"We did this survey with a third-party consulting group who talked to 2,000 brokers. Their perception was that 25% of bills are going to be balance bills; it's actually 3%."Is Reference-Based Pricing (RBP) still something that just creates endless problems for HR?My guest this week is Jeff Bak, CEO of Imagine360. Jeff brings 30 years of healthcare and private equity experience to the table, and he's leading the charge to rebrand and evolve RBP from a defensive "pay and defend" model into a comprehensive, full-stack alternative health plan.In this episode, we tackle the persistent broker misconceptions surrounding RBP, dissecting exactly why the actual balance bill rate is closer to 3% while plan savings average over 20%. We also explore how Imagine360 blends RBP with strategic direct hospital contracts (like Baylor and Northwestern) to give employees a seamless "PPO-like" experience without the inflated PPO price tag. Jeff also breaks down the reality of the No Surprises Act (NSA) and Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, and why hospitals are currently winning the majority of those arbitration cases. If you are a benefits consultant or an employer looking to truly break away from the traditional "BUCA" networks, while ensuring your employees aren't stranded with unmanageable balance bills, this conversation is the reality check you need.Thank you to our 2026 sponsors!ParetoHealth: ParetoHealth empowers midsize employers with a long-term solution to reduce volatility and lower overall health benefits costs. Wir reden über die englische Wrong-Com "Alice und Jack" bei Disney+ und die Frage, warum Romantik-Serien derzeit so überaus beliebt sind. Dafür vergleichen wir zwei aktuelle Hit-Serien bei Prime Video: "Every Year After" und "Off Campus".

And every year feels like you're starting over again.Rick is joined by financial strategist Mike Milligan for a conversation that goes far beyond taxes, investments, and retirement accounts. Because money isn't just about numbers. It's about choices. Freedom. Time. Family. The goal isn't maximizing income. It's maximizing options. Together, he and Rick unpack why most people wait too long to plan, why retirement has changed completely, and why money can either create fear or create freedom depending on how intentional you are with it.In this interview you'll learn:Why taxes should be a year-round strategy instead of a once-a-year eventThe hidden difference between making money and keeping itHow retirement has changed from an ending into a new chapterWhy location, lifestyle, and taxes all affect what your money is actually worthHow intentional planning creates more freedom than simply earning more incomeFollow Rick's Socials:Instagram | LinkedIn | RickJordan.TV

She was telling me about her new business, property management, right here on the coast—already built one business before, sold it, retired, and now she's back. In this episode: why the quiet period feels like a surprise every single time even though you've been through it before, what most businesses do in the busy months that creates the problem later, the decision that determines whether your busy season actually builds something, and the one conversation from a board meeting that changed how I think about all of it. There's a town in Texas called Round Top. Population eighty-seven. One square mile. And in that town, an artist named John Lowry sold a single painting for $141,500. (We toured his gallery on YouTube — link's right there in his name. Watch it before or after this episode.) That's the headline. Here's the part nobody tells you: he then sold roughly $60,000 more in reproductions of that same image. Same painting. Different mediums, different sizes, different price points. One image, two hundred grand. That is not luck. That is not a once-in-a-lifetime fluke. That is a system. And the same system is what Gray Malin uses to run a 4,156-SKU catalog with 221 variants of certain images. The same system is what Wyland — yes, that Wyland — uses to sell 972 products across 45 different mediums, raising prices roughly 10% a year for the last sixteen years. This episode deconstructs the engine that makes all of that possible. Print on Demand and the sample ladder aren't two ideas. They're one engine. The artists at the top of this business have figured that out. Most artists haven't. We're going to fix that today. But first — a quick rant about what gets in the way. In this episode: The $141,500 painting in a town of 87 people — and why the second sale is the lesson The knife salesman pivot: why Print on Demand is a sample tool first, a profit tool second Hobbyist or business? The honest question every artist has to answer The Drain — four ideas clogging up most art businesses (you can't run a business / you can't run sales or marketing campaigns / you can't be perceived a certain way / never discount your work) — and why every pro you admire threw all four of them out Why we study the masters: you studied Van Gogh and Ansel Adams in art school. Time to study the people doing it best in the business of art. Gray Malin, deconstructed: 4,156 SKUs, 16-year escalator, 221 variants of single images. What an artist with a real engine looks like under the hood. Wyland, deconstructed: 972 products across 45 mediums. The 10%-a-year price escalator that compounds for decades. The catalog as a museum gift shop. The Range Unlock: your catalog isn't N images. It's N images × M mediums × P price points. Most artists are sitting on 100x more inventory than they think. Same image. Every price point. Why this is the single most important sentence in your art business. The bottom rung IS the sample: a $20 mug isn't a giveaway, it's a customer-acquisition machine wearing a price tag The Buc-ee's flex: how the cheap stuff at the front door funds the expensive stuff at the back wall John Lowry, the customer mirror: an Art Storefronts customer in a one-square-mile Texas town doing exactly what Malin and Wyland do — at his scale. Proof this isn't a billionaire-only game. (Watch the full studio tour on YouTube.) "You don't sell JPEGs" — the Brooks rant about why a digital file is not a product, and what the pros actually sell How the Six Basics from The Long Game show up — receipt by receipt — in all three of these businesses The artichoke storage room (you'll know what this means by the end) This week's homework: audit your own catalog the way we just audited Malin and Wyland. Take your top 5 best-selling images. Count how many mediums you currently offer them in. Count how many price points. Now ask: could I responsibly add three more variants of each, this week, with Print on Demand? If the answer is yes — and it almost always is — you just found revenue you already earned but haven't collected yet. Resources mentioned: John Lowry of Humble Donkey Studio — the full video tour on YouTube (the original 2024 interview referenced throughout this episode) Humble Donkey Studio — John Lowry's website Humble Donkey on Instagram Gray Malin — the catalog we deconstruct Wyland — the other catalog we deconstruct Art Storefronts — the website + storefront engine built for working artists Related episodes: Why Your Website Will Still Be Working in 2055 — The Long Game (the parent episode this one builds on) Humble Donkey Studio — the original John Lowry interview, July 2024 All Oars In — The Anatomy of a Sale Nothing New Under the Sun — The Rules That Actually Sell Art So: which 78-year-old version of yourself wins? The one still asking what to post on social media, or the one running a real engine — same image, every price point, compounding every year? You don't have to be in a billionaire's neighborhood to do this. You can be in Round Top, Texas. Population 87. The engine doesn't care where you live. It cares whether you build it.

Episode 35 is a conversation with one of the psychedelic world's true elders: Adele Getty, author, philanthropist, and co-founder of Limina Foundation. Adele's life story weaves together decades of ceremony, community, and consciousness exploration. Adele traces her fascination with plant medicine all the way back to 1957, when, at age seven, she devoured a 15-page Life Magaze spread on Gordon Wasson and Maria Sabina that quietly shaped the entire arc of her life. After her first curated LSD experience in 1968, Adele made a personal commitment to take the medicine once a year and use it as a kind of annual self-audit,  a practice she has maintained for over five decades. Adele shares what it was like to marry Francis Huxley, Aldous Huxley's nephew, in 1986, including intimate stories of Nobel Prize winners, the Bloomsbury set, and how the relationship deepened her understanding of psychedelics as a tool for navigating life's most challenging passages, including the end of the marriage and the death of Francis. From Native American teachers like Sun Bear and Grandmother Evelyn Eaton, to Leo Zeff and Ralph Metzner, Adele reflects on how she wove together multiple lineages and offers a thoughtful take on cultural appropriation, encouraging people to find their own authentic ceremonial voice. Adele shares tender memories of the recently passed underground guide Ricci Coddington, including Ricci's dream about Leo Zeff in her final year. She also reflects on her role as a founding member of the Guild of Guides and her longtime advocacy for non-directive, space-holding approaches to psychedelic facilitation. Adele discusses the wildly successful Santa Fe event she produced, the Enchanted State,  that raised over $100,000 for New Mexico's emerging psilocybin landscape, and closes with a hopeful vision rooted in Limina Foundation's mission that psychedelics could serve as a rare unifying force across political divides, with a recent poll showing 70% of Americans, regardless of party, supporting access to these medicines for those who need them. Thank you for listening. Thank you for supporting the podcast and our psychedelic elders. And thank you for taking the time to click the five stars or the thumbs up so that others might stumble across it and benefit as well. I so appreciate it!   Adele Getty Bio: Adele Getty Elder, Wisdom Keeper, Psychedelic Educator Adele Getty is a pioneering voice in psychedelic education, known for decades of work exploring the sacred, cultural, and psychological dimensions of psychedelic healing. A founding member of the Guild of Guides, she has helped shape the field of assisted psychedelic work with deep integrity and cross-cultural wisdom. Her books, including A Sense of the Sacred and Goddess: Mother of Living Nature, explore ceremony, matrifocal history, and rites of passage. Widely respected as an elder and wisdom keeper, her recent keynote at the 2023 MAPS Conference received a standing ovation. Adele's work continues to guide a deeper, more grounded psychedelic future. Today, Dan talks about his experience at an investing workshop and explains how frustrating it is when the industry knows how to make a diversified portfolio, and that those portfolios would perform better than many of the products they offer, yet most investors come into PWI offices with a portfolio that is overweighted in large U.S. companies. Listen along to hear how the industry uses ratings, short-term past performance, and other emotional sales pitches to sell you yet another large U.S. fund, and why investors get sucked into investing in your “team” instead of taking an academic approach. Later in the episode, Evan brings a WSJ article about how investors who invested in private credit funds are losing big now that these private companies are defaulting on their loans.    Want to cut through the myths about retirement income and learn evidence-based strategies backed by over a century of data? From tax strategy and alternative investments to insurance, estate planning, and building the right professional team, Andrew outlines a comprehensive “Protect, Grow, Manage” framework that high-net-worth individuals can use as a checklist for building—and keeping—wealth. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to close the gaps in their financial strategy and take a more proactive, holistic approach to wealth.Key TakeawaysWealth management goes beyond investing — it includes protection, tax strategy, estate planning, and team coordination.Insurance and asset protection are often overlooked, yet they're the fastest way to lose wealth if done incorrectly.A proper estate plan (especially a revocable trust) is critical to avoid probate and protect your legacy.High-net-worth investors should diversify beyond stocks and bonds into alternative assets like real estate, private credit, and more.Proactive tax planning can save significant money, but most CPAs are reactive unless pushed or supported by a strategist.Your financial professionals must work together — lack of coordination creates costly gaps and inefficiencies.Connect with MichaelFacebookInstagramYouTubeTikTokResourcesTheFreedomPodcast.com Access the #1 FREE Apartment Investing Course (Apartments 101)Schedule a Free Strategy Session with Michael's Team of AdvisorsExplore Michael's Mentoring ProgramJoin the Nighthawk Equity Investor ClubReview the Podcast on Apple PodcastsSyndicated Deal AnalyzerGet the Book, Financial Freedom with Real Estate Investing by Michael BlankFor full episode show notes visit: https://themichaelblank.com/podcasts/session520/
