This episode is a 2 parter for me. In the first 22ish minutes we talk about the policy, how it came about, and how Lyft is working with the Justice Department to stamp out discrimination. In the second part we go over ways I minimize toxicity coming from myself, including creating my own mental health bank. I hope you enjoy the episode and take at least one thing away from it that helps you bring more positive outcomes in your own life.

In 2021 I am perplexed by the amount of effort some are willing to put into a collective activity, but how little effort they put into their individual day to day situation. I guess it's easier (psychologically) to fail at the collective activity then try and come up short on their individual efforts. These collective efforts made drastically more sense in a time when the number of on-demand companies was far fewer (like just 2 or 3). But we live in a time where there are atleast 5-7 different companies to contract with and not a single one asks for any loyalty.

When it comes to earning money in the gig economy there is the easy way and the hard way. Most gig contractors today complaining about earnings are doing things the hard way. They are limiting their earning possibilities by only driving for 1 or 2 gig companies as well as doing other earning limiting activities. In this episode we talk about increasing earnings through diversification, taking time off, and leveraging gig companies own technology against them.

I know this episode is sure to piss some people off, but quite frankly I really don't give a fuck. It costs us nothing to be decent human beings and help some people out (within reason). If you're miserable doing rideshare, don't take it out on the elderly or people with limited mobility.

The mask debate heats up as both Uber and Lyft create company policies for drivers and riders. There is little doubt that everyone around the globe has been affected by COVID-19 in one way or another. Starting May 18th, 2020 Uber is “requiring” all platform users to wear masks while on a ride. Lyft has created a similar policy as well. This is undoubtably in response to the plummeting ride volume and the need for users to feel safe enough to start requesting rides again. Want more content? 'Knowing where you fit into the big picture of the gig economy has been how I continue evolving as a misfit. You see, it's not that I am looking to “break the rules”. It's more like I understand my relationship with the companies I contract with and leverage everything possible to benefit me.' Why does understanding who these companies are matter? Because as a contractor it is YOUR responsibility to know who you are contracted with, how that company benefits YOU, and when its time to end that contract. You see, if you understand what Uber is doing as a business, you have already come to terms with the fact that they don't give a fuck about you, or me, or anyone other than their shareholders (which is how they should be). Coming to terms with the reality of our relationship with a company gives you incentive to figure out ways to make the platform work for you as best as you can.
