“I do live here and now, but I often think about the past. But then again, I think a lot of people do. So I think writers, what are they going to draw on?”Mark Savage speaks to musician Paul McCartney.Born in Liverpool, England, during the Second World War, he found fame as a member of the legendary British band The Beatles in the 1960s, widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in music history.McCartney shared primary singing and songwriting duties with bandmate John Lennon, and along with George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the four-piece became a global pop music sensation with hits such as Twist and Shout, Yesterday and Hey Jude. They remain one of the best-selling musical acts of all time alongside the likes of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.McCartney was knighted for his services to music in 1997, but despite his huge achievements, the 83-year-old seems to be showing no interest in retirement — he's releasing his 19th solo album. The Boys of Dungeon Lane is inspired by his experiences growing up in post-war Liverpool, during which a young McCartney, carrying a guitar and wearing a bowler hat to catch attention, would hitchhike with John Lennon to places as far away as Paris. Longer Songs In this program we feature songs that rarely get played simply because they are too long. Karen and Richard Carpenter departed from their usual style to produce/perform their magnum opus Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft. Michael Jackson's Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and the Eagle's Hotel California are two longer classics. Th highlight of the program is the entire eleven minutes and three parts from that great Aussie front man's Stevie Wright and his epic Evie Parts 1, 2 and 3. The program concludes with one of The Beatle's greatest Hey Jude. This week, Jeremy Daniel preached from Jude 1:17-25, encouraging believers to remain faithful by grounding themselves in God's truth, praying with dependence on Him, and resting in His love and mercy. Jeremy reminded us that perseverance is not ultimately sustained by our strength, but by the God who is able to keep His people and present them blameless before Him.
This week, Pastor John Durham continued our Hey Jude sermon series with a message from Jude 5-15. John reminded us that God's truth must continually be remembered and passed on because people are prone to forget. Through examples of rebellion and judgment throughout Scripture, Jude warns of the danger of false teaching and unrepentant sin, while Pastor John reminded us that our only hope is found in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

This week, Pastor John Durham kicked off our new series Hey Jude with a message from Jude 1-4, reminding us of the beauty and security of our salvation. The truth of the gospel is that Christians have been called by God, fully loved, and eternally kept through Christ. John challenged us to stand firmly on this truth, warning us not to live lives marked by cheap grace.
Tim Schweiger talks about his early days with Yesterday's Kids — how a homemade Everly Brothers pop-punk tape landed them a deal on Ben Weasel's Panic Button Records — and the lessons learned from years of grinding tours, before finding his footing as a solo artist and frequent collaborator with Tommy Stinson of The Replacements.Tim digs into the realities of the modern music industry, the rotating cast of musicians that make up the Middlemen, the joy of slipping covers (Madonna's "Borderline," The Beatles' "Hey Bulldog") into live sets, and talks about an unreleased track featuring Dan McMahon. He also opens up about raising a musically gifted daughter, his 75 voice memos worth of songs waiting to be recorded, upcoming shows in Milwaukee and Madison, and a summer run of dates back on the road with Tommy Stinson.Plus: the Fox Cities band Tim wishes would reunite and what he says makes a show — or a song — truly successful.https://timschweigerandthemiddlemen.bandcamp.com0:00 Introduction & Tim's Background1:11 Coming Out of Hibernation Post-COVID2:14 Yesterday's Kids & The Obsoletes: Are They Done?4:02 Panic Button Records & the Realities of Early Touring4:33 Has Touring Changed? “If you play piano, bass guitar, saxophone, I don't care - I'll play with you all night. That's how I did it. And I tell all my grandkids - get an event, get a few of your schoolmates together. They're practising and playing by themselves. Get with people!”Regan Morris speaks to musician Ringo Starr about his career. Born in Liverpool, England, during the Second World War in 1940, Ringo, real-name Richard Starkey, found fame as the drummer of the legendary British band The Beatles - widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in music history. After joining John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison in 1962, the four-piece became a global pop music sensation through hits such as ‘She Loves You', ‘Yesterday', ‘Penny Lane', and ‘Hey Jude'. They also released multiple studio albums and starred in five major motion pictures.Although the band split up in 1970, their legacy continues to live on. They remain one of the best-selling musical acts of all time over half a century later. And such was his and the band's cultural impact, that Ringo, one of two surviving members of The Beatles, received a knighthood at Buckingham Palace for his services to music in 2018.But despite achieving seemingly all that can be achieved in a music career, the 85-year-old seems to be showing no interest in retirement — he's just released his third country album, which is his 22nd album as a solo artist. Brendan Hunt, a.k.a. Coach Beard on Ted Lasso, is back in his hometown of Chicago to open a one-man show at Steppenwolf Theatre: The Movement You Need. The title comes from “Hey Jude,” and Hunt's subject is how his mother and he bonded over the Beatles amid more troublesome aspects of their relationship. Here we bat around the Beatles and their appeal to parents and kids, all while so little current music sounds like them. Hunt also discusses the motivation and process of creating a one-man show, with Broadway in his sights. This emotionally loaded gig, with its eight performances a week, certainly requires much more talking than the laconic Coach Beard. Hunt reflects on his longtime collaboration with friend Jason Sudeikis; they're Ted Lasso co-creators/co-writers who previously worked together in the Amsterdam-based improv troupe Boom Chicago. Given that Sudeikis and Hunt initially characterized Ted Lasso as a three-part journey, how did they recalibrate to create the upcoming Season 4? (Photo by Robyn Von Swank)
In this episode, Dave and Chris explore the many ways the Beatles end their songs — from dramatic codas and long fade-outs to chaotic jams, unexpected chord shifts, and of course, studio histrionics. The Beatles have many "cool ends" to go along with their "hot starts!" We cover some of the famous endings in tracks like "A Day in the Life," "Hey Jude," "Strawberry Fields Forever," "I Am the Walrus," as well as some tunes that you may not expect. As always, we also discuss the latest Beatles news. Enjoy! Want to purchase any items discussed in this episode? Here are partial lyrics of Hey Jude by The Beatles. You figure out whether there are any parallels out there with our “Hey Jeff”Hey Jude, don't make it bad.Take a sad song and make it better.Remember to let her into your heart,Then you can start to make it better.Hey Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her.The minute you let her under your skin,Then you begin to make it better. And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain,Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. For well you know that it's a fool who plays it coolBy making his world a little colder.Na na na nananana, nannana, hey Jude...In recognition of the importance of The MBA Partners Scholarship in memory of Denise Kaplan initiative, Jeff Clay together with his wife Laurie have laid down a Giving Day challenge for the whole INSEAD community, and one in which it would be wonderful for us the 03D community to play a leading role.If 100 members of the alumni community make a gift to the Partners Scholarship during Giving Day, Jeff will pledge $100,000 of his own to help secure the future of the scholarship and honour Denise's memory. If you like that logic and our approach, do join us!In other words – WE ARE LOOKING FOR 100 PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY TO JOIN, SO HELP US GET THERE!The MBA Partners Scholarship in memory of Denise Kaplan is a beautiful way not only to honor the memory of Denise, but to also help extend the legacy of our class, while showing our support for Mike.As a reminder, we also have an anonymous donor who will match the first 80k euro.Giving Day runs from the 19th to the 26th of March 2026 and offers a simple opportunity for us to come together once again. While larger gifts are always impactful, what matters most is that we take part together as a community. We truly hope 100 of us will come together, so we get Jeff to spend every last cent of his check! To make a gift to The MBA Partners Scholarship in memory of Denise Kaplan follow the link: https://www.insead.edu/alumni/classes/mba-partners-scholarshipTogether we are stronger.

John Kosh in conversation with David Eastaugh https://koshdesign.com/ Kosh is a Multi-Grammy award winning art director and former creative director for Apple Records. In the mid-sixties, he was designer for The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera House, where he produced a gold foil covered program for the anniversary Royal Gala attended by her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. At the age of 22, Kosh was responsible for designing the innovative entry portal to the “Young & Fantastic” avant garde art and sculpture exhibition on The Mall in London's West End. Following his work for The Opera House, he met John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1968 as they had admired his work as art director of Art & Artists magazine. They invited him to meet them one evening at Hammersmith Hospital, where Yoko was recuperating. Shortly thereafter they offered him a desk at Apple Records at 3 Saville Row. His first project was the “War Is Over (if you want it)” Christmas card, which led to the worldwide WAR IS OVER billboard campaign that continues to this day. He designed The Beatles' Get Back picture book with the Let It Be album package, the Abbey Road album cover, John & Yoko's elaborate Wedding Album box set, and Hey Jude. Kosh was one of the few attendees at the Beatles' farewell rooftop concert. While working for Apple Records, he designed Mary Hopkin's Postcard, Billy Preston's That's The Way God Planned It, George Harrison's Radha Krisna Temple and The Plastic Ono Band's, Life With The Lions, plus singles, “Give Peace a Chance”, “Instant Karma”, “Cold Turkey” and “Power To The People.”

Revolution: Prince, the Band, the Era (Backbeat Books, 2025) is a detailed exploration into the era of Prince's most prolific and groundbreaking music made with considerable inspiration and performed by a unique cadre of musicians he gathered and relentlessly drove to be the sonic, visual, and ideological reflection of his evolving vision. Although being the most self-contained, versatile, and prolific artist of his era, Prince reveled in the band, a multi-racial, intergender unit that acted as both family and loyal acolytes that embodied his ethos, expressed his pathos, and lifted him to rarified heights of pop dominance. This is the story of the genre-shifting, multi-media, trailblazing Prince & the Revolution from their humble inception to their precipitous rise in celebrated hit singles, albums, films, and tours to their controversial and shocking demise. The BBC Radio 5 show Great Football Songbook, hosted by Colin Murray and Pat Nevin, welcomed Billy Grant from Beesotted for an in-depth look at the stories behind Brentford's most iconic chants. The episode spent a while talking about the legendary Chomp bar story (read the tale here) – a quirky tradition from the terraces where fans famously threw Chomp chocolate bars onto the pitch celebrating a goal, a playful and chaotic moment that perfectly captured the fun-loving spirit of the Bees' supporters. Billy went into great detail, exploring how this cheap sweet treat became a symbol of terrace mischief and fan camaraderie. But the show wasn't just about songs. Billy also reflected on the character of Brentford as a club. For years, the Bees languished in the lower leagues, often producing middling football. Yet, rather than being a hindrance, this shaped a unique club identity. Matchday activities, terrace rituals, and writing original, tongue-in-cheek songs became central to the fan experience — almost a form of gallows humour that allowed supporters to revel in their passion despite modest results on the pitch.Among the highlights discussed were the origins of “Hey Jude” in the terraces, the curious tale of the “Bus Stop in Hounslow”, and the legendary “Bees Up Fulham Down”. Billy also paid homage to Brentford heroes like Danny Boxhall, explaining why he remains the greatest full-back in the club's history.Through it all, the episode painted a vivid picture of how Brentford fans, and their songs, have helped define the club's personality — proving that football culture is often as much about the terraces as it is about the pitch. The full episode is available to listen back on BBC Sounds. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

On this episode of the California Now Podcast, host Soterios Johnson explores the vibrant, eclectic world of events, celebrations, and festivals in California with three noteworthy guests. First, Johnson chats with Rick Farman and Allen Scott, cofounders of the Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park. Farman and Scott dive into the event's origin story, evolution, and some of their favorite moments over the years. “A big highlight for me personally was in 2013 when we had Paul McCartney headline the festival,” shares Scott. “It felt like most of the festival was there singing, ‘Hey Jude' and I had tears in my eyes.” The two also offer a preview of what attendees can expect this year, including major headliners, immersive art installations, and unexpected features that make Outside Lands a truly San Francisco experience. Beyond the music, the duo highlight the festival's impressive food, wine, and beer offerings. Next, travel journalist Katrina Brown Hunt joins the show to share her list of unusual and entertaining events happening across California this summer and fall. From fruit-themed festivals to offbeat cultural celebrations and epic sporting events, Hunt highlights fun, family-friendly happenings that showcase the state's creativity and character: “Where else are you going to find some good garlic ice cream in the middle of the summer?” Finally, Johnson welcomes Paolo Di Croce, director general and festival organizer for the Terra Madre Americas food festival, a slow food festival making its U.S. debut this September in Sacramento. Di Croce outlines what visitors can expect from the event's first U.S. edition, including hands-on workshops, international tastings, live music, panel discussions, and appearances by celebrity chefs. “The goal is really to be open to learn and to try something different,” says Di Croce.

The world is full of people who will try to get us off course when we make the decision to follow Jesus. It is essential that we study and learn Scripture and that we have godly people around us to help teach and protect us. As Christians, we have the most protection of all because we are held in God's hands.
This week, we don't want to make it bad, so we're going to take a sad song and make it better. The book of Jude may only be one chapter, but it's jam-packed with stuff for this show to talk about. Who wrote it, and when? Who was it written to? What grumblers is it mad about? We'll attempt to answer all these questions and more. Then, speaking of grumblers, we have some of our own to deal with! Whenever Dr. Dan says that the Bible is not a monotheistic book, people come out of the woodwork with scriptures that seem to contradict him. In our final segment, Dan will look at those verses and discuss whether they say what people are saying they say. ---- HEY!
