Meghan is joined by Alisa Davis, a writer for LDD's Honey + Lilies blog, to discuss the imprints of other Christian traditions on her LDS worship. Topics Include: - Becoming Comfortable with the Unknown- "Repetitious" Prayers- Rooting Out Unhealthy Cultural Traditions- Salvation based on knowledge vs faith- Cultivating Sacred Spaces and Time- Beautifying WorshipAlisa is a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and lives with her husband and 3 children in the Pacific Northwest. Raised as an Evangelical Alisa became disillusioned with the gospel as it was taught and experienced in her Evangelical environment during a divorce to her first husband. Hungry for a deeper understanding and experience of both spiritual and doctrinal things related to the Gospel, Alisa spent several years in the Hebrew Roots movement studying the Jewishness of the Bible and the Jewish context for the New Testament, and in the Charismatic movement as typified by Bethel Church in Redding CA. Still not satisfied as the Spirit taught her about truths regarding things like the premortal existence and the importance of sacraments - Alisa then found herself in the Episcopal Church of America where she was a member for a decade before joining the Church of Jesus Christ. Now Alisa seeks to use the experiences and lessons learned on her spiritual journey through many versions of Christianity to enrich her own experience and testimony as a member of the Church and loves to share the gifts she gained through those experiences with others. What is God calling the church to be? He isn't calling us to be a “fun” church. He isn't calling us to be a “cool” church. God IS calling us to be a warm, welcoming church. He is calling us to be a healthy church.
Today we begin the season of Christmastide which lasts a full 12 days. Over these next days, we celebrate the miracle of Christ's incarnation through gathering, feasting, rejoicing and worship. The truth that God has come to dwell with us deserves all our praise, so we hope you can find times to express your thanksgiving and adoration of the newborn King this week.

As we are unified in worshipping God, great things can happen with us as a body and in our community. In part two of this discussion on Cornerstone's worship distinctives, Joel and Ryan talk about how being Engaged, Focused, Blended, and Unified will greatly impact us positively for Christ. We must not allow our preferences to overshadow our love for one another and Jesus Christ as we gather corporately for WORSHIP as HIS BODY.Coming together to worship GOD with ONE VOICE as a multi-generational church family is beautiful to God and powerful in our lives. Share this episode with a friend and talk about how working to be unified in our WORSHIP can dramatically affect God's Kingdom for good.
Worship is our whole life in response to God's WORK to SAVE US from our sin. Worship is powerful. Being unified in our worship is ESSENTIAL!This is probably the reason that the enemy targets our worship to be a place of disunity rather than a UNIFIED powerful place to PRAISE JESUS together. As a local church, Cornerstone's Elders have developed our mission and vision, and also a statement on our WORSHIP DISTINCTIVES that are BASED on SCRIPTURE.Of all the podcasts to listen to, this one and the next will be very important for our body life as a family of faith as we walk together with JESUS!Take your time. Slowly work through the 8 statements and the Scriptures attached to each distinctive. CHECK YOUR EMAIL for these documents which will be sent out this week so that we will be ALL READY for Romans 12:1 this SUNDAY!
