Send us a textToday's episode is exactly how it sounds. We read off 1⭐️ reviews of our favorite books, try to get the other person (and you guys!) to guess what it is, then reveal it with its official star rating on Goodreads. We have everything from SJM and The Empyrean to lesser known books involving vampires, shadow daddies, and robots. Dark romance, fantasy, romantasy, and a little bit of magical realism make this episode a well rounded one. Do you agree or disagree with the assessment? Sometimes what we love about a book makes it a 1 ⭐ read for sobeibe else. It's all in good fun! That's what makes reading so amazing. We've also got a faves and fails of the week involving a popular author book signing, and the crispiest Diet Coke of Liz's life, mixed in with Chipotle gone wrong and a mean case of the Sunday scaries. And a smash or pass involving two hot… aliens? Strangely enough. Don't be shy, subscribe! New Podcasts every Tuesday!! Best friends Jac and Amy conduct a literary analysis of Sarah J. Maas's debut novel, Throne of Glass. In this episode, they discuss chapters 49 - 55. Each episode is broken into 2 parts. This is part 2 of this week's episode. Come back Tuesday, where we'll discuss listener thoughts. (Spoilers for Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, and Heir of Fire will be discussed. Any larger series or other SJM spoilers will be reserved for the end of Thursday's episode in part 2.) Every episode, Jac and Amy use their combined 13 years of literary academic training to analyze and give voice to reasons why you may love or hate today's popular books. They embrace and respect modern fantasy, romance, and romantasy books written by women. And so, it is in their nature to analyze these books as you would any other novel you might have discussed in school. Chapter summary for this week's episodes: Despite Chaol's encouragement, Celaena is unable to stand and fight Cain as she is plagued by unseen demons from the In Between. Fearing death, she calls on Elena to help her beat off the horde long enough for Celaena to rise and fight back, ultimately defeating Cain. Celaena's grave injuries distract her and a helpless Dorian such that they do not see Cain approach to finish her off, but Chaol intercedes and ultimately kills the brute. Celaena is named the King's Champion, and Kaltain – seething at her failure to incapacitate the assassin – is imprisoned for poisoning the Champion. For a week, Celaena is attended to by Dorian, Nehemia, and Phillipa as she recovers, during which the King and Perrington scheme and Dorian stands up to his father to protect Celaena and Chaol. Despite their bond, Celaena ends her romantic relationship with Dorian, while Chaol, ashamed and dejected for murdering Cain, cannot accept comfort from his friends. He only finds hope for the future when he sees Celaena and her own happiness at the prospect of her freedom. Sponsors: Try Dipsea today! ACOFAE Podcast Presents: True Blood: "Bill, I've got the ick." Vampires can be so many things: sparkly, fast, blood thirsty, gorgeous. They can also be Confederate and Southern, which is what is going on here in ACOFAE's True Blood rewatch Season 1 episodes 1 and 2. Sookie is just ordinary girl with an extraordinary ability until Vampire Bill walks into her seating section and changes her life. Throwing it all the way back to 2008, True Blood was a moment, is a moment, and will be a moment in time - the themes are just as relevant now as they were then, as ACOFAE watches Sookie put men in their place left and right; sheriff, coroner, brother, boss. It does not matter. The "I'm just a waitress" Stackhouse is fearless in the pursuit of her piece of calm in the noise and Vampire Bill is just that and more. The accents are thick, the teeth are real, and the messages are important as Laura Marie and Jessica Marie lament that they do not make TV like they used to. Best friends Jac and Amy conduct a literary analysis of Sarah J. Maas's debut novel, Throne of Glass. In this episode, they discuss chapters 7-10. Each episode is broken into 2 parts. This is part 2 of this week's episode. Come back on Tuesday where they will explore chapters 11 - 15. Chapter summary for this week's episodes: Following her year of slavery, Celaena Sardothien returns to Rifthold as a guest of the palace and would-be Champion with Dorian and Chaol. Despite Celaena's wariness of the glass castle, the assassin finds herself pleased with her accommodations and the ready supply of books Dorian is willing to give her. But unlike Dorian, many are unhappy with Celaena's presence, including the King of Adarlan, who does not hold back his ire regarding Dorian's choice of Champion. Meanwhile, Celaena does her best to hide her fear of the king and her disdain about her missteps as a competitor on the eve of the competition's first trial. Sponsors: Manscaped!
