Jesus told us to love our enemies—Which is much easier said than done. Who exactly are our enemies? What is Jesus asking from us? Our speaker, Thomas Guryan, helps us define who our enemies and neighbors are, and gives practical tips to move from hate or enmity to the love that Jesus talks about.
Based on Matthew 5, plus some personal experience, Pastor Chris Bacon proposes this big idea: "Participate, don't retaliate," and gives practical advice on creating peace in your life by participating in the way of Jesus and not paying back an insult.
We continue to read Matthew 5 as Pastor Isaac exposes what makes our word count: Honesty—plus all the reasons we could have for not being honest with ourselves and the world.
Jesus talked about lust. So did we. Pastor Isaac unravels the topic of lust, sex, adultery, and even divorce to expose what Jesus was pointing out: Behaviors that reveal the disconnect between our bodies and souls.
Pastor Isaac leads a reflection on conflict, and explains how the way we deal with conflict in our relationships exposes the state of our hearts toward God and people.
Pastor Isaac explores the question, "How do you relate to God?" and exposes how our different answers to this question can change our relationships inside God's Kingdom.
Pastor Isaac leads a reflection on Matthew 5:1-12, demonstrating how happiness can be found in the picture and the promise of the Kingdom of God.
Pastor Isaac leads a reflection on Matthew 4:17-25, demonstrating how being a disciple of Jesus is about a journey that requires commitment and endurance, as opposed to the glamorous destination.
Patience is against our nature. So what do we do while we wait for something? Whether it's a career or school opportunity, a relationship, or a direction of what comes next, do we believe God hasn't forgotten about us? Tyler Reagin leads a reflection on what to do while you wait.
To wrap up our series, Messy Church, Pastor Isaac Trevino reflects on the foundation of the gospel–Jesus Christ and his resurrection, and how this revelation has the power to make broken things whole.
Religion has taught us that the mark of spiritual maturity is gifting. However, Paul clarified long ago in 1 Corinthians how love is what we should aim for. Britt Nelson walks us through the famous passage in 1 Corinthians 13 to teach us the way we should show love in the body of Christ.
Finding unity in the world we live in is not easy. It can actually be very messy. There is so much we must give up, but also so much to gain. Pastor Korey Deck reads 1 Corinthians and invites us to reflect on humility as a means to find unity.
As Christians, we want to seek unity in the body of Christ. With that in mind, how can we still have theological discussions? How can we navigate important issues we see in our culture when our opinions are different? Pastor Isaac explores these questions with a simple and yet, complex answer: Jesus is LORD is the only hurdle.
From the time that Paul wrote to the church in Corinth until today, there is something about the Kingdom of God that remains relevant and true: In Christ, we win by losing. Our good friend, Jarian Felton, exposes how victory in Christ means the loss of our preferences and selfish desires.
While looking at life and culture through a Christ-centered view, where do we draw the line for our freedom? If Christianity is not simply a rule book of Do's and Don'ts, how do we navigate our freedom in Christ while loving His people? Pastor Isaac answers these questions and more in this message of our series Messy Church.
Maybe you grew up with a great example of a healthy marriage. Maybe you didn't. What we know is that marriage can get messy. Where is God in this mess, and what is His wish for humanity, communicated through Paul in 1 Corinthians? Pastor Korey reflects on how marriage will not make you happier but holier.
In our culture today, being single is perceived as a punishment, as less of a gift than being married. Pastor Isaac leads a reflection on how singleness is just as unique to God as marriage, along with advice on how to enjoy your time as a single person, not taking for granted this God-given gift.
Continuing our reading of 1 Corinthians, Pastor Doug Hankins leads a reflection on the unhealthy relationships that we build by associating with people for our self-validation. He calls this "Idolatry of Self." But God has something different to tell us about who we are and who we should put our expectations on.
In the first episode of our series, Messy Church, Pastor Isaac leads a reflection on 1 Corinthians, pointing out the things that create messiness and division in the church. Apostle Paul knew back then what we know now: Christians who choose to live in the flesh, that is, in a spiritually immature way, cause division and hurt in the church body.
If not through internet life hacks, where can we find real wisdom? How can we live our lives while having Christ as the center? We start the series "Messy Church" by observing how Paul advised the church in Corinth to find wisdom–One that we can live by. By applying the wisdom of God, we move forward from the messy "me" centered living to the Christ-driven life.
When things don't go our way in life, the dissatisfaction will often leave us wishing for whatever comes next. But is happiness always just in the future, one step away? How can we experience happiness right now, during a hard time? This is the reflection that Pastor Isaac teaches in the last message of our series, "Help!"
Over the course of this sermon series, we have been learning ways that we can depend and participate in God's help in our lives. Our guest, Alec Brockell, helps us reflect on the ways that God helps us; Not just for our own benefit, but so that we can help others around us.
As followers of Christ, we have the opportunity to find community with others, but also the responsibility to be the ones who build a place of belonging, of inclusion and invitation. Pastor Korey Deck invites us to reflect on transforming the "about me" to "about us," and transforming the world around us into a world of love and belonging.
God meets our needs: Including our physical needs. Food, safety, shelter. God is present and visible in our natural world just as much as He is in our spiritual world. Our special guests, Jarian and Shawna Felton, and Britt Nelson, share their own stories and experiences of how God met their needs and provided help in different circumstances.
