Forbes 30 Under 30 - Youths Solving Real Problem I speak to the co-founders of Eezee, a Singapore-based B2B marketplace for buyers and business to access a wide range of brands and products. These two youths focused on solving real problems, instead of joining flashy industries that were seemingly more fun and exciting. However, for them to achieve such a feat, they went through many ups and downs. They shared their marketing strategy and what they felt they did right but... they also shared some of the regrets they had and what they would do to make their journey smoother. Travel Revenge - What is that? In this episode, I'm speaking with Tim Hentschel, CEO and co-founder of HotelPlanner. As a veteran in the tourism industry, I wanted to pick his brain and find out what he thought was in store for the future of the tourism industry, especially when it had been so negatively affected by the coronavirus. During our chat, "Travel Revenge" was brought up. It's a phenomenon where a sudden surge in travel plans are to be expected when travelling restrictions ease up in response to the fact that travellers were restricted from travelling for a prolonged period of time. While this may spell good news for the hospitality and tourism industry, I wondered if there was more that could be done to ensure companies could tide over these harsh times and Tim seems like just the person to do that. 072: Why Our School System Is Broken PSA: I don't hate school! In fact, I think it's a really cool place for people to build relationships and learn new skills. School provides you with practically everything - opportunities, exposure, networks and a certificate. However, what they don't teach you is how to market yourself. Imagine going to school and being an expert at whatever you've learnt for the past 3 to 4 years but you have no idea how to express your knowledge. If you don't do that, nobody's going to want to hire you. And this is where school has failed you. Listen in to learn more! 070: Why Most People Want To Be Successful But They Are Not This is an analogy that I heard about the four different types of people. Only one type of person will go on to be successful. Will you be the successful one? It's not that they lack the desire or the drive. They simply lack the effort to follow through on their desires. You see, I have hosted many webinars and seminars. The first type of person would probably see the event happening but won't bother to attend. The second type of person would aim to attend the event but back out on the day itself. The third type of person would attend my event. They come to me and aim to gain as much knowledge as possible to grow their business. They're so excited and I'm happy to help. However, they never follow through. They don't even start! Not because they don't want it enough but they learn so much and end up overwhelmed, not taking any action. Only the fourth type of person who attends, learns and takes action will end up successful. Listen in to learn more! A scalable business will ensure it's built for long-term survival and won't die just like the hype for it. Imagine getting so many clients but being unable to handle the load, leading to your business's demise. That is the prime example of a business that wasn't scalable. 065: Why You Need A Value Ladder? The Value Ladder is actually a concept introduced by Russell Brunson, the founder of ClickFunnels. The Value Ladder essentially considers the identity shift of your customers. For example, when you sell a bible, you don't target Christians because they already have their own. You target people who are considering of taking up or converting to Christianity. Your Value Ladder has to help people make the identity shift. So, if you're selling a bible, you could give some value-added content about what being a Christian entails so that people might be more inclined to take up Christianity and become YOUR target audience. They have big ideas and come to me, telling me that they're willing to do whatever it takes to make their dreams come true. I pour all the knowledge I have learned into them to help them. I call them a week later and they have lost all momentum and drive. Why? They simply didn't put in the effort to start. 062: Online Personal Branding For Newbies If you're planning to listen to this podcast, it means that you know the importance of personal branding. Congratulations. This means that you are already one step ahead of everyone else. There are 3 points to a successful personal brand. Personal branding is literally the magic solution to being successful in your business, and I say this with confidence. Did you know it is proven that content shared on a personal account is guaranteed to have a higher conversion rate than the same content shared on a company account? In this digital world, people are the most connected but disconnected they’ve ever been, so they crave connection. And it’s really difficult to feel connected and loyalty towards a brand that they just see as a corporation. Therefore, I've come up with 3 quick tips that will help you build your personal branding online. It’s time you re-evaluated your personal branding Position your brand Pick a market you want to be known for. Nobody is an expert at everything. If you’re the Jack of all trades, you’re also the master of none and nobody will look towards a person who is mediocre at everything when they need help. They will go to the most qualified and wise person in that specific field. Go in-depth. Sure, you’re in the finance market but there are many aspects to it. Are you doing insurance? Insurance itself, is also very broad. Go deeper. Let’s say you position yourself as an insurance agent who specialises in plans ONLY for pregnancies and infants. See how that just adds to your credibility and knowledge in this subject matter?

061: Online Personal Branding For Newbies If you're interested in listening to this, it means that you know the importance of personal branding. Great! You are already one step ahead of others. There are three points that you have to understand when establishing your personal brand. The first point is to find a positioning. When you go out and introduce yourself on the internet, you have to have something in mind. Are you a magician? Are you an insurance agent? Before you brand yourself, find your identity. The Japanese concept called "Ikigai" is good for that. Next, you've got to understand The Blue Ocean concept. We are all fishing in the same ocean; fighting for customers in the same industry. Remove yourself from the competition and go niche. Make yourself an expert that only provides one thing and make sure you're damn good at it. When you're the best of the best in a niche field, people will go to you. Finally, you can create a system to create content. One piece of content can be transformed into many shorter forms of content. A video can be turned into a gif or a screenshot. Export the audio separately and you've got a podcast! 058: Why Are Marketers Creating So Much Social Media Content Now? Feeling overwhelmed by the large amount of content that marketers are putting out? You should… especially if you have not started. The demand for content is always growing, but there is a limit to how much social media platforms can provide. When we pay for advertising, we take up an ad space, but there are limited ad spaces. What happens when the demand for it is high? The price rises, that’s what. That’s a problem for you, especially if you don’t gain much exposure outside of paid ads. That’s why everyone is creating content and building their personal brand. Personal branding is the key. When you build your personal brand, people get to understand you and relate to you. When that happens, you either get extremely loyal fans or haters who really hate you, but I’d rather that happen, than have a bunch of people who are on the fence about you. That will just make you forgettable. Start putting yourself out there, unless you want to be at the mercy of ads and the advertising prices. Marketers are already putting so much content out there. 054: What To Do After Running Your Business For 2 Years? You’ve successfully run your business for more than 2 years, what’s next? Here’s what to do. Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of just continuing about their operations and hoping things will run smoothly and that MAY work, but it isn’t the most efficient way of doing things. Detach yourself from the business At the 2 year mark, you would have most probably reached a stage of growth and further growth requires scalability and sustainability. You are just ONE person, you cannot grow with the business because you can only do so many things. Start letting the many departments run autonomously. To do that, you have to come up with systems and processes and most importantly, hire the right people. Start building your personal brand Now that you’ve built a brand, it’s time to build up yourself. You have a story, a struggle and a process. Share that story and establish yourself as an expert. Come up with a messaging that you stand by. You will attract potential customers who agree and pique the interest of those who don’t They will take note of your brand and trust the credibility of your brand even more, because it is built from you, the expert that they’re following online. Also, it's great to come up with models in your agency. It doesn't have to be anything new but it can be a bundling of offers that you've been offering all this while. This is how you do FB ads… without paying a single dollar. Usually, people love to ask me one question concerning FB marketing - “How much money should I be putting into my marketing budget?” My answer to that is always the same - As much as possible. The reason why I say that is very simple. ROI Whatever amount you put into marketing should always generate a positive return on investment (ROI). Let’s say you pump in $1 in FB ads. Your ads should generate you $2. You would’ve made a $1 profit. At this point, you can either be happy with the $1 profit… OR put it back into marketing. This time, putting in $2 should garner you a $4 and so on. Don’t be too concerned about how much you put in. Your question should be “How do I ensure that I will always get a positive ROI?” Create a Bomb Offer Simple. Make sure your offer is irresistible. If your offer is so amazing that nobody would want to miss out on it, your ad will run well. If you don’t wish to do ads, you have to focus on your personal branding. Your greatest asset is yourself. Put out a video. Optimise it. Use the right keywords and ensure you’ve got the SEO down. You don’t pay a single dollar, but you’ve got to put in the work. Listen in to learn more! People don’t like it when I speak, but I’m still going to speak up. When you speak or share your ideas, it’s inevitable that you will receive some comments. Some of them will be hurtful. Some will be constructive. “You speak too fast” “You sound funny” “You don’t even know how to speak English properly” I’ve been speaking for so long that these comments have become regular for me and there’s a reason why I continue to speak even when there is a high possibility that I will receive some negative comment. It’s because I am extremely passionate about the message that I’m sending when I speak. Also, I speak the truth I’ve come across many business, people and agencies who love to fluff up their achievements and distort the truth. They might say that they achieved some big feat but honestly, they just did some photoshop or omitted information to mislead. I believe in transparency, to my clients and to my employees. This is how you never run out of content ever again Long Form Content You just need one long-form content. It can be in any format, whether it’s a video or a blog post. When you have that one, then the real fun can begin. You see, one piece of content can be broken up into many pieces and converted into different formats. Let’s say you have a video. What is the topic you’re discussing in the video? Turn it into a blog post. From there, you can even split up the blog post into smaller articles, each dedicated to a specific point you mentioned in the longer blog post. Go deeper. Take a quote from the article and do up some graphics. You can then post this on other social media platforms! You can even extract audio from the video to post it as a podcast. Cater to Different Needs The thing about people is that everyone has different preferences when it comes to consuming content. Some people enjoy listening while others prefer to read. Therefore, it’s really good to keep in mind how you can present the same content in different formats Snip Snip Your content might be 5 minute long. In that 5 minutes, some of it might resonate strongly with people and others might not. Not everyone is going to enjoy every single minute of your content and that’s okay. Are you going to throw away the entire video if people don’t love every minute? No! You take the part that people love and emphasize it. You re-present it in different formats. Let’s say that people really love a quote you mentioned in the video. You can’t make another video of yourself just saying the quote... That would be ridiculous! Make a quote graphic. One piece of content can give you several other pieces. As a business, putting out content consistently will help you establish yourself as a thought leader. Start putting out content today. Here’s how I generated 6 figures in 6 months. I remember a particular chapter in Russel Brunson’s Expert Secrets book. It talked about community building and creating your own tribe. In every community, there’s always gotta be that one person to be the face of it. If there isn’t one, the community won’t last. Someone has to be the leader to guide the rest and ensure that everyone’s mindsets are aligned. Put Yourself Out There When I first started Kingsmaker, I didn’t like putting myself out there, and that was my first mistake. So, I started being active on social media. After putting myself out there, people started associating Kingsmaker’s success with my face. Because of that, many people started taking notice and some even reach out to me on their own accord. I made connections, friends and gained lots of clients. This was in line with a dream that I have. I wanted to create a community of people who shared my vision and my dream. Everyone in the community would be walking advocates. This was every entrepreneur’s dream - to be able to generate leads without paying for it. This would truly be the sign that whatever you offered was worth it. Tell a Story Lastly, the book taught me the importance of telling a story. While I’m still uncomfortable behind the camera and have trouble sharing my story, I love to teach, but people do not connect with you emotionally if you don’t let them know your story Let people know you. If they know you, they are more likely to trust you with their money and business. Listen in to learn more! 045: Why I Don't Change Clothes?

If you’re wondering why I always seem to be wearing the same thing and don't change my clothes, it’s because I am. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not because I’m lazy or don’t care for fashion. Like any other person, I do want to look good and enjoy grooming myself too, but about two years ago, I saw something that changed my entire perspective on dressing. At that point of time, I saw an interview that Mark Zuckerberg was in, and also read an article about Steve Jobs. These two men are known for their innovation and success and they had something in common - they always seemed to be wearing the same thing! Imagine making millions but wearing the same old outfit everyday! They were both posed with the same question - why? This is what they said… Decision Fatigue Did you know that us humans are only able to make 7 to 11 critical decisions at our peak? Every single day, we can only make 7 to 11 great decisions. If we let our dressing in the morning take up ONE of that decision, we would have sacrificed a precious decision that could have been made for more important things. Wearing the same thing everyday eliminates that After listening to that, I was skeptical but decided to give it a try and to my surprise, I found more benefits… My outfit is my brand I always say this but personal branding is the ONLY thing you ever need to succeed and wearing the same thing everyday has created a signature look for me. Even when I’m giving talks, hosting events or going to places that require formal dressing, I try my best to wear my outfit, putting on a jacket if needed. While I respect these institutions, I like to think that it’s not about what I wear, but what value I bring. Also, I’ve grown comfortable with what I’m wearing ‍ Cash I love to shop. It’s hard not to, when there are so many cool outfits available. You don’t even have to leave your home. You can just browse online and it’ll reach your doorstep within a week. The internet has made shopping way too easy, but since I wear the same thing everyday, I have less reasons to shop. You won’t believe just how much money I save. While this may not be for everybody. It’s what I do and it’s what I enjoy. Hopefully, my thoughts have inspired you. Give this a try. You might find that it’s not so bad that I don't change my clothes! Listen in to learn more! 044: 3 Quick Tips To Build Your Personal Brand Online

If you can’t seem to close any clients, it is 100% your fault. Getting to close 59 agency clients in 6 months without paid ads isn't a pipe dream. It is 100% attainable. This isn’t something you can't make happen. Most people like to think that clients are hard to come by, because… There is too much competition! Let’s face it... In the past, if you wanted to start your own business, you might have an easier time compared to now. The entrepreneurial spirit is running strong amongst the youths. They’re young, savvy and educated. If you’re not worrying about the startups, then you’ve got to look out for the top dogs in the game - the huge organisations and companies that are already so well known and loved amongst the general public. How can you possibly beat that??? They do not have connections Just starting out and don’t seem to know anybody? Attended meetings and tried whatever means to no avail? Singapore truly is small. Everybody knows everybody but somehow you just don’t know anybody! I only listed two obstacles but already, it seems so impossible to overcome these hurdles. But what I learnt over the years is that, if you can identify your problem, you can definitely come up with a solution. Just a few months ago, I was struggling just like you and it came to a point where I had to sit down and re-evaluate everything I was doing. That was the best decision I had made in a long time. This is what I did and what I think you should do… - Revisit your target market. They have many pains and problems but times are constantly changing and so are their needs, which leads us to my next point… - Reconsider your offer. Craft an offer so irresistible that practically nobody can say NO to you. Remember that cost and worth are two very different things. While you absolutely should not compromise on the cost, you can add value until a package’s worth exceeds the cost. - Solidify your messaging. What exactly is your package offer going to do for people. What exactly will come out of your services? Be consistent with it, and you will definitely be recognised. I closed 59 agency clients in 6 months with these 3 practices, without paid ads. You can do the same or more. Listen in to learn more! 040: Japanese Concept That Change My Business & Life While it's certainly not a new concept, it's not a concept that enough people know about. It's called "Ikigai" and in it resides 4 respective quadrants that are intertwined, much like many things in life. Should you manage to find your Ikigai, you find your purpose in life and direction in which you were meant to go. It's a concept that doesn't get too idealistic. Most concepts about finding your purpose are too far off, ignoring the harsh realities of the world, such as the need for cash. Ikigai's 4 quadrants are... What I Love This is a very basic quadrant. You always need to know what you love. If you love something, and it's completely and utterly legal and ethical, why would you spend your limited time on Earth not pursuing it? What I Am Good At Capitalising on what you're good at, is a skill that most people don't utilise enough. Sure, it might be way off from what you love, but it can be used to bolster your way and figuring out how exactly to fit your skills on doing what you love. What The World Needs In a way, this is to be realistic. If you love and are good at sleeping, there might not be a demand for it. In this case, you've got to ensure your purpose is needed. What I Can Be Paid For This is important. Money does talk and you do need it to survive. That's why this quadrant was included. Your Ikigai lies in the very centre of these 4 overlapping quadrants. How To Sell A Bible Many people make this mistake when selecting their target audience. They try to sell bibles to Christians. While it might make sense initially, try reflecting deeper on your decision. Wouldn't you think that Christians would already own a bible of their own? This makes them an unsuitable target audience to focus on when you're selling bibles since they wouldn't have much of a desire for your product. Instead, think about the transformational journey of someone who might want to own a bible. That means you've got to instead focus on people who are interested in Christianity! These are the people whom you should target should you wish to sell bibles because they are interested in the contents of the book and do not currently own one! This is a really simple concept that can actually make many people rethink their target audience. Most people tend to choose people who already own the product. Why Customers Don't Buy From Y? Make no mistake, the reason why customers don't buy from you is usually your fault, but that's a good thing because it means you hold the power to change for the better and ensure that your customers buy from you the next time. Usually the mistake falls on your messaging or how you present your offer. Create An Irresistible Offer If you have an irresistible offer, there really is no reason why people would not want to buy from you but first, you have to understand the difference between your product/service vs your offer. You see, an offer is a bundle that you create to give alongside your product/service. Selling a gym membership? Don't just give them 3 months free on top of the 1 month membership, because that can be easily modelled from other gyms and your offer wouldn't seem so amazing anymore. Give them diet plans, personal trainer sessions and exclusive gym wear to represent their involvement with your gym. This makes them proud to be part of your gym and also everything you give them is useful with their gym endeavours. Because of this bundling, you can even charge higher. Push Down False Belief False belief is something that your customers believe, that's wrong and that you have the solution to. If someone comes to me and tell me that they are unable to create content because they don't know what content to create and therefore they wouldn't want to join my personal branding course, I will offer them a 15 minutes training on how to generate unlimited content idea. They are then more likely to join me in my course. There are three types of false beliefs. They either doubt your solution, themselves or external factors. 030: Content To Attract Your Target Audiences

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 21, 2020 7:40

Content To Attract Your Target Audience I'm sure you want to ensure that you put out content to attract your target audience, but many often are unsure of what kind of content that can successfully capture their target audience's attention and keep them reeled in. Well, actually, you just need to understand and talk about these four points. Motivation Talk about your motivation. What motivated you to go on a journey. Tell them about how you were when you started, whether you were an absolute idiot or a loser. This is because normal people don't connect with successful and the ultra rich. They don't want to hear you brag. They want to hear stories that they can relate to because they actually understand! Fear Share with them your fear. It's all about connecting. Everyone has fears and if you make yourself out to be a fearless businessman who succeeds at anything they do, they can't relate and they might even brush your efforts off as luck. Proudly share your fear, whether you're afraid of speaking, failure, losing money or what other people think of you. More often than not, your audience will relate and they will want to find out more. When you share your weakness, people see you as an expert because they're amazed that you managed to overcome it and if they wish to do the same, they know to look to you for advice. Truth Sometimes, the truth can be ugly, and not enough people pick a stand. There's no polarity if you just sit on the fence, but the fence may not be the truth. Sit on the fence and nobody will know of you, because you fit in. Pick a side and preach your truth and you will gain both haters and loyal fans, but it's better than having no one at all that supports you. Be confident enough to pick a stand, and people will trust you. Objection The thing about objection is that you shouldn't make the assumption that you know what are people's objections. It's better to ask your target audience and then make content with regards to how you can dispel their objections. And this is how you make content to attract your target audience. Note how all these types of content are centred around your target audience. No one really wants to read content that doesn't relate to them and these four are all about relating to them. Try it today. Listen in to learn more!
