This powerful spoken word poem is a call to awakening for Black people across the diaspora. With razor-sharp clarity and ancestral fire, it confronts the toxic cycles of idol worship, cultural deception, spiritual warfare, and mental captivity imposed by media, entertainment, and systemic manipulation. The piece urges the community to unplug from illusion, reclaim ancestral wisdom, and shift from survival to sovereignty. Through vivid imagery and rhythmic truth, it builds to a thunderous climax, challenging listeners to break generational spells, restore their divine purpose, and begin building self-sustained cities, legacy, and truth from within. It is both a prophecy and a blueprint. A rally cry. A spiritual awakening.

With the podcast half-way through its tenth year it is a privilege to welcome back a former contributor to the show - read his piece on Clueless for The New Statesman that coincided with his previous appearance on the show - and long-time champion of The Cinematologists, Ryan Gilbey. Ryan's return is to promote and discuss his new book, the astoundingly good, It Used to be Witches: Under the Spell of Queer Cinema, published this month (June 2025) by Faber. Around the release date, I (Neil) sat down in Cinema 1 at the Barbican in London to discuss the book, the form(s) of Queer Cinema, Ryan's journey with his sexuality and how cinema is entwined and implicated, being a film obsessive, and the comfort of lists. It was a profound privilege to sit with an old friend to talk about his amazing work and this art form that we both love so much.  Around this conversation, Dario and I discuss Queer representation and the cinema as a transgressive space, ownership and authorship of texts, and the way that the cinema space affects not only the viewing of a film but in this case, the experience of talking about film. Finally, we talk about the film End of the Century (Castro, 2019, Argentina) - I mistakenly describe it as a Spanish film in the episode, apologies - the film that accompanied my visit to the Barbican to see Ryan, and also the film that magically ends his transcendent and moving book. This episode of The Cinematologists is dedicated to Barney Gilbey. ——— Visit our Patreon at www.patreon.com/cinematologists ——— You can listen to The Cinematologists for free, wherever you listen to podcasts: click here to follow. Send us a textIt is an absolute pleasure to have Dr Maurice Turmel on the show for a candid, relatable, and inspiring chat. Dr. Moe's path wasn't a straight one—it was hard-won. His father was physically abusive, and he grew up surrounded by strict Catholic indoctrination. Emerging from a childhood marked by emotional trauma, religious repression, and self-doubt, he forged a transformative journey of healing and self-emancipation. His life's work is a testament to the power of the human spirit to rise. Over the decades, he broke free from harmful early programming and came to embrace a simple, liberating truth. Turmel spent more than 25 years in clinical practice, counselling individuals, families, and organizations. His message pulses through his writing, music, and teachings. Dr. Turmel has authored numerous books including his latest, Breaking the Spell of Religion & Healing the Trauma. Thank you Maurice! Hey mama, This week's Monday Mindset is such an important one… especially if you've been feeling like you're doing all the things but still missing real connection with your kids. We're kicking off the week with this quote by Dr. A. Whitham: “Children spell love… T-I-M-E.” In this episode, I'm sharing how small, intentional moments of presence… even just 10 minutes a day… can completely shift your relationship with your child. Because it's not about elaborate plans or carving out hours you don't have. It's about putting your phone down, tuning into the moment, and being truly present…even in the chaos. Here's what I'm talking about: ✔️ Why quality time doesn't have to mean “a lot of time” ✔️ How to create meaningful micro-moments (that fit into your real life) ✔️ My favorite connection rituals… from sock-sorting chats to bedtime “rose and thorn” ✔️ Why your full attention… even for 10 minutes… can fill your child's emotional tank ✔️ A mindset shift that helps you ditch the guilt and show up with intention

Episode 186: Depeche Mode – Speak & Spell (1981) Part 3 In this episode, Brian and Sarah resume their look back at Depeche Mode's debut album. As a reminder, they're using the US track listing as they talk about the album, but for the songs contained in this episode, the track listing is the same on both sides of the pond.  The next songs up for discussion aren't singles, but that doesn't stop our hosts from finding plenty of things to talk about. Here are just a few examples: •    Sarah's phrase ‘Erasure gallop' is changed to ‘Vince Clarke gallop' due to one of these songs •    Brian's favorite ‘one-two punches' of Depeche Mode album tracks—one of which is found on this album •    The probable origins of the song “What's Your Name?” and whether or not it's actually a bad song.  •    DJ Stevo competing with Daniel Miller to work with Depeche Mode, and the compromise that was reached •    The last live performance of “Photographic” and who was there for it Additionally, our hosts are thrilled to share recordings from two listeners who provided Speak & Spell memories, and there are three reviews to read as well. And here's a friendly reminder that you too, can use the phone number or link below to record your own memories for use in a future episode! We begin this week in Pennsylvania with a story that involves a woman who starts to believe that something in her new house is coming for her family and trying to take it from her. Then, Dan takes us to Brazil to explore one of the more disturbing legends ever. The legend of Bárbara  of the Pleasures. But Bárbara's story, is not so pleasurable. When her looks began to fade, did an aging woman in the early 19th century, once heralded as a legendary beauty, do the unthinkable to regain her youthful attractiveness? Next up, Lynze offers us a story with many complex layers ranging from sleep paralysis to cosmic connections. Rounding out the episode, she gives us a classic haunted house story! Scared To Death Merch:Celebrate 300 episodes of Scared to Death with the killer new '300 Rituals' collection.
