We end phase 2 OF COURSE...with Ant-Man. Yeah bit of a weird movie to end a phase on but here we are. This movie's production history is no secret. It was SUPPOSED to be an Edgar Wright film. A scramble happened to find a new creative team. Even the marketing seemed very confused as to what type of movie this was supposed to be. But it came out and was a big hit. He's a successful writer, he's dating Hope van Dyne, and things are going pretty well. His daughter, Cassie, is now a teenager and has become an activist, helping people who were displaced by the Blip. This has caused some tension between her and Scott, who isn't exactly thrilled with her getting herself into dangerous situations. While visiting Hope's parents, Cassie shows them a device she's been working on that can communicate with the Quantum Realm. Janet freaks out and shuts it down, but it's too late. The device has already sent a signal, opening a portal that sucks Scott, Cassie, Hope, Hank, Janet, and a bunch of Hank's lab ants into the Quantum Realm. Scott and Cassie are separated from the others and are taken in by a group of people who are rebelling against the ruler of the Quantum Realm. Meanwhile, Hope, Hank, and Janet find themselves in a massive city where they run into Lord Krylar, an old friend of Janet's. Unfortunately, Krylar is now working for Kang, the guy who currently rules the Quantum Realm, so they steal his ship and get out of there. The rebels explain to Scott and Cassie that Janet played a role in Kang becoming so powerful. Janet eventually admits that she met Kang during her previous time trapped in the Quantum Realm. Kang told her that he could get both of them home if she helped him repair his multiversal power core. They fixed it, but Janet discovered that Kang was actually a complete psycho who had been conquering and destroying entire timelines. She turned against him and used her Pym Particles to make the power core too large to function. Kang eventually regained his powers and took control of the Quantum Realm anyway. The Langs are eventually captured and brought before Kang, who threatens to kill Cassie unless Scott helps him retrieve his power core. Scott shrinks down and heads into the core, where he encounters a probability storm that creates a bunch of copies of himself. Things get pretty chaotic, but Hope shows up and helps him get the core. Kang captures Janet and has M.O.D.O.K. destroy the ship carrying Hank. Thankfully, Hank is rescued by his ants, who have spent their time in the Quantum Realm evolving into giant, super-intelligent ants. With Hank's help, Scott and Hope head back into the fight. The rebels launch an all-out uprising against Kang and his army. During the battle, Cassie manages to convince M.O.D.O.K. — who turns out to be Darren Cross, the guy Scott thought he killed in the first movie — to switch sides. Cross helps them fight Kang but ultimately sacrifices himself. Janet repairs the power core and she, Hank, Hope, and Cassie make it through a portal back home. Scott is almost left behind when Kang attacks him, but Hope comes back for him. Together, they manage to throw Kang into the power core, seemingly destroying him. Cassie reopens the portal, allowing Scott and Hope to make it home. Scott goes back to his normal life, but he starts thinking about Kang and whether or not it's actually over with him. We open this week’s Shoot Around with the wild story out of Ohio: 49ers owner Jed York getting caught up in a prostitution sting over a $140 ad, and the guys break down why guys with that kind of money still make choices like that. Wongaibon woman, Gayle Kennedy tells the story of her childhood, punctuated by years of treatment for polio. A bright child, she blitzed school and was drawn to comic book writing, which led to an award-winning career as an author.Gayle was two when she contracted polio. The family was living in a camp outside Condobolin when little Gayle collapsed at her aunt's house.Gayle's mother was in hospital at the time, where she had given birth to Gayle's younger brother. She ran from the hospital to her sickly toddler, and brought Gayle in for treatment.Gayle was sent to Sydney and spent six months in an iron lung, a mechanical respirator that covered her whole body, leaving her head exposed.For years she would return to Sydney for follow up therapy. Gayle was a bright student who overcame racism at school and after she graduated she worked with the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, then set up the Ivanhoe Land Council.During this time, Gayle was introduced to Streetwize Comics, which inspired to give writing a go and got a job as a comic book writer.Years later, Gayle became unwell again, and she was diagnosed with post-polio syndrome.She was miserable and suffering, and when she joined the NDIS her life changed for the better.She started writing stories that were published in the Sydney Morning Herald and went on to win the David Unaipon Award for her book Me, Antman and Fleabag.Further informationThis episode was produced by Rebecca McLaren. Things are going great until Janet gets trapped in the Quantum Realm, which, as it turns out, is not an ideal vacation destination. Fast forward to after the events of Civil War. Scott Lang is nearing the end of his house arrest and trying to stay out of trouble. Hank and Hope briefly open a tunnel to the Quantum Realm, which somehow causes Scott to have a vision of Janet as a little girl playing hide-and-seek. Instead of questioning any of this, everyone decides it's proof that Janet is still alive. Hope and Hank kidnap Scott, replacing him with a giant ant wearing his ankle monitor. The trio sets out to rescue Janet, but first they need a special part from shady businessman Sonny Burch. Sonny immediately realizes there's money to be made and betrays them, leading to a fight with a mysterious masked woman called Ghost, who steals Hank's entire portable laboratory. Trying to get their lab back, they visit Hank's old partner Bill Foster, who explains that Ghost is actually Ava Starr, the daughter of another former colleague whose experiment went very, very wrong. Ava is now phasing in and out of existence and is constantly in pain. Her plan? Steal Janet's Quantum Realm energy to save herself. The only problem is that doing so might kill Janet. Meanwhile, Janet starts sending messages from the Quantum Realm and provides directions. She warns them they only have a couple of hours before the Quantum Realm decides to strand them for another hundred years. Things get complicated. Sonny learns where they are. The FBI arrests Hank and Hope. Ava steals the lab. It's alot but also nothing. Eventually, Scott helps everyone escape, they recover the lab, and Hank ventures into the Quantum Realm to rescue Janet. He finds her alive, looking surprisingly well for someone who's spent decades trapped in a dimension beyond space and time. What follows is a giant chase across San Francisco featuring shrinking buildings, growing cars, a whole lot of size changing. While Scott and Hope deal with Sonny and Ghost, Hank successfully brings Janet home. Rather than holding a grudge, Janet uses her Quantum powers to stabilize Ava and save her life. In the end, Scott finally completes his house arrest, Sonny gets arrested, Ava and Bill go into hiding, and everyone seems happy. But then the mid-credits scene happens. And it's no longer happy go lucky time. Scott heads back into the Quantum Realm to collect healing energy for Ava. Just as he's ready to come home, Hank, Hope, and Janet all turn to dust thanks to Thanos. Scott is left trapped in the Quantum Realm.
