This week we are, again, joined by the amazing and talented, Jena Doyle - author of the Midsummer series and we are excited to be discussing the last three of this series, wrapping it all up. There are so many things to say about Samhain, Solstice, and Beltane but not enough time in a podcast episode so we hope you all read along. Here we'll discuss the lives, love, adventures, and trials of Lex, Ivy, Carter, and Miri, as well as the very steamy, squishy sex between them all. What happened to these four in that forest in Kilwaughter years ago didn't stay there but followed them until the end. ***We would love and appreciate it if you could subscribe, rate & review! Tap to send me your reflections ♡In this deeply heartfelt conversation, I'm joined by the wonderful Aisling Mustan (founder of the festivals: 'Exhale' and 'Good Grief') to explore the raw, tender terrain of what many call a 'dark night of the soul'. Aisling shares vulnerably and powerfully about her own recent experience - how it unfolded, what it revealed and the practices that supported her through it.We talk about the discomfort most of us try to avoid, and how, paradoxically, it's often where our deepest wisdom resides. We explore:The difference between true comfort and distractionThe courage it takes to sit with what feels unbearableThe role of grief, burnout, and unmet desires in shaping our inner landscapeHow practices like journaling, walking, and simply being can anchor us through the darkest momentsThis isn't a conversation about fixing or solving. As Aisling says, it's about witnessing, honouring, and 'trusting the darkness' as part of 'life's alchemical process'. Whether you're in your own 'dark night' or simply curious about how to meet life's inevitable lows with more compassion, I hope this episode brings you comfort - and the reminder that you're not alone. If this resonates, I'd love to hear from you. And if you feel called, please share the episode with someone who might need it today. I talked a bit about this the other night on my Patreon fireside chat, but of course, I ended up wandering a bit. While tradition may hold that Samhain is the Witch's New Year, my question will always be: whose tradition? From what geographical location? Turns out, in the Deep South, Yule has always felt more aligned with my own Witch's New Year.Y'all stay warm in this coming winter storm! Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales podcast, where we tell Irish myths set to original music. In this episode, we continue our series on the Fianna, the Fianna Saga, with a particularly memorable arrival at Tara. We might all know the Salmon of Knowledge story or the burning of Tara at Samhain, but this tale offers a fresh perspective on this legendary chapter. My sister, Sorcha, told this story. Before we dive in, we'd like to take a moment to thank our sponsor for this episode—Tigh'n Alluis, the Irish Sweat House. This family-run business, created by siblings, two brothers, is reviving Ireland's ancient sweat house tradition. Places that were once used for healing, restoration, easing rheumatism to curing colds. Positioned in the stunning location in the Dublin mountains overlooking the Wicklow and the Irish Sea, Tigh'n Alluis blends old Irish mythology with holistic practices, using the four elements—fire, water, air, and earth—to create a sauna experience like no other. You'll leave feeling restored, refreshed, and connected to an age-old Irish healing tradition. You'll find more about them in the show notes—be sure to check them out. Please note the content of these stories may be triggering for some listeners, please take care of yourself as you listen. This story includes mentions of fire. Chapter 1 What's Wheel Of The Year by Pauline Campanelli"Wheel of the Year" by Pauline Campanelli is a comprehensive guide that explores the cycle of seasonal festivals celebrated within the pagan calendar. Campanelli delves into the eight major Sabbats—Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon, Samhain, and Yule—offering insights into their historical origins, significance, and modern-day celebrations. The book is not just a mere calendar; it weaves together folklore, traditions, rituals, and seasonal practices, providing readers with practical guidance on how to honor each Sabbat in their own lives. Campanelli emphasizes the importance of connecting with nature, observing seasonal changes, and celebrating the rhythms of the earth. Through step-by-step rituals, recipes, and meditations, readers learn how to merge ancient wisdom with contemporary practices to create a meaningful spiritual experience throughout the year. This work serves as both an educational resource and an inspirational guide for those wishing to deepen their relationship with the natural world and the cycle of life.Chapter 2 Wheel Of The Year by Pauline Campanelli Summary"Wheel of the Year" by Pauline Campanelli is a comprehensive guide that explores the pagan seasonal festivals and their significance within the neo-pagan traditions, particularly Wicca. The book outlines the eight major festivals that make up the Wheel of the Year, which are:Samhain (October 31 November 1) A festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, believed to be a time when the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest.Yule (Winter Solstice) Celebrating the rebirth of the sun, this festival honors the return of longer days and the fertility of the earth.Imbolc (February 1-2) A festival dedicated to the goddess Brigid, signifying the first signs of spring and the promise of renewed life and growth.Ostara (Spring Equinox) Marking the balance of day and night, Ostara celebrates fertility and rebirth, aligning with themes of renewal in nature.Beltane (May 1) A fire festival that celebrates fertility, the union of the God and Goddess, and the abundance of life in spring.Litha (Summer Solstice) A celebration of the longest day of the year, focusing on the sun's power and the peak of growth before the decline of summer.Lammas (August 1) A harvest festival that offers gratitude for the earth's bounty, marking the time of ripening grain and fruit.Mabon (Autumn Equinox) A time of thanksgiving for the harvest, recognizing the balance between light and dark as the year moves toward winter.Throughout the book, Campanelli provides historical contexts, rituals, spells, recipes, and crafts associated with each festival, encouraging readers to actively participate in the cycles of nature. She emphasizes themes such as gratitude, community, and the interconnectedness of life, inviting practitioners to engage with the natural world and celebrate the changing seasons. Greeting's heathens and witches, Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast… Samhain is third and final harvest festival, which takes place on the October 31 (April 30 southern hemisphere), which is about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It's a time for mute dinners, dumb suppers, costumes, trick or treating, jack-o-lanterns, divination, bonfires, and all that fun Halloween stuff. When you think of Halloween or Samhain you probably think of the full moon at night. The moon has been of the more romanticized and popular focal points for magic throughout time. It waxes and wanes, sometimes disappearing entirely. Furthermore, sometimes it's out during the day! In this episode, we'll be discussing the magical properties of the moon, its cycles, and how you can use them in your practice. We also provide correspondences, discuss our experiences with lunar magic, and go on some fun tangents! Click here to learn more and join. Yule marks the Winter Solstice and is typically a 12 day celebration filled with gratitude and generosity, starting on Dec 21 and going through the end of December. It's a celebration of the rebirth of the Light, after we pass the shortest day and longest night of the year. It's a time where winter is modeling sacred rest, stillness, reflection, and resilience. Because of the discrepancy between the lunar calendar (354 days) and the solar calendar (365.25 days), lunar-based cultures consider these "extra 12 days" to be mythic time, time outside of time, where the ordinary rules of life are suspended and the veil between worlds is thin. Did you know? The idea that Santa Claus has shamanic roots tied to psychedelics comes from interpretations of Siberian and Arctic shamanic traditions. This theory proposes that many elements of the Santa Claus story—his appearance, behavior, and even the flying reindeer—may be influenced by shamanic practices, particularly those involving the Amanita muscaria mushroom. Even though the exact date is December 21, we can celebrate this whole season. In this episode, you'll learn... the origins, history, and symbolism of Yule what Nature is modeling for us physically, spiritually, and energetically, and how we can align 10 easy and enjoyable ways to celebrate Samhain 12 journal prompt themes to help you reflect and process the inspiration of this season Related/Mentioned in this episode Ep 210: Rewild Your Light (Light as Nutrition) When Santa was a Shaman book Feel how you want to feel NOW with my Free Desire Map Let's Go Deeper Together Join the Wild Wellness Women's Circle (monthly membership) Enroll in Rewild Your Wellness (lifetime access online course) Learn more about one-on-one coaching Free Resources Feel how you want to feel NOW with my Free Desire Map FREE Masterclass: Discover Your Spiritual Gifts Sign up for a FREE 1:1 coaching curiosity call Let's Connect! In this episode of The Halloween Podcast, host Lyle Perez-Tinics takes you on a colorful journey through the history, superstitions, and folklore behind Halloween's iconic palette. From the protective glow of orange bonfires during Samhain to the ghostly shimmer of silver moonlight, each color tells a haunting story. Discover how black became the shade of shadows and the unknown, why purple evokes magic and mystery, and the eerie connections between green and the grotesque. Plus, we explore an unconventional addition to the Halloween palette: silver, the color of protection and ethereal elegance. Join us for a deep dive into the spooky symbolism of Halloween's colors and their connections to ancient rituals, supernatural lore, and eerie modern traditions. Whether you're decorating for the season or just love Halloween's vibrant atmosphere, this episode will give you a whole new appreciation for the shades of spooky. Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales podcast. After our seasonal break for some Samhain-themed storytelling and spookier stories, this episode continues our newest linked series on the Fianna! The first episode of this series is episode 254, so listen back if you want to learn all about the band of warriors known as the Fianna. In this story, we continue with young Fionn's upbringing in the wilderness, and we see how the young boy learns plays, and trains in his wild surroundings. When he sees the ancient game of hurling for the first time (still the fastest field sport in the world by the way), he becomes utterly fascinated and completely obsessed with it. In this episode, we are also continuing the tradition of collaborating with musicians that we love working with. For this one, we have teamed up with Caoimhín (pronounced Kwe-Veen”. Known to some as the pide piper of the Celtic revolution, Caoimhín has performed several shows with Aron and Sorcha in the last two years and so he asked to produce a story he would like; “something with a bita “UMFF”...and maybe some hurling if possible”. We are delighted to share his work with you, and we hope you enjoy the music he created for this Podcast. Caoimhí is also a multi-instrumentalist, a stringent producer of his own music and a singer-songwriter from Dublin. He mostly sings in the Irish language and draws inspiration from the landscape, the folklore & the mythology of the land for his music. You can find his music online here Social media handle @caoimhínceol Please note the content of these stories may be triggering for some listeners, please take care of yourself as you listen. Sometimes our dreams didn't start out as our dreams. Sometimes, our current dreams were once just seeds germinating in the crucible of time and experience leading up to what is now. For seed farmer Jen Williams, being a seed farmer situated within a small island community was not always the dream. The dream to effect meaningful change in the world around her, started out for Jen in a realm all to prominent for most of us right now – electoral politics and the largest human structures of power in our world. But over time, disappointments, reality check disenchantments and more importantly, surprising enchantments, Jen's desire to change the world composted and transformed itself into her current life in the soil, with the plants and their seeds, in community, on the land. Now her wildest dreams effect powerful and beautiful change in the world through her - and our - collective relationships to plants, food, beauty, and place. I had the great joy of visiting Wild Dreams Farm & Seed this past summer, and I am so pleased to welcome Jen Williams to Cultivating Place this week on the seasonal harvest-to-winter transition, life-and-death-and-life-again-cycle celebration day of All Hallows Eve/Samhain. Because like the seasons, and the past, present, and future realms, and our gardens - our wildest dreams are the stuff of transformation. Listen in! Cultivating Place now has a donate button! We thank you so much for listening over the years and we hope you'll support Cultivating Place. We can't thank you enough for making it possible for this young program to grow even more of these types of conversations. The show is available as a podcast on SoundCloud and iTunes. Today I'll be sharing the strange and spooky story of Olivia Mabel. It's a story presented as a true story, centered around the unsettling concept of a “tulpa.” A thought form and sentient being willed into existence by, essentially, the power of one's imagination. Is that possible? And if not, aren't characters akin to tulpas created all the time by the power of vivid, immersive, fictional worldbuilding? Let's get a little bit wackadoodle today as the veil supposedly gets the thinnest between the world of the living and the world of the dead as we approach Halloween. Hail Lucifina! Pumpkins, trick or treating and ghost stories are what we associate with Halloween, but what about turnips, fairies and a fortune-telling cake? Dan and hosts of History Hit's After Dark podcast Anthony Delaney and Maddy Pelling go in search of the origins of Halloween, rooted on the island of Ireland in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when the harvest ends and winter looms. The trio try Barmbrack cake, a fruit loaf filled with charms that foretell the fate of the consumer, and Dan speaks to food historian Dr Regina Sexton about the traditional Samhain practices that inform our present Halloween customs. Meanwhile, Maddy and Anthony discover the historic Irish folklore of the ‘three worlds',and the ghouls and fairies that occupy them, with Dr Kelly Fitzgerald.
