LZ interviews actor Michael Urie on the podcast “You Are Beautiful,” beginning with playful banter and a lip-sync to “Don't Cry Out Loud,” which prompts Lawrence to share a personal memory of hearing the song as a closeted teen and how it shaped his connection to Michael's fearless public identity. Michael answers Lawrence's mirror question while doing press from The Daily Show green room, noting Shrinking has been renewed and joking about fixing a broken hot-water handle in his Upper West Side apartment. They discuss Michael's Texas roots in Plano, his early love of movies and storytelling inspired by Tim Burton, and how shyness led him to play alone with toys while inventing stories. Michael describes a key high-school turning point when a substitute and his teacher moved him into an advanced theater class, being pushed into Fiddler on the Roof due to a lack of boys, and realizing performance was for him after getting a big, repeatable laugh; he also competed in speech tournaments. Michael talks about coming out with support from his older queer sister, having dated girls in high school, and feeling that people in New York and at Juilliard made “intelligent assumptions” as he grew into himself. Lawrence shares his own later-in-life public coming-out and sobriety, and a Harrison Ford anecdote from Live with Regis and Kelly; Michael reflects on long careers, working with Harrison Ford on Shrinking (including the character's Parkinson's storyline), and how acting can evolve into old age, mentioning June Squibb. In rapid-fire topics, Michael discusses Ugly Betty: multiple auditions, Mark St. James originally intended only for the pilot, Vanessa Williams's generosity, and their on-set comedic collaboration; he highlights his proudest element—the bond between Mark and Justin Suarez and the storyline confronting Mark's mother. Asked for advice to queer youth in a difficult climate, Michael emphasizes “find the helpers,” chosen family, and that it's not worth expending energy trying to change people—find your tribe. He also reflects on stage work including Buyer & Cellar (hundreds of performances and famous attendees, though Barbra Streisand never came), Torch Song with Mercedes Ruehl, Once Upon a Mattress as an unexpected dream role, and the shocks and performances in Oh, Mary! with Jinkx Monsoon. The episode ends with Michael sharing that his relationship works because he and his partner listen to each other, and he completes Lawrence's closing prompt: he is beautiful because of the reflection of life he receives back—joy, humanity, and connection.Menu: 00:00 Pajamas, Popcorn & Finally Meeting Michael Urie01:04 Breaking the Ice: A Surprise Lip-Sync Challenge02:14 “Don't Cry Out Loud” Deep Dive: Music, Memories & Meaning04:06 Why This Podcast Exists: Beauty, COVID Reset & Fearless Living05:54 A Camp Crush & Learning to Hide Feelings07:19 Mirror Question: Pride, Sobriety & Where You Are Today07:53 Press Day Wins & Upper West Side Life (and No Hot Water)10:51 Texas Roots: Plano, Two-Stepping & Oil Can Harry's12:46 The Spark to Perform: Movies, Toys, Theater Class & Getting the Laugh18:52 Coming Out Journeys: Family Support, Julliard & Finding Your Person25:05 Was I Born for This? Don and Dude keep the “I Love the 80s” tour rolling into 1984, when country music drifted back toward rootsy storytelling while heavy metal hit MTV in full glam mode. One of us spins a mother–daughter country debut rooted in acoustic instruments, Appalachian harmonies, and front‑porch intimacy, while the other cranks a Sunset Strip glam‑metal breakthrough of twin‑guitar riffs and big, arena‑ready hooks. Together, the albums show how 1984's country and metal both chased the mainstream yet stayed grounded in specific worlds: Kentucky kitchens and family conversations on one side, Hollywood alleys and neon‑lit clubs on the other. The AlbumsThe Judds – Why Not Me (1984) Naomi and Wynonna Judd's debut full‑length turns years of hard knocks and Nashville hustling into a lean set of neotraditional country songs that feel both radio‑ready and personal. Producer Brent Maher keeps the sound warm and spare, letting their harmonies carry stories of underdog longing, steady devotion, and working‑woman joy that helped nudge country back toward front‑porch intimacy.Ratt – Out of the Cellar (1984) Ratt's major‑label debut is a hook‑packed glam‑metal statement, mixing Sunset Strip grit with big choruses and Beau Hill's punchy production. Powered by Warren DeMartini and Robbin Crosby's dual guitars and Stephen Pearcy's raspy sneer, it turned “Round and Round” into an MTV staple and helped lock in the sound and look of mid‑80s glam metal.Diggin' AlbumsMegadeth – Megadeth (2026) Billed as their final studio album, this set folds classic Megadeth riffage into more reflective songs about age, legacy, and closing a long thrash chapter.Tina Turner – Private Dancer (1984) A towering comeback that blends rock grit, pop hooks, and R&B drama, anchored by a run of hits and Tina's mix of scars, power, and polish.PVA – No More Like This (2026) The London trio's second album pushes their dance‑punk into more tactile, exploratory territory, blurring club, bedroom, and art‑school energies.Squeeze – Trixies (2026) Squeeze finally cut songs first written in 1974, turning old cassette‑era ideas into a nightclub‑set concept piece full of wry, grown‑up pop storytelling.Follow & Support Follow the show on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky @albumnerds, and support by subscribing, rating, reviewing, and sharing.“This was a music I had never heard. A Winter Tradition Takes Root Frederick County's beloved Restaurant Week returns for its fifth anniversary, bringing 26 diverse eateries together for a week-long celebration of local flavor. Running from January 26th through February 1st, 2026, FredCo Eats has evolved from a modest 15-restaurant launch into a cornerstone event that strengthens the entire regional food economy. In this episode of The Valley Today, host Janet Michael welcomes Wendy May, Marketing Manager for the Frederick County Economic Development Authority, and Dan Myers, owner of Paladin Bar and Grill, to discuss how this initiative has transformed the local dining landscape. Recording from Paladin's original Stephens City location, the trio explores what makes this year's event particularly special. From COVID Recovery to Community Catalyst The story behind FredCo Eats reveals a strategic response to challenging times. Wendy explains that the Economic Development Authority launched the program five years ago as the region emerged from the pandemic. At that time, the organization recognized a critical gap in their community relationships—they needed stronger connections with local restaurants and agricultural producers. Rather than creating a standalone event, however, the EDA developed FredCo Eats as an umbrella brand. This approach allows the initiative to serve as a messaging hub that elevates existing efforts across the entire food economy, from farm crawls to agricultural conferences. Now, the brand is expanding into a standalone website at fredcoeats.com, which will launch in March as a comprehensive resource for anyone looking to start, scale, or expand a food or beverage business in the region. Diverse Dining Options for Every Palate This year's lineup demonstrates remarkable variety in both cuisine and participation style. Restaurants can choose from three categories: multi-course menus, meal deals, or promotional discounts. This flexibility ensures that food trucks, cafes, and fine dining establishments can all participate in ways that make sense for their operations. Among the multi-course menu participants, diners will find Carrabba's Italian Grill, Clem's Kitchen, Curry Cuisine, P2 at Woolen Mill, Paladin, Sal & Gino's, and Vault and Cellar. Meanwhile, meal deal options include Blue Ridge Baking Company, Daily Buzz Cafe (at both Middletown and Stephens City locations), Donut Dive food truck at Weber's Nursery, and Franklin's Smokin Barnyard, also operating from Weber's parking lot. Additionally, the roster features Jordan Springs Market, Laurel Cafe at Laurel Ridge Community College, Mi Ranchito, Paco's Market and Paco's Mexi Mart, Pan D Endz Jamaican Cuisine, Poblanos, Shaffer's Barbecue and Market, both Shawnee Springs Market locations, and West Oaks Farm Market. Rounding out the list, Bam Bam's Barbecue food truck, Italian Touch, and Touch of Italy offer percentage-off promotions. The Original Gangsters Eight establishments have participated every single year since the program's inception, demonstrating their commitment to the community initiative. Both Paladin locations, Vault and Cellar, Daily Buzz, Jordan Springs Market, Paco's Market, Shaffer's Barbecue, and Bam Bam's Barbecue have been there from day one. Paco's journey particularly exemplifies the growth Restaurant Week has witnessed. Starting as a food truck called Paco's Tacos during the first event, the business has since expanded to include Paco's Market and later Paco's Mexi Mart - a testament to how local food businesses can thrive with community support. Local Sourcing Takes Center Stage Dan shares his enthusiasm about this year's special approach at Paladin. For the fifth anniversary, his team is focusing heavily on local sourcing, partnering with West Oaks Farm Market for beef, Spring Valley Greens, obtaining mushrooms from his cousin Jessica Neff at Apple Hill Farm, and incorporating microgreens from Robbie D's operation. Furthermore, Dan reveals that Paige Cross at Farm to Fork (formerly Flour and Water) in Woodstock supplies all the bread for Paladin's restaurants—a behind-the-scenes collaboration that many diners never realize exists. These partnerships not only enhance menu quality but also circulate dollars throughout the local economy. The Stephens City location will feature meatballs, cast-iron cornbread, and locally sourced ingredients, while P2 in Clearbrook will offer a completely different, yet similar menu, including scotch eggs, bruschetta, mushroom carbonara, and duck—proteins that rarely appear on local menus. More Than Just a Meal Restaurant Week offers participants the chance to win prizes through a passport program. Diners who collect stamps from three or more participating restaurants can enter drawings for prize packs, with each additional stamp beyond three counting as an extra entry. The more restaurants you visit, the better your chances of winning. Passports are available for download and printing at fredcoeats.com, with limited physical copies available at participating restaurants and the Winchester Frederick County Convention and Visitors Bureau. If diners forget to get a stamp, they can submit a photo or receipt as proof of their visit. Beyond individual participation, the event encourages businesses to support one another. Realty companies and other local businesses often bring lunch back to the office or take their teams out during Restaurant Week, creating a "biz-to-biz" camaraderie that strengthens the entire community. Strategic Timing and Lasting Impact The decision to schedule Restaurant Week during the last week of January proves strategic on multiple levels. This timing addresses the natural lull that restaurants experience after the holiday season but before Valentine's Day, providing a much-needed boost during slower months. Moreover, it gives diners a compelling reason to venture out during cold, dark winter evenings when staying home feels more appealing. For restaurant owners like Dan, the event creates exciting internal dynamics as well. His teams at the Stephens City and Clearbrook locations engage in friendly competition throughout the week, tracking which location sells more of each menu item. This competitive spirit energizes staff and drives creativity in menu development. Wendy notes that over the five years, Restaurant Week has fostered genuine relationships among participating restaurants. What began as simple cross-promotion has evolved into restaurant owners visiting each other's establishments, trying menus, meeting staff, and building lasting professional connections that extend well beyond the event itself. Looking Ahead As FredCo Eats enters its sixth year of planning, the initiative continues expanding its mission. The upcoming fredcoeats.com website will serve as a central hub connecting aspiring food entrepreneurs with resources from the county, state, and federal levels, including financing options, contacts at the Extension office, the Small Business Development Center, and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This evolution reflects the program's broader vision: creating a sustainable ecosystem where homesteaders can learn to scale their backyard operations, food trucks can transition to brick-and-mortar locations, and established restaurants can continue growing—all while maintaining the unique character that makes Frederick County's food scene special. Registration for future Restaurant Weeks remains open year-round, with the event consistently scheduled for the last Monday of January. As Wendy emphasizes, the more the community supports local establishments, the more these businesses can thrive and maintain the distinctive flavor that sets Frederick County apart. For complete menus, participating restaurant details, and passport downloads, visit fredcoeats.com and follow the event on Facebook and Instagram using #FredCoEats and #FredCoEatsRW.

I attended Chad Thompson's talk at the SOVA Rise Entrepreneur Summit last October about business planning, I didn't tell him this, but it wasn't a talk that I thought really pertained to me, since I didn't really have a business to market so to speak; something drew me to it- and I'm so glad I listened to that! Chad mentioned something about the business plan that I had never heard or even thought about before, and honestly I didn't hear much after that. I've been guilty of thinking the business plan was lame. I felt like he was speaking directly to me; I didn't quite know how I'd pitch him to be my podcast guest, or how the conversation would actually go, but I did, and he said yes. And I'm so very glad it all worked out (I took a couple of weeks to actually email him, and my email ended up in his spam), because this conversation with Chad just felt beautiful.Chad and his wife own The Book Cellar, a used book store in Abingdon, VA - their mission is to make literacy affordable, and they wanted to do things differently, and it has worked very well! He talks about why the store is so successful, and shares some pretty incredible stories that show how they're making it all work after only 2 1/2 years, and creating a supportive community in the process. Text us your wine questions, craziest wine experiences, or if you just have a comment for us. . This one is a bit controversial in some ways. One of the criticisms I've heard levelled against the industry in the Okanagan is that a lot of us have 'cellar palate'. In my travels across Canada, I have not noticed this topic in conversation as much in Ontario as I have noticed in British Columbia. Essentially, 'cellar palate' happens when a winery employee 'becomes too acclimatized to their own wines or those of their neighbours'. (See Jancis Robinson's article that I mentioned in the podcast here.) Basically, they start to judge wines from other regions or styles based on their own wines. I've met plenty of people who only like BC wine and won't try anything else. I did a podcast a long time ago where everyone was supposed to bring a bottle of their favourite wines and one person brought a wine from the winery where they worked, which was against my one and only rule that we never pumped our own wineries' brands (the ones where we all worked) on the podcast. I've been susceptible to it as well. I totally recall not liking any white wines that I tasted from Washington State in 2010 when I attended the Wine Blogger's Conference in Walla Walla. They all tasted flabby to me - not enough acidity. Of course, even then after only 3 years living in the Okanagan, I was used to the higher acid wines in BC. It took time to appreciate the lower-acid wines from Washington State. So, enjoy this discussion and tasting that features three wines tasted blind. It's a long episode but worth listening all the way through. Welcome to the Sipsters Podcast! Thank you for listening to the Sipster's Podcast. Find us online at sipsters.ca. In this episode of Crime Bit with Danelle Hallan, we revisit the cold case of 21-year-old Carol Roth, whose life was shaken by a late-night break-in at the Delta Zeta house in 1974 and ended the following winter after a walk home in Normal, Illinois. From the campus hangout known as The Cellar to the frantic hours when Carol was found and rushed for care, police build their theory around a key sighting and a composite sketch that will steer the case for decades. In Part 1, Danelle traces the timeline to Christmas 1975 and the first choices that left Carol's family without answers.

You might not be able to find these exact bottles, but you can definitely get the regular American Single Malt from 10th Mtn and the regular Blanco from Cambio (which the boys cannot recommend enough). So scoop 'em up, invite your friends, listen and sip along, and as always: Make It A Happy Friday!™

Send us a textA Galway street corner, a chance hello to Adam Duritz, and a sunglasses-off moment with Courtney Cox set the scene before we pour something special: Maker's Mark Cellar Aged 2025. We start with the nostalgia and then zero in on why this release feels different—same mash bill, new dimension—thanks to a cool limestone cellar that slows the dance between spirit and wood.We break down what matters for your glass. The blend leans 74% 11-year with 13- and 14-year components at 112.9 proof, and the profile announces itself on the nose with brown sugar, cinnamon, toasted oak, and that apple-pie cozy note. On the palate, it turns decadent but never cloying: orange and cherry like an old fashioned, chocolate and toasted almond like a pastry, and enough spice to remind you it's nearly 113 proof. The fruit shows up earlier than you'd expect from a wheated bourbon, while leather and tobacco stay in the background. If you've only known standard Maker's as sweet and light, this one bends the arc toward depth and balance. We also talk price, timing, and how to find a pour without burning your budget. MSRP lands at $175, with some secondary lift, so we tested by the ounce first—a move we recommend. Bigger retailers and smart whiskey bars will be your best bet, and if you spot it near retail, we'd grab it. Our ratings land strong, and we call it a top contender for year-end lists, especially for drinkers who want a dessert-ready sipper that doesn't need ice or a mixer to shine. If this kind of fruit-forward, cellar-shaped wheated bourbon sounds like your lane, come taste it with us, compare notes, and tell us what you're getting in the finish. Subscribe for more pours, share with a friend who underestimates Maker's, and leave a quick review so others can find the show. What bottle should we chase next?
As we ramp up our festive preparations we've dug around in the cellar to find some episodes that just feel right for this time of year - over the next few weeks you can expect some Panto shenanigans (oh yes you can!), some Strictly magic and THE king of Christmas music. First up - it's one of the signs that it's nearly Christmas... I'm A Celebrity on the TV! We're taking you back to last year - when Reverend Richard Coles won the nation's heart in the Australian jungle. If your tree's not up already - why not get yourself in the festive mood and listen to this sermon - from the pop star turned vicar - Reverend Richard Coles. Cheers Hosted on Acast. Some houses grow up with you. Others grow darker. On the surface, it was everything a kid could want: a big yard, an old swing, and endless trees to play in. But beneath the floorboards waited a basement he was never meant to explore—a low stone space where the hatch slammed on its own, the light vanished, and something in the dark laughed softly behind him. Years later, the basement fear climbed the stairs. Night after night, slow footsteps crept toward his room, stopping just outside the door… until the night he finally looked and saw a black, hanging shape attached to the ceiling, blocking the doorway like a living shadow. Was it the same thing that had chased him up from the cellar, or something the house had always kept hidden? Some childhood homes stay in your memories. Welcome to White Wine Question Time; the podcast that asks it's guests three thought-provoking questions over three glasses of wine. Today, we're heading back down to the cellar for another episode from the archives, and as part of our mini literature festival we're holding this month, it's from another bestselling author... My guest today has written more than a hundred books, and is also a broadcaster, a knitwear designer, a former politician, and a celebrated raconteur.Having become well-known on breakfast television in the 80s, in no small part thanks tohis choice of knitwear, he's been a mainstay on TV shows like The One Show,Countdown, Celebrity Gogglebox, This Morning, and Radio 4's Just a Minute. He was also the host of the award-winning Something Rhymes with Purple podcast with Susie Dent, and on his latest pod, Rosebud he talks to famous and fascinating people about their first experiences. This is the last of our November authors - I hope you've enjoyed this look back - and for December we've lined up some festive episodes designed to put you in the perfect mood for Christmas. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Each week, in addition to a brand new episode, we delve into our back catalogue to serve up a vintage episode from our cellar. All this month we're choosing from our excellent selection of authors - a mini literature festival if you will. Today it's Donna Ashworth - a Scottish poet who shot to stardom during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since been credited with revitalising a national interest in poetry. So as the weather takes a turn for the worse why not snuggle in and treat yourself to 45 minutes of something inspiring. I hope you enjoy this episode - and we'll see you back here for a brand new interview next time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In 1855, when women and children began disappearing from Choctaw settlements in Oklahoma, a band of thirty warriors led by Joshua LeFlore rode out to hunt down the kidnappers. It supposedly did happen in real life and I'll tell you the story! (The Leflore County Bigfoot War) *** The body of 25-year-old Jason Chase was found several weeks after he had gone missing – but the cause of his death was a mystery to everyone for almost twenty years. (The Eerie Death of Hiker Jason Chase) *** There are people in life that you just would rather not deal with. Wouldn't be great if you could just put them on ice and let some other future generation deal with that person? Well, aside from the morally unacceptable actions you'd have to take to make that happen, the technology for doing so might not be too far away. Some of the ulta-wealthy are making plans to be brought back to life later, or to live for a very long time, or… even to be immortal. (How The Super Rich Plan To Live Forever) *** Soon after moving into their quaint Massachusetts country home in 1981, Lui and Dale Passetto encountered a force of pure evil that almost destroyed them and their family. (The Passetto Family Possession) *** On August 29, 1890, a 16-year-old boy named Otto Lueth was hanged at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Columbus. He had been tried and convicted of the murder of Maggie Thompson, age 9 – a murder for which he had shown no remorse. It is a sad and tragic story… but also one of utter horror.
