Hello...thanks for listening! I didn't know that I was an Introvert for the most of my life and it's due to most if not all of the following myths which are exactly just that...myths! I'm looking forward to 'smashing these myths and stigmas' about what being an Introvert really is! Please join me! Lol! Not sure if you're an introvert or how much (or not) you are? Take the below personality test for starters. It's Free! (I suggest taking it a few times and if you can even getting someone close to you that knows you well to help you fll out your answers if you're unsure what your answers are.) www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test First things first. The only difference between an Introvert and an Extrovert is 'drum roll' in how we recharge! That's it!!! Introverts recharge by being alone and Extroverts recharge by being around many people. I like to use the cell phone analogy. Just like you don't need to charge your cell phone all day sitting on the charger, introverts don't need to be alone all day, every day to recharge! When we recharge and gain energy we're good to go again and when we're low on energy and need to recharge (just like a cell phone when the battery is getting low), that's the time you set it on a charger because otherwise your cell phone won't work or it won't work well - the same goes for introverts. Our health and wellbeing are at stake when we don't recharge. Now that I know I'm an introvert, I better 'manage' my time to recharge. It's truly a must! And there are shy extroverts and outgoing introverts. I'm an outgoing introvert! I'm outgoing af! But I know my capacity and when I need to recharge, I do just that. And I don't make any apologies! It's like "gotta go, see ya next time!". haha! Myth #1. That there isn't a spectrum and that if you're an Introvert you're an Introvert 100% and not Extroverted at ALL - Spoiler alert! Most if not all people are both! I'm more introverted than extroverted so I'm an introvert and I just need to recharge when my energy is low. Myth #2. That introverts like to be alone all.of.the.time! (Nope, just to recharge when we're at capacity, otherwise we're good!). Myth #3. That it's the same as being 'shy'. Being an introvert is NOT the same thing as being shy...I repeat being an introvert is NOT the same thing as being 'shy'! Here is a short paragraph from www.verywellfamily.com. on the differences: Being shy and being introverted aren't the same thing, although they may look the same. An introvert enjoys time alone and gets emotionally drained after spending a lot of time with others. A shy person doesn't necessarily want to be alone but is afraid to interact with others. The full article is below: www.verywellfamily.com/the-difference-between-being-shy-and-being-introverted-1448616#:~:text=Being%20shy%20and%20being%20introverted%20aren%27t%20the%20same,alone%20but%20is%20afraid%20to%20interact%20with%20others. Myth #4. That introverts don't and can't be around large groups of people. False! I've been to many concerts and large events since I was a kid. Now that I know that I'm an introvert, I know that I need to manage my time to either leave a little early and/or recharge afterward! Myth #5. That we have 'nothing to say' because we're deep thinkers. We have quite a lot to say if given the opportunity to do so! And when we talk, we're detail oriented and give some of the best feedback. We just need a minute or two to 'gather our thoughts' since we're deep thinkers. In other words, it's worth the wait to wait for an introvert to answer a question than to rush them into having an answer that wouldn't be half as detailed and 'thought out'! Myth #6: That we can't speak our minds and that we don't make good leaders. I have three names for you... President Obama, Ghandi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.....all are said to be introverts. Need I say more? Myth #7: That we can't hold conversations - this goes back to introverts being put under the same trait as being shy. One word: Oprah Myth #8: That all introverts love to read and books are our best friends. I'm more of a magazine reader personally. I don't love to read physical books or even ebooks...however I do love to listen to books via audio! (Not sure if this counts as an avid "book reader" or not, lol!). ;-) Myth #9: That we're "jerks" because we pay attention to detail. I read this article recently and I couldn't believe what I was reading! They basically equated all introverts to being jerks because introverts are more known to be more detail oriented and will point out grammatical and spelling errors (so to speak). I think a "jerk" is someone who consistently is 'correcting' people around them but that can be any personality type (an extrovert OR an introvert) and does NOT equate to all introverts! Myth #10: That it's a tiny percentage of introverts vs extroverts in the world. Wrong! Introverts are half of the population! So chances are if you're not one, one of your friends is and/or a family member or two or three are, your supervisor(s), your hair dresser...you get the point! Lol! Myth #11. That introverts can't be entertainers, performers or celebrities. Four names: Beyonce', Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Alicia Keys If this episode was of value to you please follow, share and review! Que lo que mi gente! This week the bag is full (like always!) We jump right in to “Currento Eventos” talking about a few more summer stories including the large number of transphobic murders this summer, the ongoing Mauna Kea Protectors fight to protect their sacred land in Hawaii, and the #PerreoIntenso that took over Puerto Rico this summer when the people took to the streets to demand #RickyRenuncia! In “What’s Your Baggage” we touch on the concept of choosing happiness when you really don't feel like it and life is throwing you straight bows. We each talk about how we do that for ourselves and how we try to help ourselves in situations when we're not feeling our best. For “Put it in your Bag” Estephanie discusses our obsession with the new MTV dating show “Are You the One?” where 16 QUEER singles compete for love and money! It’s FIRE! Lina talks about the groundbreaking show Pose and the equally impactful Marsha’s Plate Podcast that has created accompanying reviews for each episode! Definitely watch the show and listen, you’ll cry, you’ll laugh, and you’ll learn so many new things! Finally, for our rotating theme we talk about movies where the ending left us with more questions than they should have. FYI this is ALL SPOILER! Estephanie talks about the Jurassic World ending and Lina talks about the Korean Zombie thriller Train to Busan!
