Brace yourself for an intense cinematic experience as Movie Mistrial delves into Darren Aronofsky's unforgettable psychological drama, Requiem for a Dream.Requiem for a Dream is a haunting exploration of addiction, masterfully crafted with striking visuals, a heart-pounding score by Clint Mansell, and raw, powerful performances from its cast. The film's relentless descent into despair leaves a lasting impact, making it a visceral and emotionally charged portrayal of the human condition. While Requiem for a Dream is lauded for its artistic direction and emotional weight, its graphic and disturbing portrayal of addiction may be too intense for some viewers, with its unflinching look at tragedy offering little room for hope or relief.Join us as we unravel the emotional depths of Requiem for a Dream and examine its significance as one of the most harrowing depictions of addiction in modern cinema.Connect with us and share your thoughts:Twitter: http://tiny.cc/MistrialTwitterFacebook: http://tiny.cc/MistrialFBInstagram: http://tiny.cc/MistrialInstaVisit our website, www.moviemistrial.com, for more captivating episodes and to stay up-to-date with all things movies.

Recorded both at his studio in Seattle and with the late Richard Swift at National Freedom, Joe made a point to collaborate with his friends and former bandmates. The lyrics and vocals on the record are provided by longtime friend and former The Black Heart Procession colleague, Pall Jenkins, with additional players David Bazan and Cody Votolato filling out the piano and guitar respectively. THE FOUNTAINNo one expects the Spanish Inquisition, and no one expected Darren Aronofsky to follow up the success of Requiem for a Dream with a genre-breaking, scyfy-romantic-period-spiritual-medical drama (kinda? maybe?) entitled THE FOUNTAIN (2006). Join your hosts Ken and Thomas along with returning guest Ryan for Season 11, Chapter III, Part A as they drink from The Fountain, a movie garnering no award nominations and would, after wrapping, temporarily break up Aronofsky's partnership with cinematographer Matthew Libatique. Aronofsky's biggest (and only) flop to date, The Fountain concerns three timelines. These intercut stories are populated by then-girlfriend Rachel Weisz and then-between-Wolverines-and-musicals Hugh Jackman (in three iterations of the name “Thomas”) where they play Spanish queen and her loyal conquistador servant, a terminally ill wife and super-science primate neurologist, and a tree (or apparition) and hairless yoga enthusiast in a bubble travelling to an exploding star. These past and future timelines may or may not exist, perhaps part of a pretentiously hand-written, leather-bound manuscript by the dying Weisz-wife character, who left the final chapter incomplete for Dr. Tommy to compose after her death.Pod-favorite actors Mark Margolis returns as a priest and Ellen Burstyn returns as Dr. Tommy's boss and tree/cemetery owner, while Clint Mansell returns to score the film. The movie also marks the beginning of Aronofsky's ongoing writing partnership with Ari Handel.Join the hate watch as our three cineastes yell in unison from across timelines: “Finish it!” THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Twitter: https://twitter.com/thegoodthepoda1YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!):Ken: Ken Koral

Aronofsky Chapter One Pt. One: PiTGTPU SEASON 11 returns to form with our classic (or outdated) temporal pincer movement to cover the entirety of (yes, all eight) wide release films of director Darren Aronofsky. Hosts Ken and Thomas with guest Ryan - pause, pop pills, make a note - kick off the inaugural episode of the new season with Aronofsky's first feature film, PI (1998), a black-and-white low-budget masterpiece clocking in at an economical 1hour 23minutes & 45seconds.Pioneering an editing technique Aronofsky coined “hip-hop montage,” the film - pause, pop pills, make note - scored by Clint Mansell and shot by Matthew Libatique, both of whom will collaborate with Aronofsky on five later (75% of Aronofsky's) films, follows the obsessive life of Max Cohen, a super anxious math genius, played by Sean Gullette bearing a strong resemblance to the lead singer of Live once he shaves his head who - pause, pop pills, make note - may have uncovered a secret pattern to the universe. Getting pressure from both Wall Street in an effort to game the system with a new super microchip and a cabal of Hasidic Jews looking for mathematical meaning in the Torah - pause, take pills, see wild and crazy stuff that may not be real, make note - Max and the viewer are left to wonder: Is the pattern he finds is a gift from God or a curse? All this cultivates in, well, among this week's three hosts, an argument on how the movie ends, the merits of trepanning, which of Aronofsky's scarves is the best, and if this first film to allow for internet downloading might have also originated crowdsourcing. Also note is our new format: TGTPTU will be releasing episodes discussing just one movie (instead of having both movies of our pairings released in a single episode). We welcome feedback. Also note (before drilling your skull): this summary's precisely 314 words.THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Twitter: https://twitter.com/thegoodthepoda1YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!):Ken: Ken Koral

My Immortal: Evanescens Together we will live forever: Clint Mansell

The Whale is beautifully scored by Rob Simonsen - who has served up a haunting take on the nautical themes that underpin the movie.

The HBO Max series, Peacemaker, the spin-off from director James Gunn's The Suicide Squad has become a massive hit for the streaming service, and not a small amount of its popularity comes from its deft use of music. However, while much as been made of the series' use of under-the-radar or forgotten rock 'n' roll and hair metal, composer Kevin Kiner's work on the series, alongside Clint Mansell, helps set the tone for a show which is by turns outrageous, violent, and surprisingly introspective and thoughtful. Ahead of the Peacemaker series finale, we spoke with Kiner about his work on the series, as well as his past compositions for the Star Wars and DC universes.

I use a fair amount of film music in my mixes and have done mixes of all soundtrack tunes but I have never made a best of the year mix for film scores. Until now. There were no blow my mind scores, like Arrival or Solaris, this year but there was a lot of excellent music to choose from for this mix.   As an ambient guy, I lean towards more atmospheric film scores. I'm not at all interested in the soundtrack for the new Star Wars film or Avengers Endgame. So in my list of 2019 favs there are the usual suspects - Clint Mansell, Max Richter, Cliff Martinez & Johann Johannsson. Along with great music from folks like Hildur Guðnadóttir, Peter Gregson, Stuart A. Staples, Daniel Hart, and Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie.   One of my favorite film music discoveries of the year is William Ryan Fritch. In addition to the monumental collection of film music, Deceptive Cadence: Music For Film Volume I & II, he released two more film scores in November - Artifishal & Exit 12 which I knew I had to include because they are both excellent. All three recordings are available on Lost Tribe Sound - https://losttribesound.bandcamp.com/   Sometimes I start a mix with high expectations but with this one, I was just trying to cobble together enough tracks to make a mix worth uploading. But I've been listening to this mix for a week and I'm very happy with how it turned out. It flows really well is an engaging listen.   Up next Best Film Scores of the Decade.   Cheers!   T R A C K L I S T : 00:00    William Ryan Fritch - Canary in the Coal Mine (Artifishal) 01:35    Ben Salisbury And Geoff Barrow - Amy Follows Luce (Luce) 03:45    Bryce Dessner - The Homecoming (The Kitchen) 05:19    Guðnadóttir, Hoedemaekers, Jóhannsson - Secret Rendevous (Trapped) 07:21    Max Richter - A Trip to the Moon (Ad Astra) 11:24    Paul Haslinger - The Connection (Halt & Catch Fire vol. 2) 13:15    Peter Gregson - Sequence Four (Mari) 17:24    Daniel Hart - John Beckers (Over Water) 21:00    Richard Thompson - The Cold Blue (The Cold Blue) 24:00    Cliff Martinez - I'm Not Going to Hurt You (Too Old to Die Young) 25:42    M83 - End Credits (Knife + Heart) 27:49    Hildur Guðnadóttir - Vichnaya Pamyat (Chernobyl) 31:30    William Ryan Fritch - Vietnam (Exit 12) 34:23    Clint Mansell - Timeslip (Out of Blue) 38:27    Johann Johannsson - Playing With Ball (White Black Boy) 40:16    Stuart A.
