Welcome back to The Round Table! This week, our hosts Kassandra, Sauda, and Viola sit down with Christopher Albert De La Roa, Web Producer and Content Manager at DoSomething.org. Christopher shares his personal background in art and activism as an independent broadcaster, media and content producer, storyteller, and self proclaimed “student of the absurd.”Reflecting on his upbringing, witnessing injustice and facing family struggles Christopher discusses how he found both escape and empowerment through art. He shares his take on the evolving role of social media as a “double-edged sword,” offering thoughtful advice on how to navigate content creation and consumption. He also highlights the artists who have broken through societal barriers to bring forward stories that reflect the experiences of often overlooked communities.Together, the group dives into media films, books, and more that portray marginalized groups with care, as well as those that miss the mark. Christopher emphasizes the importance not just of which stories get told, but who gets to tell them, and how that shapes the broader cultural narrative. The conversation rounds out with a powerful discussion on the role of humor in healing, the impact of activism on education and careers, and the need to move beyond fear, seek support, and speak your truth. Listen in to find out why that matters and how to begin.

ATFT is back! On the thirty- ninth episode of All the Film Things, I talked with Black female filmmaker Shanita Brown! Shanita Brown is an award- winning Daytona-based filmmaker who has written and directed nine films so far. She has had quite a journey getting to where she is today. For one thing, she initially pursued a career in law with her passion being to help people. Even though she earned both Bachelor's and Masters law degrees, Shanita's life took a different route, and she found herself helping people through film instead. Before making her own films, Shanita worked in various roles on and off camera for ten years. In 2022, she released her first short film “Mine Since Birth” which had a successful film festival run. Ever since, she has continued to make her own short films, star and/ or work behind the scenes. In March 2023, Shanita was one of eight women honored at the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum in New Smyrna Beach for their reception centered on "Young Women to Set Your Sight On". She is also the Content Manager for the streaming service Gen X TV and was recently named the manager of the Cinematique theater in Daytona. Shanita's latest project is the drama short, “Tha Bone Collecta”. The short, inspired by real life, is focused around a group of close, longtime friends. One friend in the group, Shanita's character Laura Queen, learns the secrets of individuals within the group and causes drama by revealing it to other friends, making her “the bone collecta”. For this project, Shanita directed, wrote, starred in, and produced the film. While the film stars a great ensemble of women, this is the first time Shanita has starred as the lead in one of her own films! “Tha Bone Collecta” has just begun its film festival run and is expected to release on Gen X TV once the festival run is finished! The film will be having a premiere on Saturday, April 12 at the AMC Altamonte near Orlando, Florida, so if you're in the area or want to make the trip, go to the premiere! While you're waiting for “Tha Bone Collecta” to be available on streaming, check out some of Shanita's past work on Gen X TV and the Shanita Brown Films Youtube channel by clicking this link!: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC92QB5m4bFUYvj4IEHMuqJw Shanita loves connecting with filmmakers so if you want to work with her, reach out to her on Instagram @ShanitaABrown on Instagram or follow her on Facebook under her name Shanita A. Brown! This is Shanita's first appearance on ATFT! We met working together on the set of the short film "Time Will Tell" (alongside past ATFT guests Vesta Millard and Manny Plaza- Fernandez)! From our first conversation, I gained so much from talking with her. Aside from one, admittedly, hilarious prank she pulled on me, she was so kind and I always looked forward to coming to set just to converse with her. We instantly connected and Shanita is without a doubt one of the best people I've been fortunate enough to meet on set. I had been wanting to interview her ever since I met her but I waited until the very end of the shoot to ask her which made for a funny moment at dinner after word got out about my podcast. There were a few technical difficulties in regard to the audio so I apologize that it is not the same quality as usual. This episode was recorded on March 20, 2025. In this episode, Shanita shares her journey from initially aspiring to become a lawyer to working in the industry to making her own films. Filmmakers will especially benefit from Shanita's stories and mindset navigating the industry. Shanita also talks about her love of Halle Berry, having no fear when it comes to the horror genre, working with Brad Pitt on his new film F1, and her biggest- and perhaps surprising- career goal. All this and much more on the latest episode of All the Film Things! Background music created and used with permission by the Copyright Free Music - Background Music for Videos channel on YouTube.

An episode that dives deep! Here's what's in store for today's episode: * Recently, SpongeBob's voice actor, Tom Kenny, confirmed that SpongeBob is explicitly an autistic character—surprising absolutely no one!* Our hosts kick off the episode by exploring the autistic life and childhood of the show's creator, Stephen Hillenburg, who developed SPINs (special interests) in marine life and Jacques Cousteau as early as age six.* During Hillenburg's time at the Orange County Marine Institute, he created the character Bob the Sponge and wrote The Intertidal Zone, though he faced challenges in getting the book published.* After that, he dove headfirst into his other SPIN—animation—working as an assistant on well-known cartoons before landing a role at a then-small channel called Nickelodeon.* While working on the 90s Nicktoon Rocko's Modern Life, Hillenburg crossed paths with voice actor Tom Kenny. The two collaborated seamlessly, and as we know, Kenny would later become the iconic voice of SpongeBob.* SpongeBob SquarePants debuted as Nickelodeon's first original Saturday morning cartoon on May 1, 1999, achieving massive success. It quickly surpassed Pokémon as the top Saturday morning cartoon. By 2002, the show boasted an audience of 61 million viewers, including 20 million adults aged 18 to 49.* In 2002, Hillenburg wanted to end production of the show, but Nickelodeon saw it as far too lucrative to stop. He left after the release of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in 2004 but returned to work on the show from Season 9 until his passing. SpongeBob SquarePants remains a wildly successful cartoon, still airing new episodes on Nickelodeon 25 years later.* Stephen Hillenburg was known for valuing his privacy and leading a quiet life. However, his autistic sense of justice was evident through his philanthropic efforts, particularly his work with the United Plankton Charitable Trust, which supported environmental and marine conservation initiatives.* Tragically, in 2017, Hillenburg was diagnosed with ALS, a disease that has also been linked to autism.* The character of SpongeBob is like a walking DSM-5 autism diagnosis checklist. He struggles with reading social cues, doesn't realize when he's being bothersome, and while he can be annoying at times, his genuine nature makes him endearing.* SpongeBob also exhibits many other autistic traits, such as having meltdowns, struggling to learn to drive, taking things literally, and showcasing astute problem-solving skills.* SpongeBob also has a special interest in his job as a fry cook, making him the happiest workaholic on television. His passion for flipping Krabby Patties and dedication to his work shine through in every episode, showcasing his deep focus and enthusiasm for what he loves.* We then dive into the legendary career of Tom Kenny, SpongeBob's iconic voice actor. With a prolific career in voice acting, Tom has brought characters to life in cartoons like Rocko's Modern Life, Adventure Time, The Powerpuff Girls, Transformers, and many more. His versatility and talent have made him one of the most beloved figures in animation.* The autistic-coded traits that Tom Kenny exhibits have had a significant influence on his portrayal of SpongeBob, a character he has explicitly stated is autistic. Kenny's unique approach to SpongeBob's voice, humor, and mannerisms brings a depth to the character that resonates with many in the autistic community.* Sami, our Content Manager (who is autistic and dyspraxic), noticed clear traits of dyspraxia and motor skills difficulties in Patrick, especially in the episode where he's training at the Krusty Krab. Patrick struggles with tasks like mopping and opening jar lids, which reflect the challenges many with dyspraxia face. What's truly heartwarming is how SpongeBob consistently helps Patrick, never giving up on him during the training—showcasing the importance of patience, support, and friendship.* Listen to the episode for a deep dive into how SpongeBob SquarePants portrays neurodivergent traits, and how characters like SpongeBob and Patrick provide meaningful representation and support in ways that resonate with many autistic and neurodivergent viewers!“When we see someone autistic like SpongeBob, we just kind of know it. We kind of don't need to talk to SpongeBob's mom. Thanks. Got it. ” - Angela“One of the joys of being autistic is that we vibe with other people. We have a sixth sense where we are very bottom-up data processors. We do a phenomenon that is referred to as matrixing, where we unconsciously grab a whole bunch of variables and throw them together to get a picture - which is why autistic people are so easily able to identify other autistic people, but neurotypical people have no idea what to make of us and we're strange mysterious cryptids from the woods. So, yeah.” - Matt In this episode, we dive deep into the world of everyone's favorite sponge, SpongeBob, and explore how his character is an unintentionally perfect portrayal of autism. From his social struggles to his unique problem-solving skills, we examine the traits that make him both endearing and relatable to the autistic community. Join Matt and Angela as they unpack how SpongeBob's world reflects the real-life experiences of many autistic individuals, and share your thoughts with us using #AutisticCultureCatch on social media.

Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 681 Wellness + Wisdom Podcast Host and Wellness Force Media CEO, Josh Trent, is joined in person by our Content Manager, Mar, at our podcast studio in Austin to explore how the scarcity mindset gets ingrained in our psyche during childhood and what we can do to shift to abundance. If you'd like us to cover a topic that's close to your heart in the next AMA episode, record your message HERE. Listen To Episode 681 As Josh Trent Answers Your Questions [00:00] Intro What's up, everybody? It's Josh Trent. Welcome back to the podcast. This is a special video AMA and I have someone really, really amazing that I want to introduce you to. You've heard her on other AMAs. Her name is Mar. She's from an island in the middle of the ocean. And I'm not going to lie. I'm jealous because I miss the ocean out here in Texas. Mar, welcome to the studio. It's so good to be here. It doesn't feel real. It feels real to me because we've been cold plunging. We've been sauna-ing. We've been working out together. It's been epic. And so we actually get to walk the talk today. [02:15] Money Wound Do you have a money wound? And I say that with respect to right in reverence because a money wound is truly a wound. It's this imprint that our mom or dad or somebody in our family that we loved or cared about. They basically just told us that money is bad. Money doesn't grow on trees. And the only way you make money is by taking of other people. It's just absolute insanity. Yet there's a part of our deep psyche that believed it at that time. And I think what everybody can hold onto here is the truth around poverty and wealth. I believe, and I flash back to an episode that we produced with Dan Martell, where he said, you'll never earn more than a penny that think you're worth. So just let that land for a minute. You'll never earn more than a penny of what you think you're worth. So if you think you're worth 10 bucks an hour, life will give you that. You ain't gonna make much more than that. If you think you're worth 100 bucks an hour, eventually you'll develop the skills and the ways of being in order to call that in because nature hates a vacuum... [08:20] Money Is a Byproduct of Self-Worth There's two wolves in a parable in the Native culture, and one wolf is jealous and greedy and fearful, and the other wolf is loving and giving and trustworthy. And this Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson, and the grandson was fascinated by this parable. He's like, well, grandfather, which wolf wins? Which wolf would win in a fight? And the grandfather turns to him and he says, the one that you feed, the one that you feed. The most challenging thing that I could say is we start this conversation about money because money, I believe, is really just a byproduct of self-worth. And I didn't learn that just from Dan Martell, but I've definitely amalgamated it from Mike Dillard and Adrian Brambila and many other people that have come on the show to this part of the roof of the Pentagon, which is financial intelligence, financial nourishment, financial wellbeing. But I can't absorb it, I can't accept it unless I have decided by so much pain and by so much frustration of being fucking broke and being in complete poverty that I just have to get to a place inside of my being that says, all right, enough. I'm sick of being broke. I'm sick of being disempowered. I'm sick of working these crappy jobs that don't give me anything, that don't fulfill my soul. How do I move forward?... [14:00] How to Manifest Money The phrase that when you pray that you believe you have it and you shall have it is good, but there's a missing part. There's two missing parts. The other part is if you are going to share with the creator how you will be of service and if it is in alignment with God's will. Just let that land for a second because that's the most part. Otherwise, we'd all just be praying for fucking Ferraris. You know, I want a Ferrari. Thank you for my Ferrari. I'll speak in the affirmative. Thank you so much for my Ferrari. But it's like, no, when you ask, believe that you have it and you shall have it because that's what prayer meditation be humble in service to what you're going to do when you receive it and stay in humility that it's in God's will or it's in creator's will. And I think we can only really get to that place because this is, we're talking about how to build wealth here, right? It's only in that space of humility that I think you can really build sustainable wealth. Because then your ego is really disassociated for a moment and you're asking, okay, if I want what I want, then how can I help somebody else get what they want that's also in alignment with what I love? Because God wants us to succeed, the Creator wants us to succeed... [25:15] Can You Keep Your Wealth? There's no one way to create wealth. There's no one way to be a man or be a woman. But there are tried and true proven practices get you there with less pain. And I feel like if we just follow the laws of nature, where If a man truly loves a woman, that he provides for her because he loves her, not because he has to. If a woman truly loves a man and she wants to create a family, she feels and deserves to be supported and be in the garden because that's how special she is. Like women, another phrase from the Bible, and y'all take whatever you want from this and leave the rest, is that the man is the head, but the woman is the crown. The woman is actually the crown that sits on the head of the family. So the man may be providing, but he's providing for her, which is so special. And I think that's been really accosted feminist movement. Now, the feminist movement is not all bad. It started out very pure. It had some good ideals, good morals, right? Like equal pay and equal treatment and respect. These are great things. But along the way, just like most movements, I think feminism got accosted and pulled into women leaving the home and creating double tax revenue for the IRS. I mean, that really was the construct that feminism was driven by. And if you look at most of the research, it was from the Rockefeller family. And there's a whole deep, dark hole if you wanna go down that. The reason I'm saying this is because we're talking about wealth. And I believe that we can only create wealth if we have embodied all of these different aspects that you and talked about today so far. One of the things that I remember Mike Dillard telling me, and we'll link this episode notes, is that he used to earn money and he would lose it. He would find a way to lose it. But he would make millions of dollars and then he would lose millions of dollars because he was addicted to the serotonin dopamine dumps that would happen that would remind him of his life, his childhood. So he had to actually build a new faculty. He had to build a mindset around making wealth and keeping wealth. Now we're talking about making wealth, right? But just because you make it doesn't mean that you are going to vibrationally hold it... [30:40] The Embodiment of Abundance I had a wounding around the word God. I can say it now and it's no big deal. But unless you have a clear spiritual connection to something bigger, and you're humble, and you can actually live this Mark 11:24 prayer, and in alignment with that, you're curious, you're interested in what finance can do for you, then we're just gonna raise our children to be are gonna raise their children to be poor. It's just like this all wretch and no vomit that Alan Watts speaks about. We're just raising our children to raise the same people. And it's like my goal is that actually Novah and Naya grew more abundant than me and better than me in so many ways and the same thing for our team like all of us I want to, of course, I want to work with y'all forever but I know there's a day down the road where you'll become so valuable to the marketplace and you'll have so much value and skill set that you've grown in you, that I'll get to give you a hug and wish way, right? And that's just like the joy and the journey of life. And I think if we can have this mindset, a true, not esoteric, not spiritual bullshit babble, like a true embodiment of abundance. I think that we also have to come to terms with that there's always a beginning, middle, and end in our life. And I think when it comes to money, really what we all deeply fear is if I don't have money, then I won't be able to eat, then I won't be safe, then I'll die. It's like this unconscious framework that I'm speaking about... [34:35] What Is The Game You Want to Play? The real way to do anything in life is to have curiosity, playfulness, and openness. How can I be curious about building wealth? How can I actually like make it a game? Because that's really what this is. We're in a big game here. I don't know if y'all got the memo, but like you're in a game. That's why you're here watching our game because part of our game resonates with your game. Cool. But the openness and the curiosity and the playfulness I really feel are so, so powerful, but it's the exact opposite, Mar. It's the exact opposite of what your mom told you, what my mom told me, and what story I fabricated about why my dad wasn't around. And I think that's the big takeaway here is do not always believe the stories, the beliefs that you have told yourself, that you believe. Be willing to die every day. Be willing to die every day about what you think is real, what society tells you. If I would have listened to society graduate from college I did not do anything that the typical person would do I've hired and fired people with master's I just went on the journey of loving and believing in myself and being open to my beliefs being fucking shattered. And if you do that, you will make way more money, 20, 50, 100 times more money in wealth for the safety we create. There's no such thing as financial security unless you love yourself and you believe enough to create it and to hold onto it and to further perpetuate this legacy where you're not just making the money and the garden that you grow and the house that you have about you, you're thinking about, wow, what will my children have?
