On today's episode, Alan talks with church planting guru Peyton Jones about how planting and leading churches needs to become more team-driven and team-empowered. About Peyton I started in Huntington Beach at a megachurch, then went to Wales, and served as the evangelist at Lloyd-Jones's church Sandfields, and started planting churches in public spaces, like Starbucks. Returning back to the States, I planted a multiplying church in downtown Long Beach. I founded New Breed Church Planting Network which continues to train front-line 1st century style apostolic church planters, and the rest is history. I've served in collegiate campus churches, rural and urban churches, legacy churches, churches in public space…you name it. In a box, with a fox, I have planted Sam I am. Some of the things I've done over the years that may help you: Wrote a few books: Church Plantology: The Art and Science of Planting Churches, Church Zero: Raising 1st Century Churches From the Ashes of the 21st Century Church, and Reaching The Unreached: Becoming Raiders of the Lost Art. Started two of the biggest church planting podcasts - Hardcore Church Planting and The Church Planter Podcast. Co-founded Church Planter Magazine. Hired by Mac Lake, I revamped the Send Network Training, and produced professional training videos. Oversaw church planter training for the Western U.S. for the Send Network. Stayed married all this time, and adopted two beautiful girls. Once swatted five with one blow on a video game no one plays anymore. It was epic. You shoulda seen it. My goal in life is to expand your mind to think like believers in the 1st century did, and like church leaders in the Developing World, Western Europe, and Persecuted Church have to. That's what drives me in the morning… I'd like to think it's part-caffeine, and mostly Holy Spirit.” Connect with Peyton Books Website Facebook Level your leadership this fall Take your next step this fall with coaching Invest in your leadership by joining free Right Side Up Community Receive weekly leadership tweaks with Tuesday Tuneup Upstream Campaign

There are moments in our lives that just change us. One of those moments for me (Derek, the creator of Lost and Found Podcast) was in 2006 when I listened to Jeff Christopherson present something he called Kingdom Matrix at a conference in Keller, Tx. Perhaps Jeff being a fellow Canuck played into it, but Jeff, as only he can do, gave pictures and graphics and language to a conversation I suspected God was having with his church. The status quo was not working. As Jeff says, we need a new kind of church led my a new kind of leader or missionary and a new level of collaboration among churches for mission. Since that fateful day in 2006 my thinking on missional engagement has been forever changed.Jeff is writes a blog, Missio Mondays for Christianity Today, and has authored three books: Kingdom Matrix, Kingdom First and Venal Dogmatta. An expanded edition of Kingdom Matrix is now available with a study guide by Mac Lake. You can order these books from Amazon by clicking on highlighted the links. Our Guest: Jeff ChristophersonThe most significant thing to know about Jeff is not what he does, but who he is. Jeff Christopherson is a man of substance and character. Devoted Jesus follower, faithful husband and dad, loving son, loyal friend are descriptions of who Jeff is. He is a brilliant missiologist who, in his thinking, serves out of his weakness in God's strength. Biggest Takeaways You Don't Want To Miss: Leadership Development is biblical. While ‘leadership development’ in churches has become a cottage industry over the past 30 years, developing leaders is a task seen in both the Old Testament and New Testament. Leadership Development is rooted in discipleship. In churches, not all discipleship is leadership development. But all leadership development in the church is discipleship. Mentoring is the most simple and sustainable way to develop leaders. Model the work you want others to do. Work alongside of them. Then step aside and let them take on the work themselves. Developing leaders is the lifeblood of a healthy church. Not only does it keep you from carrying the burden of leadership yourself, you ignite a critical aspect of discipleship for the men and women in your church. Are You Healthy? Grab Our FREE Assessment And Find Out. Matt’s conversation with Dan is a reminder that resilience is critical if you want to maintain your spiritual vitality.
