Wine & Culture LA Season 2 is finally here and BOY are you in for a treat! We'll do wine tastings, interviews, and have some fun with every guest, so tell everybody who likes wine to tune in as we put a different spin on the wine game. This is Wine & Culture LA.
WINE is COMPLEX. Dev sits down with Complex Networks CEO & media genius Rich Antoniello to commemorate his 20 years at Complex, with a 2002 Penfolds Bin 389 Shiraz/Cab, from Australia's most famous winery. They teach you how to taste wine, and discuss how Complex does what it does, building an advertising empire, embracing change, and what wine is supposed to be. Don't miss this unreal conversation, and also find out who Rich thinks is the best rapper alive.
Lindsey Napela Berg (3-Time Olympian in Volleyball) joins Host & Sommelier Devin Reed as the 1st Female guest of Wine & Culture LA. They discuss her upbringing in Hawaii from the same alma mater as Barack Obama, advice for young female athletes as to what to expect for life after volleyball, and what it's like to be at the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Dev does an intro to the 2 wines: a 1992 Heitz Cellar Cabernet and a 2014 Heitz Cellar Martha's Vineyard Cabernet. Heitz Cellar is located in Napa Valley, now run by Carlton McCoy, 1 of 2 African-American Master Sommeliers in the entire United States.
You gon' learn today! Host & Sommelier Dev sits down with SuperBowl Champion (New York Giants) & 10-Year NFL Veteran Will Blackmon, aka the NFL Wine Guy, to open a wine that's almost 50 years old. It's a 1975 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Bordeaux by Andy Warhol. They will show you how to open this REALLY old bottle of wine without breaking the cork, and educate you on Mouton. They'll also discuss Will's NFL career, culture, music, and Will's new career as a certified sommelier.
Dev is back with a new episode dedicated to Kobe Bryant; James Beard Award-Winning ESPN Senior NBA Wine Writer Baxter Holmes, who covered Kobe for several years, joins Dev and tells an unforgettable story about the first NBA player he ever had wine with: Kobe. The story is unreal, and later Dev educates the audience on the similarities of two champagnes, while talking the NBA's obsession with wine, wine in the bubble, and the state of journalism in today's polarizing media atmosphere. This is Wine & Culture LA.
6 Female, Latino, and African-American Winemakers have their wines featured in Wine Over LA 2019, and Tuanni Price (Zuri Wine Tasting), Black Pedro (Savage AF Radio), & Dev taste them all while celebrating on the final day of the Wine Over LA weekend. Black Pedro, an established comedian, Princeton graduate, and Detroit native from the same high school as Big Sean, stays around afterward to talk with Dev about Detroit's past & present hip-hop culture. Family vibes all over this episode. Salute to all the diverse winemakers who made this event special.
There are only 2 Black Master Sommeliers in the entire United States; Carlton is one of them, beating the odds of being raised in Washington D.C. during the 80s crack epidemic and living the streetlife, to attending the Culinary Institute of America, becoming Wine Director at Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado, and being offered his current position, President & CEO of the legendary Heitz Cellar Winery in Napa Valley. This is a must-listen for anyone born into difficult odds.
The world lost a king when Nipsey Hussle passed away far too early in March 2019. Nip had a profound impact on the life of Actor, Writer, Producer & Comedian James Davis, who Nip mentored, and helped shape James' career. Dev & James sit down to talk Nip's music, life, and impact on hip-hop culture, while drinking one of Nip's favorite things to drink: Armand de Brignac Brut Champagne, aka Ace of Spades.
Episode 3 is Here! Dev sits down with 10-Year NBA Veteran Cuttino Mobley to talk about his favorite hip-hop artists from his native Philadelphia, as well as LA, the toughest left-handed player he ever had to play against, and his recent BIG3 Championship win, all while conducting the 1st ever filmed tasting of Drake & Brent Hocking's magical new champagne, Mod Selection Brut Reserve.
