The Twenty Minute Podcast - 20MP

Whether your working on a crooked light fixture or an old deck, projects don't often go according to plan. This week on the 20mp, Pastor Rich and Tony catch up on their summer projects and discuss how our projects sometimes mimic how we view our faith lives.  

Most people know what it's like to find firework debris scattered around the yard in the days following the 4th of July.  But they are just so fun!  In this episode, Tony and Pastor Rich discuss their 4th of July celebration, neighborhood fireworks, and what it would be like if we celebrated every Sunday with a bang! 

What happens when you put 6 and 7 year olds in front of a microphone and hit the "record" button?  Pastor Rich and Tony are about to find out the hard way.  Here we go! 

This year, we’ve had our share of snow and cold weather.  When everyone else is stuck at home in the middle of a blizzard, where are Pastor Rich and Tony?  In the studio, of course, reminiscing on their childhood snow experiences and making good use of their "snow day"!

This week, Pastor Rich teaches Tony everything he needs to know about the great state of Iowa. Somehow he does it in only 20 minutes! Join the guys for another 20 minutes of fun and random discussion.

Pastor Rich and Tony sit down in this unedited quick release of the 20MP to discuss the events of this past week after a powerful storm destroyed homes, trees, and knocked out power to nearly the entire Cedar Rapids area.  

We’ve all faced choices that have a potentially dangerous outcome. This week, Tony shares details about his recent vacation to Yellowstone and Pastor Rich joins the conversation as they discuss how easy it is for us to foolishly put ourselves in harms way. At the end of their 20 minutes together, the message is clear: “Don’t pet the buffalo!” 

As COVID case number appear to surge across the US, Pastor Rich and Tony discuss the measures that schools are taking to prepare for the return of students.  They also wrestle with the question, "Wouldn't Jesus wear a mask?" but as the guys discuss, they realize that WWJD (what would Jesus do?) might not apply to a specific protective measure.   

A typical Amazon delivery turned into a national news story when one family’s 13 year-old son put some special directions in the “additional delivery instructions” box. Pastor Rich and Tony discuss how well they follow the directions, even when they think no one is watching.

How much time does the average person spend fixing their imperfections so that they look or sound exactly how they want to?  This week on the 20MP, you’ll hear what happens when a simple sound check turns into an real, unedited conversation about…real, unedited conversations.  On average, about 2-4 hours of editing goes into each episode.  This week’s took about 15 minutes. 

As we approach Father's Day, news outlets are reporting that there seems to be a positive impact from fathers spending more time at home with their families.  This causes Tony and Pastor Rich to reflect on experiences with their own fathers as well as being fathers.  

During uncertain times in our world, new studies show that charitable giving is declining.  What motivates people to give their hard-earned money or volunteer valuable time that seems to be in short supply?  Join PASTOR Rich and Tony as they discuss charity and the important role that it plays in our lives.  This episode is a little longer than 20 minutes, but it's worth it! 

For most people, the end of High School closes one chapter of life as they excitedly prepare for the next!  Today, Pastor Rich and Tony sit down with two grads who share about how the end of their senior year in high school was way different than what they ever expected.  Join us for the next 20 minutes as we hear how these grads handled their world being turned upside down.

Sunday is Mother's Day; a time to celebrate the amazing mothers in our lives!  Pastor Rich and Tony welcome a few guests to the show lineup today as King of Kings staff members Ann Mueller, Becky Garms, and Karla Doty join the guys to share their perspective about the blessings and challenges of motherhood.  

The Chia Head, Flex Seal, and the Cuss Collar are only a few of the random things that people might choose to spend their money on.  Pastor Rich and Tony talk about their experiences with As Seen On TV items and how these things don't always deliver on their infomercial promises.  

At a time when people might wish that things could go back to the way they used to be, Pastor Rich and Tony discuss looking toward the future rather than hoping to return to the past. Rich also tries to share another podcast object lesson.  

15 years ago, a video sharing website was launched that would impact culture more than anyone could have imagined.  Pastor Rich and Tony discuss technological advances over the years along with the benefits and challenges that accompany being able to share content with one another so quickly.  Tony also tries to use a slide rule unsuccessfully. 

We've probably all made choices in the past that we would like to go back and change now. Today, Pastor Rich shares a funny story with Tony and the guys discuss an actor's past movie choice and how he feels about it now.  Take a seat in the third chair and join us for the next 20 minutes!

What did worship look like for you this year?  Pastor Rich and Tony reflect on Easter weekend and discuss the various ways that Churches across the country approached the biggest weekend in the church year.  

When did you first view yourself as a grown up?  In this episode, Pastor Rich and Tony spend some time talking about the hard questions that youth are facing at younger ages as well as the role that the Church (the people, not the building!) has in youth ministry. 

Studies show that over the past few weeks, data use through streaming services like Netflix and Hulu has increased greatly.  Pastor Rich and Tony discuss different forms of entertainment, including: binge watching Netflix, birds flying into windows, and GRIT.

Valentine's Day is all about having that "special someone", right?  But even when you're surrounded by people, studies show that feeling lonely is becoming more and more common.  Rich and Tony discuss candy, video games, and encouragement for those who might feel lonely.
