Today I'm joined by commander luminary and fellow CAG member Adam Styborski, affectionately known as Stybs.
In this episode, Nick and Zak interview Adam Styborski, one of six members of the newly formed Commander Advisory Group (CAG). Learn about Adam's Commander philosophy, his priorities as a CAG member, and his stance on some of the format's most controversial topics, including his personal preferences on what cards should be banned/unbanned.Follow Commander Theory on Tumblr and Twitter for more Commander content! If you like our podcast, please support us on Patreon!Follow Adam Styborski on Twitter!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/commandertheory)

Adrian's off for this week because Mike has to settle up on a bet. Adam Styborski is one of the faces of pauper cubing and has been for almost a decade. In this episode Mike pokes and prods at the ins and outs of pauper cubing, and asks Adam to reflect on years of experience tweaking his preferred limited fixings Adams Site: http://thepaupercube.com/ Adam on Twitter: https://twitter.com/the_stybs The Pauper Cube Discord: http://discord.gg/VnvEvft Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/colorcommontaryYou Can Buy Playmats with our Logo on them here: https://www.inkedgaming.com/collections/artists/color-commontaryFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ColorCommontaryLike us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/colorcommontary/Website: http://colorcommontary.com/Our theme song is courtesy of Ell, whose music is available at http://soundcloud.net/ellellell
How do you feel about netdecking? Are you mad as hell that people are getting their deck ideas from the internet?! Do you have the spirit of Howard Beale prodding you to the window to scream, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this netdecking any more!" Or... do you feel that netdecking is simply a good tool for building decks? Getting decks lists or ideas from the web is often a topic of discussion, and it came up on discussion boards recently when Adam Styborski wrote about what the data from EDHRec shows about card usage. Check out his article . There are cards that are obvious inclusions when we are building a commander deck. Then there are those cards that we maybe don't naturally think about without some online help. Andy and Kyle take a look at a few cards in each color that maybe aren't the most used, but that are hard to deal with cards and come up frequently enough in netdeck references that you probably see them regularly. Andy then gives us some good ways to deal with those cards, so that we can all be ready to deal with netdecked ideas. We're super grateful that Home lets us use his sweet beats. This episode's intro/outro music is from Home's Resting State album, track # 4. Look up his tunes on . Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! .
In this episode, bigheadjoe is joined by Gathering Magic boss, Wizard's coverage team member, pauper cube expert and all-around awesome guy Adam Styborski to go deeper into the cube discussion from last week's show.
This week’s episode comes from episode 83 of Brainstorm Brewery with guest host Adam Styborski (@the_stybs). Jason and Corbin inquire about how to make a fun yet powerful EDH deck. Corbin gives his reasons for playing Combo elements in his decks. Jason is still looking to find the perect 75% EDH deck. Adam see red...
Adam Styborski works harder than you. Between his marketing gig at Geico, traveling to tournaments for Wizards, managing GatheringMagic.com, being a dad and a husband, and the laundry, he’s a busy guy. We meant to meet up to cast from DC, but I was thwarted by a faulty piece of equipment. Instead, we spoke over Skype about being an asshole, our “guys,” and what you actually do with a math degree. As always, send feedback to me on Twitter @mattmendoza or via email acrossthetablecast@gmail.com. Also, please leave the podcast a review on iTunes, it helps get it out there. Follow the cast @acrossthecast for updates and new episodes. And don't forget to leave me a comment on ManaDeprived.com! Thanks for listening!
We are joined this week by none other than Adam Styborski! He's @the_stybs on Twitter. For those of you that don't know...what rock have you been living under? He's the (former) writer for Serious Fun on DailyMTG, the current writer of the brand new Commander column Command Tower on DailyMTG, he's on the text coverage team for Wizards, and he's all about some Pauper Cube. Oh yeah, he's the Content Manager for GatheringMagic too. But he joins us this week to tell us all about Command Tower, how it came about, what you can expect, and assorted other things. Really, Stybs just talks on and on about whatever we throw in his direction for a good long time, and it was really awesome. You can REALLY feel how much he loves Commander as a format. He even brought a tear to my eye at one point. That could have been my roommate's cooking though...After we had drained Stybs dry of his soul...I mean information...we still had PLENTY of news to talk about. Rather than list it all here and then list it all again down there...we're just gonna put it down there. We are eschewing the usual April Fool's nonsense this year here on The Mana Pool. Yes I know you guys look forward to it every year (except perhaps Shred Memory) but it really gets harder and harder to come up with new original ideas. So this time, instead of doing something weird (er than usual) we decided to just have a hell of a good episode! It's guest stars galore on this one! At various points throughout the episode we had Cluze from Card Advantage (@lacluyze), Bryan Prillaman (@BryanPrillaman) from JudgeCast (and Avant-Card Show of course) and we even managed to dig up our old buddy Eric of Many Names (@EricMTGCast)! We even had Adam Styborski (@the_stybs) on, by virtue of a few off-the-cuff bumpers he recorded for us at GP Charlotte! We discuss everything from Prillaman's torried relationship with Claire (nonexistant) to what's REALLY under Mike's beard! Due to the completely bizarre nature of this show, there's not really a main topic exactly, just a bunch of dorks having fun talking about whatever there is to talk about! We hope you guys enjoy! So here it is, the long-awaited Grand Prix Charlotte episode! Chewie is there with the digital recorder, capturing everything just after it happens! Mike, Brian, Bill (@SqueeGoblnNabob) and JT (@NerdPop140) are basically always nearby, and Jonathan Harvell, Kevin Baldwin (@TaureanMauler) & his lovely wife Angie, and Lyall Alfred (@NewSpectrum) make guest appearances whenever they're nearby. We talk about our records, the decks we're playing, the people we've met, the Goldrush, funny stuff, stupid stuff, how hungry we are, how tired we are, and how AWESOME the whole thing is!There are also a few special cameos, most notably Mike Flores (@fivewithflores), Adam Styborski (@the_Stybs), and...you know what? It's really late and I can't remember who was on this show and who was just on the MTGCast part. So you'll just have to listen to find out all this stuff. HA! This episode is packed! We start off with our traditional post-rotation discussion. I'm not sure why we do this, not being Standard players for the most part and being a casual podcast, but we always do and we've always gotten positive feedback about it. So here it is again! Did you realize that something besides Squadron Hawk rotated out? I didn't either!Keeping with this Standard-centric topic, we then move to a quick discussion about the first couple of SCG Open with the new Standard. It's amazing what these people are doing nowadays! Oh, and there are new Innistrad Event Decks to discuss. That sounds like a full show right there, but we're not even close to done yet! There's a new format that's been making the rounds lately, Horde Magic. It was introduced to me by SkeetWo, a listener named Justin, when I met him at Curio Cavern in Springfield VA. It was a blast when I played the Horde with him, so I wanted to introduce it to my cohosts. Of course, since we recorded this it's been all over the place, including an article by Stybs on the mothership (where he also mentioned another favorite of the show, Respawn Magic). Links for those are right here:Peter Knudson: http://www.quietspeculation.com/2011/09/horde-magic-a-new-way-to-play-magic-and-survive-zombie-invasions/Adam Styborski: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/sf/165And that's not even the whole show! Dirk had the brilliant (no really, no sarcasm at all) idea to talk about art. Good art, bad art, creepy art, whatever. And this led to the most fun discussion we've had in a while. We picked out some stuff that was great, some stuff that was ridiculous, and we finally solved the long-standing mystery of what happened to Baron Sengir's legs. Chewie here. I got home from a long trip to find that my computer wasn't working...20 minutes before recording was supposed to start. After trying to coax it back to life, I gave up and had to drive to Mike's place, forgetting to bring the microphone with me. I also had to get food or I was going to die. That's how this episode started. That also explains why I didn't know what episode we were on at the beginning, give me a break. But enough discussion! This episode is all Innistrad previews, all the time! We touch on every new card that had been shown since our last recording, this time with another special guest! Adam Styborski joins us once again to interject random hilarity throughout the episode. After a bit of email and some news (including our long-lost interview with Amanda, which can now be found on Red Site Wins), we are joined by two very special guest hosts. No longer do we need wonder if these two are actually one and the same person, because I heard them both talking at the same time! Our two special guests are none other than the returning Adam Styborski and first time guest but long-time dork Chris Lansdell. If you want to find more about our guests, consult the links below. With introductions out of the way, we proceeded to talk about the various M12 events we attended, which included a vicious bad beats story from Stybs. After spending some time on M12 as a whole, we decided to do a Story Circle with our hosts. Apparently Chris does this a lot, since he ripped off the idea for his own show. But that means a better deck for all involved, right? We started with Pyromancy, and it just went out of control from there. With all the cards we rattled off, there's a wonderful starting place for all you deckbuilders out there. Probably three or four starting places, actually. From here the discussion went far afield, covering such random topics as planking, scrapple, old Hot Pockets commercials, and Billy Madison. I really wish I was making this up. We are joined this week by a very special guest, Adam Styborski. He writes the Serious Fun column for the mothership, he writes for GatheringMagic, he's the Casual Editor over at Quiet Speculation, and he writes a Pauper Cube blog. Then we all discussed the New Phyrexia Prerelease, which most of us ended up attending. One of us was gunslinging, can you guess which one? After that, we did one of our nonsensical but fun Magic Mad Libs! And yes, Stybs helped out! Then we started talking about Equipment. Which ones we love, which ones are awesome, which ones are awesome for multiplayer. Whatever we could think of. Adam had some especially interesting things to say on this topic, so pay attention.
