When it's extremely difficult to make up your mind. Having the power of choice can actually weaken someone. On this episode we're going to explore our choice to pee or not to pee. Why do some people wait so long? Plus…the choice to spell poorly. It's become amazingly acceptable to throw a bunch of letters together and expect others to understand what you're trying to say. I'm Arroe. Life is a series of choices. Who decides when you're not making it the right choice? Is it the fear of going wrong? One of our favorite interviews from 2025 was with Gabe Henry, author of "Enough is Enuf: Our Failed Attempts to Make English Easier to Spell." The book examines the many ways in which English is an exceptionally difficult language to spell and why- and also chronicles some of the serious attempts over the years to simplify how the language is spelled.

Programa que pone el broche final a la temporada 2025 y, para redondear los homenajes a discos publicados en años terminados en 5, lo dedico al glorioso año de 1965, es decir discos que cumplen nada más y nada menos que 60 años. Send us a textIn this Yuletide episode of the Magick Kitchen Podcast, Leandra Witchwood and Elyse Welles are joined by fiber artist and co-host of the Knit a Spell podcast, Katie Rempe, for a deep and soulful conversation about fiber magic, stitch witchery, and ancestral craft.Together they explore knitting, embroidery, mending, sewing, spinning, and textile arts as ancient magical practices — ways of weaving intention, prayer, and protection directly into everyday life. From blood, sweat, and tears stitched into garments, to repetitive motion as meditation, to crafting as a gateway for intuition and ancestral connection, this episode invites listeners to remember the sacred power held in thread and cloth. The conversation weaves through grief and healing, pandemic-era crafting, reclaiming lost communal arts, ethical making, and how working with fiber can become both spellwork and spiritual refuge. Whether you knit daily or have never picked up a needle, this episode offers a gentle invitation to slow down, listen to your hands, and reconnect with the magic humans have practiced for millennia. The Rebel Mystic Coven is my heart-crafted teaching circle in South-Central Pennsylvania—a sanctuary where curiosity meets mystery and seekers kindle their inner fire. As an Eclectic Coven, we explore a variety of topics and areas of study to help build our awareness, deepen our practices, and develop understanding. A short, spoken invitation calling women who feel the Dark Goddess stirring to step into embodied power through a nine week initiatory journey with ancient goddesses. A sudden confrontation! Having 'sniffed out' a lead, Antistrophe, Brontë, and Caoimhe have dug their way towards the truth. That truth rests in the underground archive of the Hexcloaks' regional headquarters in Cenn, City of Iron Chains. But such a basement does not go unguarded. To arms, Team ABC! This week on Perpetua: In Too Deep 03 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.055] NPCs & Monsters [PNMS] Hortensius, Venomous Hexcloak [NMHR] Traits: Joyful, Experimental, Cruel Stats: DEX 6, INS 10, MIG 6, WLP 10 Attacks: Toxic Whip, Poison Cloud Special Abilities: Heal In-Game Description: A misanthropic hexcloak with a mastery of toxins, venoms, and other poisons. Hortensius may not seem like the most dangerous of the Cenn Hexcloak Trio, but his mastery of poisons means that he can really wear you down (or set you up for another of the trio to knock you out.) Unsurprisingly, he resists poison damage. Starter Tip: Poison Cloud can hit everyone, and it always hits. Get ready to use some tonics! Maxi, Earthen Hexcloak [NMMX] Traits: Tough, Direct, Snobbish Stats: DEX 10, INS 6, MIG 12, WLP 6 Attacks: Stone Maul Special Abilities: Status Immunity, Stoneshield In-Game Description: A Hexcloak soldier who combines expertise of earthen enchantment with finely honed martial prowess. Maxi is proof that sometimes all you need is a big stick. She doesn't have special attacks or active abilities, just a collection of strong defensive passives and a really high Might (which she tends to keep high because of her Status Immunity ability). Starter Tip: She resists both earth and, more importantly, physical damage. Spell damage is your best bet here! Mercurion, Voltaic Hexcloak [NMMR] Traits: Laconic, Rude, Mercurial Stats: DEX 10, INS 10, MIG 6, WLP 6 Attacks: Electrified Dagger, Hexipistol, Fulgur Special Abilities: Flying (Bugged?) In-Game Description: Impudent in speech. Electric in action. Mercurion seems to be the leader of the Cenn Hexcloak Trio, and for good reason. They can dish out big damage QUICK with their Fulgur ability (and it also has a low chance of making you dazed). Try to knock them down even quicker, or else Hortensius' heal will make them a real pain in your behind. Starter Tip: The game says they're flying, and they have a hovering animation, but some people have reported that Mercurion isn't actually flying in their boss fight. So don't worry if it seems broken, it's just a bug!
On this week's episode, Nathan, Chris, and Riley convene one last time to close out 2025, a notably horrible year for the world but a pretty solid one for Aftermath. We begin by talking about a controversy that was unexpected, to say the least: Larian, riding a wave of goodwill by making perhaps the ultimate example of a big game for people and by people in Baldur's Gate 3, ran right off the road by openly embracing AI. The studio's CEO, Swen Vincke, has spent the past several days both digging his heels in and doing damage control, but the furor continues. Will the studio change its ways? Or will those of us opposed to AI have a difficult decision to make when Larian's next and apparently biggest game, Divinity, comes out in… probably still a lot of years? Then we hand out our first ever Stuff Of The Year awards to the games, trends, events, people, cats, nontroversies, and everything else that defined our 2025. Finally, we come up with a rock-solid concept for Aftermath Muppets.Credits- Hosts: Nathan Grayson, Chris Person, and Riley MacLeod- Podcast Production & Ads: Multitude- Subscribe to Aftermath!About The ShowAftermath Hours is the flagship podcast of Aftermath, a worker-owned, subscription-based website covering video games, the internet, and everything that comes after from journalists who previously worked at Kotaku, Vice, and The Washington Post. In this special episode, host Peter Bauman (Le Random's editor in chief) speaks with Paul Seidler and Paul Kolling from art collective terra0 about their project Autonomous Forest (2025). They cover the nearly decade-long journey from white paper (2016) as university students to the project's NFT launch in December 2025.The collective shares how the original idea in the white paper mutated with projects like Flowertokens, Premna Deamon and now Autonomous Forest. They also cover why working through German law and smart contracts creates better frameworks than pure speculation, how the project evolved from startup pitches to nonprofit governance, and what it means to build living systems that exist outside economic (and human) exploitation.Monday's Le Random Editorial on "Standout Artwork of 2025"Thursday's Le Random Editorial: "Zero 10 Part 1: Beeple Casts a Spell" by Kevin BuistChapters:
What happens when you stop trying to be “good” and start listening to your body? In this intimate and eye-opening conversation, Aideen welcomes back empowerment coach Julie Vander Meulen to explore the hidden rules of Good Girl Syndrome—how it frays our nervous systems, shapes our relationships, and quietly erodes our joy.Through real stories and practical, compassionate tools, Julie shares how a single word like“ouch” can soften conflict, why pausing to feel fear can change the entire direction of a conversation, and how circling back later can repair moments where panic once shut everything down. Together, we dig into the deeper roots: why so many of us confuse praise with love, why criticism can feel like exile, and how gentle self-acceptance practices can rebuild inner safety.Julie offers grounded rituals for reclaiming your worth: mirror moments, affectionate self-talk, and giving yourself rest without permission slips. We challenge achievement as the measure of value and offer a truer anchor: your essence is worthy by existing. From that truth, your voice softens, your boundaries strengthen, and connection becomes a place of honesty rather than performance. And then there's joy. Joy as a practice, not a prize. If happiness feels far away, begin with a memory of laughter and let your body remember. Reclaim small delights you once dismissed as unproductive: music that moves you, simple meals, playful imitation. In a world that hurts, joy isn't denial—it's fuel. When we allow ourselves to feel fully and show up fully, we become safer for each other. If this conversation resonates, subscribe, share it with someone who needs permission to be imperfect, and leave a review so more people can find their way back to their own voice. Your voice matters here.Support the showThanks for listening! To book a free consultation with Aideen visit https://www.confidenceinsinging.com/contact/

It may be that bad mouthing a beloved American Icon on he day he died is too much for even Trump to overcome. Usually, the public expects cruelty from Trump and his outbursts bring a collective shrug. His nasty words about actor/director Rob Reiner being killed because of Trump Derangement Syndrome seem to have been a bridge too far. Even some MAGA faithful are turning away and finding it hard to defend Trump this time. We will talk about it with Pulitzer Prize winning author and investigative journalist David Cay Johnston. It's Tech Tuesday and Jefferson Graham is back from from Japan and ready to talk gadgets. The Mark Thompson Show 12/16/25Patreon subscribers are the backbone of the show! This episode is an invitation to rethink what “clean,” “healthy,” and “balanced” actually mean - for our dogs, our homes, and the wider living systems we're part of.I sit down with Joe Flanagan, founder of Ingenious Probiotics, whose journey into the world of beneficial bacteria began in the most unexpected place: temperature control and air quality. What unfolded from there is a story that reaches far beyond products or protocols. It's about remembering a way of living that honours life instead of fighting it.Together we explore the anti-bacterial paradigm so many of us were raised inside, and what really happens when we wipe life away… and the ways Mother Nature inevitably fills the vacuum we create. We touch on:
This episode covers controlled op stooges, Fake Natties as in Fake players in the resistance, absolute frauds, schemes and lies, and of course the medical eugenics death cult that calls itself "healthcare."It matters a lot that that we're still tolerating the system that poisons us with deadly toxins and lies to us to garner trust and loyalty to this suicidal situation. If I sound like a broken record it's because not enough of the population understands they're walking into danger and disease everyday by trusting these evil people. Sarah has ventured into Giant Country (otherwise known as Stratford-upon-Avon) for the opening night of the RSC's stage version of The BFG, sparking a series of thoughts about why puppets have such a profound effect on audiences. This comes mere weeks after the critics raved about the stage production of Paddington. Speaking of the much-loved Bear, the Paddington musical was the runaway smash for the audience-driven WhatsOnStage Awards shortlist – which saw theatregoers across the nation pick their favourite shows and performers. Sarah and Alex comb through the nominated shows to see what it says about the state of UK theatre in 2025. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This episode brings a focus to the problem of perfectionism and how it can silence our natural spontaneity, turn our innate passions into stone and cancel the imagination and creativity that are natural to our souls. Perfectionism can be paradoxical in the sense that it can foster an egotistical sense that we are better than others or plunge us into feelings of inferiority and inadequacy. Michael Meade uses an old tale to show how the quest for perfection is a hopeless endeavor that operates as a kind of spell that continuously leads us away from our deeper sense of self and soul and prevents us from finding a genuine sense of self-worth. Rather than trying to be perfect, the true aim of life is to become a whole person. Becoming whole involves making mistakes and having faults, but also finding forgiveness and healing. No one is perfect, yet each soul is unique, having true self-worth within and a genuine aim in life that waits to be discovered. In the end, it is not perfection, but the uniqueness of the individual soul that makes each person meaningful, purposeful and innately valuable. Thank you for listening to and supporting Living Myth. Today I am both excited and frightened to talk with Tamara Kneese and Xiaowei Wang, two individuals whose research, writing, and activism has for years insisted on the materiality of the technologies that have brought us things like artificial intelligence, the Cloud, data centers, and digital agriculture. They explain why and how these technologies clothe themselves in ethereal garb and notions of a frictionless, beneficent capitalism while diverting attention from the vast natural and human resources they plunder to make a profit, and colonize more and more land, water, and minerals. We move from corrective histories and analyses to case histories that show how these technologies materialize in settler colonial practices, and end decisively on stories of how people are fighting back, and creating alternate software, hardware, and cultural and social practices that offer a window onto a much less violent and dismal world than the one technofascism wants us to be hypnotized by. Here, we set to break that spell.Tamara Kneese directs Data & Society Research Institute's Climate, Justice, and Technology program and previously led the Algorithmic Impact Methods Lab. Before joining D&S, she was director of developer engagement on the Green Software team at Intel and assistant professor of Media Studies and director of Gender and Sexualities Studies at the University of San Francisco. She is the author of Death Glitch: How Techno-Solutionism Fails Us in This Life and Beyond (Yale University Press, 2023), co-author of Notes Toward a Digital Workers' Inquiry (Common Notions Press, 2025), and the co-editor of The New Death: Mortality and Death Care in the Twenty-First Century (School for Advanced Research/University of New Mexico Press, 2022). Her work has been published in academic journals including Social Text, Social Media + Society, and the International Journal of Communication and in popular outlets such as Wired, The Verge, and The Baffler. Her research has been supported by the Internet Society Foundation, National Science Foundation, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Mellon Foundation, and the American Council of Learned Societies. Xiaowei R. Wang is an artist, writer, organizer and coder. They are the author of the book Blockchain Chicken Farm: And Other Stories of Tech In China's Countryside, a 2023 National Book Foundation Science and Literature Award winner. Their multidisciplinary work over the past 15 years sits at the intersection of tech, digital media, art, and environmental justice. Currently, they are a Mancosh Fellow at Northwestern University and one of the stewards of Collective Action School (formerly known as Logic School), an organizing community for tech workers. In this powerful episode of Scam Rangers, Ayelet Biger-Levin sits down with scam psychology expert Martina Dove to dive deep into the psychology of scams. Martina shares her insights on the psychological tactics used by scammers and the most effective methods for prevention and intervention. The conversation dives deep into the origins of Martina's research, which began with her interest in the Barnum effect , a phenomenon where people accept vague feedback as true when it applies to everyone. Barnum, an 1800s magician, even wrote a book on scams that are still in operation today, like romance scams and lotteries. Martina emphasizes that scams are now a "product that caters for everyone", as vulnerability depends on individual circumstances and personality, not IQ.Key Takeaways: The Scam Lifecycle and Psychology The Scammer's Hook: Scams, which now feature excellent grammar due to AI, prey on either opportunity (like job or romance scams) or fear (like sextortion). Once a victim responds to the initial communication, it's difficult to stop engaging. Grooming: A "Wear-Down" Process: Scams that go on for a long time—like pig butchering—evoke multiple visceral influences, starting with excitement and then inducing anxiety and fear of loss. The scammer will subtly withdraw or use verbal abuse if the victim does not comply. This wear-down period, which can last months, can cause victims to lose executive functions, affecting their memory and decision-making. Targeting Trust: Scammers groom victims to distrust their bank by teaching them that the bank will try to stop them, or by creating elaborate stories, such as a regulator investigating internal fraud. By the time the bank intervenes, the victim is a "worn out person" who truly believes the scammer's narrative. Effective Intervention: Empathy is Key: Authoritarian warnings, like "Don't panic" or "Never click links," are proven not to work, as they trigger a physiological reaction and make people switch off. Instead, interventions—especially from "Break the Spell" teams—need to be conversational and empathetic. Martina suggests asking the victim to simply "stall" the transfer, which often causes the scammer to escalate pressure, providing a warning sign to the victim. You can find more about Martina on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/martina-dove/A link to her book: https://www.routledge.com/The-Psychology-of-Fraud-Persuasion-and-Scam-Techniques-Understanding-What-Makes-Us-Vulnerable/Dove/p/book/9781032953908This podcast is hosted by Ayelet Biger-Levin, who has spent the last 15 years building technology to help financial institutions authenticate their customers and identify fraud. She believes that when it comes to scams, the story starts well before the transaction. Ayelet created this podcast to talk about the human side of scams and to learn from those dedicated to advocating for scam victims and taking action against fraud. It's Pittsburgh's birthday week! To celebrate, we're diving into some history about how our city spells its name. Today, we all agree that Pittsburgh ends with an H, but in our earlier days, people were very split on the issue. We're bringing back a conversation between host Megan Harris and historian and author Virginia Montanez to learn about the basic rules of how we spell things (really), why Pittsburgh was so bad at it (shocking), and how newspapermen and intellectuals made everything worse (¯_(ツ)_/¯). **This episode originally aired on July 22, 2024. Remember being a teen and coming up with “cool” ways of spelling common words? Well, just like the teenager it was, the United States in the 18th century was annoying their mom, England, with the hip words that were being edited and added to their lexicon. The antagonistic pair of nations on the brink of the Revolutionary War were always competing to prove their superiority and independence in small cultural battles, and words themselves were no different. Fellow word-nerd Gabe Henry, author of Enough Is Enuf: Our Failed Attempts to Make English Easier to Spell, joins Sarah as they chummily pun their way through the story of the 18th century Dictionary Wars, the story of the publishing battles fought between a handful of eccentric word-lovers in The US and England, all vying for the future supremacy of their own spellings. Digressions include crop circles from Unsolved Mysteries, dishonest detergent marketing, and old fashioned sock puppet accounts.More Gabe Henry:gabehenry.comEnough Is Enuf: Our Failed Attempts to Make English Easier to SpellProduced + edited by Miranda ZicklerMore You're Wrong About:linktr.ee/ywapodBonus Episodes on PatreonBuy cute merchYWA on InstagramSupport the show
