MY Devotional: Daily Encouragement from Leading The Way

You can be doing the right thing for the right reason—and still become discouraged enough to stop. After decades of exile in Babylon, a faithful remnant of God's people returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple. They had chosen obedience over comfort, but fierce opposition eventually brought their work to a halt. For years, the mission God had given them remained unfinished. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef turns to Haggai 1 and 2, where God confronted His discouraged people with a repeated challenge: “Consider your ways.” The Israelites needed to examine their priorities, remember their calling, and resume the work they had abandoned. Opposition often intensifies when we begin taking God seriously. Distraction, resistance, and discouragement can tempt us to quit at precisely the moment we should persevere. Like the Israelites, we must decide whether we will follow the comfortable majority or remain part of the faithful remnant. Jesus Himself chose obedience over the easier road. In Gethsemane, facing unimaginable suffering, He surrendered to the Father: “Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Christ endured because the glory ahead was greater than the suffering before Him. Whatever opposition you are facing today, do not allow discouragement to destroy your spiritual momentum. Reconsider your priorities, surrender your will to God, and keep moving forward. The road may be difficult, but Christ is worth following all the way to the finish line. Pray with me. Lord Jesus, I pray that my faith would become even stronger so that when I face discouragement, I will not give up but press on to serve You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. If today's devotional stirred a question, burden, or need for prayer, you don't have to walk through it alone.

Stuck in a Midlife Rut? How to Reinvent Yourself | Tina Bernard

Do you feel as though you've reached an emotional cul-de-sac in midlife? In this uplifting conversation, Lynne talks with Tina Bernard, founder of The Badass Arts™, about rebuilding self-trust, interrupting old patterns, and recognizing that midlife isn't the end of the adventure. It may be the beginning of your most honest and fulfilling chapter yet.                                                                              _________________ Have you ever looked at the life you've built and quietly wondered, Is this really all there is? You may have spent decades building a career, nurturing relationships, raising a family, and meeting everyone else's needs. Then midlife arrives, bringing changes in your body, family, relationships, career, or identity—and suddenly, you're no longer sure where you fit. In this episode of Living Life Naturally, Lynne talks with Tina Bernard, founder of The Badass Arts™, about what happens when women reach what Tina calls an "emotional cul-de-sac." Rather than seeing midlife as a plateau, Tina encourages women to view it as an opportunity to question the patterns they've inherited, reconnect with their inner wisdom, and create a life that feels more honest and aligned. Tina shares the personal experiences behind The Badass Arts™, including her journey through an unhealthy marriage, single motherhood, financial hardship, rebuilding her life, finding love again, and leaving her corporate career to create a movement for women in their middle years. Together, Lynne and Tina explore how women can move beyond regret, quiet their "doubt goblins," and make small but meaningful changes that strengthen self-trust. Tina also shares four simple expressions of purpose available to every woman: love, laugh, labor, and learn. Purpose doesn't always need to involve an enormous mission or dramatic reinvention. It can be found in how we love others, make room for joy, contribute to the world, and remain curious about life. This conversation is a warm and refreshing reminder that you are not your patterns—and it's never too late to choose a different response. In This Episode, You'll Discover Why midlife can feel like an emotional cul-de-sac The difference between living authentically and living according to expectations How major transitions can weaken—or awaken—your sense of identity A powerful question to ask when life presents a challenge Why a simple morning ritual can set the emotional tone for your day Tina's four universal expressions of purpose Why love is something we practice, not simply something we feel How curiosity helps keep us emotionally engaged with life Why regret and joyful appreciation struggle to coexist How old patterns develop—and why they don't define you The surprising power of making very small behavioral shifts How midlife can become a season of freedom, possibility, and reinvention Guest Introduction Today, I'm joined by Tina Bernard, founder of The Badass Arts™, a movement designed to help women in midlife move beyond old patterns and create lives filled with more soul, substance, and sass. Drawing from her professional experience, education, personal hardships, and lifelong fascination with the human condition, Tina helps women bridge the gap between what they know and how they actually live. Her work explores self-trust, emotional intelligence, meaningful change, and the tiny shifts that can transform a woman's relationship with herself and her future. Welcome, Tina. I'm delighted to have you with us today. Key Takeaways Look for the gift or opportunity When life changes unexpectedly, Tina suggests asking: "What is the gift or opportunity within this challenge?" This isn't about pretending that something painful is positive. It's about remaining open to what the experience might teach you or make possible. Create a brief morning ritual Before getting out of bed or reaching for your phone, pause long enough to decide how you want to enter the day. Even 30 seconds of intention can help you move out of autopilot. Reconsider what purpose means Tina believes we share four fundamental expressions of purpose: Love: Act with care, compassion, and kindness. Laugh: Make room for playfulness, pleasure, and spontaneous joy. Labor: Contribute something meaningful and help make the world better. Learn: Stay curious about yourself, other people, and life. Remember that you're not your patterns Your automatic responses may have developed through past experiences, but they aren't your identity. With awareness, commitment, and small changes, those patterns can be interrupted. Memorable Quotes "You are not your patterns." "Between the mess we experience and the miracles we desire, there has to be a bridge." "What's the gift or opportunity within this challenge?" "Love is a verb." "The moment we stop learning and our curiosity dulls, that's when life begins to feel over." "If you're living in regret, it's difficult to live in joyful appreciation." "Tiny shifts may feel as though they're taking longer, but when they finally land, your life is different." Lakewood Elementary School Consolidation Controversy For several years now, Lakewood City School District has been looking into consolidating its school buildings, due to declining enrollment, but that effort has recently resulted in a lawsuit settlement that has taken officials back to the drawing board. As public schools around the country face similar considerations, leaders in Lakewood say the district has seen a decrease of roughly 2,400 students since 2003. Despite the decrease, consolidation discussions have become heated, with the Friends of Lakewood Schools group suing the district over the manner in which plans were established for the repurposing of Lincoln Elementary School, with the district's hope to turn it into a child development center. That lawsuit was recently settled, putting that plan on pause for the time being. On Tuesday's episode of the "Sound of Ideas" hosted by Stephanie Haney, Ideastream Public Media's education reporter Conor Morris shares what the lawsuit settlement means for the future of Lincoln Elementary School. Proliferation is no longer "old news" but a growing threat as nations seek their own deterrents. Ep 244 — Trump Says SCOTUS Must Reconsider 'IMMEDIATELY

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 10, 2026 48:50

DOCKET ALERTS:   Trump says he's going to get the Supreme Court to reconsider its birthright citizenship ruling "IMMEDIATELY." (He's not.)   He also says he's going to get SCOTUS to reconsider its denial of certiorari in the E. Jean Carroll case, and thus he shouldn't have to pay the $5 million he owes her. (Again, he's not.) Judge Lewis Kaplan ordered the escrowed funds to be disbursed to Kaplan, holding that it was time for Trump to "do equity and pay the judgment." And the Second Circuit summarily refused his "emergency" request for an administrative stay of the disbursement order. Pay up, a-hole!   The DC Circuit rebuffed Trump's petition to get his name slapped back on the Kennedy Center pending appeal of the ruling that it was illegal to put it there in the first place. Olympian David Hearn was arraigned today in DC Superior Court on felony charges for having vandalized Trump's janky Reflecting Pool remodel.   Former Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan was given a $5,000 fine but no jail time after being convicted of obstructing ICE by letting an immigrant defendant exit the courtroom using the jury door. The government had sought an eight to ten-month custodial sentence.   DOOFUS OF THE DAY: Ken Paxton, who separated from his wife two years ago, and still continues to use his former marital home as his address for voting purposes, according to ProPublica.   MAIN SHOW:   The Eleventh Circuit upheld an injunction blocking much of Florida's Stop WOKE Act (get it? get it?), which barred university professors from taking a position on "controversial" ideas like systemic racism. The state's theory is that professors are government employees, and employers can regulate speech, and thus teachers are just like Walmart greeters who can be given a strict script. The judges did not agree.   In Georgia, a federal judge quashed a subpoena for a vast trove of data on every person who worked on the 2020 election. Judge William Ray reasoned that any "crime" committed would be outside the statute of limitations, and so he need not reach the propriety of the subpoena to quash it.   According to a recently filed lawsuit, the Trump administration has been violating its own policies and handing Iranian asylum seekers over to the Iranian government — even after we started bombing the country.   Maine senatorial candidate Graham Platner has dropped out — sort of. We'll discuss the legal implications and what happens going forward.   SUBSCRIBER BONUS: Update on the "Judgefight" from Ep. 243. Judge Sparkle Sooknanan in DC says that the Trump administration cannot use the Social Security database to bulk-verify state voter rolls. Judge T. Kent Wetherell in Florida says that they must. “Every woman deserves the chance to have a real discussion about hormone therapy — and make whatever decision is right for her. I'm here to give information and answer questions. It's your body.”— Dr. Jacqueline RiedelThe doctor who finally has time for youDr. Jacqueline Riedel, DO spent 15 years in family medicine where she learned this: women's hormonal health in midlife was profoundly under-treated and misunderstood. In a busy hospital-based clinic, she'd start a long-overdue conversation with a patient about perimenopause symptoms… and have to cut it off because the schedule demanded it.So she left. She opened Magnolia Midlife Women's Health, a direct-care practice built on something simple but radical: unhurried, conversational visits where women can actually ask their questions, get real answers, and leave feeling seen.In this conversation, she covers what's really happening hormonally in your 30s, 40s, and 50s and why everything you were told to fear about hormone therapy probably isn't the full story.Perimenopause starts earlier than you thinkDr. Riedel sees women with perimenopause symptoms long before any changes in the menstrual cycle. If you've been dismissed, or told your symptoms are just stress or mom-brain, you're not alone. Symptoms she commonly sees:• New insomnia: can't fall asleep or waking for no apparent reason• Anxiety, often misread as “just life stress”• Persistent, unexplained fatigue• Hot flashes and night sweats• Mood changes including irritability, low mood, brain fog• Cycle irregularities such as heavier periods, irregular timingDr. Riedel's approach: map symptoms to your cycle. When do they happen? Are there patterns? She also rules out other common causes, including thyroid issues and iron deficiency before exploring hormone therapy as an option.MYTH BUSTINGThe fears holding women back from reliefTwo decades after the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study was misread and sensationalized, fear still dominates the conversation around hormone therapy. Dr. Riedel sets the record straight.Myth 1: Hormone therapy causes breast cancer.Fact: Long-term WHI follow-up showed women in the hormone treatment group had lower rates of breast cancer. Even a first-degree family history is not a contraindication. And if breast cancer does occur in someone using MHT, their risk of dying is actually lower than in those not using it.Myth 2: The doses in MHT are dangerously high.Fact: Menopausal hormone therapy doses are far lower than those in oral contraceptive pills. If you'd prescribe the pill, you can't logically call MHT dangerous.Myth 3: Vaginal estrogen has systemic effects and should be avoided in cancer history.Fact: Topical vaginal estrogen has negligible systemic absorption. It reduces UTIs, yeast infections, urinary frequency, and pelvic floor dysfunction, even in women under active breast cancer treatment, per emerging oncology research. The FDA recently removed the black-box warning.TREATMENT OVERVIEWHow Dr. Riedel approaches careThere's no single protocol. Dr. Riedel listens first, identifying the top two or three symptoms most affecting quality of life, and builds from there.Progesterone for sleep & anxiety• Stimulates GABA production, a calming neurotransmitter• Helps with sleep onset and staying asleep• Reduces the racing mind at 2am• Often the first place she startsEstrogen for vasomotor symptoms• Addresses night sweats, hot flashes, palpitations• Keeps estrogen levels from dropping to “empty”• Preferred as transdermal (patch, gel, spray) to avoid blood clot risk• Added when progesterone alone isn't enoughVaginal estrogen for urogenital health• Reduces painful intercourse and dryness• Decreases UTIs and yeast infections• Supports pelvic floor health long-term• About 50% of women need this even on systemic estrogenNon-hormonal options when hormones aren't right• Newer medications targeting particular neurons in the hypothalamus (hot flash regulation)Things you can do and questions to askDr. Riedel's conversation offers practical starting points for women navigating this transition on their own or with a provider.01. Track your symptoms in relation to your cycleSleep disruption, anxiety, and mood changes that follow a cyclic pattern are often hormonal in origin. Note when in your cycle you feel worst because this information is gold for any provider visit.02. Ask your doctor to rule out thyroid and iron firstFatigue, brain fog, and sleep issues can also come from iron deficiency or thyroid dysfunction. Simple labs can clarify what you're actually dealing with before hormones enter the picture.03. Reconsider what's in your sleep toolkitAlcohol before bed worsens sleep, hot flashes, and anxiety, even though it feels like it helps. Benadryl/ZQuil, Ambien, and benzodiazepines disrupt true sleep architecture. CBT for insomnia has strong evidence and virtually zero side effects. 06. Consider this a second puberty — not a declineMidlife is a genuine developmental threshold. Dr. Riedel and Margaret Mead's concept of “postmenopausal zest” both point in the same direction: this can be a time of clarity, reclaimed energy, and real possibility if you get the support your body actually needs.REFERENCES & RESOURCES[Podcast] Kelly Casperson, MD — You Are Not BrokenUrologist and leading voice in the menopause space. Hook lying looks like the simplest position in the room. Knees bent, feet flat, lying on your back. Most practitioners use it as a default starting point without thinking about what it actually demands. That is a problem.Hook lying is an early propulsive position with a strong ER bias. Getting into it correctly requires medial foot contacts, a pelvis that can superimpose IR on ER, and a thorax that can expand without compensation. If your client cannot access those, you are not starting them in a safe easy position. You are starting them in a compensation. If you have ever told someone to flatten their back to the table or put a band around their knees in hook lying, this episode explains exactly why that works against you. What we cover:What hook lying actually represents as an early propulsive positionThe four ground contacts and why all of them matter equallyWhy posterior pelvic tilt cues drive compensation rather than resolve itHow to audit the position through breathing without over-cueingArchetype-specific coaching: narrow ISA versus wide ISAHow side-lying earns hook lying and what rolling is actually teachingWhere hook lying fits in the progression toward upright loaded movementLeave a comment: have you ever cued someone to flatten their back in hook lying and watched something get worse? Seclusion rooms have been used in Minnesota for decades, as a last-resort response to student behavioral issues in the classroom. The use of these solitary rooms was banned for some of the youngest learners statewide in 2023, after they were deemed harmful and ineffective. But now, the Minnesota Senate is considering reversing that ban for children in grade three and under until 2036. That's because, according to some administrators, schools need more time to plan alternatives to seclusion rooms. Minnesota School Psychologists Association President-elect Tascha Just joined MPR News host Nina Moini to share context on seclusion rooms and the conflict surrounding the ban.

Have you heard the myth in which Perseus takes Medusa's blood, said to be deadly from her left side and the ultimate healing elixir from her right? This duality connects to long-standing right/left spiritual traditions. Asclepius uses the healing blood to resurrect the dead until Zeus stops him by striking him into the constellation Ophiuchus, linked to sacred serpents and medicine. Segment 1 • Pope Leo's use of Matthew 25 misapplies God's Word by turning an individual mandate into a government policy. • Learn from Speaker Mike Johnson's calm, biblical approach to hostile media questions—and why his tone matters for every Christian. • Get a crash course on what the Bible actually says about borders, nations, assimilation, and the role of civil authority. Segment 2 • Watch progressives contradict their past positions on immigration through a shocking AI-generated political montage. • Laugh (and cringe) at a satirical skit where a liberal time-travels to kill Hitler—only to discover eerie ideological overlaps. • Understand how worldview—not just politics—drives modern shifts in culture and moral reasoning. Segment 3 • John Macarthur's heartfelt worship should be a lesson for us all. • Reconsider everything you assumed about the Puritans—especially their deep focus on the love of God. • Hear how a forgotten Puritan voice might be the encouragement you need today if your faith feels more fearful than joyful. Segment 4 • Explore why love, not just justice or wrath, is the central attribute behind God's redemption plan. • Let Octavius Winslow's rich theology flood your soul with hope, assurance, and a fresh view of God's heart. • Fear of God and love from God must coexist—together, they fuel worship, holiness, and evangelism. ___ Thanks for listening!
