What This Year Taught Me: Pause, Reflect, Hope
What This Year Taught Me: Pause, Reflect, Hope
The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, will once again be tracking Santa Claus this year, as he travels around the world, bringing gifts to kids across the globe. What started 70 years ago as a mistaken phone call from a child to the former Continental Air Defense Command, is now a beloved holiday tradition for families everywhere. More than a thousand volunteers will be staffing NORAD's Santa Operations Center, to answer the hundreds of thousands of phone calls that come in from around the world. In Southern California, powerful winter storms are threatening holiday plans. Millions in California are expected to hit the road for Christmas, but are likely to meet hazardous travel conditions. Officials are warning residents about potentially deadly flash flooding and mudslides, and to reconsider their holiday travel plans. Local and state officials are gearing up to respond to emergencies through the week. The state has also deployed resources and first responders to a number of counties along the coast and in Southern California, with the California National Guard on standby to assist.A fire and explosion erupted in the Bristol Health and Rehab Center near Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. At least two are dead and 20 are inured. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro says firefighters, rescue crews and bystanders were helping to get the nursing home residents to safety. Authorities are investigating a possible gas leak as the cause.

Episode OverviewBill and Chris unpack the philosophy and implementation of assessment within the UHPC Model, showing how testing reveals energetic behavior—not just structural position. Rather than focusing on static joint angles, they illustrate how relative motion, systemic organization, and phase-based strategies tell the real story of what a system can or cannot do. The discussion critiques isolative and reductionist interpretations and offers a coherent, propulsion-informed approach to understanding and intervening effectively.Key Topics & Chapter Highlights00:00 – What Assessment Is For02:30 – You're Probably Not Measuring What You Think You Are06:40 – What ER and IR Measures Actually Tell You09:10 – Relative Motion vs Orientation12:00 – Local Symptoms Are Global Behavior Problems14:00 – ER = Space | IR = Pressure16:30 – Table Tests Aren't Neutral20:00 – Propulsion Phases Reveal the Strategy24:00 – The Tests Reveal Potential, Not Performance27:30 – Even If You Don't Do Table Tests...Key TakeawaysAssessment reveals system behavior, not joint capacity. You're always measuring shape, not parts.Table tests show potential, not upright readiness—but they're foundational for interpreting strategy.Relative motion is key. Orientation without opposition means compression and less adaptability.IR = pressure. ER = space. Both are phase-dependent, not just joint-specific.Complex movements reflect strategy. Last time, I talked about the virtue of making a plan. The situation isn't good. Bad conflict is brewing. You have decided that it's time for a chat. You want this chat to be productive. So how do you set up for success? One way to work through the set-up is to break it down. Why? Who? When? How? Where? What? Excellent. You have made a plan. A good one. Oops. As plans do, this one is about to fall apart. Something – or a few things – have changed. Now what? You can use the same approach to figure out your pivot.Of course, I have framed this all of this as considering how to set up for a productive chat and then pivot ahead of time.If the pivot needs to happen after the chat has begun, resist any temptation to plow ahead. Give yourself and the other person (or people) a chance to take a pause. Reconsider and then figure out what that pivot should look like. Do you have comments or suggestions about a topic or guest? My friend Sam and I were discussing the humanitarian crisis in Israel and Palestine, which has been heartbreaking for so many of us and shortly after we spoke, we received word that August 6th-9th there is a "Hunger Strike for Humanity", co-organized by our friends and healing allies, Stephen and Marcina at Reconsider. August 6th and 9th specifically coincides with the 80th Anniversary of the atomic bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The intention and prayer of the fast is to meditate on what we can do in our personal lives to help humanity choose peace over violence and deeply ask, "what kind of world do we want to live in?". This fast is not focused on one specific situation but the myriad conflicts that are happening in the present day (Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Haiti, Ukraine/Russia, Myanmur and so on). Simultaneously, this hunger strike for humanity is stated to be in solidarity with Satyam Homeland's Hunger Strike for Peace, an ongoing hunger strike being carried out by both Israeli and Paelstinians calling for peace, reconciliation between cultures, and the end of the policy of forced starvation and siege on the civilians in Gaza. This hunger strike isn't a one-sided political movement - it is just a humble, simple inner and outer action we want to take for humanity to recognize that love, compassion, forgiveness, peace, and a fundamental respect for human rights for all people are the only methods capable of ending conflict both within and without. We are inviting the community to join us in this prayer to advocate for a more compassionate world so that as my teacher, Maestro Manuel, would say, may all people may have clean water, food, shelter, & be happy. If you feel inspired to join in some manner there is more info below here: https://multifaithpeace.org/event/vigil-for-humanity-on-80th-year-after-atomic-bombing/ How to Participate This is a personal and collective invitation. You are welcome to join in whatever way resonates with you: Join the vigils and conversations via Zoom Fast in a way that aligns with your capacity—full, partial, from food, a habit or distraction Hold moments of daily silence, prayer, or reflection together Share stories, light candles, or simply witness Together, we reflect with curiosity, become aware of our role in all of it, take responsibility for what we create, reimagine what's possible, and manifest peace through conscious presence. There is no need to RSVP. Just join us when you feel called.

In this broadcast, Tara breaks down a historic $9 billion Senate-approved funding cut targeting controversial programs like USAID, NPR, and PBS—calling it a first step toward deeper cuts that could reach hundreds of billions. She argues that USAID has long functioned as a “power center” for the CIA, funneling taxpayer money to enemies like the Taliban and Hamas. The segment details how USAID allegedly propped up terror groups and opium production, contributing to American casualties abroad. Tara then shifts to a New York Times op-ed urging readers to stop ostracizing conservative relatives over COVID and Trump, reflecting on her own painful experiences of political shunning. She questions whether apologies will ever come and whether the country can heal its divisions. Listener texts pour in, sharing stories of fractured families and unexpected reconciliations.
