What happens when a comedic duo like Matt Serra and Din Thomas are left in charge of an episode featuring not one, but TWO outspoken guest fighters in Bryce Mitchell and Al Iaquinta? Well, some might say it'd give you one of the WILDEST episodes in UFC Unfiltered history — and for what it's worth, we'd definitely agree! With Jim Norton out for the day, Din Thomas serves as co-pilot for a Monday episode that begins with featherweight contender Bryce Mitchell talking about his place in the division before morphing into Bryce's full-fledged investigation into whether the song “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” can be supported by science. When Mitchell leaves, the guys are then joined by Serra-Longo's own Al Iaquinta, who opens up on what's keeping him busy while away from the cage before answering a few of Din's questions about if there are any veteran opponents out there who could lure him back into the Octagon. Finally, the guys pay their respects to the great career of UFC featherweight Chan Sung Jung and how the legendary martial artist lived up to his “The Korean Zombie” nickname in the final fight of his career despite losing to Max Holloway in Saturday's UFC Fight Night event in Singapore.
The Fighter vs. The Writer returns with UFC legend Matt Brown and MMA Fighting senior reporter Damon Martin reacting to the latest news in MMA including Max Holloway's win over ‘The Korean Zombie' Chan Sung Jung. With his victory at UFC Singapore, Holloway has eliminated yet another top featherweight contender but what will it take for him to get back to a fourth fight against Alexander Volkanovski? Is there anything that Holloway can do to put him over the top for that title shot? We'll also discuss Rose Namajunas making her debut at flyweight at UFC Paris and what kind of chance she has to become a disruptive force in that division where past strawweights have found mixed success. Brown addresses the recent win from Oleksandr Usyk and the disappointment that he ended up facing Daniel Dubois instead of a showdown with heavyweight king Tyson Fury. Plus we talk about the upcoming boxing match between Logan Paul and Dillon Danis and the chances that Mike Perry ends up taking that fight in October. Max Holloway picked up his first finish in several years with a third-round knockout of The Korean Zombie in the main event of Saturday's UFC Singapore event. On an all-new edition of Heck of a Morning, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck discusses what could be next for Holloway, why a matchup with Ilia Topuria is not the fight to make right now, and whether or not Aljamain Sterling could be an option. Additionally, listener topics include Israel Adesanya's next move should he be successful against Sean Strickland at UFC 293, if Khamzat Chimaev can leapfrog Dricus Du Plessis in the middleweight title discussion, Erin Blanchfield's UFC Singapore win over Taila Santos, Anthony Smith's win over Ryan Spann and what fights make sense for "Lionheart," a quick review of AEW's All-In, and more. Max Holloway got the win as expected over Chan Sung Jung on Saturday, but it was still a fairly impressive weekend for the Korean Zombie. Jung was able to find Holloway's chin more than expected prior to his own KO loss, he got a signature Zombie moment surviving a choke in the second round and after the fight pulled off perhaps the classiest and most eloquent MMA retirement we've ever seen. Point being: Max and the Zombie are both sweet dudes. Where they both go from here, only time will tell. Plus, as the UFC rolls into Paris this weekend, will Sergey Spivak look to check that wrestling against Ciryl Gane? This episode is brought to you in part by NordVPN. Max Holloway delivered his first finish since stopping Brian Ortega in the fourth round at UFC 231 in December 2018 when he sent all-time action fighter The Korean Zombie into retirement at UFC Singapore with a walkoff knockout. With Alexander Volkanovski still reigning supreme atop the featherweight division, there are still a lot of interesting options for "Blessed," like, perhaps, welcoming a former champion up to 145, or Holloway potentially making a move up to 155. On an all-new edition of On To the Next One, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck and Alexander K. Lee discuss what could be next for Holloway following his third-round knockout in the main event of Saturday's card. Additionally, future matchups are discussed for Anthony Smith after his split decision win over Ryan Spann, Giga Chikadze after a successful return to the octagon, Erin Blanchfield following a gritty win over one-time title challenger Taila Santos, along with fellow main card winners Rinya Nakamura, Junior Tafa, and more. UFC women's strawweight contender Tatiana Suarez joins Jim Norton and Matt Serra on today's episode of UFC Unfiltered! Excited with the progress he's making in jiu-jitsu classes, Jim begins the show by slyly changing his Zoom nickname to “Kimura Daddy” as a play-on to Matt's “Kimura Savage” nickname. By the time Matt notices, it hilariously triggers Matt into a rant about why a jiu-jitsu newbie like Jim is off base for calling himself that even as a joke. The guys then take a look at Saturday's UFC Fight Night card in Singapore, where they talk about Max Holloway's featherweight main event against The Korean Zombie as well as fights from the undercard. When Tatiana Suarez hops on the show, the unbeaten women's strawweight lists her takeaways from Zhang Weili's dominant title defense over Amanda Lemos at UFC 292 and how she thinks she'd matchup against the 115-pound champion in a title fight if given the opportunity to fight her. However, with the possibility that Weili's next title defense could take place against fellow Chinese countrywoman Yan Xiaonan, Suarez then goes through a list of other women's strawweights that she wouldn't mind fighting to continue the momentum she's built in 2023 since returning from nearly a four-year hiatus earlier this year.
While there's a lot going on in the world of MMA, the fallout from UFC 292 this past Saturday is still with most people following Sean O'Malley's title win over Aljamain Sterling. On an all-new edition of Heck of a Morning, MMA Fighting's Mike Heck discusses the lingering storylines coming out of the UFC's return to Boston. Additionally, topics include Saturday's UFC Singapore event, and a sneaky loaded main card capped off by Max Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie in a scheduled five-round featherweight bout, Giga Chikadze's return and why Alex Caceres may be overlooked by most heading into this weekend, the stakes in the Erin Blanchfield vs. Tail Santos fight, the PFL classic between Clay Collard and Shane Burgos from Wednesday night in New York, PFL recent signings, and much more. In the main event of UFC 292, Sean O'Malley turned the UFC bantamweight division upside down when he knocked out Aljamain Sterling to become the brand new champion in Boston — which leaves the futures of O'Malley, Sterling, and the division as a bit of a mystery. On an all-new edition of Between the Links, the panel will take viewer questions live on the program on topics such as O'Malley's title win and where he goes, whether Sterling makes the move to featherweight, or stays at 135, Zhang Weili's dominant title defense against Amanda Lemos and if Yan Xiaonan or Tatiana Suarez is next, Ian Machado Garry's ceiling in the welterweight division, Saturday's UFC Singapore event headlined by Max Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie, the card being sneaky good, and more. Friends, your new UFC men's bantamweight champion is Sean O'Malley. It's possible that's a pretty big deal. At this point, the UFC certainly seems to have succeeded in its years-long effort at making O'Malley a star. His upset TKO of Aljamain Sterling on Saturday at UFC 292 made him the youngest champion on the UFC's current roster, he received a hero's welcome in Boston and now is poised to perhaps bring an unprecedented amount of attention to the 135-pound division. Only question now is, how long can he stay on top? Plus, Zhang Weili blanked Amanda Lemos and Max Holloway is going to have a fun fight against The Korean Zombie. Learn more about your ad choices.
