These slew of films are known as The Revival Era since they came out when Disney had made a massive comeback with releasing contemporary films that were praised by critics and fans deeming them as classics on par with the Disney films in the 1990s with their back-to-basic approach with telling classic stories, self aware humor, twist villains, and memorable characters, settings, and songs. What did Patricia and Chris think of the films? Listen and find out.

Eve Benhamou's book Contemporary Disney Animation: Genre, Gender and Hollywood (Edinburgh UP, 2022) is the first in-depth study of Disney's latest animated output from the perspective of genre theory. Analysing a decade in Disney's history (2008-2018), Benhamou examines the multifaceted interactions between animated films, Disney properties such as Pixar and Marvel, and popular genres including the romantic comedy, the superhero film and the cop buddy film. Through this extensive critical lens, combined with a focus on gender, she provides illuminating and original insights on films such as Tangled, Frozen and Moana. Informed by wider discourses on contemporary Hollywood and post-feminism, this book challenges conventional approaches to Disney, and foregrounds the importance of animation in understandings of film genres. Erratum. In the interview, Eve said that Eeyore was from Dumbo, while it is from Winnie the Pooh. “The origin story feels pretty far away from where I am now,” says screenwriter Kelly Younger. “I started out in archeology. Truth be told, I wanted to be a Goonie,” he jokes. “I'm from a working class Irish family. My family went through a hard financial time. We actually lost our house when I was a kid.” “In The Goonies, the kids are about to lose their homes, but then they find this treasure map, fight criminals, there's pirate ships, but ultimately they find the treasure that is going to save the family home. That movie really hit me at a pretty important moment.” “Then, when Indiana Jones came out, I wanted to be an archeologist. That was always my interest and facisnation. Lost civilizations and treasures. The kind of magic surrounding those kinds of stories. I was also a bit of a theater kid in middle school and high school. When it came time for school, I studied English Literature and the Classics.” Eventually, it became obvious that Younger was making career choices based on movies. “Ultimately, I moved to Ireland and studied literature, drama, folk tales, mythology, and fairy tales. I started out as a student of storytelling, but then my theater background kicked in and I started writing plays—mostly because I was broke. I wrote a play and won 1,000 pounds and got involved in the Dublin Theater Festival.” Eventually, this lead the screenwriter to Disney Animation where he worked as part of the “Story Trust,” providing feedback and advice for Moana, Cars 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Toy Story 4, Frozen II, Onward, Aladdin, and Raya and the Last Dragon. As a screenwriter, Younger has credits on Muppets Now, Muppets Haunted Mansion, and the new Eddie Murphy comedy Candy Cane Lane. The story follows a man who is determined to win the neighborhood's annual Christmas decorating contest until he makes a pact with an Elf who cast a spell on him which brings the 12 days of Christmas to life, and wrecks havoc on the town. Brad and Jake tackle, but Brad hasn't seen any movies from 1943, so he recommends the acclaimed The Life & Times of Colonel Blimp. This unconventional epic spanning the Second Boer War and both World Wars was helmed by the Archers (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger), and starred Roger Livesey, Anton Walbrook, and Deborah Kerr in knockout performances. Jake, with little in his 1943 arsenal, asked Brad to watch Disney's Saludos Amigos. But since it's more of a tourism ad than it is a movie, Brad took the opportunity to rank all 61 Disney Animated Features released at the time of this recording, from Snow White to Strange World. Other movies mentioned in this episode: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942), The Three Caballeros (1944), Make Mine Music (1946), Fun and Fancy Free (1947), Melody Time (1948), The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949), Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Peter Pan (1953), Lady and the Tramp (1955), Sleeping Beauty (1959), One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961), The Sword in the Stone (1963), The Jungle Book (1967), The Aristocats (1970), Robin Hood (1973), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977), The Rescuers (1977), The Fox and the Hound (1981), The Secret of NIMH (1982), The Black Cauldron (1985), The Great Mouse Detective (1986), Oliver & Company (1988), All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989), The Little Mermaid (1989), The Rescuers Down Under (1990), Rock-a-doodle (1991), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Hercules (1997), Mulan (1998), Tarzan (1999), Fantasia 2000 (1999), Dinosaur (2000), The Emperor's New Groove (2000), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), Lilo & Stitch (2002), Treasure Planet (2002), Brother Bear (2003),Home on the Range (2004), Chicken Little (2005), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Bolt (2008), The Princess and the Frog (2009), Tangled (2010), Winnie the Pooh (2011), Wreck it Ralph (2012), Frozen (2013), Big Hero Six (2014), Zootopia (2016), Moana (2016), Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), Frozen II (2019), Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), Encanto (2021), Strange World (2022)

She is perhaps best known for the role of Suzy Song in the 1998 film Smoke Signals, an adaptation of a Sherman Alexie collection of short stories, as well as for providing the speaking voice for the titular character in the 1995 animated film Pocahontas.[2] Bedard reprised her role as Pocahontas in the film's direct-to-video follow-up, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (1998) and for a cameo in Ralph Breaks the InternetCollider magazine says work on the second Super Mario Bros movie has been halted because of the Hollywood Writers Strike TParamount+ is developing a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV show. The series would take place after the upcoming Mutant Mayhem movie and may launch as soon as 2024.Arnold Schwarzenegger says he beat out OJ Simpson for the role of The Terminator because no one at Orion Pictures was convinced Simpson was a killer. The Daily Mail quotes Arnold as saying, ''During our conversation, it became clear no one was hooked to OJ Simpson playing Terminator because he could not be sold as a killing machine.''Chris Hemsworth tells GQ magazine that his three children aren't fans of his Thor movies.“It's a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. ‘We thought this one had too much humour, the action was cool but the VFX weren't as good'. I cringe and laugh equally at it. It's always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it's always a ride. But you just don't know how people are going to respond.” The JoBlo movie website says filming on ''Deadpool 3'' has begun. Ryan Reynolds is not allowed to improvise on the set because of the writer's strike. He can't use new lines for the film because he is officially credited as a writer on it. The Writer's Union has guidelines that do not allow lines to be changed when a movie is filming during a strike. Media Entertainment Arts says there is a growing number of people, who want Chris Pratt to replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. The Internet reacts ...“We shouldn't have to raise Harrison Ford from the dead to enjoy another #IndianaJones adventure. After seeing Chris Pratt in both GotG & Jurassic World, he became my new candidate for a recast. It's not hard.''“I may get heat for this but Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones would rock.”“I hope they continue the Indiana Jones franchise and cast Chris Pratt as Indy.”“If they ever decided to make a rebooted version of Indiana Jones in the near future? The only two individuals I could see playing Indy? Are Chris Pratt or Bradley Cooper? Both of which have worked for Disney before and look like Harrison Ford.” Entertainment Tonight says Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd are reuniting for a new horror comedy called ''Zombie Town''. The movie is about a film that turns an entire town into zombies before two teenagers save everyone. Chevy and Dan haven't worked together since the 1991 movie "Nothing, But Trouble".Robert Englund tells Variety magazine that he is too old to play Freddy Krueger again. “I'm too old and thick to play Freddy now. I just can't do fight scenes for more than one take anymore, I've got a bad neck and bad back and arthritis in my right wrist. So I have to hang it up, but I would love to cameo.”

Having choreographed his first film at the age of 19, he was quickly catapulted to acclaim and was brought onboard to develop epic stage productions for The Jonas Brother, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Pitbull, Don Omar, Ciara, and many others.  His onstage work also includes creating and directing two mega tours of Sesame Street Live and two brand-new circus tours for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.     His body of choreographic work includes over 300 films and T.V. shows, an impressive feat for such a young artist. Some notable projects bearing his innovative stamp include: the 2019 Academy Award nominated film Ralph Breaks the Internet (Disney Animation), the Seth Rogan produced comedy Good Boys, Deadpool 2 (w/ Ryan Reynolds), Noelle (w/ Anna Kendrick & Shirley MacLaine), The Kissing Booth 1, 2 & 3 (Netflix), and the hit YA musical comedy A Week Away for Netflix.   Paul's T.V. work extends to Charmed, Hellcats, Legends of Tomorrow, and Riverdale for The CW, the National Geographic series Valley Of the Boom, American Horror Story: Hotel, Once Upon a Time for ABC, A Series of Unfortunate Events for Netflix, and The Magicians for SYFY. The Walt Disney organization has enfolded and integrated him into their creative workings, a blessing Paul cherishes daily. He has given life to several projects at Mouse Central that would bring any performance artist and collaborator boundless joy. His association with Disney began when he choreographed The Muppets': Wizard of Oz, followed by The Muppets' Christmas: Letters to Santa. His long-term relationship with them solidified as he was brought in to choreograph several films, from the hit remake of Adventures in Babysitting (w/ Sabrina Carpenter) to Girl vs. Monster (w/ Olivia Holt), and the record-breaking musical franchise Descendants, in which he and Ortega teamed up to choreograph and which was deemed a “YouTube breaking moment” recording billions of views. Additionally, his choreography can be seen in the films Overboard for MGM, the famed Twilight film series, Mirror Mirror (w/ Julia Roberts), Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, and the worldwide phenom book series turned film series Diary of a Wimpy Kid Parts 1-3. In the world of variety T.V., he served as the producer and creative director for Canada's Got Talent, as well as a judge and choreographer on multiple seasons of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, and as a choreographer on Dancing with the Stars.

Composer Henry Jackman is known as one of the top film composers of today, responsible for dynamic scores for blockbusters like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Kong: Skull Island. Within The Walt Disney Company, he has composed several scores for Marvel (including Captain America: Civil War) and now five films for Walt Disney Animation Studios: Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and Strange World. With its newest production, Jackman brings an enveloping and poignant score, making the Strange World universe even more eccentric. He consistently demonstrates his background in classical music mixed with electronic prowess. On this episode of Notably Disney, Henry speaks with host Brett Nachman about his work for Disney, unique contributions to making the Strange World score both exhilarating and resonant, and other projects. Disney Legend Jodi Benson joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss working on The Little Mermaid, her new book Part of My World, learning to let go of perfectionism and much more. Jodi Benson has been a part of all of our worlds since she swam on the scene in 1989 as the voice of Ariel in Disney's iconic animated film The Little Mermaid. Of course, Jodi has also lent her talents to some other incredible characters over the years. An accomplished, singer, dancer, and actress, Jodi got her start on Broadway performing the iconic song "Disneyland" in the Howard Ashman/Marvin Hamlisch musical Smile, and she earned a Tony nomination for her role as Polly Baker in the hit Gershwin musical Crazy for You. After striking animation gold with The Little Mermaid, Jodi went on to voice Barbie in Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 and delighted Disney fans with a cameo in Enchanted before reprising her role as Ariel once again in Ralph Breaks the Internet. In 2011, the Walt Disney company honored Jodi's contributions by officially naming her a Disney Legend. It's a well-deserved accolade as Jodi carries the torch of being a Disney princess with such grace and joy. Of course, people on the outside always wonder what it must be like to live the life of a Disney royal. Lucky for us all, Jodi has shared a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes stories in her new book Part of My World: What I've Learned from the Little Mermaid about Love, Faith and Finding My Voice. She also wrote the forward for Disney Princess: Beyond the Tiara, which explores the legacies of the Princesses and what they represent today. Both books are available now.
