Synchronous systems produce AC current; Converter-based systems produce DC that must be converted into AC. This is achieved through software and algorithms. On the other hand, inherent inertia is achieved by the physical, rotating mass of the machinery involved in synchronous power generation. Part 1 of this discussion examines psychology, philosophy, religion, spiritually, science, and medicine, a panel of five (5) people opens with the question, 'where am I?' and 'what is going on [in the world]?' and refers to James Hillman, ideas and action as an artificial distinction, are they the same thing? How are they interlinked? The poet Major Ragain is quoted, 'contemplation alters the course of rivers.' From the Bhagavad Gita: Freedom from action is not accomplished by abstaining from action, so how is it accomplished? Relinquishing the fruit of action Ghandi's, 'through service, I find myself.' The Panel begins to examine the Taoist concept of non-action, Wu Wei. How do we cultivate Wu Wei? The Panel explores Univerisal Truths. Natural action arises, we have a deep intrinsic calling, how do we find and express it? What is our reason for being here? To receive the Divine Will is a part of choiceless action. Over geestelijke vitaliteit, geestelijke weerbaarheid.

The fellas figure out they spend most of their days conditionally drunk. Ted tries to talk a woman out of her sweat pants.
Many of the best innovators in art, science, human rights, and other important areas of life have had one thing in common: they were rebels. In some way, they refused to subordinate themselves by merely doing what was expected of them. Instead, they changed the way things were done… for the better. I'm not talking about reckless insubordination—the kind a character like Joker from Batman engages in. Instead, I'm referring to the principled version, the kind that Ghandi or MLK have exhibited in which people followed their hearts, their moral compasses, and the world would become a better place for it. Dr. Todd Kashdan (https://toddkashdan.com/) is a professor at George Mason University and a leading authority on well-being, curiosity, courage, and resilience. He has published more than 220 scientific articles, his work has been cited more than 46,000 times, and he received the American Psychological Association's Award for Distinguished Scientific Early Career Contributions to Psychology. He's also the author of a book I loved that is the subject of this interview called The Art of Insubordination: How to Dissent and Defy Effectively. I am not alone as the book has been praised by multiple thought leaders like Robert Cialdini, Seth Godin, and Susan David. So, listen in as Todd and I talk about principled insubordination. Arun Gandhi is in 2023 overleden.

Back from a month off, Host Grant Smith reflects on some lessons learned during his time away.
A kid in India clearly just learned about Ghandi because he went on a 3-day hunger strike to get an iPhone. When did you weaponize what you learned in school against your parents?
In Jesus' most iconic sermon, he drops a truth bomb on his audience, declaring, “You've heard it said… but I say to you…” What's Jesus saying? Today he might have said it like this, "You think you know, but let me tell you the real deal.” Life in His Kingdom is a game-changer. It's not just surface-level, it's a deep dive into the core of our being. This is where true life begins; coming into a right relationship with God, which leads us into right relationships with others. He hosts the “Velshi Banned Book Club” on MSNBC, and the “Velshi Banned Book Club” podcast. He previously worked as an anchor and correspondent for Al Jazeera America and CNN. Born in Nairobi and raised in Toronto, Velshi holds a degree in Religion and an honorary Doctorate of Laws from Canada's Queen's University. A captivating family history that illustrates how small actions can have an outsized political impact. Small acts of courage matter. Sometimes, they change the world. Our history books are filled with the stories of those who fought for democracy and freedom—for idealism itself—against all odds, from Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela to Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. These iconic struggles for social change illustrate the importance of engagement and activism, and offer a template for the battles we are fighting today. But using the right words is often easier than taking action; action can be hard, and costly. More than a century ago, MSNBC host Ali Velshi's great-grandfather sent his seven-year-old son to live at Tolstoy Farm, Gandhi's ashram in South Africa. This difficult decision would change the trajectory of his family history forever. From childhood, Velshi's grandfather was imbued with an ethos of public service and social justice, and a belief in absolute equality among all people—ideals that his children carried forward as they escaped apartheid, emigrating to Kenya and ultimately Canada and the United States. In Small Acts of Courage, Velshi taps into 125 years of family history to advocate for social justice as a living, breathing experience—a way of life more than an ideology. With rich detail and vivid prose, he relates the stories of regular people who made a lasting commitment to fight for change, even when success seemed impossible. This heartfelt exploration of how we can breathe new life into the principles of pluralistic democracy is an urgent call to action—for progress to be possible, we must all do whatever we can to make a difference. "Self-confidence is an inside job," Leslie Randolph asserts in this solo episode of "Why Didn't They Tell Us?" Despite this truth, many of us allow others' opinions, which often mirror our own insecurities, to shape our self-perception. This fear of external judgment hinders us from pursuing our desires, whether it's starting a business, joining a club, or parenting in our own way. To combat this, Leslie introduces practical tools to help us reclaim our self-confidence and courageously pursue our true paths. Echoing the investigative approach of journalists with the Five Ws—who, what, when, where, why—Leslie guides us to interrogate the fears and seek approval from the "they" whose opinions we fear and crave. She debunks the myths surrounding these perceived judgements and uncovers the true nature of criticism. Leslie then encourages us to ask ourselves a pivotal question, one that connects us more deeply with our desires and empowers us to act with confidence. The episode invites listeners to dial down their "bully brain" and amplify their "bestie brain," reconnecting with their adolescent selves—a time when many of us were acutely concerned with others' views. Through Leslie's insights, we learn to silence our internal critic and foster a supportive inner dialogue, empowering us to believe in ourselves, irrespective of external voices. Quotes “When we're so concerned about what other people will think about us or say about us if we go after our goals, then we often don't.” (4:15 | Leslie Randolph) “Listen, you're wonderful. You're amazing. You are special. But not everyone is talking about you. You could be Oprah, Beyonce, Ghandi or Lady Gaga and still, not everyone in the world is talking about you, caring about you or even thinking about you.” (8:35 | Leslie Randolph) “Are they going to raise your kids for you? Are they going to pay your rent because you walked away from that professional path or from launching a business? Chances are, no. They're not.” (11:36 | Leslie Randolph) “That internal naysayer, it's just your bully brain holding you back. It's dressed up in other people's opinions, but it's all happening in your mind.” (14:48 | Leslie Randolph) “When you challenge the story and write a new one with the bestie as the narrator, it's amazing what you'll find, and, more importantly, what you'll do.” (18:13 | Leslie Randolph) Connect With Leslie: Bully to Bestie Bootcamp Help Your Teen Cultivate Confidence Website Instagram Facebook Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
“So how can we create such rich belonging, that there's room to challenge each other without fearing that we're going to be kicked out of the group?”In this episode, we'll be exploring that question and many other questions about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) with Mazin Jamal, co-founder of Holistic Underground. We dive into how we stay grounded as facilitators when we're supporting groups to look at race, privilege, and equity.Check out the episode page for the transcript and all the resources related to this episode: https://widerroots.com/2Key takeawaysBringing Levity: Use humor and lightness when dealing with weighty topics to help keep things in perspective. This connects to the deeper reasons people are engaged.Living the Change We Wish to See: Model the kind of community we want to build in how we organize and work together. [00:21:25]Making Space for Imperfection and Redemption: Have compassion for our own and others' humanity. This reduces defensive othering when we all accept we are on a journey. What is the point of a good education? Do we need it to learn a narrow set of skills ro help us get ahead in the workplace, or should knowledge and learning to be used over a lifetime to acquire wisdom that enables us to think more deeply about our place in the world? This question has profound resonance at a time of angry divides over American politics and moral confusion at elite American universities. The President of Harvard, Claudine Gay, resigned after months of campus unrest and controversy. In December, Gay and two other university presidents faced widespread criticism for their testimony at Congressional hearings about antisemitism on their campuses. In this episode, we hear from an university educator who makes the case for liberal education that gives students the tools needed to have a deeper sense of purpose. Roosevelt Montás is the author of "Rescuing Socrates: How The Great Books Changed My Life And Why They Matter For a New Generation".He believes that the ideas and writings of Plato, Socrates, Shakespeare, Ghandi and many others aren't just for a few privileged students. They're for everybody, and that encountering these thinkers as a poor immigrant teenager changed his life.Montás is senior lecturer in American Studies and English at Columbia University, and director of the Center for American Studies Freedom and Citizenship Program, which introduces low-income high school students to primary texts in moral and political thought, as well as seminars in American Studies including “Freedom and Citizenship in the United States.” From 2008 to 2018, he was director of Columbia's Center for the Core Curriculum."There is a prevailing cultural attitude that liberal education— the study of literature and philosophy — is appropriate only to the elite," Roosevelt tells us. "That is a really pernicious idea." He argues that the students who benefit the most from the foundational wisdom in the "great books" come from poor and marginalized backgrounds.Recommendation: Richard watched and greatly enjoyed the Anglo-Japanese Netflix TV series, "Giri / Haji", — duty/shame in Japanese— a thriller about a Tokyo detective scouring the London underworld to find his allegedly deceased brother. The series was filmed in Tokyo and London. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
