah Chapters 4 & 6 are showing emotional intelligence leadership against an outside foe. Nehemiah Chapter 5 shows emotional intelligence leadership, when the conflict comes from within the organization. Nehemiah Chapter 6 tells how to overcome the multiple attacks from the enemy. November 9 & 10, 2019 Lead Pastor, Bobby Parschauer It doesn’t take much to get off track. Since God is faithful and we are not so much, God gave us the group for our good. It keeps us moving in the right direction. After “repairing the breach”, Nehemiah and Ezra rebuild the community and it becomes a protection for this remnant nation. Let’s see the specifics on how we can benefit when we lean into community.
October 26 & 27, 2019 Lead Pastor, Bobby Parschauer Satan is already defeated, but he would love to wreck you. There is an invisible war and the story of Nehemiah reveals the tactics of the enemy. The walls are completed, but the gates are not yet hung! This weekend we will talk about how we can “close the gates” on our enemy.
In this episode of Finding His Voice, Nehemiah tells of how he organized the singers to give praise in the House of God and he chastised the Levites who had married foreign women and allowed them to distract the men from the work of the Lord. The Apostles are doing the work of the Lord as they are filled with the Spirit of the Holy Ghost. No man is ever found in need because Barnabas, a Levite, sold his land and brought the money to the Apostles and laid it at their feet. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/testimonies/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/testimonies/support
October 5 & 6, 2019 Lead Pastor, Bobby Parschauer If you are like me, I don’t like to be totally honest with myself, or others. I can tend to skew the facts a little to make things seem better than they are. In the roadmap to rebuilding broken down walls, Nehemiah, after stopping and praying for four months, finally decides at great risk to be honest with himself and the King. The results are amazing!!

In this episode of Finding His Voice the Children of Israel are gathered from all corners of the nation and assigned their duties to the House of God as the Temple is rebuilt. Peter and John are thrown into prison for healing the man who was lame, and they are told not to preach the name of Jesus anymore. Peter, speaking with the power of the Holy Spirit said, "Ye rulers of the people and elders of Israel, if we be examined of the good deed we have done by which this man was made whole, be it known to all of you that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth whom God raised from the dead, by Him doth this man stand here before you whole." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/testimonies/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/testimonies/support

Peter says, "Silver and gld have I none, but what I do have I will give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." This week Kaitlin and Katie continue Cross-generational bridge building, as they talk about the benefits of collaboration over competition. They share collaborative adventures they have been a part of and encourage listeners to link up, shoulder-to-shoulder, with co-laborers in their cities and communities. #bettertogether Writers, inspirations and sites referenced: http://goinswriter.com/blog/ http://sweetteallc.co/podcast/ (Kirsten Thompson) ourcityonahill.net Babes Who Blog (public community group) at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1005191676256263/ Book of Nehemiah Chapters 1-4 Try and make it to the end, because the lightening round is always a hoot! They try to keep it to 3 questions, cultural, spiritual and relational and each answer from their generations. You never know what will come out of their mouths but it is always surprising in the best sort of way:) Disclaimer: Kaitlin and Katie both agreed that if this podcast was ever going to actually happen, it was going to have to be relatively spontaneous and pretty much unedited:) They are taking the journey alongside you. It is messy at times but real and completely unscripted prior to deciding on a topic and then plopping down on the couch to unwind and catch up, taking you along for the ride. 46 and 24 really do have so much to learn from and love about one another! #thesearethemoments Hopefully these conversations will encourage you to link up with someone from another generation and share the gift of presence! They would love your feedback and would love to know some of your answers to the lightening round questions as well. This is community and Lord knows we need each other! This is a grace place, where you are welcomed with open, wobbly, all-in arms!
