20201 Vital Plan & Coffee for Heart Health Podcast | Dare To Be Vital BookFIVE PRIMARY POINTS of the PODCAST1. Vitamin D Dramatically Reduces Heart Attack RiskNew American Heart Association data shows that maintaining vitamin D levels >40 ng/mL for ~4 years cuts recurrent heart attack risk by 52%. Most participants required 5,000 IU/day—far above the current FDA recommendation—to reach optimal levels, making vitamin D testing and personalized supplementation a critical and cost-effective intervention.2. Structured Exercise Improves Cancer SurvivalA large randomized trial in colorectal cancer patients found 90% survival with structured exercise vs. 83% with health education alone (a 42% relative reduction in mortality). Supervised and behaviorally supported exercise—not just information—is required to produce this survival advantage.3. Exercise Should Be Prescribed as Medicine for Cancer PatientsThe transcript highlights mechanisms—myokines, reduced inflammation, better fitness, and increased natural killer cell activity—that explain why exercise reduces cancer mortality. Recommendation: oncologists should prescribe personalized strength and fitness programs as part of cancer care.4. Exercise Is One of the Most Powerful Sleep OptimizersA study of 380 medical students showed:* Low physical activity = poor sleep quality* Being overweight or stressed worsens sleep* Strength training is the most effective exercise modality for improving sleep. The message: Use movement—especially strength training—to break the “doom loop” of poor sleep and inactivity.5. Vitality Is a Skill: Small Daily Choices CompoundThe episode reinforces two overarching themes:* Vitality is a skill you can learn, practice, and improve.* Vitality powers performance—especially through the synergy of exercise, sleep, vitamin D, strength, and connection. The weekly action: Get your vitamin D level checked and optimize it with guidance from your doctor.Copyright VyVerse LLC, All Rights Reserved This is a public episode. Discover an incredible story of survival and thriving on the Heal Yourself podcast as I interview 84-year-old John A. Brink, who went from surviving Nazi-occupied Holland to becoming a CEO, philanthropist and the oldest competitive bodybuilder in North America. John reveals his secrets to health, longevity and a powerful mindset, including the daily routines and diet that keep him thriving and why he considers his late-in-life ADHD diagnosis a "superpower." This is a must-listen for inspiration on resilience, health and aging without fear.Time Stamps 11:04 A Daily Gratitude Mindset: John starts every day at 5:30 AM by going outside and declaring, "I'm in paradise." He emphasizes that counting his blessings and maintaining a positive, grateful attitude is a critical part of his mental and emotional wellness.13:55 A Life-Threatening Wake-Up Call: A severe case of diverticulitis in 2008 became a major turning point for his health. The condition breached, causing toxins to spread and his doctor later told him he "came this close" to death. He took this as a "message" to get serious about his health.15:17 Proactive Diet Transformation: Following his health crisis, John became more proactive, adopting his wife's more vegetarian-focused lifestyle and moving from an "80/20" to a "90/10" approach to healthy eating.15:41 Embracing Fitness in His Late 60s: John became serious about personal fitness. He hired a trainer and began working out 3-4 times a week, proving it's never too late to start. This new passion eventually led him to bodybuilding.23:34 Finding His "Superpower" in ADHD: At age 62, John discovered a book called "Driven to Distraction" and realized he had ADHD. Instead of seeing it as a liability (which had caused him to fail school), he reframed it as his "superpower," crediting it for his strategic thinking and success.26:34 The Importance of Downtime: John schedules downtime and flies to Vancouver Island every Friday afternoon to spend the weekend relaxing with his wife and their seven horses, emphasizing that recovery is crucial.31:52 Overcoming Addiction: John shares that in 1992, his wife "hit him with a 2x4 across the head" (metaphorically) and "dumped him" as a wake-up call. This event prompted him to stop drinking, smoking and taking prescribed Xanax all within one week.36:48 John's tip for healthy ageing is to understand your body and have a good mindset.John's Bio Born in 1940 in Nazi-occupied Holland, John A. Brink survived war, hunger, and hardship before emigrating to Canada in 1965 with just $25.47. He founded Brink Forest Products in 1975, now North America's leading value-added wood manufacturer. At 84, he leads the Brink Group of Companies and hosts ON THE BRINK, a top 1% global podcast. A fierce advocate for ADHD awareness, John is also a philanthropist, pledging $1M to the College of New Caledonia. In this episode of The Health Fix Podcast, Dr. Jannine Krause sits down with Dr. Nathan Bryan, a leading researcher in nitric oxide (NO) and molecular medicine, to explore how this essential molecule impacts vascular health, chronic disease prevention, sexual health, and aging. Dr. Bryan explains how nitric oxide is one of the body's most powerful signaling molecules—regulating blood flow, reducing inflammation, and supporting energy and performance at every age. He shares insights from over two decades of nitric oxide research, including his pioneering discoveries on how NO deficiency contributes to hypertension, inflammation, and sexual dysfunction in both men and women. They discuss why diet alone isn't enough to maintain optimal nitric oxide levels in today's world, how modern agriculture has stripped essential nutrients from our food, and how targeted supplementation and topical applications are helping restore balance and improve health outcomes. You'll also hear about the latest breakthroughs in nitric oxide therapy, including clinical results from Bryan Therapeutics, Inc. (BTI) and how innovative NO-based treatments are transforming care for heart disease, Alzheimer's, and chronic wounds. Whether you're interested in longevity, inflammation reduction, sexual health, or simply optimizing your circulation and recovery, this episode reveals why nitric oxide may be the missing link in your wellness strategy. What You'll Learn In This Episode: How nitric oxide drives circulation, vitality, and disease prevention and why most people are unknowingly deficient. The real reason inflammation and high blood pressure persist and how restoring nitric oxide balance can turn things around. Why nitric oxide matters for sexual and skin health and how aging and modern diets deplete your natural supply. Breakthrough nitric oxide therapies and supplements — what the research shows and how to choose what actually works.   Resources From The Show: Dr. Nathan Bryan is an international leader in nitric oxide biochemistry and molecular medicine. He was the first to identify nitrite and nitrate as indispensable nutrients for cardiovascular health and discovered the endocrine function of nitric oxide via the formation of S-nitrosoglutathione and inorganic nitrite. He has published numerous highly cited scientific papers, authored six books, and led multiple clinical trials validating nitric oxide-based therapies. Dr. Bryan is also the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Bryan Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company developing nitric oxide drugs for heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetic ulcers, and wound healing. His consumer nitric oxide products can be found at N1O1.com, NO2U.com, and on Amazon.

In this episode of the Glowing Older podcast, host Nancy Griffin interviews Dr. Kerry Burnight, a gerontologist and author of JoySpan: The Art and Science of Thriving in Life's Second Half. They discuss the concept of "JoySpan," which emphasizes the importance of quality of life over mere longevity. Dr. Burnight introduces her four-pronged matrix for thriving in later life: Grow, Connect, Adapt, and Give. The conversation also touches on overcoming internalized ageism and the significance of maintaining a growth mindset as we age.About KerryDr. Kerry Burnight is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author and nationally recognized gerontologist whose life's work celebrates the gift of growing older. For eighteen years, Professor Burnight taught Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at the University of California, Irvine, and co-founded the nation's first Elder Abuse Forensic Center.Known as America's Gerontologist, she blends science with soul by translating cutting-edge longevity research into practical, heart-centered ways to live with vitality, connection, and purpose. Building upon the lifespan and healthspan literature, she coined the term joyspan - the quality of a long life.  The joysan framework is a proven approach to deepening love, curiosity, vitality, and meaning.Kerry Burnight's work has been featured in The New York Times, CBS Mornings, Oprah Daily, NBC News, Time Magazine, BBC, and CNN. Growing older is not the end of your story, it is the fullest expression of it.Key TakeawaysFocusing too much on longevity can neglect quality of life. Many older adults live long and stay healthy yet still feel unhappy. The American Psychological Association defines joy as “a feeling of extreme gladness, delight, or exaltation of the spirit arising from a sense of well-being or satisfaction”. Joy is not about being happy all the time—it's a deeper sense of contentment. Unlike happiness, which often depends on external circumstances, joy is rooted in well-being and internal satisfaction. The four-pronged matrix for JoySpan is Grow, Connect, Adapt, and Give. Curiosity is the catalyst of growth.Research shows that genetics will predict less than 25 % of how we age. As you get older, you care less about others' opinions and gain stronger emotional regulation, with fewer intense ups and downs. There's more appreciation for beauty, relationships, ordinary pleasures, humility, andspirituality. Aging also boosts integration between brain hemispheres, offering improved problem solving and deeper self-acceptance.The multi-billion dollar anti-aging industry profits from the “aging is bad” narrative telling us to fear getting older and to use their products to stop aging.

When Logos speaks of these matters, what does “abundant life” or “life to the fullest” actually mean?  What does “the Good life” imply - individually and collectively? How do we experience our divine/human role in the world? What does “participation with the divine nature” (2 Pet. 1:4)  mean in practical terms? How does Eros (spiritual, evolutionary Love-drive, novelty) interact with Divine vocation? How does our longing for communion with Spirit (3 faces of God) play out in daily life, daily activity in our world? Join Luke, Beth and David as we explore this meaningful subject matter!

Join me as I engage in an enlightening conversation with Dr. Prudence Hall, a seasoned gynecologist and obstetrician, as we explore the complexities of midlife transitions and the health challenges women face, particularly during menopause. Dr. Hall shares her decades-long journey of seeking answers and helping women navigate this pivotal stage in life. We discuss how menopause can affect confidence, energy, and relationships, while also increasing the risk of serious health conditions like heart disease and neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Hall explains how factors such as stress, toxicity, and high sugar levels may be contributing to the earlier onset of menopause today. Despite the hurdles, Dr. Hall offers hope, emphasizing the importance of addressing hormonal imbalances and making lifestyle changes to reclaim health and continue thriving. Listen in as we examine the role of lifestyle in promoting healthy aging, highlighting how essential sleep, diet, and stress management are in managing menopause and slowing down the aging process. Practical tips include the benefits of melatonin for better sleep and adopting an anti-inflammatory, low-sugar diet. Feelings of regret can be one of life's heaviest burdens. I'm sure most people have choices and decisions that they've regretted in their lives, and I'm no different. But what I've learned is that regret doesn't have to be a source of suffering; it can be one of our greatest teachers if we let it. In today's episode, I thought I'd share a very personal letter that I recently wrote to my kids about the biggest regrets of my life. Things like all the precious moments that I've missed that I'll never get back, and moving away from loved ones I wish I'd stayed close to. These are the lessons that taught me that family and loved ones should always come first, no matter what. Ultimately, this episode is about learning to release the weight of regret and transform it into wisdom. We can't change the past, but we can use it to shape a more intentional, love-centered future. My hope is that you'll reflect on your own life, forgive yourself for what you can't undo, learn from it, and make different choices moving forward. This way, when you look back on your life, you won't be reliving the past; you'll look back fondly on what matters most. P.S. Clark, is now available for pre-order at MiracleMorningafter50.com. If you're over 50—or have a loved one who is—this book will help to live with purpose and joy in the second half of life.
